JAMES M. HARTLEY ELECTRIC, LLC is a reliable OHIO LICENSED residential electrical contractor for 19 years servicing the Central Ohio area. We are a small Company that provides individualized service to our customers. We take pride in our work and treat your home with respect. We do not subcontract your work out to other companies and do not use subcontractors. Our work is performed in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC). In Ohio, IT IS ILLEGAL TO DO ANY ELECTRICAL WORK WITHOUT AN OHIO LICENSE, yet there are many companies without an electrical license that call themselves "electricians" advertising to do electrical work and offering what they describe as "deals". In Ohio, the electrician is required to have their license number in every advertisement. Be sure to look for that Ohio License number as it is your guide that the "electrician" is licensed in Ohio. As part of the Ohio license renewal, all applicants must have at least the minimum limit of insurance and required class study to help protect the consumer. Description of Work: We had a semi-emergency issue and everyone we called said it would be 5-7 days before they could come out. I called James Hartley Electric based on the reviews and the phone was answered immediately and by a human! And she was polite and sweet. I explained our situation and she said she'd give him a call and see what they could do. | |Within half an hour "James" himself called and said he had a worker in the area who could be here within an hour or two. His worker was respectful and friendly and fixed the immediate issue within in about a half an hour. | |We were so pleased with everything about this family owned company we decided to have more work done so we scheduled for the next week. Before that, the same night as a matter of fact, the owner called to check how we felt about the work and ask about what else we were interested in doing. I don't recall the bill but we didn't pay as the electrician (also James), said they'd just roll it over until after they'd finished the other work we'd decided to have done. It was all in a couple of hours the next week. |They placed reset buttons in three bathrooms, checked all outlets, put a light in my closet and the total for both visits and the work, again done well and quickly, was around $325-$350. I would call them again in a heartbeat. The kind lady who answered the phone was the owner's wife, "Pat" and it was simply a delight from start to finish to deal with a company that obviously takes pride in their work, and how they treat people. It reminded me of earlier decades when companies courted you and worked hard to please you. I'd recommend them to anyone.

I am sorry that you feel the price was above what you think is appropriste. The costs are as followed, $30.00 for the cost of the dimmer and $75.00 for the service call (generally we have a first hour minimum of $150.00 labor fee, but if we're there less than 15 minutes I only charge $75.00). I hope this clears up the question of the cost. In turn I would have been more than willing to discuss the bill at the time, but several months have passed between the time we provided our services to the time you submitted this review.

I had met him when he did the rewiring for my remodeling job. I got a feeling of trust when I talked to him during that project. I actually ended up having four lights put up, as well as two ceiling fans. Within a week, he came to do the work.

Made appt for 11:00 on a Thursday, was a no show, but received a message on my phone on Friday, saying he had stopped out on Thursday, but missed me. He called later the next week and I stated since he was a no show decided to go with another electrician, his only apology was that he had multipe appts on that Thursday.

Again I do apologize, but per our conversation, I said I'd try to be there before 11:00 but told you I had a previous appointment at 9:00, and that with your project being outside I didn't need for you to be there for me to write an estimate. I did try to inform you I was running late but you didn't answer your phone, I did arrive at 11:30, and called you again at 11:45 but again no answer. I also continued to call for the next week and it wasn't until one week later you responding to me. In the past I have worked for this condo assoc. and never had any problems with the person that previously held your position which is where you received my name and number. I really feel this rating is unfair due to the fact that the appointment was only for an estimate and I did try to contact you in advance.

We feel safer now with our electrical system now that Jim inspected and worked on the various deficiencies in our system. He is very knowledgeable and is very easy to talk to and explains his work well and doesn't mind showing you what he is doing. He is worth the amount he charges as this is the second job he has done for us where he has corrected what previous electricians made mistakes on. If you ever need to double check your contractor or just want to know your home is safe, I would highly recommend him. He does all types of electrical. Want it done right, then call Jim.
Description of Work: Repair light fixture (it was installed incorrectly by prior owner). Checked electrical box for safety, found all wires were not connected correctly and tightened to correct specs. Found reversed polarity at several plugs and corrected.

JIM WAS VERY POLITE AND WAS ON TIME. HE FINISHED THE JOB IN ONE DAY AND CLEANED UP AFTER HIMSELF. HE ALSO WAS UNDERSTANDING IN MY METHOD OF PAYMENT WE WORKED OUT. I WOULD HIRE HIM AGAIN.
Description of Work: I HAD A NEW SERVICE LINE AND METER PUT IN ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE. JIM ALSO RAN NEW WIRE FROM THE METER TO THE BREAKER BOX. THIS HOUSE WAS BUILT IN THE 1920'S AND STILL HAD THE ORIGINAL WIRING. JIM REPLACED WHAT HE COULD AND ADDED LINES AND MORE BREAKERS TO SEPARATE THE UPSTAIRS FROM THE FIRST FLOOR AND BASEMENT.
