They do good work and I recommend them to somebody. They are super nice. They were recommended to us by a family friend, Bruce is the owner and he is friendly. He is top notched all the way through. They were here early and came exactly when they said they will do. Everything was great.
Description of Work: I used the foundation repair service of Phillips Basement Waterproofing Inc. They leveled the ground floor about an inch. They came in, gave the quote and did the work.

I love them. I used them many years ago but I still call them periodically. I have only good things to say based on my experience with them six years ago and the recent visit. They did a great job and their price is great. They were really compassionate because what they do is they rescue basements that are totally destroyed by water and the people are under stress when it happens. They installed six years ago and they still did a checkup on it for free. That is just one of the great things about them that they honor their lifetime guarantee. They told me that it was an insignificant leak, which it was draining outside, it was not really worthy of a service, and so it was fine. I did ask them to do something recently that they didn't actually respond to. When you hire them, you can expect true expertise in this field and a practical approach to solving the problem without excessive bells and whistles.
Description of Work: I used Phillips Basement Waterproofing Inc for basement waterproofing. They last came out to check a little drip on the pipe that goes outside from the sump pump.

He did not charge us anything since nothing needed to be done and since they had been contracted previously (even though it was by previous owners). He was very professional and I would highly recommend Phillips.
Description of Work: Called Phillips out because we had mold growing through the cracks in the half of the unfinished basement. I had called them since the people we bought the house from had used them to fix a major issue that had come about during the buying process of our house. They were used back then based on the recommendation of our real estate agent. They did a really good job back then & I trusted them. They came out to look at my walls. He told me that the problem was due to our drain pipe connection had come just the slightest bit off. He explained that just the tiniest drip over time can cause a problem. He also suggested that we improve the slope of the ground there at that particular spot as well. He said just to clean the mold off with bleach. I was worried about toxic mold since you hear all that scare in the media. He said toxic mold would be rare in this area & not to trust anyone if they said we had toxic mold.

Initially we had an estimate done by another company who told us it would cost 7K to solve the drainage issues in our newly purchased home. This meant uprooting landscaping, fencing, and even sidewalks. We had Ryan come out for a second opinion and he actually took a closer look at the existing sump system and informed us that both sumps were burnt out. Both sumps were covered under our home warranty which meant a $0 cost to us! He also suggested we try snaking the outside drains before spending any money on new drainage. We had Ryan come out a second time when out attempts at snaking the drains was fruitless. Ryan told us that he could not justify having us spend thousands of dollars to redo drainage through our existing landscaping when there was an easier fix: rerouting the roof water to a different drain via the gutter system. Since Phillips does not do gutters, we called another company who installed larger gutters and rerouted the water to the operating drains, thus taking the water to the street. Problem solved! Ryan was personable, professional, and above all HONEST. He saved us thousands of dollars and as a result, will be getting our business again this coming week. We have water coming into our walk-out basement due to a different problem altogether. Thank you Ryan and Phillips Waterproofing...we'd be underwater without you!

Ryan and his father are top notch -- reliable, honest, quality work and provide support and recommendations that complement their work I would highly recommend Phillips Basement for basement drainage work. I previously spent approximately $2000+ collectively for perimeter line and sump pump installed and am very satisfied.
Description of Work: Evaluated current status of perimeter drains they installed several years ago as well as condition of sump pump and made recommendations on other work that would be helpful in water drainage.

Ryan Phillips came out and gave me a quote to install I-beams on the south wall of my basement that had started to bow in. I found him to be very personable and he took his time talking to me about the problem. The original date scheduled for the work to be done was July 31, 2013. I was told to expect them to arrive between 7 -7:30 a.m. When they failed to arrive by 10 am, I called the company. I received a call shortly after I called from the owner saying that my job was on the schedule for July 31st but the job wasn't given to him. It was rescheduled for August 5th. The owner, Bruce Phillips, arrived with his crew early on August 5th and installed 6 I-beams on the south wall of my basement. Problem solved! They did a good job and I would use this company again.

This was the best contractor experience that I have encountered in the 30 years of owning a home and hiring contractors. The owner Bruce Phillips oversaw the work and did a lot of the work himself. We were under a tight time frame to get the waterproofing job completed, and Bruce juggled his schedule to meet it. All the employees were professional, they cleaned up every night, and cleaned up after the job was completed. They kept us informed what was going on and what was to occur next. Bruce has excellent knowledge and the basement is dry as a desert now. We remodeled the basement and everything is staying bone dry. They even came back and fixed a drainage pipe problem from the house to the street that a prior contractor could not fix but charged us. I cannot say enough about Phillips Basement's knowledge of basements and waterproofing, their professionalism, how fast they work, the quality of work, and the overall experience. I would use them again in a heartbeat. They deserve a AAA+ rating. North Columbus
Description of Work: Phillips Basement had to crack the floor all around the basement floor near the wall, dig it out, drill weep holes in the basement wall, lay a drain tile all around the wall beneath the floor, recement the floor, dig out an area for a sump pump and install a sump pump, and connect the train tile around the basement into the sump pump.

