Considering the size of these walnuts trees, and the location of the branches, I was extremely concerned about the quality of this project. Kevin's team was very patient in explaining the process, the steps necessary to remove the branches and what alternatives I had with the trees. They did efficient and timely work. Could not be more pleased with the price, quality and timing of their work. Would highly recommend.
Description of Work: Kevin and his team trimmed two, very tall walnut trees that were looming over our house. They also removed a 15 ft tree in between our house and our neighbors & ground two stumps. I accepted their quote on Friday afternoon and they did the work on Monday morning. Extremely quick, professional and skilled. Did great work and neatly stacked the firewood in a pre-determined location.

I had gotten an estimate in January 2012 for the removal of a large sweet gum tree, but needed to wait to have it done. In the fall of 2012 I contacted Maplewood Tree Company and asked them if they would still honor the estimate from earlier in the year. They said "yes" so I had them remove my tree and grind the stump. There were 5-6 men in my yard working on the removal. The were courteous, and did a good job. They even stacked the wood from the tree on my woodpile to use in our fireplace. I have used this company several times to remove shrubs and trees and have always been happy with their service.

Both jobs went very well. They knew what needed to be done and completed their work in a very short period of time. The crew member who cabled the tree did an excellent job! He climbed up in the tree and installed the cable at a perfect place to secure the limb. It looks great and it gives me peace of mind knowing that that limb will hopefully survive any future storms. The crew who took down the spruce did an excellent job too. They had to work in and around the other trees to take it down without causing limb damage. They cleaned up the area and raked whatever debris was on the ground. They shredded the main limbs and hauled everything away. I must say, the area looks different now with the tree gone, but it had to be done. Overall, we are very satisfied with the work that was done and want to express our appreciation to Shane for taking my call in mid December and wanted to do the work for us. Also, we want to thank Kevin and his crew for a job well done! He made sure the contract was written exactly as we discussed. I really appreciated that! Kevin and his crew's professionalism and work ethic were great!
Description of Work: We have an Ash tree in our backyard that's 25 years old and was needing a limb cabled to prevent any futher damage to the tree from a severe storm we had in June. We lost a 30' limb that had broken away from the main trunk. This also caused a weakness in a limb that was adjacent to the limb that came down. I was concerned that if we had an ice-storm this winter, the extra weight would take it down too. So, I called Maplewood Tree Service on 12/10/12 and spoke to Shane about my concerns and the condition of the tree. He said they will use a "protective sleeve" around the limb and the main trunk with a steel cable to secure them together. He said he would send Kevin out to look at the tree the next day. As promised, Kevin called yesterday and said he was on his way to look at the tree. While he was here, he also noticed that we had a spruce tree that was in bad shape from a disease or insects. He suggested that it be taken down to keep the problem from spreading to the other adjacent spruce trees. It was losing a lot of sap, so I agreed. The tree was old and at least 20 to 25 feet tall, so taking it down would not be an easy task. So, yesterday afternoon Kevin and his crew showed up to do the work.

They were still in the area and came within 15 minutes. They did an excellent job - better then a company we had about 5 years ago, which charged us double what we spent. They removed the dead and broken limbs from 3 trees, cleaned up everything and were finished in less then an hour.
Description of Work: This company came door to door asking if we wanted an estimate on removing dead limbs from our trees. We don't usually agree to door to door sales but I knew that we had a limb which was broken from storms and I didn't want my husband to climb into the tree to get it as it was near the electric lines. They gave me an estimate and when I asked my husband, he said it was about $100 less then one he had obtained. I checked Angies List and found their "A" rating which is why I called them.

Called Maplewood's office in the afternoon. They contacted Kevin in the field and he came to give me an estimate the same day. Within 2 days he had trimmed and shaped 2 medium size trees (Crabapple and Maple). I was very satisfied with the trimming. Cleanup was immaculate (total $200). The following week on a second property they trimmed and thinned a very large maple tree and a small crabapple tree. They also removed a small crabapple and a medium dogwood tree and ground the stumps of each. The trees look great. I mowed and raked leaves the following weekend and did not find a single stray twig (total $800). Overall, I am very satisfied with their work, price, professionalism, and responsiveness.

I inquired and Kevin came out right away after work (to accomodate me) and gave us a reasonable estimate. I got a competing estimate and he beat it and was literally at our house 45 minutes after I gave him the green light. Their crew worked hard and cleaned up nicely and the job looked very professional. They alerted me that there was a squirrel's nest in one of the trees with baby squirrels in it and they left that portion of the trunk near the original spot so the mom could find the baby squirrels. All around Maplewood is a class act. I would use them again.

