It's one of the best companies that I have ever contracted services for. They actually were a tad more expensive than a few of the competitors, but the quality of service far exceeded the cost factor. I am an older type of person and I like the personal contact. They come right in. The guy hands a business card, he has letters of reference, and he shows his work. He gives you a call before the said time for services. He calls you personally afterward to ensure that the job has met the highest quality of services. They do more than what you contract for. For instance, we had a new drain channel put in. Part of that was because ours wasn't working and we had moisture in our basement wall. They cleaned our basement walls for free. They did it quickly. When I mentioned that there was some discoloration, they told me they would take care of that and they did. They could have just told me what to do and I would have done it. When I mentioned the problem, they fixed the problem and it wasn't a big deal. It didn't cost me anything extra. They were well together. In this kind of a job, they have to jack hammer the whole basement floor. There was no mess. They did as they said. They blocked everything off. They vacuum cleaned everything up. They worked as a team. One person was new in the team so they said they actually weren't quite as quick as they normally were which I thought was quick enough. Everybody had a little role. That's how they didn't get in each other's way and they could move through the stairwell efficiently. The people just knew what they were doing. I had to hook up a pipe into my sum pump to increase the efficiency of drainage away from my house. My neighbor and I dug the trench. What we needed them to do was to supervise and make sure that the job was correct and most importantly the connection between the pipes was secure. The people that built the house only cut a hole in the pipe and didn't secure it with glue or any fittings. That might have been what people did in the old days. They felt that it was obviously not a good situation. For someone who doesn't know, I would have used a 90 degree angle because it looked more efficient and it made more sense to me. They explained that it needed a slow drainage area so it doesn't block up the area. They ensured that I did that. We talked about what my neighbor and I were going to do and they explained why and what we should do. They helped us with the design and they did the fittings. Their guy even helped to cover the ditch which we dug ourselves which was not part of the contract. They went above and beyond the work. They were very personable. Even though they were a tad more expensive, it was totally worth it. The other people didn't come in with the same professional presentation and they didn't have the same personal commitment. That made all the difference in the world. The quality of the job was excellent. I don't remember exactly how much I paid, but it was couple of hundred dollars more than the others. They were all more or less the same amount. His personal presentation indicated that he was professional in his job. He wasn't casual about his approach. He was very personal, very well organized, and very well presented. He had references in the neighborhood. He knew where I lived. He knew who my neighbors were. He could give me references that I could easily call and may even know the people. That required a little thought flow. He took the time to line up references, bring the references, and make personal phone calls. You knew that you were dealing with someone that has done this before, was in the business to stay, and had survived. I called him recently and even though the job was done last year, I wanted to ask him a couple of questions about drainage. He called me back immediately and he was just as personable as he was initially. His name was Paul. He was the one that came to my house.
Description of Work: Phillips Basement Waterproofing came out about a year ago and did waterproofing in my basement.

I called several companies and this company did our work for the best price. They were great. They put a sump pump in our basement. They washed the mold off the cinder block walls. They put a new sink in. They were excellent in every area of service they performed. They were very nice and curteous. They kept everything very clean for us. My husband has asthma so that was a great plus..... Update: 9/7/11 Ryan Phillips came back put back the washer and dryer back. He also helped me move the dehumidafier from the basement. He went above and beyond the call of duty.
Description of Work: They put in 5 steel supports on a wall in the basement. They put a sump pump in our basement, they washed the mold off the cinder block walls, and they also put a new sink in for us.

We have utilized Phillips several times since 1996 to help with basement problems we have had. Each time they were very helpful in analyzing the problem and developing a cost effective repair. Most recently, one of the glass block windows they had installed 3 years ago was broken. They quickly came out and replaced it at no cost to me. They have always been prompt, courteous and professional.

They came and submitted the estimate...followed with another estimate a few days later when I decided to add to the job...Showed up early, worked to a good stop point and came back the next day early and started the next phase...the only hold up was with inspections...and that only cost an extra couple of hours the day after the scheduled completion. They were neat (they do work with concret and dirt) and effecient.
The project went excellently and according to the plan that Bruce laid out initially. It took three days. Several things that impressed me include: how wonderfully they cleaned up each evening, how successful they were at holding down the dust, and how neat the cement work looks. Finally they removed plants along the wall where they removed a basement window (to pass materials, soil, old cement, and gravel into and out of the basement. They replaced the glass block window and it looks identical to all the others. You would never know that it was removed and replaced. Finally upon completion of the project they placed the plants back into the ground. I strongly recommend Bruce and his team!
Description of Work: Bruce and his team installed an interior water collection system that carries a lifetime guarantee. The water comes into the system that is installed around the entire perimeter of the house. The basement has a large footprint and includes one large room and two smaller rooms. The water that is collected flows to a well and the sump pump sends it into the drain along the side of the house that runs to the storm drain for the house. The project was completed in three days.

