I had three people come out to give me estimates on fixing a problem with water in a corner of my basement. The sump pump kept overflowing, and water would back up into the rest of the room. I was also aware of water standing in the side yard outside this corner after a heavy rain. The other people I talked to wanted to either dig up the whole yard or dig up the whole basement. Pat at Hydra suggested several things we could do in stages rather than bringing out the big guns all at once. They agreed to come out and replace my sump pump with a more powerful model and relace the drain pipe inside. They would hand dig the outside pipe and replace only the broken portion, (it ended up being about 25 feet). The day of repairs, Pat and his crew placed plastic down on the interior floors to prevent tracking in dirt, and when they left everything looked the same as when they came in. Outside, they hand dug up the sod and replaced it when they were finished, causing very little disruption to the landscape. AND BEST OF ALL THEY CAME IN UNDER BUDGET. I have already recommended Hydra to a friend and would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Replaced basement sump pump and pipe to exterior, dug up and replaced cracked and broken drain pipe between gutter and street.

Pat came out to assess the problem in my basement, where water was leaking onto the floor through two of the concrete-block walls. I had had two other waterproofing companies out for estimates previously, but chose Hydra for two reasons: 1. Pat's presentation was clear, professional and direct, without wasting my time or trying to sell me on unnecessary services, and 2. Hydra's price for 54 feet of perimeter drain was equal to the estimate I had been given for 22 feet of drain from another waterproofing company with a bigger advertising budget. The work was scheduled for 10 days after I entered into agreement and was completed in two days. The Hydra crew was efficient, professional, polite and orderly, and Pat checked in several times and was always available for any questions that arose. Highly recommended.

I would give them high ratings. Their price was fair, I mean, their price was competitive. We did ask around and their price seemed to be very competitive. The owner is very, very conscientious and detail oriented. I think they did a very good job for us. I would use them again, if needed.

They did a superb job. Pat described his procedure in detail, and was professional, patient and courteous about answering all questions. The men cleaned up after themselves each day, and were also courteous about answering any questions. This was a messy, difficult job, and the team did their best to have it impact our lives as little as possible. We have had several hard rains since the job was completed, and there are no puddles in the basement.
Description of Work: We had puddles of water in our basement after every rain, but were unable to locate the source of the leaks. Pat Kirby and his workers put a waterproofing system around all the walls of the basement. To do this they needed to remove metal wall support beams and jackhammer the cement floor around all the basement walls, remove the old cement and replace the cement floor when they finished.

Our old house had a very wet basement caused primarily by a series of broken pipes leading to an old cistern. Hydra diagnosed the problem and eliminated it. They created a trench at the base of the interior wall, filled it with river stone, then covered it with concrete. This trench directs incoming water to the sump pump installation, to which they added a battery backup. At a later date they returned to apply a white stablizing and waterproofing treatment to the interior walls and to install a black rubber covering over the basement floor, which was partially dirt and partially old concrete. The result is a dry and much brighter, cleaner basement. Since the work was done, there have been several heavy rainstorms, and there has been no sign of moisture. Other contractors, who have entered the basement to provide other services, have commented upon how nice this basement looks compared to many other old houses.
Description of Work: 1) Installed interior trench to reroute rainwater to sump pump area 2) Installed battery backup for sump pump 3) Treated interior basement walls with stablizing and waterproofing material 4) Installed rubber floor covering over dirt/concrete floor

They were just excellent overall. We had a horrid rain and I could not account for the water that I was getting in the basement. I thought that it was coming down the wall but when I looked at it, it was coming up from the cracks on the floor which was major. I called them and the gentleman came out immediately, and we talked about it. They came the next day and completely redid it after putting the new system in. They cleaned everything up and it was wonderful. The experience was well worth the price and it was just phenomenal. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Everybody were just wonderful and very knowledgeable.

