Computer got a virus and I could no longer use any programs. I made calls to friends and other companies with little success. My son said to call the Lap Top Guy. I checked Angies list and found an ad. I called and they said to bring it in or they could pick it up. They told me it would take 3 days to diganosis the problem. They called in 3 days and told me what was wrong and the options I had. Stating a price for each option. They said it would be ready in 3 days and it was.
Description of Work: They cleaned and replaced those programs which could be saved.

I was greeted by an experienced person, who explained all of my options and possible scenarios. He told me I would receive an estimate in 3-5 business days. I think I heard from them in 4. Meanwhile, I had received an e-mail from them listing their policies and giving me the name of a contact person, in case I had any questions. When they called me with the estimate, they were very clear about what all would take place. I was told I would hear back from them in 5 business days. It was either 1 or 2. I feel like they were very clear about everything they would do and what I could expect.
Description of Work: My laptop wasn't working well at all. I took it in and they ran some diagnostic tests on it. They determined the problem and called me with an estimate to repair, as well as some options. I agreed to the repair and they did the work. It is now working as well as when it was new.

It took about 5 days to get the laptops diagnosed & repaired. The recomended work done both computers now work well.
Description of Work: The Laptop Guy diagnosed the problems on two laptops. One had a failed hard drive which I had replaced with a new drive. The other had a bad RAM memory card which I also had replaced.

It went very well. They were very responsive and worked quickly. I knew after two days that the mother board had fried and was not repairable. They were very helpful and very clear in their explanation.

Excellent. Everyone with whom I had contact was very professional and helpful. And I thought Todd went out of his way to help me select another laptop the satisfied my needs without investing in more hardware/software than necessary.
Description of Work: I used Laptop Guy for a couple of services. First, they inspected and repaired a Toshiba laptop. Cost was less than $200.00 total. Second, I purchased an IBM/Lenovo R50P laptop. Approx. total cost including software, docking station, tax, etc. was $800.

My laptop stopped being able to charge, apparently due to a broken power adaptor. After getting quotes from several companies, I took it to the Laptop Guy due to it being the cheapest with my Angie's List discount. It took them several days to diagnose the problem, and another several to fix it. My laptop works fine now, but the initial power cord they gave me to go with the new adaptor was revealed to be defective a week later. They replaced the power cord free of charge. I was satisfied enough with the experience to recommend the company to my father when he had a similar laptop malfunction.

I had make three trips to the storefront. They successfully recovered the data, but they were unable to tell me why it was crashing. I purchased more ram from them and now everything seems to work fine.

The problems were a little expensive to fix. It took a little while for them to get back to us. The diagnostic fee is $80 which is a little expensive.

The guy blew me off, he sold me 300 dollars of equipment. That did not work. He is very unreliable and unprofessional. He told me that there was nothing that he could do for me when I tried to call him back telling him that it would not work.

Very good. The sales rep showed me 4 different models on display, and gave me a complete demo on the two that I was interested in buying. Then, when I had made my choice, and was ready to purchase, showed me where all the operating features were located. Explained the warranty to me, and advised me to consider buying the extend warranty, at a later date, if I did not want to purchase that feature at time or purchase of the laptop. Am satisfied with my selection, and have had it for about three weeks now, and will go back and get the extended warranty in a week or so, just before the end of this month.
Description of Work: Had interest in buying a used, reconditioned laptop for under $500.00 that did not have Vista on it, but was easy to use and ready to go.

The technicians were helpful and seemed very knowledgeable. When we were paying for the service I saw a flyer for Angie's List on the counter and asked if they gave members of the list any special compensation. It turns out they did refund some of the cost since I was a member. Very nice - but it would have been nicer to have it identified up front instead of after I asked about it and we had paid. Overall we were very satisfied with the service and the work they did.
Description of Work: Our 3 year old laptop was not working - unable to connect to the internet and VERY slow to respond. Several programs were not functioning well. We took the laptop to the Laptop Guy and they were able to service our computer without any problem. We had it back within a few days and have been very happy with its performance now.

I spill coffee on my laptop and burned out my keyboard. Since it was no longer under warranty I purchased the replacement keyboard from the manufacturer and was looking for someone to install it into my laptop. Most companies I contacted could not do the hardware replacement or if they could do it they were estimating over a week turn around time. I called the Laptop Guy, spoke directly with Todd and he said that if I took my computer to the Gahanna location they could have it replaced in 45 minutes. When I arrived, Joe greeted me in the lobby and already knew who I was and what I was there for due to my phone conversation with Todd. He took my information and had the work completed in under a half an hour! I walked out under $100 (after they accepted my Angie's List coupon) with a 256mb flash drive as a "gift." I was absolutely blown away by the customer service and turn around time. My computer is my entire business and I was down less than a day - THANK YOU!!!

