Ryan Phillips, the owner's son, came out to give an estimate on repairing a cracked bowing foundation as well as repairing water leaking into basement. He was honest and very knowledgeable on the problem and how to repair it. We decided to hire Phillips over many of the other companies that used high pressure sales tactics and had inferior products (drain pipe on top of footer/carbon fiber repairs). The work was done by a crew over two days and overseen by the owner, Bruce. They put up plastic over everything and cleaned up after they were done. They also installed new underground 4" downspout drain line. It's been about a year since the work was done and there hasn't been any leaks. Would highly recommend.

Ryan Phillips came out on 4/22/20 to give us an estimate on waterproofing our old laundry room as we had water coming into that room for the first time in 20 years. He gave us the estimate but also went outside to survey the area where the water seemed to be finding its way into the basement. He suggested calling a concrete company to try to correct the problem outside at the source (we eventually did this). While Ryan was here, he changed a control on our sump pump which had broken (we were unaware of this). He didn't charge us for installing the new part even though I offered to pay him. We have had work done by Phillips twice in the past and have been extremely satisfied with the results. We highly recommend them.

We worked with Ryan Phillips, the son of the founder, for the estimating and contract part of the work. He was straightforward, honest, and easy to work with. He explained the change in the code and what work would we needed. The work was done by a crew of two over two days. They took out the old bracing and installed new bracing consistent with the current building codes. That work was spread over two days so they could take advantage of better weather the first day to do the outside work (it was early December and cold). They covered all of the things we had moved to the center of the basement with plastic. When they were done they cleaned up everything and removed the plastic. They used mats on the carpet in the path to the basement to protect the carpet. The crew was very good to work with. They were efficient and worked well together. They kept us informed of when they would be there (including coming back from lunch) and were very punctual. The work was done very well. The bracing looks exactly like I expected it to after getting the recommendation from the structural engineer. The drainage pipes and extra topsoil around the foundation have really helped with the basement walls. They are noticeably drier to the touch after heavy rains, and the sump pump runs quite a bit less than it did before. Since it was December and the basement was cold, we did not repaint the basement walls at that time. We will do that ourselves in the summer. I highly recommend Phillip Basement Waterproofing and would use them again.
Description of Work: Our basement walls had been repaired with I-beams and new drainage around the inside walls in 1995. The walls had started to bow and crack again. After an initial estimate from a contractor that would essentially rebuild the basement walls and cost about the same as the initial cost of the house, we hired a structural engineer and got a recommendation that was much more affordable. The recommendation was to re-brace the I-beams in a manner consistent with current regulations. It turned out that our work was done about the time that the regulations were changed and had been done to the old regulations. In addition we replaced all of the drainage pipes from the downspouts to the street (4) with new 4 inch pipes (instead of the old three inch) and access to clean the pipes out when needed. We also had dirt around the foundation to increase the drainage away from the house (the level had sunk slowly over the 35 years since the house was built).

Ryan was awesome, came to the house promptly and looked both at an issue we had with a sump pump failure and some staining on the cinderblock near our water meter. Gave great advice and said that we didn't need their (or any other company's) services at this time. Very honest, and would work with them in the future.

A neighbor recommended Phillips based on work they did on his daughter's house. I got 3 different quotes. One company quoted 16k, while Phillips and another reputable company quoted closer to 11k. I decided to go with Phillips because they were responsive, thorough, had an excellent reputation, and a professional approach. The fact that they are booking jobs 3 months in advance says something by itself. At my request, they stopped by the week before the job to inspect the prep work that was done and give feedback if anything else needed to be done. They completed the job over the course of the week as planned, and were in frequent communication with me about my questions along the way. The ground was too wet outside for them to complete the outside underground drain portion, so they prorated the fee based on what was completed and will be coming back in a couple of months to finish underground portion.

After sending a request for information, Ryan gave me a call within one business day, and was out at our house the following day. I was really impressed with the quick response time! He took a look at our basement and gave us his honest opinion of the status of our foundation. In our case, we were told by an inspector that we would need to have I-beams installed to support one of the walls, but Ryan told us honestly that he didn't think work was necessary for us at this time. It was so refreshing to be given an honest assessment, and although we won't need to have work done now, we will definitely be going back to Phillips for basement needs in the future!

The work was excellent. They did quality work and their attention to detail was amazing. This job was quite difficult - seemingly everyday they ran into another issue that was beyond the norm, but they persevered and were still able to complete the job in the specified time (even with all the extra work that was needed). I would highly recommend this company.

I definitely needed my basement walls to be braced/reinforced after a structural engineering inspection. So I requested bids from three basement firms -- all highly rated. Ryan Phillips bid was the most competitive, but, more importantly, I felt very comfortable with his approach and with the additional issues he identified and solutions he suggested without going overboard on cost. The work was done by Bruce Phillips -- the owner -- and Andy. I couldn't be more pleased with their work. They were punctual, professional, pleasant and very efficient and competent. Bruce even went beyond the contracted work and was able to restore the blocked underground drain by replacing a short section, thus saving me hundreds of dollars over what the others were proposing. They did a nice job of cleaning up, and the finished work looked very fine. Highest recommendation.

Phillips has gone above and beyond for us several times since we purchased our home last year. They made a house call to explain the waterproofing system to us when we were making initial plans for our basement bathroom. They patiently and kindly answered the (many) questions we had for them over the phone, as our bathroom plans progressed. And with our most recent water-in-the-basement problem, they came to thoroughly assess the situation and then came to correct the problem, though they had not caused it. Within a couple of hours they had corrected the plumber's errors and our waterproofing system was functioning smoothly again. Phillips handled each aspect of this job, as well as our other interactions with them, with the utmost courtesy, respect, professionalism and kindness. We cannot recommend them enough, and are anxious to enjoy our once-again-dry basement.
Description of Work: After a plumber installed the underground plumbing for our new basement bathroom, we began to have standing water in our (previously dry, waterproofed) basement. After contacting the plumber several times to no avail, we contacted Phillips, who had performed the original waterproofing several years prior.

