When they looked at our basement, they told us the issue was not in the basement but actually it was our gutters. We were pleased with them and their honesty and they ended up saving us additional money that would have been unnecessary. They really did give us a good education on the basement and what kind of things to look for in basements in the future. He did not charge me for this visit.
Description of Work: They came out to assess an issue in our basement, we had some cracks and mild dampness and were putting the house on the market.

They came out on a Saturday and they repaired the pipe and they were very responsive to us. After they replaced the pipe, they flattened the ground where they had done the work and put down some grass seed and the area within a week you could not tell they had done any work in the yard.
Description of Work: Our sump pump drain pipe to the curb had broken and was draining into the yard.

The person that was out here really seemed to know what he was talking about. He didn't hesitate when I asked him a question or say he didn't know or say he had to check. He knew the answer to everything I asked. I felt very comfortable with the information he provided me.
Description of Work: They gave me an estimate for a secondary system for water drainage in my basement.

We contacted this company due to some concern about a small amount of water getting into a corner of our basement with heavy rain. Basically, we wanted to determine if there was anything we should do waterproofing wise to protect the structure of the home. Ryan came out and was extremely helpful. He explained what the company could do, but more importantly informed us that we really didn't need to do anything accept address a downspout outside to better drain the water away from the house at that corner of the basement. It was certainly appreciated that a company would tell us that we didn't actually need them to do anything. We were pleased with his information and honesty and would certainly use them in the future if/when we actually need to.

I had been experiencing an increasingly unpleasant odor in my basement, although I did not have any noticeable wet spots (some discoloration). My basement is large, about 1700 square feet, and although unfinished, the walls had been painted with (I am guessing) thoroughly or dry-lock by the prior owner. I had a dehumidifier than has been running 24/7 most of this year, but did not used to do so. Since I had no wet spots, and the house is 17 years old, I was at a loss to explain the reason my basement was getting some pretty pervasive mold growth. My walls had insulation on the top half of the wall, which I removed after having the first company come out, based on their recommendation. Upon removing the insulation I discovered the sill was wet, apparently from a leaky window. Phillips was the 5th company I contacted to obtain advice and quotes. The first two companies basically wanted to sell me their proprietary solutions, which were very expensive ($20,000 and $8,000). The 3rd company never showed up, the 4th company did not seem interested (at least was more honest in assessing the problem). All the companies I contacted (except for the first one) were on anguish List. Ryan Phillips examined my basement and listened to my concerns. He assured me I did not need any waterproofing, as I did not have any water on the floor. He suggested I add a second dehumidifier, spray the walls with clorox to kill the mold and eliminate the odor, (using a wire brush for stubborn areas) and, for aesthetic reasons I could paint to make it look nicer. He also suggested I remove the wooden support used to fasten down the insulation, then using a concrete sealer to seal the nail holes and any large cracks. I was able to schedule the appointment with Phillips within a week of contacting them. Ryan showed up right on schedule and took all the time needed to address my questions. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: Ryan Phillips examined my basement, listened to my concerns, and gave me very specific instructions on what I can do to fix the problem myself. He did not feel I needed to engage his company to perform any waterproofing services.

This was one of our best experiences with hiring work around the house to be done. Ryan came out and gave us an estimate with no pressure and straightforward talk. After getting 2 other estimates, we went with Phillips because they had the best price, said they would re-seed grass, and said they would put knock-outs on the new drain lines. The crew did the job while I was away at work and finished in the time they said it would take. I have an Invisible Fence for the dogs which was in the path of the new drain line, and they dug the trench while being careful to not break the line.
Description of Work: Installed about 125 feet of exterior drainage line off of 2 downspouts and a sump pump line. Dug a trench for the line and re-seeded the dirt where the trench was dug.

I had called Phillips about 4 years before this to come out and do an estimate. At that time, the leaking was remedied by putting down a towel. After a recent hard rain, there was enough water that it justified a repair in my mind. The same estimator came out who had been out four years previously, and he remembered the house and basement from the first quote. I selected this company for this task because four years ago, he told me I didn't need to do anything at that time. The staff showed up on time and did the work I requested. They were all very polite and professional. They finished in less time than originally estimated and cleaned up after themselves well. I would hire them again, but hopefully I won't have to. The estimate seemed expensive, but that's apparently what it costs.
Description of Work: Opened basement wall to install a new window. Created new sump and installed a new sump pump. Installed waterproofing system around entire basement perimeter. Tied drains into street drainage system.