Unlike Hydra, some companies don't seem to be interested in craw space work. The solution recommended and installaed by Pat and his crew will resolve moisture problems in my craw spaces. The work crew did an excellent job of installation and went above and beyond what was expected. Their attention to detail and willingess to explain their work is greatly appreciated. As the home owner, it helps to build the confidence that the right solution is being implemented.

From the moment I called Pat Kirby it was top notch service. When I first called Pat he was walking into his office and asked if he could call me back. He promptly called back within 2 minutes. We had some brief discussions over the phone in regards to my issues and about his company Hydra. Pat was great on the phone and he scheduled an appointment for later that same week. Pat was right on time for our meeting and greeted my son warmly when he opened the door. Pat spent a good hour and a half reviewing exactly what he proposed to do. He was very enthusiastic about his company and you could tell he sincerely cared about his job and was excited about the work. I had met with 2 other companies besides Hydra and they all spent maybe a half hour with me and just threw down a number for the estimate. Pat was very, very low pressure. He walked through my basement and pointed out all of the areas in detail that needed attention. Pat took me through detailed pictures and information and explained the process very well. After taking many measurements he left with a hand shake and told me he would work on an estimate and fax or email it to me the next day. He did exactly as he said, I had the estimate the very next day. Not only did he spend a great deal of time showing me every detail of the project, but his price was well below the other quotes I had received. My wife and I discussed the quote and information and decided to move forward. Pat was able to get us scheduled within the next week. The project went great. Pat and his crew showed up first thing in the morning and introduced them to me and they got started. The job took 3 days and they cleaned up everyday after they were done. I was able to review the work they had done at the end of each day and Pat would call everyday to see if I had any questions. I was awesome to watch the process. They completed the project in 3 days and cleaned up like they had never been there. Pat did one final review of the project and was not satisfied about one section of the work that had been done. He had his team come back and redo a section of the interior drainage that had a slightly raised section. Not only did he want me to be satisfied with the work, but he wanted to be satisfied as well. I would (and have) recommend Hydra and Pat Kirby to anyone needing basement waterproofing. The experience was fantastic and I would use them again (even though I won't need to). My basement stayed perfectly dry throughout the rainy spring and my sump pump has been singing along nicely. Pat has called back numerous times to follow up with me to be sure everything was working as expected. If you need basement waterproofing or foundation support, call Hydra, you will be well taken care of.

We have a curved poured wall in the basement that had a crack in the concrete which flooded when it rained. I called 3 concrete companies, all listed with Angie's List, all with A reports, and left messages with each. One called back that day and, after I described the problem, said they didn't do that kind of work because of the curved wall. Pat Kirby of Hydra LLC returned my call that day and made an appointment the next Monday to estimate the repair. The third company called back two days later, too late for us. Pat arrived on time, examined the problem and explained to us what needed to be done. He and his crew arrived to make the repair just when they said they would. And then they repaired it. Throughout the entire process, Pat explained everything thoroughly (including the possibility of unforeseen glitches) and answered every question we had. Even I understood what he was saying. He was straightforward, honest and patient. He stuck to the estimate. His crew was considerate (even of the already-abused carpet) and didn't even write in the wet concrete -- how did they resist that? We don't have any more cracks in the concrete, but if we did, we'd call Pat. My true happiness came that night: we received .65" of rain, and THE BASEMENT REMAINED DRY! Thank you, Pat and Crew!
Description of Work: Pat and his crew repaired a crack in the basement in a curved poured wall. They also installed a shield so that water entering the outside wall would drain to the sump pump. Finally, they installed a backup sump pump.

Excellent....arrived on time and worked continuously untill job was complete. Patrick followed up the next day to make sure we were satisfied and if we had any questions. About 1 month later we did have a question and Patrick was very quick to answer some of the questions. He even wanted to come out to check that what we were seeing was normal....and it was. He was always very professional and honest!