We had a 20 foot tall yew tree in front of our house, actually touching the house. Some strong winds had caused the tree to split but not fall. Half of it was leaning toward our neighbors house. We spoke to someone on Wed. morning and had someone out with an estimate by Wed. afternoon. The tree was removed on Friday while I was at work. The workers did a great job and cleaned up so well, you wouldn't have known that there had been a tree there. They also ground out the stump. Since I was at work, they were not paid. I received a call this morning with the total price which was the estimate of $300 minus a 10% discount for Angie's list members.

They were very professional in their dealings with me. I contacted them and asked for a quote. The quote was delivered the same day. A little higher than I expected, but not by much. They offered to do the job that very day. I had some other quote requests outstanding, so I asked for a little time. As it stands, they came in lower than the other quote. They were there on time to finish the job, I did not have to remind them or wait for them or anything. They called me when the job was done to let me know. It was well done too. Unfortunately, I could not meet them right then to pay for the service, but they agreed to come by the next day to collect the cheque. Very professional about everything and pleasant to deal with, much better experience than some of the other services listed here with higher number of reports. I would definitely keep them in mind if I need tree service again. The only surprise was they asked to be paid by cheque rather than by credit card, which was not that big a deal.
Description of Work: I needed four dead mid-size ash trees removed, two trees in the back trimmed and two more trees in the back removed as well. One of those last was a rather tall tree as well. The job included removing the stumps of the dead trees as well.

Wonderfully efficient company. Four workers arrived as scheduled at 10 AM and cut the whole thing down by 6PM. The main climber was in the tree for at least 5 hours straight. The tree's branches overhung the house, and they took them down without damaging anything. They didn't need a crane, all done by hand and ropes. The electrical wire in the way did not pose a problem, either. The next day they arrived to grind the stump, and distributed the mulch on our other beds.

The crew did a fantastic job considering the size of the tree. They came within hours after I made the call to request services. I had been given an estimate 2 weeks before by George. They brought the appropriate equipment to do the job and enough help to complete the task. The technique to avoid damage to existing lawn was phenomenal, considering the size and weight of the limbs. The stump grinding and clean up was done to what I would consider the best possible. The crew worked very hard to do a good job. Thanks!
Description of Work: They took down a very large tree (approx. 90 ft) from front yard. They hauled off the wood, ground the stump, and hauled off the chips. They filled any holes with top soil and cleaned up the yard.

I asked them to come in to give me the estimates, they came out in the morning and they did that and then they said that they would do the work that same day, so they sent the guys over and they trimmed all my trees and they were done with the whole job in just three hours. They did an awesome job, they have great price and they even brought their prices down for me so that they could work that day. They were amazing. I think that they just wanted to work that day because I think they had people who were ready to work, but didn’t have a job and that is why they gave me such a good price. They really did a super job. I would definitely use them again in the future.

I called the company up on 4/11/12 @ 5pm.....came out that night and gave an estimate on ash tree ( included cut down and bore out stump). Arrived the next morning at 10:30 am to do the job....crew consisted of 5 men and the man that did the estimate. I did not get any other estimates....when I saw Angie List on Truck, I was satisfied. They did the jop and were great at cleaning up afterwards. When we asked if they could prune a Maple Tree we had while they were here, they said no problem. Both trees cut and clean up was great! The entire experience was very professional and I would highly recommend them!

Our neighbor was having her tree removed, and we decided to ask the company if they would give us an estimate for some trimming. They came over within 5 minutes and said they could do it for $1100.00 since we were members of Angie's list. After they finished with our neighbor, they came over immediately to start working. Within 1-2 hours, they had trimmed our honey locust where it was hanging over the house, as well as other errant branches and suckers. They also trimmed our 3 very high spruce trees(about 50-60 feet high) near the bottom. The branches were very long and heavy. The clean up was done very neatly and quickly. We would recommend them to everybody. George was very friendly and accommodating.

George and his team arrived within a couple of hours of my call for an estimate. Had the chipper truck and another truck, so I knew the hard sell was coming. It did! First estimate was $1500, gave me the repeat customer discount of of $1100. When I told him I wasn't making a decision until I had more estimates, the number came down to $700. That was the figure I expected, and they had done satisfactory work for us before, so I had them do the work. They did a good job and finished in a couple of hours. Only one problem, when they blew out the gutters they left a mess on my patio and furniture that I had to clean up. That's the reason for the B ratings. If you can negotiate the hard sell, they will do a good job for you.'