After this associate made me feel comfortable about my purchase by allowing me to make an informed decision about my new computer, I was so fortunate to experience what I believe was an extended service. Took the laptop to their excellent looking Gahanna, Ohio store. Checked the computer in with a pleasant, very competent technician. He wrote the work to be done clearly and concisely along with an initial estimate on cost and time frame. The work was to be performed with relatively little down time for the computer. The next day a technician called with the estimate and what they had found potentially causing the slow speed on start-up and provided potential fix. I approved the cost estimate and they proceeded the next day. The laptop work was completed the third day and when I picked the laptop up the technician at the service desk reviewed all that had been done and we started the laptop up and it indeed moved to read in short order. The work was performed on time, on money and very professionally, in my view.
Description of Work: The Laptop Guy evaluated & cleaned our laptop. Our complaint was that it was slow on start-up and needed tweaked.

The staff was extremely helpful and everyone I talked to knew a great deal about my exact problem. The repair took longer than I hoped it would as I can't live without my laptop for a day, but no longer than the quotes they gave me before my approval to perform the repair. The gentlemen on the phone kept me updated on the progress and promptly returned my calls. When I got my computer back everything was working great and they even cleaned it up for me. They also included a 1 year warranty while most places I called for quotes only offered a couple months.
Description of Work: I had a problem with my computer not accepting a charge anymore from the power cord. I took it in to Best Buy's Geek Squad and they told me they would have to replace the entire motherboard and that it would cost over $700! One of the employees was kind enough to inform me of the Laptop Guy. I took my laptop to them and for $250 they were able to fix the problem (DC Jack?) for only $250.

I probably won't use this company again. They wanted to charge me $200 to make my computer firm when opening. I luckily ran across a high school employee who did it there for me free of charge. They also did not completely resolve the issue with the wireless card. I continued to have problems with it after they had my computer all that time. I feel like for spending such a large amount of money, they had my computer an awfully long time and I thought $200 sounded really expensive to fix a problem to make it firm again.
Description of Work: The Laptop Guy is where I bought my 8000 computer. I took it back most recently because the wireless card was not properly hooking up and it was not firm when opening. They sent the computer out for repairs and they had it for about a week. I paid one hundred dollars in full for them to try to fix my wireless hook up problem.

My wife recently tripped on our laptops power cord which dislodged the power connector. This accident resulted in a working laptop that could not be charged, which I used until the battery ultimately died. We decided to hire The Laptop Guy and dropped off our laptop to The Grandview location, which shipped the unit down to their Grove City repair facility. At that time, they indicated that the assessment would be $79 and a tech would call with a better estimate upon initial inspection. The LTG tech called my wife and informed her that the connector could be replaced and the repair would be roughly 250 dollars to complete the job. We agreed to proceed with replacing the connector and a couple days later the tech called again to inform us his repair has gone horribly wrong and he had accidentally killed our laptops motherboard, and now the repair would have to include a replacement motherboard priced around $600! I had an awful experience with this company, still unresolved.

AS YOU CAN IMAGINE I WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS VERY UNFAVORABLE RATING. AS SOON AS I RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF THIS POSTING I LOOKED INTO THE FACTS AND SPOKE WITH OUR GARAGE ADVISER ABOUT THE SITUATION. WHEN HE READ THE POSTING HE WAS SHOCKED. I CAN SAY WITH THE MOST CERTAINTY THE FACTS THAT HE INDICATES OUR SIMPLY NOT TRUE. WE NEVER WOULD HAVE CALLED AND SAID WE DAMAGED YOUR LAPTOP AND YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR OUR MISTAKE. THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. THEY NEVER CONTACTED US WITH ANY CONCERNS. IN FACT THEY LET US KEEP THE LAPTOP. WE HAVE SINCE MARCH 3, MADE 2 PHONE CALLS AND SENT AN EMAIL SO THAT WE COULD DISCUSS THIS MATTER. WE HAVE GOTTEN NO RESPONSE. I WOULD POST THE ENTIRE EMAIL I WROTE TO THEM BUT THERE IS A 1500 CHARACTER LIMIT. THE PROBLEM WITH YOUR LAPTOP WAS THAT THE POWER PIN RECEIVED ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE DUE TO SOMEONE TRIPPING OVER THE POWER CORD. WHEN OUR TECHNICIAN LOOKED AT YOUR LAPTOP IT APPEARED THAT WE COULD REPLACE YOUR POWER PIN AND YOUR LAPTOP WOULD BE BACK UP AND RUNNING. NOW I MUST PREFACE THIS BY SAYING THAT IT’S THE TYPE OF REPAIR WE HAVE TO DO 1ST TO MAKE SURE IT’S SUCCESSFUL. JUST BECAUSE WE CAN RE-SOLDER A POWER PIN TO THE BOARD DOESN’T GUARANTEE THE MACHINE WILL POWER UP. THIS WAS THE CASE WITH YOUR LAPTOP AND WE DON’T CHARGE FOR AN ATTEMPTED REPAIR. I CAN ASSURE THAT IF WE HAD CAUSED ANY DAMAGE IN THE REPAIR WE WOULD NOT HAVE CALLED YOU AND ASKED FOR MORE MONEY. 90% OF THE TIME WE ARE SUCCESSFUL WITH THIS TYPE OF REPAIR.