He was very honest about the job. There were no problems with him. I am probably going to have him come back out and fix the problem like he had said. He was a very nice man, and he knew what he was talking about. He didn't charge me anything to come out for the estimate either.
Description of Work: A young man came and told us how to fix our problem. He said that he could come and fix all of our gutters because our patio drain had been leaking and had made part of the roof rot plus it drained into our crawl space.

These guys are the best. Good price and prompt response to phone calls. They showed up on time and were done in a few hours. Put up plastic to protect the basement furniture and they cleaned up when finished. They filled the cracks in the wall and everything just looks great. I would choose Phillips again and recommend them to anyone.

I came home at lunch to check the progress. They had started around 7:00 a.m. I think. They had run into a snag because the job estimator did not account for the lower than average ceiling height. They had to cut a little off of each I-beam, but were still finished, cleaned up, and gone by the time I came back at 2:40 p.m.
Description of Work: Set 8 I-beams along basement walls to halt inward bow of walls. The basement cement floor was broken up where the beams were to go. The beams were placed into the holes, and cement was poured in the holes. The top of the beams were secured to the wood frame of the house. They applied some filler (cement maybe?) between the I-beam and the walls in the places they it didn't touch do to the bowing. They put in quite a bit of wood supports between joists. They also filled in an old coal chute with cement.

Everything went very well. The service was great, the work was great, and they were very nice. Overall, I was really happy with the company. They were the lowest estimate I received, and based upon the work they did, I believe they did as well if not better work than the other companies would have.

Excellent service. Company representative (Ryan) called one hour ahead of appointment and arrived right on time. Was knowledgeable and courteous. No sales pressure, whatsoever. Ryan was very direct about the techniques that his company used but did not assume that this would be the best approach for our problem. Took his time to discuss all options, even though it was apparent that we would probably not be using his company's services at this time. He did provide a written estimate so that we could consider that option. Decided not to use this company because they do repair work from inside only; our particular problem suggested that we try an outside-only repair approach first. Would definitely call them back if we decide to use an inside-focused technique.

Original project: I was very impressed. They were efficient, clean, and polite. They scheduled us in a hurry, and helped us stay on track for a basement refinishing project. Ryan and Bruce were very professional and friendly. They answered all questions and concerns directly and honestly. Secondary project: After they finished their waterproofing job, we had difficulty with a contractor that was installing a bathroom in our basement. The OTHER contractor broke up our floor to put in plumbing and did not pour back the concrete correctly. This caused a breach in our waterproofed floor. Bruce and Ryan provided guidance to us in resolving this problem, and further, their crew wound up fixing the issue by installing two more finger drains. In the process, I think that they educated the OTHER contractor in good engineering practice when installing plumbing in a basement floor. They went above and beyond. Excellent work and customer service.
Description of Work: Install Hydro Flo Network Drainage system; Install Drain Clean Out; Install New (replacement) Sump Pump; Improve Sump Pit; Install Freeze out plug for Sump; Tie Sump system into existing Downspouts; Stucco walls 8-12" high; Refinish concrete and haul away debris; Remove and reinstall glass block window (Opening used for debris removal); Install 8' finger drain, in addition to perimeter system; Install drain in ash pit and stucco over it.

My cement block basement walls has gradually cracked and had begun to bow. I contacted Phillips and a couple of other companies to advice and an estimate. Phillips arrived on time as scheduled, inspected the walls and provided an assessment and an estimate. The recommendation was that the walls were "border-line" in need of reinforcement and that I did not need to do anything immediately. They also provided an estimate. A similar assessment was provided by Kand G and the estimate was slightly higher. Within a few months, the cracks expanded and I decided to proceed with the work. Phillips once again arrived on time as scheduled. They did a wonderful job of setting my expectations and everything proceeded as expected. The individuals that performed the work were neat and friendly. In summary, Phillips was professional, honest and provided exactly what they promised. The single opportunity for improvement was that, in the process of getting the "I" beams into the basement, they created some small disruption in the yard. As a consumer, be aware that the "I" beams may be passed through a window to get to the basement, and plan for that.

