After a different company did something that caused our motor to short out in our furnace (and gave us an estimate to replace the entire unit) KNOW came out within an hour of our call and showed us how our HVAC system works and why it was not working properly. Then told us that we could fix the problem by just replacing the motor, not the whole unit.

My daughter noticed that our air handler was making a terrible humming noise, and not blowing air. She also notice the smell of something not quite burning... there was no smoke, but she smelled something burning. I checked the air handler, heard the sound, and tried to check to see if the motor was turning. It was not, and I didn't smell anything burning. I did a more thorough check of the air handler. I didn't see anything burned, didn't smell anything burned, and the motor turned freely. I determined that I needed help in understanding what the problem was. A technician from the first Angie's List company that I called came in a timely manner, diagnosed the problem, and reported that the air handler was totally shot. He said the motor, control board, and all controls were "shorted to ground". The technician also said that the average life of a heat pump system was twelve years, and our system was nearly double that. He advised us that it would cost more to replace all of the parts than it would to buy a new system. I wasn't comfortable with his diagnosis since it didn't seem possible based on my own inspection (a motor can't be shorted to ground and still humming as if it is trying to start up). Nevertheless, I setup an appointment with the company's sales person to come and provide us a quote. The estimate to replace our system was approximately $8000. I was distraught! While calling around for a second estimate on a system, I continued to have a nagging feeling about the diagnosis. I decided to call Know Heating and Air Conditioning for a second opinion. Scott the Know Heating technician arrived on time and was very professional. He took off the cover to the air handler motor area, checked to see if the motor would rotate, and then turned the system on. The system started immediately! Scott turned the system off, removed a motor capacitor and checked to see if it was good. It was weak at less than 75% of its capacity. It was also a diagnosis that I could believe in, and was in line with what I suspected was the problem. Based on Scott's diagnosis, and my previous online research, I knew that the cost for the capacitor would be less than $30. I opted to complete the actual repair myself, and immediately ordered the part. Within a couple of days, the air handler was back to running normally. I would use Know Heating and A.C. in a heartbeat! Their service was excellent and the integrity of Scott above reproach. Getting a second opinion from them saved me thousands of dollars that frankly I could not afford to spend. When it comes time to replace our system, the business will be Know Heating's to lose. Trust and integrity really count, and as long as Know Heating continues to have reasonable prices and operate in an above board manner, they will absolutely continue to have earned my business. More importantly, I will recommend them to others, and send them business on an on going basis. Good business practices get rewarded with more business. Scot and Know Heating and Air Conditioning thank you ever so much. You are tops in our book!

My A/C unit quit working the day after the storm, and during the worst part of the heat wave. I called to schedule an appointment since I saw that they worked on Saturdays. I was told that they were booked, but I asked to be put on the cancellation list. Within an hour, I received a call that a serviceman could come to my home. Scott arrived shortly and was able to restore my service within 20 minutes. Needless to say, I was very happy as the house began to cool down immediately. I would definitely use this company again. Pena called to schedule my maintenance. The technician was to arrive between 6 & 8. I received reminder calls and the technician was at my house promptly at 6 PM. He went right to work cleaning and checking my outside air conditioner, explaining what he was doing as he went along. He then installed a new digital thermostat. He was very thorough and mindful of not tracking dirt into the house, etc. I highly recommend this company.

Arrived very quickly. Entered home and asked me to follow him so as to see what he is doing. Went to basement to check ac lines and indicated all is well.Went out side to see unit and immediately noted how dirty the unit was and that it was not working. Pointed out that due to his experience, before opening unit he could tell that the capacitor is probably damaged. It was damaged. He replaced it, gave me teh old one and returned from truck with new one. Pointed out that the specs were same as on the old one. Absolutely incredible!!

No hassle, no pressure, no mess left in my basement. ...and now I have a better understanding of our furnace.

He found a problem in the condenser; he took pictures for both himself and me, so I could show my home warranty company. If the top rated experience was a 10, I would give him a 12.
