We are very happy with the work that Greene Solutions has done. To begin with, the energy audit they completed was thorough and extremely informative. Thomas came out and went through all the areas of our home doing a visual inspection and then he performed a "blower door test" to see how much air was moving in and out of our home so that he could give us recommendations for how to improve the efficiency of our home. His report included estimates for some of his suggestions, as well as DIY suggestions for lowering our energy bill. We did have Greene Solutions come out to do a few things on our home. Their workers were punctual, friendly and thorough. They were gracious enough to take before and after pictures of our attic areas so that we could see exactly what was done. They came across an area of our home that needed extra attention, and they addressed the problem that day. They were professional and very neat as they worked throughout our home. It was obvious that every person on their crew takes pride in the work that they do. If you are looking to improve the efficiency of your home and you are looking for an honest company, look no further.
Description of Work: Greene Solutions performed an energy audit on our home. They then came out to seal our duct work using Aeroseal and they insulated the attic of our home.

Aeroseal is a big process-- an all day event. We had a trouble room in our home that did not heat and cool well. The aeroseal helped to increase the airflow into that room as well as all of the others. We will also have much better air quality. We didn't even realize how much air we were losing until we saw the computer analysis. Neat experience and we are looking forward to the comfort benefits as well as reduced energy bills!
Description of Work: Aeroseal, added proper ventilation from exhaust fan through attic and roof, corrected a ventilation issue in attic.

Thomas, Greene Solutions, came out and measure the area and listened to our needs. He showed us what Greene soultions could do for us and how much it would cost. What a pleasure it is dealing with a friendly young man, that listened to our needs. Thomas was very personable. The price he quoted was fair and we signed the contract for them to do the work, on a certain day. The day we agreed on came and 3 nice, polite and hard working young men showed up on time. After they introduced themselves they went right to work. This team of workers worked without taking breaks and it was a really dirty job. They excelled beyond our expectations and the job was done and done right. I never heard any complaints from the workers, they were professional at all times. When the job was completed the grounds and all around was clean and the finish product looked great. I love working with company, that make you look around your house seeking, another job you can hire them for. Professionalism is the word that best desires Greene S.oultions
Description of Work: 4 season room sits on a deck, the fiberglass insulation is falling, cold air is coming in under deck, and it is a mess on the ground from falling insulation. The company was going to clean out the old batted fiberglass insulation and remove it, foam the back of the house wall under the 4 season room, put 3" of foam between the joists (sealing the vent and furance ductwork), and line the ground with a 12mm anti - microbial vapor blanket underbtheb4 season room.

