Description of Work: Gates Basement Finishing was hired to finish 1550 square feet of our basement. This included a full bath and wet bar (both roughed in at the time of construction in 2013), several entertainment areas and a bedroom (already with an egress window). We had a good idea of how we wanted the space before meeting with them and they followed our ideas perfectly. Aaron Fering was the lead on our project and did an amazing job with the framing, staining of woodwork, electrical, plumbing work and so much more. Aaron made suggestions along the way, including how to expand the bathroom space to accommodate a larger shower which ended up carrying the "same line" as the upstairs. Great company! Highly recommend!

Description of Work: I purchased the $850 deposit to get our basement remodel at a low price however when the inspector came over to assess the job, he tried to upcharge me on a number of things that "were not included in the price quoted". The offer was $8,000 for 300 sq. ft. of basement finishing and I ended up having 390 sq. ft. and he quoted me for $11,748 all in. In addition to that, I didn't even need a new ceiling and 25% of the wall was already finished with brick. I was very unsatisfied with the whole experience.

Description of Work: We hired Gates after soliciting bids from a few companies, including Buckeye Basements, to finish approximately 1,000 sq. ft. in our unfinished basement. We worked with Les to create the floor plan and Mike was our project manager. Everything pretty much went according to plan except with a delay on our end due to our trying to figure out where to buy cabinets for our home theatre wall and wet bar. Gates even helped us out by building two custom desktops in the basement office which was not in the original scope. The one major complaint is that after reading other reviews about the drywall phase we specifically requested they tape off the vents in the basement and hang two separate plastic dividers from the basement to the upstairs to prevent the drywall dust spreading. They didn't do that and we had a huge mess to clean up several times in the weeks following before it all settled.

 + 0 moreI was really impressed by the consultant Les Fearing. He was very polite and professional. He wasn't too wordy or too pushy like some salespeople can be. We discussed our ideas for the basement with him and he seemed very willing to work with us. He always returned our phone calls when we had a question or concern about the project. The workers who came out to the house were terrific. They were friendly and respectful. One of the guys even brought doggie treats for our dog. They worked quickly and did a great job. We were very pleased with the final results.
Description of Work: They finished a large section of our basement (360 sq. ft.), installed two doors and three ceiling lights, rerouted the air vent, replaced the two basement windows with glass block windows, added a light to the crawl space, changed two pull-string lights in the laundry room to work off a switch, and added a laundry sink.

 + 0 moreLes was very attentive and did a good job on the sales end. The construction process was not as I had imagined. Mike was the head of this project and communication was not there, even after I requested to be better informed of the project. I was not instructed as to when to provide certain items. The people doing the work were pleasant and did a good job of keeping the mess in the basement. The quality of the work was good. There are items that I feel are not done to my satisfaction, but I do not feel like I can contact Gates to resolve them. It was obvious that they were ready to move on to their next job. There was no follow-up to see if everything was OK. I guess I was just expecting more of an effort at customer satisfaction. Perhaps this is due to my inexperience with major remodeling.
Description of Work: Tear-out of existing finished basement, installation of new finished basement, including kitchenette, drywall, electrical, plumbing; added 1/2 bath with no rough-in, added storage cabinets. Did not include carpeting or cabinets for kitchenette.