Ryan initially came out to give us a quote which was the most honest quote i think I have ever received. I had at least 4 other providers tell me i had to have a drainage system installed. Ryan was the only one to point out that the basement already had a drainage system in place, but due to other issues with gutters and grading it was making it h****** the system to keep up. We needed to have the walls braced and while some competitors wanted us to use carbon fiber, Ryan showed us how carbon would not fix our issue at hand. They installed 17 steel beams, They day they came to install I asked them about block windows and Bruce the owner said if i wanted them installed He would stay up late and make the correct sizes. The next day they finished up and cleaned up very nicely, I can honestly say I loved everything they did for us and are the most honest company i have dealt with. Thanks again to Ryan and Bruce and the entire crew

I had water seeping into two of my walls in the basement. Not a lot, and only during big/long rains. Ryan came out to look and immediately diagnosed my problem as being an exterior problem allowing rainwater to enter, likely either a downspout or grading issue. He said that he would not try to sell me a waterproofing solution because it would not help my real problem, which was rainwater coming in higher up on the wall. We then went outside and he quickly identified the area where the grading was not appropriate, and simply recommended adding dirt to make the lawn slope away from the house. This came after one of the national brands tried hard to convince me that a full-blown waterproofing project was the only solution. Ryan did go ahead and prepare an estimate for his waterproofing service as a courtesy, but he was very clear in stating that it was only a worst case scenario and really would not prevent the water coming in but more control it once it does. I truly appreciate Ryan?s honesty and it means a lot that he did not try to sell me an expensive solution that he did not believe was needed. When I mentioned to Ryan how much I appreciated his honesty, his response was that they like happy customers and value honesty and doing the right thing. This speaks volumes to the integrity of this company.

They are great it s a family company and they have been operating for thirty eight years, I actually met Ryan himself and he quoted every thing and told us what he was going to do certain things and at this point we are going to live the contract to them. because there is going to be some destruction of the dry wall. They have been very quick at responding. They did a good job at the price that they estimated. Their price was 1/3rd of one of the two people that's on Angie's List. The previous owner had taken it upon himself to put in the drain tile. He was a complete idiot. He jack hammered down and put in the pipe and then filled it up with concrete. Before he filled up the concrete, he took the jack hammer and put extra weep holes on the inside of the wall that's made of Hollywood blocks. He jack hammered holes in that. But when he poured in the new concrete, it filled the holes back up. It worked for a long time, but about two years ago the water stopped flowing into the sump. So I had a plumber who used to work for Gand M plumbing, but he has moved on. He said that I need to get a hold of people that can do drain tile water proofing work. I called up one of the two in Angie's List. They gave me an original estimate of $24000. Phillips ended up costing $8000. Also the pipe is laid in the grooves that are in the foundation of a house to start with. Those pipes have holes half way up, where the water that comes from the rain and comes inside your block flows down into those grooves, the trench and then flows into the holes half way up in that pipe. That pipe being on an angle, lets the water flow into your sump pump. To enable the water to flow from the wall to the pipe, you need gravel and the water flows through the interstitial spaces. That's the tiny spaces in between the gravel. But Phillips uses polished spherical gravel. It's about 5/8th of an inch diameter, spherical gravel. So by it being spherical, there are consistent interstitial spaces so the water can flow. But if you just use the cheapest gravel you can find, there is a good chance it'll plug up. So that took a lot of thought and professional integrity to do that because that spherical gravel has got to cost more than the cheap stuff. So you're really getting something for your $8000. They did a lot of work. They did it quickly and professionally. Not a drop of water has gone in my basement since they did it. They set a date and they stuck to it. They showed up on time. The people next door to me had them do their house about 15 years ago. I went next door and asked them to show me exactly what had been done, so I could try and get some idea of what they're going to do and if they made sense and ask if there were any problems and there weren't.
Description of Work: I had had a company named Phillips Waterproofing. I used them last winter. They dug out the drain tile. The drain tile is a pipe rain water goes through. I found that the drain tile was blocked by the Arborvitae in the front of my front door. That's why the water didn't get to the sump pump any more. They had to jack hammer out the basement floor, about 18 inch wide trench all the way around the perimeter inside and then take out the old drain tile, which is actually a black plastic pipe which has some holes in it.

After calling around for estimates, I hired Phillips. The price was much lower than the competition. The crew arrived on time and immediately got to work. They put in 6 braces, cutting into the concrete floor so the braces were stable and anchoring them at the top with super heavy-duty bolts. The work passed inspection with flying colors. Everyone was personable and professional, but focused on completing the job. Perfect job, very satisfied, no complaints or problems. Would definitely use Phillips again and recommend them to others.

The crew was great! They were informative throughout the process to appropriately manage my expectations. We have had great deal of rain recently and there has been absolutely no issues with water or moisture in the basement.
Description of Work: The basement walls/foundation of our property had significant bows and cracks. There was also leakage due to poor water drainage. Multiple issues and the root cause needed to be addressed. Water Proofing: dug trench around the interior of the foundation, installed drain pipes and sump pump with drainage to the outside. Basement walls were stabilized with steel I-beams, placed vertically against the wall and spaced anywhere from 3 to 6 feet apart, footing dug out a 18 inches and I-beam placed on end. Concrete poured around the I-beam then braced off the joists with 2x10s or 3x3 angle iron. All casement windows replaced with glass block. Downspouts connected to drainage pipes.