After two months of high electric bills, I wanted to have an energy audit performed on my house. I was referred to Greene Solutions by a coworker. I called and set up an appointment with Thomas. The energy audit was well worth it. First of all, AEP has an energy audit rebate which makes your personal cost very low (I have all electric heat). Secondly, Greene Solutions is one of the accredited companies who has the expertise to do this work. It also helps that Greene Solutions does all of the rebate paperwork for you, so you don't have to pay full price up front and then get reimbursed later. They turn in the forms and wait for the rest of the money on their time. Anyway, Thomas evaluated our home in fine detail. He used thermal imaging to show us the heat loss problem areas in every part of every room. He performed the blower door test and showed us problem areas for air entry/loss. He also pointed out how we could improve our home ourselves with specific tips in addition to explaining how Greene Solutions can make improvements for us if we are not inclined to tackle home projects. He even left us with energy efficient light bulbs as part of the audit. Thomas did not rush us through the process and answered all my questions. It was also apparent that he was not trying to "upsale" us on any services. He simply wanted to explain how we could improve the energy efficiency of our home. He even gave me a referral for a company that does HVAC work at my request. He recommended Wolfe and Sons (they have worked with them on projects that include installation of HVAC systems) and that was a great choice for me (see my review for Wolfe and Sons). Needless to say, we were impressed and contracted Greene Solutions to perform work that we didn't want to undertake ourselves. Back in March, we scheduled the appointment for April 10th at 9:00 AM. Thomas made sure that my bathroom fan was properly vented out of my roof by contracting the work to Capital City Daylighting prior to the insulation work as part of the job (see my review of them for that excellent work performed). Tyler, Eric, Pat, and Owen of Greene Solutions showed up at 9:00 AM on the10th to blow insulation into my attic and improve my soffit vents to allow the 17" of insulation my house now has. They explained what work they would be doing today and even showed me how they prepared the soffit vents prior to the insulation addition before they began. They were very professional and friendly. They encouraged me to see the progress as they worked to make sure I was happy with how it was done. Their attention to detail was excellent. For example, they had put large rulers along many of the support beams to show that they achieved the agreed upon level of insulation. I know that it is simply standard procedure for them, but it really provides confidence to the customer to see the insulation level along the various parts of the attic as they proceed. They sealed my can lights prior to starting work. They built a "dam" along the entry door so no insulation would fall if the door was opened. They made sure that the insulation was blown over the demarcation line of the family room and garage to ensure that the thermal barrier was sound at the wall line. I can tell you that I was very impressed. I wish I had the forethought to have taken before and after photos to upload. They even offered to rework my attic entry door at no charge (b/c it was poorly put together from stray boards when it was first put in place and it didn't fit well because the original framing had been damaged along two of the four edges). They cut me a new entry door and even framed it in place using wood I had. They then attached a thick pad of insulation to the top side of the door and sealed the bottom edges of the door with a foam tape to seal it against the frame they built for it. The attic looks great and the door looks so much better than the original one. Greene Solutions has made a believer out of me. You should give them a call if you have any questions about how to make your home more energy efficient or want to get work done to improve the energy efficiency of your home.

Great. It's an all-day process, but I believe that the work that they did will reduce significantly my electric bill (I have an all-electric home). Initial results from the sealing of my duct work show a 93 percent reduction in leakage. It will be interesting to see what impact this work has on my electric bill this summer.

This job was commissioned after a successful unfinished attic insulation project at my daughters home. Tom Greene the son came over and conducted an energy audit to reveal potential cost savings on this home built in 1989. The attic had builders grade cellulose originally installed with uneven blown in fiberglass on top done approx. 6 years ago by another company. The Greene Solutions team came in and added more blown in fiberglass to make a R-60 barrier. They fixed some and installed new soffit vent baffles. Added fiberglass batting along the top of an interior wall that was missed when the house was built. They upgraded and re routed the vent fan duct work as well. They replaced the door leading to the attic with new wood and insulation. We had 4 light cans upgraded in the bathrooms to LED bulbs. They are brighter now and more energy efficient. The crawl space under the family room was made over as well. The 25 year old plastic vapor barrier was removed and upgraded. Fiberglass insulation on the walls was replaced with spray foam and the radon system was re sealed. There was an unused outdoor vent near the kitchen that was never finished and let cold air into the house. This was confirmed with a specialized video camera system and sealed with spray foam as well. The whole job took 4 men, (Tom Greene included) the better part of one day from start to finish. Very satisfied.
Description of Work: Complete crawl space makeover, added additional fiberglass insulation to attic area, installed soffit vent baffles, upgraded vent fan duct work, installed LED lighting, replaced original attic door and sealed unused outdoor kitchen vent.

Professional, and very knowledgeable team. Affordable Quick turnaround from time of quote to the actual install.... Few weeks tops. Install only took only one day. Install team constantly checked in with me throughout the install to make sure I understood what they were doing & to address any of my questions/concerns. I immediately noticed temperature difference in the house during day of the install. In weeks following the install, I have noticed a significant difference in house temperature. I look forward to seeing a reduction in gas and electric costs in months to come.

