Home Remedies is now my go-to choice for having work done on my home. They did some unrelated repair work for me earlier this year, and now have finished a second job for me. Doug and Scott are friendly, and I know I'm getting good work done for a better price than I would get elsewhere. They are quick to respond to any concerns that I might have, and they honor their word. I am so happy with their work that they will be replacing a ceramic tile floor in two rooms for me before the end of the year.
Description of Work: Doug fixed water damage to ceiling below where upstairs toilet had leaked through. Also put new wood in well house to make weathertight (old wood was rotting).

Doug arrived exactly when he said he would each time he came to do some work. He was friendly, did fine work, and cleaned up after himself perfectly. We will not hesitate to call him in for any "home remedy" that we may need in the future.
Description of Work: He did several drywall jobs around the house, one of them involving drywalling over a hole in a ceiling and then painting.

Doug responded quickly to my phone call and made an appointment to come look at the job several days later. He is so friendly and accommodating (and was nice to the cat) and scheduled a roofer with whom he works to come start the job several days after that initial meeting. The roofers were so conscientious and helped move furniture that was in the way of their work space. Afterwards they thoroughly cleaned up after themselves. The roof matches so perfectly, that I can't even tell there were ever two sky lights in the roof. This completely exceded my expectations. I feel so at ease with Home Remedies that I am breathing a sign of relief that I have finally found someone I can call for all kinds of jobs from cleaning gutters to electrical work to installing cabinet handles.
Description of Work: They removed deteriorating sky lights and roofed over the openings. This is phase one of a two part process. The next step will be to install dry wall inside over the openings and paint.
Service was great. Quality of work was excellent as was price for work. Found a way to save us money by not having to buy new doors, quick, efficient, friendly and punctual. Scheduled to do another job. Recommended.
Description of Work: Multiple small projects. Reaching closet doors, put in New track in another closet door, installed faucet and door knobs, new light fixture, etc.

Home Remedies is extremely busy-first and foremost. Doug was punctual with initial meeting to give estimate. I received the estimate about 10 days later. I had to nudge Doug as I do all busy contractors due to his work. He gave me an absolute date of when to receive the estimate. After receiving it, I called Doug and asked for a timeline. The timeline did fit with my schedule. Once Doug and his associate showed, the work began. It helped that both did a site walkthrough the day before to take inventory of what was needed and other common materials were required. I added a few small details along the way which may have extended their work, but it was worth it to me. The work is professional. Doug is straighforward and will tell you if he can or can not do what you want improved. He did experience an unfortunate setback being in hospital which did delay the start date at my house, but I was not uptight about it. I want work performed right the first time even if it means I have to wait a few more days.I have already called Doug and told him I have another worklist for him to do and will call him over once I get it finalized. Home Remedies is a business whom I can trust which speaks volumes considering the number of contractors out there.
Description of Work: Removed and installed shower surround. Installed baseboard in bath. Installed light fixture over sink. Replaced all bathroom fixtures in shower and sink. Skim coated one bathroom wall. Built frame around existing fireplace, to beautify the living room. Hung drywall over frame and the entire wall. Installed baseboard in living room. Installed drywall in kitchen, over existing kitchen ceiling. Encased a vent and beautified it with drywall. Skim coated one kitchen wall. Installed light fixture in kitchen.