I thought their price was very good. They pointed out some things that I did not have to do and pointed out some things that maybe would be more important to do that I was not thinking of. It doesn't really adding to the price. They kind of allowed me to see how it could be more efficient in approaching my problem. They also pointed some things that I could do on my own.

This is a family business. The son provided the estimate and the father supervised and worked alongside the crew. We chose them because their proposal involved significantly more work at a substantially lower price than the other estimate we obtained. During the job, the father noticed that the PVC sump discharge pipe outside our house was broken, and fixed it without additional charge. the only (slightly) negative outcome was that they did not remove two foam board panels and treat any cracks that might be behind them as they had agreed to do. However, we were assured that the channel they dug would handle any leakage that might occur in that area. Overall, we are quite satisfied with their service. They were friendly, prompt, clean, unobtrusive and professional.

He was rude and abrupt. Was here only to sell a big job. When I asked him why he was measuring my whole basement, "he stated we have to give you both prices in case you want both done". They use scare tactics to bilk big money out of homeowners. I already have an entire basement system with sump pump in place. They said my sump pump hole wasn't big enough. Not true. They said I needed a different sump pump, not true. If you have nothing better to do with your money, then hire them. I asked him to leave.
Description of Work: They came to do an estimate and were saying they needed to completely tear apart my yard and basement. They said it was code to have my sump pump empty to the street. It is NOT code in my city. He gave the highest estimate of three companies I had out so far. I already have an existing system which works except for one corner. They want to do your whole basement for the big bucks. Totally unneccesary.

put on I would highly recommend Bruce (rather) and Ryan (son) for any job around my house. I not only received the job they said they would do they went above and beyond what I expected them to do. Very professional business and very friendly at the the same time. The minute Ryan came out to give me the quote I felt I could trust him and I had just been ripped off by Roto Rooter so they had to come in and redo what Roto totally screwed up. My yard was left looking awsome and everything is working excellent. They seem to be very few businesses these days that I have trust in and will go back to or that have proven themselves, but Phillips has done that for me. Thank you Phillips. I will use again and refer as well.
Description of Work: I had a awrul experience from rotor rooter who ripped me off and caused extreme flooding in my yard so I was not sure who to turn to and trust at this point but when I talked to Phillips and Ryan walked in I felt I could trust him right off. Ryan made me feel comfortable about the work that needed to be done in detail and why he wanted to do it this way. He was going to leave me with a contract which he fully explained and said if I wanted him to do the work let him know, I told him I will sign now. Ryan and his father Bruce and another guy handled everything themselves. they put in new downspout, put in new dirt, I am also able to clean out my drain pipes very easily every year with a garden hose. They laid grass seed on the dirt. Who would have figured. They job was so professional..

After reviewing Angie's list and BBB reports I selected this company to determine whether I had a water problem in my basement. Ryan came within a couple of days after I called. After looking at the area of concern he told me I didn't have to be concerned about having a serious water problem - no water is actually coming into the basement. There is water seepage from somewhere that is causing the unsightly deposit on the wall and Ryan explained actions such as possible changing the slope of the soil and ensuring the gutters are not overflowing might help. However he felt the problem was not big enough to warrant spending a lot of money. I was pleased with the information Ryan provided and the time to ensure all my questions were answered. This was a very positive experience and should I ever have a more serious basement water problem I would not hesitate to contact this company.

Ryan found that my wet wall was caused by external issues (poor drainage, downspout issues) and explained how to solve those problems myself or by hiring others. He identified that my basement did have potential problems because of poor construction -- showing me the problem areas and carefully answering questions -- but there was no need to hire his company unless the situation changed dramatically. Ryan gave excellent advice and I am extremely impressed by his expertise, honesty, and good nature. When I bought this house, the home inspector told me that the previous owners were scammed by someone who did unnecessary basement work, and did a rather bad job which subsequently required repairs to the house. Phillips Waterproofing could have scammed me too, but was completely honest and straightforward. If you are looking for a basement inspection, I recommend this company. If every business held high standards like this, Angie's List would be unnecessary!

While we had a rough start, for the office person who took my call apparently neglected to tell the owner, so he didn't show up for our first appointment; nevertheless, I refused to give up, as I read great reviews here on Angie's List. So, I called and left a message about a half-hour past the scheduled appointment. The owner called me back as soon as he received my voicemail, apologized and rescheduled; from that point everything went quite smoothly. Phillips did a great job: thorough, high quality, timely, clean and competitively priced. I highly recommend this company!