In the midst of installing a new heat pump and air handler [electric furnace], we were impressed in the test to qualify for an AEP rebate, by reducing the amount of air leaking into/through the basement into the living space above. The provider, cooperating with AEP, recommended the treatment with the specific materials and, in fact, Greene Solutions as a quality provider of the service. It went very well. Greene Solutions work crew were careful and polite about moving their equipment through living space into the basement. They did a good job of clearing out items stored in the crawls, cooperating with any requests I made. Clearly, they know their stuff in doing the spraying/coating job well, sealing every crack and crevice paying attention to detail like including around the heat ducts going into the living areas. Because of the cost, we had opted not to include coating the walls of the larger crawl space. When the crew got to that area, they found that the old insulation was not; that is it had deteriorated so that it was not insulating. At that point, Mr. Greene showed us the completed smaller crawl and offered a reduced price for us, given that the crew were on-site. We agreed about the need, and the price and the crew proceeded to complete that part of the job. In the midst of that operation, they found a small water pipe leak and helped with a temporary measure until we can get a plumber on the scene. They competed the 'blower-door' test to find that the negative factor of air-flow leakage had decreased by 16% from the initial reading! Mr. Greene and the other crew are very careful and professional, paying attention to every detail and checking to assure that we were satisfied. We anticipate that the sealing of the crawl spaces will improve the comfort of the two rooms above them which have always been drafty and colder than other rooms.
Description of Work: Sprayed two-part closed cell foam into the exterior joist 'rimjoists' of the unfinished basement, covered the crawl space floors with heavy plastic liner and sealed the edges, and sprayed the crawl space walls with the foam.

He and "his boys" cleaned everything out, closed up and insulated the top, bottom and sides. He also wrapped all pipes and air ducts with insulation. They had everything done within one day. We now feel that all rooms above the insulated area are much more comfortable. It was money well spent. Mr. Greene was a joy to have around from beginning to end.
Description of Work: I had found Greene Solutions from the monthly Angie's List publication. Mr. Thomas Greene was very helpful with insulating suggestions for the job. The job was porch insulation. Our crawlspace is an open space under an enclosed porch. It was totally uninsulated and practically open for critters to use.

The entire crew from Greene Solutions was courteous, efficient, and professional. After reviewing the work that was to be done and the total cost, they quickly went to work. They completed the air sealing and insulation installation in just a few hours, and they did a thorough job of cleaning up afterwards. Thomas, the president of Greene Solutions, even made a special trip out to my home when I made a last-minute decision to install LED retrofits. We can already see a big improvement in how warm our home is. We would definitely recommend Greene Solutions to friends and family!

They were running a little late because of a mishap with their trailer but they called and let me know which was a plus. All of the guys were very courteous and worked quickly and efficiently. The only issue I had was that the estimate I got didn't include the rim joists in the other half of my duplex which resulted in extra cost I had not planned on. So I guess make sure you know what the estimate includes. But on the brighter side they had enough foam with them to do the extra work therefore I didn't have to schedule another day. Thomas Greene was adamant about smelling gas in my basement so he brought in his gas detector and sure enough there was a slight leak in the furnace. He called a plumber he had used and helped me to set up an appointment to take care of it. I would say he went above & beyond to make sure I was safe. Thanks again to Thomas & the crew for doing a great job!

Thomas Greene, the president of Greene Solutions, came to my house to perform their "diagnostic" energy audit. He arrived promptly at his scheduled time, and he was courteous, professional, and helpful throughout the assessment. The audit consisted of a visual inspection of my entire home followed by several tests (the "blower door" test, thermal scanning, etc.) to determine the primary sources of heat loss. He discovered that I had insufficient insulation and that I am losing significant heat through leaky duct connections. He provided a list of 4-5 recommendations (ranging from DIY to professional installation) to maximize my energy efficiency. He provided a quote for new insulation and air sealing that was competitive with a quote we had previously received from Home Depot (and the quote from HD did not even include the air sealing). My wife and I booked them to make the necessary changes, and we are looking forward to having a warmer winter this year!