Saved text communications for accurate information and quotes from time working with Home Remedies. Recommended by a realtor. Met with them and their price seemed reasonable and they seemed like reasonable people. Hired for a Kitchen remodel with a tight timeframe due to tenants moving in they assured would happen on time. There was a bit of a delay due to counter top manufacture - understandable but, there were some other delays due to one partner having some medical issues - he did not communicate this and the work stalled, partner didn't step in. Dates/items/communications highlighted below - Doug's responses in CAPS: July 1 - sent Doug picture of cabinet hardware we wanted along with part # etc - not what we got July 6 - told Doug we wanted white grout - got grey July 7 - were told by Doug he would get serial numbers from appliance prior to installation (his recommendation) - didn't get July 8 - went to check on project - subway tiles were at about a 20 - 30 degree angle - informed Doug they would need to be redone July 9 - mentioned to Doug tenants said project not finished... inquired about when to expect completion. Had spoken to them on the 6th and they had said it would be done in a couple more days (8th) July 10 - first time informed by Doug about medical issues asked for understanding. Wished him a speedy recovery and asked if his partner could help out and at this point we were going to have to reimburse some rent to the new tenant - which we did $400 July 10 - 'I'VE REALLY HAD IT WITH YOU....IF YOU WANT TO FINDS SOMEONE ELSE THATS FINE BUT YOU KNOW I REALLY DON'T NEED THIS CRAP RIGHT NOW July 10 - again wished Doug a speedy recovery and inquired if partner could assist - told Doug he should focus on feeling better - told him I would contact his partner which I did and didn't hear back July 13 - DONE BY TUESDAY (next day) July 15 - informed complete by Home Remedies July 15 - we inspect and inform we will be sending $. Invoice received - NO PAYMENT TERMS ON IT July 18 - Home Remedies inquire if check was sent July 20 - informed Home Remedies check on its way via E- Banking - (had discussed in person as well and mentioned it usually takes 5 - 7 days) July 21 - THIS IS A 5 DAY DEMAND OF PAYMENT - LEGAL ACTION WILL BE THE RECOURSE. DO NOT CALL US FOR ANY FURTHER WORK We are responsible business people and landlords. Have been for 30 years. We take pride in doing the right thing by our tenants and our service providers. Doug was rude and unprofessional as demonstrated in the email chain outlined above. Work was satisfactory once complete - professionalism, communication lacking to an extreme degree. Will not use again,

Doug is very knowledgeable and professional. I contacted him initially to get an estimate on the water damage repairs in my pantry area, and ended up having him repair that area as well as take care of some damaged drywall in my living room caused by settling. He is pretty much a one-man operation though he does have a second helper who also assisted in doing the living room repairs. The repairs in both areas of my home turned out beautifully, and I will not hesitate to contact him again for additional maintenance or repair work.
Description of Work: Repaired drywall damage from settling; also repaired drywall in pantry which was damaged by water.

I was impressed with Scott when he first came out to look at the job and give me an estimate. He seemed very knowledgeable. When I got the estimate several weeks later it was almost $10,000 less than an estimate from another company. Due to the reviews I had already read about this company on Angie's List and the estimate being within my budget , I felt very comfortable hiring Scott. He showed up on time and ready to work from day 1. Scott was very mindful that I worked from home and could not be disturbed. Also I really appreciated his assistance in doing the shopping for the paint, ceiling fan, and bathroom facet. That saved me a lot of time. Scott did such a beautiful job with the room that I plan to convert it from a storage room to a bedroom. I feel like I found a great handyman and will not hesitate to call Scott when I need more work done in the future.
Description of Work: Insulated and dry walled my bonus/storage room and added a heating/cooling vent into the room. Also painted the room and added trim and closet doors. A ceiling fan and second light were also added to the room. Scott did additional small jobs like replaced a leaking bathroom facet and broken door stopper.
Doug and Scott were very responsive and professional right from the start. I had been having a very hard time finding a contractor who would talk to me let alone give me an estimate on fixing up my rental property. Doug answered right away and went out to the house within 24 hours. Of the 4 estimates I was finally able to get, Home Remedies was the most reasonable. Doug and Scott went to work right away and got the whole project finished up quickly. Trustworthy, reasonable, good guys all around. I would absolutely hire them again for any future home repairs.

If you need an outstanding handyman/remodeling expert for your home, look no further. I'm serious. I've hired Doug from Home Remedies several times over the past few years, and I plan to keep using him whenever I have a home project. He does exceptional work that's priced very competitively, and he has a really friendly personality which makes him a joy to work with. We recently had him repaint the entire interior of our home (including trim) and it looks amazing. He completed the job on time and very thoroughly. We also had him trim some trees in our back yard and handle a number of miscellaneous handyman tasks. He pretty much knows how to do everything. It's a huge relief to have a handyman that you can always trust. I'm really grateful to have found him.

Doug and Scott were responsive, honest, professional and completed the work within our budget. Home Remedies delivered more than what was quoted and was receptive to changes made along the way. Small bath made it difficult for them to maneuver and do a perfect job on the shower, but we're satisfied. Referrals were made for work beyond their expertise (i.e. glass insert for shower, carpet). THANKS!
Description of Work: Renovated German Village Apartment: Replaced and/or skim-coated 9+ ft. drywall/plaster ceiling & walls; painted throughout; installed vinyl & ceramic flooring; built ceramic shower and assisted glass company with installation; installed vanity, toilet & plumbing; removed & hauled away carpet; replaced three ceiling fixtures.