Maplewood Tree Service did a great job. They gave me a written estimate detailing all the work to be done, a good price, and a business card showing that they had won Angie List Awards. They worked me into their schedule the very next day. The crew, including the owner, worked very efficiently, had all the work completed in a very timely manner, and were courteous. ALL the debris was cleaned up as though they had never been there, and they were insistent about having me look at everything that had been done, offering to work more on anything that did not totally please me. I would use their services again.
Description of Work: They took down a tall pine tree and ground out the roots, topped a row of 12-15 foot tall cedar bushes so that they were straight across, cut off lower branches from a maple tree, and cleaned out all the dead branches from inside a huge weeping cherry tree.

I have no serious complaints about their work, but in comparing the price charged me and the prices charged other Angie's list reporters, I think my price was significantly higher relative to the work that was done. I blame myself for not getting competing estimates and letting them do the work on the day of the estimate (they were working at the house across the street when I asked them for an estimate). I would use them again, but I would research the price carefully next time. I paid a premium for getting the work done so quickly. I was also dismayed to learn that they don't take charge cards. It did not occur to me to ask, because I've not encountered a service provider recently who does not take charge cards. Their refusal caused a problem, and I had to give them a postdated check with fingers crossed (banks do not always check dates, I've found).
Description of Work: We had 4 large trees deadwooded, lifted off the house, and thinned a bit. A half dozen dead branches were taken off two other trees. A crew of six worked for 2 hours. They worked efficiently and professionally and cleaned up the yard nicely. When I inspected their work, I found four dead branches left over, and they removed three of them, saying they couldn't reach the other one. I also asked them to completely remove one branch that they had simply chopped off in the middle, and they did so.

Due to windstorm, one large maple tree in our backyard had snapped at the base and fallen towards the house. It did not land on the house, but was blocking the back patio door. I called Maplewood the next morning to see if they could give me an estimate over the phone. They said they would be in the area with a crew and equipment and wanted to look at it first and would call before they came, which they did. Upon arrival, they called me at work to provide an estimate which was acceptable. The gentleman indicated since the crew was right there, they could do the job right then to which I agreed. It was to their advantage to have the crew/equipment ready to go. Had they not been ready to work, I probably would have chosen another contractor that we have used in the past. The tree was removed and the area completely cleaned up by the time we got home from work.

I contacted Maplewood and another tree service based on information in Angie's List. Maplewood returned my call within 24 hours and Kevin came to the house after 5 pm at my request. He inspected the trees and said he would be in touch with an initial estimate. The next day he provided a verbal estimate over the phone. I indicated his initial estimate was too high. He reworked the numbers and delivered the written estimate in person. After an estimate was received from another tree removal service, we decided to go with Maplewood. Kevin came by with the final contract on Feb 24. Kevin and his 5 man crew arrived mid-morning on Saturday. From the moment they arrived, they worked non-stop for over 7 hours. The weather was cold. Snow and slush covered the yard and driveway. They worked very efficiently as a team. Everyone knew their jobs and needed little supervision. On several occasions, one worker would tap or otherwise notify a co-worker involved in another task, when something was about to come down. The free-climber was very skillful and actually fun to watch. At times he was 60 - 70 feet in the air, but always maintained a safety line and tied off all limbs that were being cut so they wouldn't just fall to the ground. One of the trees being heavily pruned was within 20 feet of my neighbor's house and the branches hung over their power lines. Another was within 15 feet of our house. In both cases, nothing was damaged. The worker using the bucket to prune the driveway trees was also very skillful, both with the bucket and his chainsaws. Again, safety was always at the forefront, as all branches were tied off before cutting. Kevin was the supervisor, but was always doing something, not just standing around. A neighbor of ours was interested in our cut wood, so Kevin & his crew cut all of the large pieces (several cords) into uniform, manageable lengths and stacked them neatly in several locations around the yard. After all work was complete, they spent at least 30 minutes cleaning & sweeping as much debris & sawdust as possible. With the snowcover & slush, this was a thankless job, but I was more than happy with their effort & the results. The bottom line is MY TREES LOOK GREAT! They have a very professionally trimmed look. No topping, just nice visual lines. I can't wait for the first leaves.....
Description of Work: Maplewood Removed two 90 foot tall silver maple trees from my yard. They also 'heavily' pruned 8 other trees ranging from 50 feet to 80 feet tall. They ground down the two stumps. They cleaned up all debris. They were going to remove the large, non-chippable remnants, but they left it at our request.