On AEP's recommendation I called Greene Solutions and made an appointment. Co-owner Thomas Greene conducted the inspection and recommended additional attic insulation. I asked about the back door on my sixty-year-old home, and he suggested weatherstripping rather than replacement of the entire door, which saved me money. The crew arrived on time and completed the insulation work in a few hours, sealing all duct work before adding the loose insulation. A contract worker, Craig Tuthill of Widow's Helper, weatherstripped and worked on my back door so that it would close properly. The whole process went very smoothly. Unfortunately immediately after the company left my home, I noticed that a hairline crack had been created in my living room ceiling, beginning at the crown molding over the fireplace and extending about six feet into the room. Thomas and I had gone through the home just before the insulation was added and had seen no cracks in that ceiling prior to the work. After noting the problem I called Greene Solutions, and they sent Craig Tuthill to repair the crack. After Craig's repair, my ceiling looks nearly like new. All construction work involves some degree of risk to an already-existing structure, and I was not surprised that the added weight of the insulation would create a hairline crack in an older plaster ceiling. Thankfully, Greene Solutions was quick to rectify the problem for me.

Our house was in turmoil when we were given Tom Greene's contact info from AEP. Our 20 year old house was out of control with high electric costs (averaging over $500 month). Tom and Rick Greene helped us understand some of the drivers behind this, and they were excellent service partners in getting us on a path to improvement. Using a smart electric meter, we were able to determine some key drivers to the high cost - namely over 50 can lights using high wattage Halogen bulbs, along with general poor HVAC performance and insulation. Our north facing rear of the home had numerous exposed foundation blocks that allow air to pass through the block, this in turn super cools the crawl space and makes the entire first floor cold all the time. Greene team was able to address this problem for us with specialized foam insulation - its unbelievable what a difference this makes. The Aeroseal system (for HVAC) is the complex process of sealing up all the HVAC ducts with a sealant mist throughout the entire system from the inside, reducing our "loss" of air flow from the blowers from like 500 square inches down to 50. The vents now blow air to the second story much easier, the house is better regulated, and the systems runs less. This was brilliant, and Tom's team was on top of everything along the way. We also had them replace our halogen light bulbs with the more modern efficient LED options, this was like a 80% reduction in energy usage for the 50 can lights. Greene team was extremely professional, knowledge-able, and I would recommend them to anyone !

Highly recommend anyone looking to analyze the way your home uses/loses energy to have an audit by Green Solutions. The owner himself came out on time to our home, very professional, unbelievably thorough and cost efficient audit was conducted that opened our eyes to some serious issues we have. State of the art equipment, engages you in the audit so not only do you see the evidence but feel it! If you have AEP and an all electric home call them to see if you qualify for the discounted audit. They gave us an estimate with NO pressure, I repeat NO pressure to sign on a dotted line that day like some companies. Looking forward to having them come out and correct our issues!