I am trying to get a handle on what waterproofing is in place in the basement of my 1954 home. It's a small home with 2 sump pumps (+ 1 in the crawl space) and I've been hesitant to finish the basement in case there are issues. I had one previous company in for a review and assessment; they recommended installing 5 beams to fix a wall and a new waterproofing system around half the basement (>$4000). Phillips was the second company I called. Ryan Phillips came out and looked things over. He stated that all looked well - that the wall the other company wanted to reinforce was not bowed nearly enough to require reinforcement. Also noted that there was clearly a waterproofing system in place that was functioning. He also explained how to correct a loud thumping noise caused by the one pump while the other company recommended the installation of an entirely new sump pump. Phillips eased my concerns about the basement and clearly did not take advantage of an uneducated consumer.

The work went fine. They arrived somewhat later than promised, but worked steadily after that, only breaking for lunch. The crew was all friendly and helpful and explained what they were doing. They wiped up the floor after they were done. They gave me instructions re: the concrete in the room with the sump pump. They seeded my lawn and told me to water it daily. It hasn't rained hard since they did the work, so I can't swear that it was successful. Their price was the most reasonable of the three estimates I got. I was experiencing leaking outside my house next to the emergency discharge valve, and after several calls, Phillips came out yesterday and fixed that problem. I also noticed water inside the basement where they had been working, but the Phillips representative checked it over and determined that it seems to be a plumbing problem.

Even though I didn't need any work done, Ryan wrote up an estimate for installing steel beams and took time to fully describe the work that would be done. The estimate was much lower than I expected. It was a very pleasant experience meeting and talking with Ryan. I would consider hiring Phillips if I ever need basement work.
Description of Work: Ryan came out to give an estimate on my bowed and cracked basement wall. He told me it did not need any work now and may not for many years. He gave me many suggestions for watching the cracks and bowing and also inspected my entire basement looking at a few other trouble spots. He also gave recommendations for cleaning some moldy walls. He even gave me the history on my unconventional and old drainage system and gave me suggestions for fixing potential leaks.

Ryan Phillips was the representative that came to our house. He was both extremely professional and honest. After a thorough assessment of the situation, Mr. Phillips said he was almost positive it was the Main Water Line. He told me to call a plumber before I had him come and do anything. I was so impressed with him honesty. He could have told us he had to break up the concrete in our basement and lay new pipe, like another waterproofing company told us would have to be done. I took Mr. Phillips suggestion and called a plumber. The plumber agreed with Mr. Phillips and did the necessary test to confirm their suspicion. If it wasn't for Mr. Phillips we would have spent thousands of dollars on our basement and still not had the problem fixed. I feel Mr. Phillips and his company should receive the recognition they deserve. I would definitely call Phillips Basement Waterproofing, Inc. in the future.
Description of Work: Mr. Phillips came to our house and did a thorough assessment of the water damage. He was honest enough to tell us he was almost positive the problem stemmed from the Main Water Line. His suggestion to call a plumber to have the Main Line tested before we had him come in and do anything that wasn't necessary, was greatly appreciated.

This company was very professional to work with from the initial estimate to the installation, to the questions I had after the work was finished. Their price was very competitive and much better than one other highly rated Angie's List company. They did not try to sell me any extra services. The work was completed faster than I expected. They were very neat with the process and since they had to dig up part of my concrete floor, it could have really been a mess. You will be very pleased with the work that this company will do for you. Give them a call.
Description of Work: Installed a Hydro Flow Network drainage system on one wall in the basement. Outside of the house, they installed new waterspout drains from the house to the street and installed two basement window wells. The job went fabulously. Before Ryan ever entered our home to give us an estimate, he had observed the slope of the ground and knew where the drainage system needed to be installed. He didn't oversell the job by trying to convince us to install more drain than we needed. The workers were extremely polite, professional, and efficient. They showed up on time and finished on time. They used wet towels with the jackhammer when they removed the basement floor--there wasn't a speck of dust anywhere. I was a little worried about the noise, but they were so fast removing the floor that it didn't seem bad at all. Their price for doing the job was half what the other two contractors bid, the main differences being cosmetic things like painting the wall. I rarely choose a contractor because they give the lowest bid, but this time I'm glad I did! They were extremely accommodating in every way, and the system works beautifully.
Description of Work: They installed 47 feet of drainage pipe beneath the basement floor, installed a sump pump, tied the sump into the downspout, refinished the floor where they had to remove concrete, cleaned the walls with bleach, hauled away all the debris.