My experience with Pat was very positive. He responded to my phone calls and provided on site estimates and opinions on houses that I was considering purchasing. One other company provided information over the telephone and another refused to talk to me because I did not own the property. Overall, Pat provided excellent service and if I eventually need basement repairs, he would be the first person I would call.
Description of Work: Pat provided an estimate to repair a basement leakage problem on a house I was in contract to purchase. When the deal fell through, I asked Pat to inspect another house I was considering purchasing. Pat inspected the house, found no significant problems with the basement and refused to accept payment for his services.

When Pat's crew came in, they put down plastic on the carpeted stairs and carpeted family room. They came on time and completed the work on time. They cleaned up and Pat followed up, making sure we knew how everything worked. They covered all of the electrical equipment and other belongings in the basement while they worked. The crew was very friendly and professional.
Description of Work: We had several estimates from well-advertised companies, but decided on Hydra for several reasons. When I checked Angie's List for companies, I found Hydra had done a job for another client just like we wanted. Hydra installed "Vapor Brite" Encapsulation System in our crawl space, installed a battery back up sump pump, checked all downspout lines, cleared all debris from crawl space, and installed a waterproofing system along 2 walls of the basement where there had been a water problem at sometime. The well-known company was going to charge us more to just do the encapsulating of the crawl space and never even noticed the problem wall.

Great overall experience. Two days ago I noticed a malfunction indicator on the monitor to my back up sump pump. Based on the indicator I got the impression that the battery backup was active and that the main pump may have malfunctioned. Pat was able to have Rich come over and look at it yesterday, and he found that it was actually the battery backup pump that was bad and the primary pump was fine. Earlier today, Rich and Ernesto came and replaced my battery backup at no charge to me. Little did I know that the battery backup was likely running the entire time since it was last activated (during our last power outage which was a while ago), since I had never pushed the reset button on the battery backup to stop the pump's functioning. Despite this Pat and Ernesto replaced my battery backup at no charge to me.

Just as expected, better in fact. Hydra was able to change the sump pump location to better suit our future needs in the finished portion of our basement. Instead of putting it near a basement fireplace (not desirable) they were able to put in a different corner where we already have the water meter that needs to be framed around. Thanks Rich!!
Description of Work: Our house was built in 1952 and didn't have a sump pump. Hydra installed a new sump pump with battery backup as well as 44 feet of perimeter drain. They connected the sump to our existing drain to the street. They came when they said and finished in 2 days as planned. They cleaned up fairly well, though with this type of work a bit of vacuuming and dusting should be expected after they're done and gone.

The owner came over and explained their product very thouroughly. I was pleased with him because he didn't use any high pressure sales tactics that we had experienced with some other companies. My husband had done some research and liked the product that was explained to us, so we went with Hydra. Surprisingly, as high as they are rated on Angie's List, their estimate was thousands of dollars less then any of their competitors estimates that we recieved. The crew was courteous, respectful, and they cleaned up well after themselves. To be honest, they left it cleaner than when they started. It was a good experience. The only issue we did have was that they were going through a staff "shack up", which became ackward and uncomfortable considering the guy was on our job, and we found ourselves in the middle. I do believe that the staffing issue could of been handled better, without us having to be involved. Besides that, we are very satisfied with their attentiveness, product, and service. I'd definately use them again.

Response from Hydra Basement Waterproofing
WE HAD A CLOSELY SUPERVISED TRAINEE ON SITE WHOM WE SOON REALIZED WAS NOT UP TO OUR STANDARDS. HE WAS ATTEMPTING TO SOLICIT DRYWALL WORK FROM MY CUSTOMER, WHICH I DID NOT BELIEVE HE WAS CAPABLE OF PERFORMING. I INFORMED MY CUSTOMER OF HIS TERMINATION, HOPING THAT IT MIGHT DISSUADE THEM FROM A FUTURE RELATIONSHIP. WE DO NOT INSTALL DRYWALL, SO MY MOTIVES WERE TO PROTECT MY CUSTOMER AND MY COMPANY'S REPUTATION. IN RETROSPECT I WOULD HAVE HANDLED IT DIFFERENTLY AND I CAN UNDERSTAND MY CUSTOMER'S DISMAY AT BEING INVOLVED IN COMPANY POLITICS. I'VE LEARNED SOMETHING AND I HAVE SINCE EXPLAINED THE SITUATION MORE FULLY TO MY CUSTOMER.