As our kids have gotten older the more they have been advocating to have their own space. We contacted Home Remedies after looking at a basement remodeling job they did for our neighbors (beautiful!). We decided to have our attic finished to include a bedroom, office and as much storage as possible as long as it would fit within our budget. Scott and Doug came out and provided us with ideas to maximize the use of the space. My other initial concern was my over protective dog and how she would respond to strangers in the house. After the initial "interview" Scott (and Doug) were accepted. The heating and cooling guys were not as well liked and Scott made every effort to keep the peace since I work from home and needed as much quiet as possible. The project took about a month to complete. Scott was so kind and a pleasure to work with and have around my kids. He quickly became one of the family and someone who I trust. Scott was also very conscientious of our budget and would advise of ways to reduce costs when he could. He also helped advise how best to install the furnace so it didn't detract from the over all storage space. I didn't do any research on this and was happy to have his input. We went over our budget by $4000 (furnace/ ac unit) but am so happy with our new space! We will definitely have Scott come back to do our bathroom remodel! I hope you like Scott and Doug as much as we do.
Description of Work: We had Scott finish our attic to include a bedroom and an office but keep as much storage as we could.
In a word: fantastic. I paid 16k in labor to Home Remedies, purchased 5k in materials, and have probably added 50k to the value of my home. I obtained estimates from other contractors for the same project who put the cost at 40-50k. I highly recommend this company. They are honest, and know what they are doing. I am also willing share pictures of the basement if anyone is interested.
Description of Work: Renovated my basement. In so doing, they created a bathroom with a ceramic tile shower, ceramic tile floor, extensive drywall, lighting, electrical outlets, a closet, installed a vanity, and installed a toilet. They also created a laundry area in the basement with another ceramic tile floor, drywall, lighting, electrical outlets, drop ceiling, and storage area. Furthermore, they renovated what was a basement kitchen into a living space. In so doing, they closed off plumbing, installed drywall, closed unused electrical lines, and installed new electrical outlets.
I contacted Scott earlier this summer after a negative experience with another contractor. We wanted to get a quote on re-finishing our basement. He immediately returned my call and said they were booking several months out, but he would still come estimate the job if I was interested. I said yes, and he came out the next day to provide a quote. He was very professional while looking at the basement and discussed multiple options with me. We decided we would do all the demo work, and he would do the rest. His quote came in at what I believe to be a reasonable rate for services provided. There were a few delays in getting the work started, but Scott was in constant communication with me letting me know when he could start the job. We did a final walkthrough before work began and made a few changes to our original plan-Scott was clear about what things would add cost to our estimate and by how much, which I appreciated. When work began, Scott was timely and hard working. I felt very comfortable with him in my home and he was always very pleasant. Every day I came home, there was notable progress that had been made and he had picked up after himself in our basement. Scott completed the following work in our basement: -Built (and re-built after I changed my mind about a location) new walls -Ran new electric for and installed recessed lighting and additional outlets -Plumbed for our washer and a utility sink -Installed dryer vent hookups and electric for dryer -Installed new door for a secondary area of the basement -Drywalled the ceiling Overall, I would say my experience with Home Remedies was very positive, and I would use them in the future. While there were a few very small hiccups, Scott was quick to respond and remediate any questions or potential issues. I would recommend and plan on using Home Remedies again in the future.
Description of Work: Framed and drywalled new walls in basement, installed doors, installed new recessed lighting and new outlets, plumbing for washer and utility sink, dryer hookup and electric.
It went well, took less than two days, (while I was at work), and I came home the second night to a finished product. They were neat and courteous. I didn't review right away because I wanted to make sure the work held up and no there have been no additional signs of water damage.
Description of Work: Removed rotted wood from side wall and under flooring around sliding door, (which required a portion of tiling to be pulled up), and fixed/waterproofed/rebuilt footing.