I think the son of the company, Ryan came out to give me an estimate on steel beams for my basement. Ryan was very professional. We walked through my basement and discussed what the engineer suggested. The price sounded fair. We briefly discussed waterproofing which involved adding a sump pump for an additional cost of $6000. I explained that there was occasionally a trickle of water in the basement but only on days when we got an extreme amount of rain for a long period of time. We decided a sump pump wasn't necessary. Ryan explained to me that installing the steel beams would be a 2 day job. A glass block window in the basement, would need to be taken out to get the steel beams in, because my kitchen cabinets were too close to the basement door to bring them in through the kitchen. I was concerned about the glass block window being taken out. Ryan explained they would replace the glass block window on the first day. I asked about payment and was told they take credit cards. Bruce Phillips came out to do the work on 4/5/2012. When he entered the basement and looked around, he immediately started talking about waterproofing. I explained to him I was not installing a sump pump. He said ok and told me the last 2 jobs, where he installed steel beams, were started and stopped because they decided to do waterproofing. He then asked if I was looking to make a profit on the house or if I and quot;was looking to give it awayand quot;. I explained I was selling the house. He proceeded to tell me lenders wouldn't give a home loan for a home with a leaky basement. And that adding a sump pump was necessary to bring it up to code. I immediately called my realtor, who explained that homes built before sump pumps were part of code were not required to have them. I went back into the house and explained this to Bruce Phillips. And he said I misconstrued what he said. He was talking about code for waterproofing a basement. He then proceeded to tell me he buys homes and resells them. He wanted me to look at a nearby property. Told me he paints the basement stairs and adds carpets strips to them. I said that's great. I can paint my basement stairs but that's not what we're discussing here. We're discussing waterproofing and I'm not adding a sump pump. He told me the new buyers of my home will find out he did the work and blame him if the basement leaks. He said he was going to have me sign a paper stating that I knew the basement leaked. I told him I wasn't signing anything. I was paying him to install steel beams NOT waterproof the basement. Minutes later he apologized and said no waterproofing was stated on the contract. After the first day of work I noticed the glass block window wasn't replaced. I had a Dr appointment and was not home when they left. There were 2 pieces of wood covering the hole where the glass block window was. It was not secure. I called Phillips and explained that I was told the window would be replaced on the first day. Bruce Phillips came back out and cut a new board to close off the widow. At 7am on the 2nd day of work, Bruce Phillips told me they would be done in 2 hours and presented me with a bill. I mentioned that I wanted to pay with a credit card and he informed me that there would be an additional 5% charge for using a credit card. I explained that was NEVER mentioned when I got the estimate. He said the credit card companies charge him 3.5% and I finished his sentence by saying....and you charge customers 5% and make a profit off of that. He smiled and said yes. In the last 10 years I've hired contractors to remodel my kitchen and bath, install a new furnace, AC and hot water heater, install a fence, replace a roof, pour a new concrete porch and driveway. Bruce Phillips is by far, the most difficult contractor I've ever worked with. I deeply resent the fact that he deliberately confused the issue of what was proper code, in order to try to scare me into spending additional money to waterproof the basement. I will NEVER, I repeat NEVER use this company again. Update 07/06/12 Mr Phillips approached me while I was in the paint department at Home Depot today. Said he had a question. I responded by saying of all the contractors I've hired in the last 10 years, he was the worst. I explained that I didn't want to speak to him and that I never wanted to see him again. He proceeded to follow me to the check out, saying he had a question. Again, I explained that I didn't want to speak to him. Told him to get away from me. He wanted to know what he could do to get me to change this review. I told him nothing. The conversation continued. I left the store and filed a police report with the Columbus Police department.

My experience with Phillips was great from start to finish. I was looking to sell my house and needed to have the cracked walls in the basement reinforced. I got quotes from several other foundation repair places. Ryan came out and was very straightforward and professional. No high pressure sales, honest simple evaluation on the estimate. Their pricing was very well below the competition, which had me leery at first, but that apprehension was wrong. Andy came out to install the beams, and he arrived a little early, was very courteous and professional, and worked quickly and cleanly. The work was done exceptionally well and thoroughly. Everything looked fantastic when it was done. They provided a guarantee with their work and I was very satisfied with the final results.

Our house was built in 1941 and apparently never had proper basement draining. They removed approximately 12 inches of the existing concrete floor around the perimeter, installed gravel and drain piping and a sump pump. They then covered the perimeter with concrete. There were minor follow-up questions and we found them very responsive. They did an excellent job of protecting the rest of the house and basement from dust during the process. They had to remove a glass block window to remove waste, and did a great job of installing the replacement. We now have a dry basement twelve months after the repairs.

Upon contacting Phillips for a cost estimate to address a problem with a bowing basement wall, was promptly scheduled for a cost estimate inspection. Ryan arrived on time and was courteous and friendly. He carefully inspected the wall and provided his recommendations. The cost estimate was very reasonable as compared to other recommendations and estimates. On the scheduled day the crew arrived on time with all required supplies and equipment. I was pleased to observe that they first laid down protective plastic sheeting over the carpet. They quickly removed the old basement windows, verified the proper positioning of the steel beams, and hung plastic sheeting to keep dust from spreading to the rest of the basement. The beam and glass block window installation work was accomplished in an efficient, professional, and courteous manner. The crew was also very patient and friendly in answering my numerous novice questions! after completion of the job, the work area was thoroughly cleaned up. Will definitely call them again for any basement water leakage or foundation problems!