Hydra was great. This was a mess of a job. So many pieces tied together (floor removal, plumbing replacement, perimeter drain, sump installation, downspout line burial). Before they even started the job, they came out to tar and bisquine a small section of the outside wall where I was having an excavation next to the house to replace the exterior portion of the main sewer line. Charged me basically only for materials for that waterproofing. Pat was helpful from the beginning, listened to all of my questions, input and concerns. And I have lots. I'm a real researcher. The crew was great, kept well coordinated with me and with Pat. Their foreman left to pursue other work, I think, but the new crew did some of the wrap up work and seemed great, too. They really did a fantastic job and were honest, hard-working and very reasonably priced. I can't believe I'd say that about a $10,000 job, but the estimate for the waterproofing alone from another company was more than that (did not include the floor removal and concrete work). I researched interior drain products and liked what they were using. They also use a great sump pump (the battery back up is worth it, Pat basically passes it on for cost from what I can tell). I have recommended Hydra to my parents and a friend. I have had no water seepage into the basement since their work.
Description of Work: Removed concrete floor in half of basement (very thin, damaged concrete in very old basement) in preparation for laying new floor after waterproofing work was done. Excavated to necessary depth to install drainage gravel, vapor barrier below new concrete pour. Coordinated with plumber who installed new main drain and basement bathroom plumbing prior to concrete pour. Also removed concrete along perimeter of entire basement. Installed perimeter drain system along all walls. In the half with the entire floor removed, installed drainage gravel and vapor barrier. Brought in concrete pump truck (subcontractor) and Hydra's guys laid the new floor. Installed sump pump with battery back up. Buried downspout line and took it out to curb, cut hooked sump to this line. Installed 2 support posts, removed and reinstalled stairs to facilitate plumbing and concrete work.

They did an awesome job. The wall was bowing, and Hydra put in four braces to secure the wall. In addition, they added some touch-ups, and added hydraulic cement to areas that were not leaking, but that were of concern to the buyer. The new buyers were questioning everything with every contractor we had, but Hydra came out immediately. They did a walk-through to appease the buyer and then came out the next day to do more work. He was able to make the buyer, who is virtually unable to be pleased, feel content with their work. I was very happy with them. Pat did an excellent job, and was very responsive. They listened to what we needed, and provided the precise solution to fit the bill.

It went excellently. I was not sure what to expect, but Pat Kirby was clear, professional, and highly knowledgeable about the problem. He proposed that two sump pumps be installed in the crawl, along with waterproofing (drainage tiles and weep holes), and vapor brite heavy plastic barrier installed on floor and up the walls of the crawl. Water is now rerouted to the end of my backyard via installation of underground drainage pipes, connecting downspouts from front and back of house very neatly and efficiently. The crew were skilled, thorough, neat, professional; the project took about five days, start to finish. I'm delighted.

Their approach to solving our water problem in our basement was to go from the outside in. He said that there is no quick fix for this, we have to approach it in steps. His approach seemed more thoughtful or reasonable than a quick fix. He never went forward with giving me an actual estimate, he just told me that we needed to begin with some initial steps that needed to be taken, and then to give him a call back when we were where we needed to be. He was really out here to help us, not just to get our money.

Ovwerall, the project went very well.
Description of Work: Our house is a 4-level split. We needed an inside system for our basement, and an outside system for the 1/2 below grade area. Pat and his Foreman prepared a plan and executed it just as promised. They installed two separate sumps, all needed excavation, piping (to the street), backfill and grading after settlement of the backfilled area outside. They even painted our basement walls with a sealing coating. Their price for everything was about the same as another quote for just the inside basement work.