Our condo's insulation was not up to standard. We had 10" in the attic. The association hired Greene Solutions to add another 8". I was quite impressed with this installation. It was late August. The outside temperature was 92 degrees. They took their time to do a good job. They explained in detail the work that was being done and asked me several times if I wanted to examine their work. It was obvious to me that they were quality driven and wanted people to know it. During the installation Thomas explained several options to further improve energy efficiency. The one that grabbed my attention was sealing the ductwork. He took his time in his explanation and was very detailed. We even went into the basement to check for leakage. I was amazed how much cold air was leaking through the joints. On just about every joint I could feel cold air leaking. It was no wonder the basement was so much cooler than upstairs. On Greene Solutions' web site is a video of them on This Old House explaining how this Aeroseal technology would dramatically reduce leakage in the basement allowing more cool air to flow upstairs. I strongly suggest you watch this. So I decided to have the service done on the 24th. A sub company came out on the 23rd to clean our ducts. I was surprised at the amount of debris that came out, especially from the dryer. The washer and dryer are upstairs so I thought the duct shot straight out the wall. WRONG. The duct takes a 90 degree turn down, a 90 degree turn right for four feet, 90 degree up for 2 feet. then one more 90 degree bend extending 6 feet to exhaust. This exhaust is made to trap lint at every corner. Well Jessie did his work and the results were amazing to me. I had never seen so much lint at one time. I was very pleased. The following day the Greene Solution crew came. Rick had 2 associates with him. I turned on the ac to feel the volume of air coming from each register for a before and after pressure check. At this time all supply and return registers are sealed and the blocked. Air flow through the furnace was also blocked. The process of blowing polymer foam through the system began. We started at the supply side. The polymer blows through and seals all small holes. It's amazing to see the holes being patched. One 4" line was found that was opened at the end and went to nowhere. Started off with 309 CFM of leakage, equivalent to a 59 square inch hole. After finish we had 4 CFM of leakage equivalent to a 1 square inch. This is a 99% reduction in Duct Leakage. We had a corresponding reduction on the return side. We started out at 421CFM of leakage, n 80 square inch hole. Took 55 min. to get this down to 41 CFM of leakage, an 8 in hole. Very dramatic results. But the proof for me would be to feel every register and see if more cool air was exciting through the registers than before. Rick and I checked them all and every one pulled more cool air through them. I couldn't be happier. If anyone plans to have this service performed watch The Old House Video on this website for basic knowledge. After setup watch Rick perform the tests. You can see the progress being made and Rick enjoys the company.

The day before the duct sealing, a separate contractor (provided as part of the sealing process) came to our house to clean the duct. Our house is only five years old and was surprised at the amount of drywall dust and other construction debris that come out of our system. The second day, Rick came with a crew of three others to seal the duct. The process began with sealing off all of the supply and return grills in the house, and blocking air flow through the furnace. They began the sealing process on the supply side. The initial leakage was 139 cfm. At this value, the system barely would have passed current code. The sealing process only took about 25 minutes to complete. We found several large leaks that were patched, and the final result was the leakage dropped to 6 cfm. Once the supply was completed, the equipment was switched to the return duct. Not surprising given the construction method the return system had 309 cfm of leakage. Sealing the return look a little longer, but they were able to get the final leakage rate down to 40 cfm. Throughout the process Rick explained what was happening and how the process worked. The crew did a very good job of covering everything in the basement. The process works by injecting a polymer into the duct as an aerosol. As it leaks out of the duct it seals the leak. During the sealing, it is possible to see the aerosol for a haze in the air. They use air cleaners to capture the haze. Once they left I didn't notice any residual residue from the process. I haven't had enough time to tell if sealing has helped the temperature variations we were experiencing. It does feel like there is more air coming from the vent in his room. I also have increased peace of mind knowing I am not breathing everything that is inside of my walls.
Description of Work: I am an HVAC professional and was concerned about the amount of duct leakage I felt in the basement, as well as the use of panel board and wall cavities as a return. I am an asthmatic and my children show similar tendencies. Using wall cavities as returns is about the worst thing possible for creating a healthy environment in the house. I was also concerned about the temperature control in my son's bedroom. His room has two exterior walls and the longest duct run in the house. His room is either hot in the summer or cold in the winter. I contact Greene Solutions after seeing the Aeroseal process on Ask This Old House. I did research on the product and local providers. Thomas (the owner) came to our house to evaluate our house and suggested a duct cleaning and the Aeroseal process.