Very well. He inspected the basement wall, sump pump and pipes, outside drains and factors which would likely cause wet walls.
Description of Work: The basement wall by the sump pump is constantly wet and discolored. The technician arrived on schedule and did not find any major repair necessary. He noted evidence of gutter overflow and a small leak at the sump drainpipe which he repaired. Also recommended increasing the grade of the slope to the street from the basement. Made helpful suggestions on how to clean up the wall and paint it.

I called Phillips on a rainy Saturday morning. Carol Phillips returned my call within an hour. We scheduled a time for later that day for an estimate. Bruce Phillips was able to come to my home later that afternoon. He gave me an estimate and we scheduled the work day. I had to call back the following week and reschedule the work day due to a work conflict and Bruce was able to reschedule. Bruce and his associate called before they came to my home. They were on time and they were very polite. They cleaned the work area before leaving. It was overall a good experience and they did a great job.

They negated the fact that I had mold which had been indicated by another company and estimate. They also negated the fact that the work required both interior and exterior treatmentor. I had actually signed to have another company do the work but decided against them after recieving the information I received from Phillips. They were wonderful to work with and I'm grateful I received an estimate from them. They were very professional, polite, informative, clear in communication and responsive to everything I asked. They provided an exceptional service and the moisture problems are gone. I really liked this company and the family and personal feel they extended. They were willing to pull up prior customer referrals and presented an abundance of information that supported the fact that they were an honest and forthright business. I have already referred them to others.

Bottom line, he was very helpful and didn't charge us a penny to come out and offer advice. Based on past experience, companies that I've encountered that do basement work have a tendency to try to convince you to hire them to do work that probably isn't even required. I was quite impressed with Ryan's honesty and professionalism. As such, should I ever need true basement waterproofing work performed, I wouldn't hestitate to use them.
Description of Work: We have a crack in the wall at the base of our house in the back corner and had Ryan come out to take a look. He showed up on time, took a look at the situation and told us right away that it was likely due to a cracked footer. Further, he indicated that Phillips doesn't do that kind of work, but recommended that we hire a reputable structural engineer to come out and take a look. He suggested potential remedies that they might recommend and roughly how much those might cost.

They are so honest! This man worked himself out of a job. I had 3 estimates from 3 other companies saying I needed to have plastic installed in my crawlspace to prevent mold. These estimates ranged from $1,000 to $3,000 dollars. This man came out and actually crawled into the crawl space, which the other companies did not. He saw the plastic in our crawlspace and saw the grey spots. He asked me to grab a bottle of bleach and he sprayed the spots. He let me know we did not have mold and this would disappear in an hour. He said if we had mold he would give me an estimate, but this was not our problem. This man saved me so much time and money. These other companies were trying to take advantage of me and he was so helpful and honest.

It went well. They showed up on time every day (it took 3 days) and were friendly and professional. Andy was the project leader and answered all my questions. After the first day, he and the other man hosed down the basement floor and squeegeed it before leaving. He kept me apprised at all times of what to expect the next day. The owner of the company, Bruce came over several times to supervise and help out. I am satisfied with the results.
Description of Work: The company removed some cabinets and floor tiles in my basement in order to install drainage pipes below the floor level. They also rerouted an outside drainage pipe to empty into the street. They put down grass seed where my lawn was excavated.

Starting with scheduling our appointment and ending with the visit, dealing with Phillips Basement Waterproofing was a pleasant and easy experience. Ryan accomodated our working schedules and came by when agreed with a phone call prior to the visit to inform us that he was on his way. He was a very nice and polite individual. He handled the situation with professionalism and understanding. We explained to him that we were concerned with the basement and potentially lack of quality in the work that had just been done. The problem of having wet basement wall and floor didn't appear to be resolved. He thoroughly inspected the area and re-assured us that the right thing to do would be to go back to the original company and demand job completion by properly installing plastic paneling. There was no need to re-do the entire job. Ryan took the time to explain how the job should have been done and what we should say to the company. He also talked about getting a de-humidifier and gave a few suggestions about where to buy one. Overall we were really satisfied with Ryan's visit, his knowledge and good nature.
Description of Work: We needed a second opinion, possibly another company to re-do the waterproofing job another company did for us. The initial problem didn't appear to be resolved after the first company finished the work, so we contacted Phillips Basement Waterproofing to get their opinion on the problem and get a quote as well. Ryan came out and inspected the problem area and the waterproofing job that was finished few weeks prior. He gave us a very honest opinion and explained that we shouldn't contract another company. Instead we should make the first company complete the job as it should have been in the first place and ensure the system will be under warranty. Ryan also gave us a good advice on a type of de-humidifier to purchase. We were pleased with Ryan's good and honest feedback,