We live in a house that's about 130 years old and the areas that were remodeled by Home Remedies (hereinafter HR) are part of an add-on above the kitchen and family rooms. Each room is approximately 11' X 13'. The rooms needed to be repainted, the carpet replaced, new lighting added and the storage area increased in one of the rooms. The rooms are directly under the "A" shaped roof so the ceilings came to a point in the center making it difficult to install any type of overhead lighting. Scott from HR, recommended that we drop that part of the ceiling by about 8", so instead of having it come to a sharp point, have a flat surface from which track lights could be installed. Scott also recommended taking out a small closet in one of the rooms to give the room more open space. One of the rooms had finished storage space behind the walls with sliding doors but the other room didn't and we wanted to finish the storage area behind the walls in that room. In the room with the unfinished storage, there was about 4' of usuable storage space behind the walls on either side of the room. The doors pulled out into the office and opening them was difficult because anything in way had to be moved to gain access. Also there was plywood on only a small section of the floor, all the insulation was exposed and there was no lighting. Scott removed those doors, widened the door space and put in custom made sliding doors. He also covered the all of the floor and back wall with plywood to cover the insalation making all the space behind the wall usable. He also suggested that lighting inside the storage area be added. The finished areas now have wooden floors, overhead track light with dimmer switches and fresh paint. In the one office the storage space runs the entire length of the room rather than just a few feet. Also because we had some extra wood floor left over Scott was able to finish one of the storage areas with the hardwood. Completing this project required carpentry, electrical work, painting and hardwood floor installation. Scott did a wonderful job and it's amazing he is able to perform all of these tasks with such great craftsmanship. Although it took a bit longer than we anticipated, the extra time and effort were well worth it for the results.
Description of Work: Home Remedies remodeled our home offices.
The project with Home Remedies went very well overall. They were very organized and were knowledgeable about the projects at hand. They communicated issues that would arise and suggested solutions in a timely manner. They were upfront about any changes regarding the estimated price. Home Remedies employs contractors that you can trust and will deliver quality work. I would recommend Home Remedies to anyone in need of a general contractor.
Description of Work: Various plumbing and electrical updates. Drywall framing and repair. Updated Kitchen cabinets and installed ceramic tile flooring. Exterior painting on third story gable.

There is an old saying with respect to having work done on your house: When having work done, you want 3 things: good quality, a good price, and done timely. But you are only going to get to pick 2 of those 3 - you almost never get all 3. In this case, the price was good, the work was good, but the timing was a real challenge. I contacted Home Remedies in late April. Doug met me at my house, looked over the job, and on May 8, I received a quote for the job. There was an error in the quote (it listed a third ceiling being replaced), but once that was cleared up, on May 12 I asked when they could start and how long the job would take. I didn't hear back, so on May 21st I asked what the status was. On May 22, I was told they could start the first week of July. This was a bit of a shock, as there had been no discussion that they were 6 weeks out, but I accepted the bid and waited for the work to start. On June 26th I contacted Home Remedies to confirm I was on the schedule for the next week. On the 27th I was emailed that they were running 2 and 1/2 to 3 weeks behind and that they were sorry. While I considered getting new quotes, getting new quotes and a new contractor to start in 3 weeks seemed unlikely. I asked that they commit to starting by July 24 (3 and 1/2 weeks late) and it turned out they underestimated their schedule again. The earliest they could now start was August 11. Given the hassle of getting new bids I agreed to the August 11 start date (5+ weeks beyond the first date). Work did begin on August 11, and while Tom said the job would take 10 days or so, after 7 days his schedule changed and he could only work on my job 1/2 days. Doug finished the job on Sept. 4 (25 days). At the end of the job, Doug said he had underbid the job and that I got a good deal. I don't know if he underbid it, and I don't think he delayed my job because of any under-bidding (when he finished the job he explained 2 of his regular crew quit and it damaged his whole project schedule). I respect that sometimes things happen, though communication could have been better. Despite the hassle, I do feel I got good work at a good price, even if it did delay my project (electric, paint, etc.) by 2 months.
Description of Work: Hung new drywall in 1 room and 2 stairways, tore out damaged drywall on 2 small ceilings and hung new.

Scott was awesome! First his professionalism made the job he was doing clear. Second the designing process was great, he gives ideas and opinions that were extremely helpful for the final product. Tile work is excellent! Also pricing was very fair and I felt that keeping in budget was not only my priority but also his. Not to mention very trust worthy and great with dogs. Will definitely use him in the future and already have plans to. Enjoyed my new bathroom forgot to write a review until now! Highly recommended.