The owner of Greene Solutions, Thomas came out and spent a few hours with us, asking the specific problems we found with air distribution over the years. He went into each room, checked all air-flow points, then went into the basement to check our complaints about significant air leakage around our main fireplace. He then walked around with my wife and I and pointed out his observations. Turning on the air system, he demonstrated leakage in many areas of our ductwork, where they continued to seep air despite being taped. He gave an estimate to: seal all ductwork with new Aeroseal technology (see online demo), manually seal all large holes, use spray foam on 16 feet of rim joist under the fireplace crawl space. He installed an actual heavy duty vapor barrier (rather than plastic dropcloth) in both large crawl spaces and sealed it using foam to the insulated stud insulations. He also used 2 inch closed cell foam in the rim joist crawl spaces. Rick, Thomas' father and 2 other workers came out and spent two days doing the work. They were neat and helped find and correct a dropped air supply and other issues both related and unrelated to their work. They even found and fixed a few spots where rodents and insects could enter, despite the area supposedly being sealed years before. The aeroseal system, which is quite large, uses a computer readout to show how effective it is in sealing the system. Our system was quite "leaky," and the men spent quite awhile identifying larger spots of leakage before sealing the inside ducts. Our supply efficiency became 98% improved. The change is dramatic. Every part of each room is equally cooled and we now must keep our system at higher settings in order not to become too cold. All employees of this company have worked together for years. They are personable and helpful. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Our 1980 home has had difficulty with even air and heat flow, as well as air leakage since we purchased it about 8 years ago. We put in new insulation in the walls and ceilings, installed Andersen windows, which helped, but we continued with difficulties of air-flow problems of some areas of a room being up to 5 degrees different than another, the upstairs staying hot, and the basement always receiving much of the heat/air despite closed vents, up to 10 degrees different. It was time for a new air/heat system, and when installed, the installers noted that a lot of air was being leaked in the ductwork connections. They recommended a free diagnosis by Greene Solutions.

Rick from Greene Solutions came to my house and performed the attic and outside home inspection as described above. Overall he spent about an hour with me and explained everything thoroughly. I had already had another company come out the week prior and the two assessments and recommendations aligned pretty well. The main difference was the first company suggested an electric attic fan whereas Rick suggested against it, his reasoning being that would be generating more energy in order to save energy. I'm no physicist but I agree with the principle. Rick provided a detailed quote and we agreed on a price. He scheduled the service for the next week in two stages: soffits then attic. The soffit installer came out a couple of days early to inspect the outside and take measurements. He returned the next Monday, arrived on time, and spent about six hours installing soffits and perforation panels. He was very friendly and professional, and while most of the debris was cleaned up when he finished, l found about 15 nails on the ground and debris from the underside of the roof on my porch and ledges that I cleaned up myself. I would suggest in the future he bring a tarp and a broom to catch nails and clean up debris. But overall his finished work was excellent. Two days later the three-man attic crew arrived and actually apologized for being ten minutes early. We discussed the least obtrusive entry point for the insulation hose and they went to work. They were friendly yet highly professional -- no taking breaks, talking on the phone or wasting time. They installed the insulation and baffles, fixed the exhaust fan, removed an old stove pipe that served no purpose, and even added 12 inches of insulation over the garage (for free!) with what they had left over. I went up to the attic and they explained their work. Afterward they cleaned up perfectly and were completely finished in just 3 hours. I also mentioned to the crew I may need new basement windows and my crawl space inspected; within two hours another representative from the company called and came to the house that day. So, within a week of calling Greene solutions, my house has more evenly distributed and efficient airflow. Already I've noticed my A/C has come on less frequently in order to maintain the set temperature. I look forward to more air comfort and lower utility bills. Overall, Greene Solutions is a very professional, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, customer-service oriented, and highly competent organization. I will be calling on them again.
Description of Work: 1. Inspected the inside of my home using a thermal imagery device which showed many "hot spots" where heat was building up and/or escaping. Inspected the attic and found it was not up to code as well as several areas that were not installed properly or could be improved, such as the bathroom exhaust fan was not pushing air out properly and the underside of the roof had no baffles. Inspected the outside of my home and found the perimeter had no soffits which greatly impedes airflow from outside and through the attic. My house is a 1959 ranch that had minimal insulation and has probably not been up to code since the '80's. He also suggested I replace the recessed halogen lighting in the living room with LEDs, as they were a major source of heat buildup. I replaced them and love the new LEDs. 2. Installed soffits around entire house and replaced perforation panels. Installed insulation in entire attic to 17 in. Installed baffles under roof all around. Extended bathroom exhaust hose which created better exhaust pull.