I was terrified by the water I had seen in my crawl space and thought that the repair would cost thousands. However, Ryan did a thorough investigation and quickly set my mind at ease. He explained that we did not have a leak at all. It seems that the wood floor that we had built had trapped water and caused water damage. What we thought was a leak was actually just a build up of water that had not been allowed to escape naturally. Removing the floor would resolve the issue. Ryan took the time to examine the outside of the house to be sure that we didn't have any leaks. I appreciate his honesty and integrity very much. He told me that no repairs were needed. Even the estimate was free.
Description of Work: Ryan was absolutely wonderful. I called him about a water leak in my basement crawl space and he was at my home the same day to provide an estimate.

It went great. Ryan is very friendly yet professional. He recommended putting an additional dehumidier in the room in question ( I already have one in my laundry room) and even mentioned a brand that he uses that is sold on the internet. When I said that my husband would have to find someone to help him bring the one still-wet rug upstairs, Ryan simply picked it up and carried it out back for the garbage pick-up. He also has agreed to stop by our house early next week to speak directly with my husband about the recommended waterproofing so that my husband can see exactly where we need to fix things. I'd say Ryan went above and beyond what he had to do on this visit.
Description of Work: Ryan Phillips came out and gave me an estimate to waterproof the finished part of my basement which had taken in water a fews days earlier, soaking two rugs. His company had waterproofed a back room and installed a sump pump in it two years prior.

I had previously obtained two estimates from other companies that advertise their services and I wanted at least one more estimate before I made the decision so I checked out Angies List and decided to give Phillips a call. Ryan came out and spent a good deal of time explaining everything to me and answered all my questions in detail so that I understood the process. He was very matter of fact and it was truly refreshing to not be pestered with the normal "hard sell" style I had been exposed to in my other two estimates. Ryan told me exactly what I needed and also what I didn't need. He gave me the price, explained the warranty and told me to call if I had any questions. Two months later I called and we made the appointment. The "team" showed up bright and early (on time) and worked quickly and efficiently for two and a half days. I was amazed how much they had done each day. They really work well together and have this down to a science. I was so impressed. They kept their work areas so clean and removed all the job debris. They were very friendly and courteous. Bruce was very knowlegable, answered all my questions and was really nice to talk to. I highly recommend Phillips Basement Waterproofing, Inc. In my book they are A+++!
Description of Work: The Phillips team installed 64 feet of drainage system, 11 steel support beams,3 glass block windows, re-plumbed the sump pump and bleached the walls in my basement. Outside they installed 100 feet of drainage pipe for the sump pump, installed a window well, moved 7 yards of dirt to improve the fall from the house and then seeded the lawn where they put the pipe in the yard.

Extremely well. Ryan was our first contact and he was very professional. He determined what we needed and also pointed out a plumbing leak we had. He ended his call by saying that if we did nothing else we needed to get the plumbing problem fixed asap which we did. His price was fair and compared favorably with the other bids we received. His solution matched the recommendations of a professional engineer we employed to determine what was structurally deficient. Bruce, the owner, and his crew were also extremely professional. It was amazing to us how the got everything in and out of the basement window but they did. They left our property clean, neat and in original condition, except for the repairs. Our experience could not have been better. We would use them again and recommend them without hesitation.
Description of Work: They fixed cracks and added supports to the basement walls. They added new drain systems to one wall. They replaced a non-working sump pump. They replaced the drains from our exterior downspouts.

Before finishing the basement, we wanted a waterproofing system installed in a few areas in particular where we had some water problems when the house was first built. The job actually took a little less time than estimated. Workers arrived promptly, minimized dust coming up to the 1st floor while working, and cleaned up. Bruce seems very knowledgeable about how to keep a basement dry.
Description of Work: Installed 65 feet of HydroFlo network drainage system (around 3/4 of the basement perimeter) tied into the existing sump pump and refinished the concrete that was dug up to install the drainage system.
