FORTNER UPHOLSTERING INC

After looking for a number of years I was out of state and found fabric I wanted for the job. I contacted Glen who told me the number of yards I would need to purchase for the job. When I was ready to have the work done their sales person Chris came to my home to review the job and provide an estimate. They picked up the furniture as scheduled and Ann kept me up to date with the timing of the work. They returned the furniture in a timely manner. The gentlemen who picked up and returned the furniture were very polite, careful and personable. They quality of the work is wonderful. Their staff clearly paid attention to detail in matching the pattern on both pieces. I will use them again.

They also have new furniture over there. They were great. They were great to work with and everything went fine. They are not cheap but I don’t think upholsters are. They are great upholsters.

Overall, it went very well. I was a bit disappointed that they charged $92 handling charge for using customer-provided fabric. Once I got over the sticker shock, I have to say that the results were terrific. The quality of the upholstery workmanship is superb. These look like new chairs. Also, they were very accessible prior to the purchase. They gave us a tour of their workshop so we could see the quality of their work before deciding to purchase. In summary, their services are not a bargain price-wise, bur if you want excellent results, you can count on them to deliver.

Sue at the 5th & Kenny location was very helpful in providing a preliminary estimate based on emailed photos of the chair, then in selecting the fabric. The chair was picked up and we were given an opportunity to the Johnstown Rd location later to check the padding being used before the job was completed. We were concerned about comfort and how it might affect some leg problems we both have. The chair was delivered and we later noticed squeaks from the chair when sitting. Glenn came back out, took the chair back to the shop, resolved the problem, and redelivered the chair with no additional charge. We're very satisfied with the results.

The quality of work is outstanding. It hardly looks like slipcovers. It looks like original upholstery. It took longer than projected. The cost seemed a little high but I have no basis for comparison.

The other companies that I contacted about reupholstering the furniture were stumped by my allergy-proofing request. While Fortner's had never done this before either, they did the research for me and came up with a great solution (having the backing applied to the fabric). I greatly appreciated the short pickup/delivery windows (1 hour) and regular email communications. This company clearly understands that its customers are busy people who can't wait at home or sit by the phone all day. My only suggestion is that they get some natural/Incandescent lighting in the showroom. We were there on a rainy day and it was difficult to get a sense of what the fabric colors would look like under their florescent lighting. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the work and experience.

Their customer relations were very poor from the beginning. However, they promised to reupholster and replace glides (two were present and two were missing). We were told that the glides would be replaced whether by parts they had in their shop or new parts purchased from another retailer. The upholstering job was very marginal. I'm certain that others could do a much better job. There are places where the material is not tight and many strings/stips were left stuck hanging out. Also, the glides were not replaced. After we picked up the finished piece (only after returning home), we noticed that nothing had been done to the glides. We called them soon after and were assured that they would be fixed. They even offered to come to the house to do the repairs. Three weeks later, someone showed up, affixed tiny felt pads to the two existing glides and the bottom of the other two legs and proceeded to leave. When it was brought to his attention that the loveseat was still uneven and missing two glides, we were told "oh I see, well if you take off those other two, it will be even." Then he left. We have not heard from them since.

When I originally contacted them about the work they sent out a man to give me an estimate. He gave me an estimate for twelve pieces of furniture. He took a lot of time looking at all of the furniture and he wrote up a good estimate for all of the workmanship. He knew a lot about furniture and a lot about my furniture as far as it's construction and what might look good. He was professional and he made some good suggestions. I liked working with him very much. The workmanship was very good and we chose some high quality material. They turned the work around very quickly. From start to finish the project took a long time to no particular fault of theirs. He cut me a good price on the fabric and their prices for labor are in the same range for the area.

They reupholstered eight chairs. They practically rebuilt the chairs by re-gluing them. They are all solid and sturdy again. They rebuilt the sagging cushions in the chairs with new materials. The chairs really look new and feel great to sit in. They kept them for me for several months while I had the room painted, and did not charge me extra, or get upset about storing them for me. The pick up and delivery was $75.00.

Quality was excellent. People were friendly, helpful, and professional. Work was completed on time at the estimated price.

I was very pleased. Glenn spent a lot of time with me helping me select the best fabric for my needs (a dog that loved to dig in the sofa). They also raised the legs a little to make it easier for me to get up from it. They did not take the sofa until the fabric that they ordered had come in, so it was gone the least amount of time. They had it done by my deadline.

The people were very friendly and helpful. The finished product was excellent. Like many busy companies, they were not always quick to return phone calls.

It's a family-owned business, and you can tell that they care about everything. It's three generations of fathers who have worked there and own the company. Very good customer service, the representatives are just good people.

Restuffing was too hard on back and reupholstering was not completed. Fortner representative was told this and they promised to return to fix the problem. Months went by without any contact from them. We tried repeated phone calls and an email to Fortner to get problem resolved. Calls went unreturned. We planned to complain to decorator but unfortunately she passed away prior to getting involved.

VERY PLEASED WITH THE WORK THEY DID.

BEAUTIFUL, PRICE WAS GOOD, SERVICE WAS FINE. I WAS PLEASED WITH THE EXPERIENCE AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO OTHERS.

UPHOLSTERY WORK WAS EXCELLENT. PATTERNS WERE MATCHED CAREFULLY ON THE CHAIRS. ANTIQUE CHAIR BEAUTIFULLY DONE. MOST HELPFUL IN SELECTING THE MATERIAL. TOOK 3 MONTHS TO COMPLETE ALL THE WORK--FROM TIME ORDERED TO COMPLETION.

YOU CAN SEE THE SEEMS IN THE MATERIAL AND YOU SHOULDNT BE ABLE TO. THE SEEMS ARE VERY OBVIOUS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE PILLOWS ALSO. IT LOOKS LIKE THEY WERE SHORT OF MATERIAL. THE CHAIR LOOKS HORRIBLE AND I DID NOT USE THEM TO RE-UPHOLSTER MY OTHER TWO CHAIRS. IT WAS VERY EXPENSIVE AND THEY DID VERY POOR WORK!!

VERY FRIENDLY SERVICE, WORK WELL DONE.

WHILE THIS JOB TOOK FOREVER BECAUSE THE LEATHER THAT WE SELECTED TURNED OUT NOT TO BE AVAILABLE, THE END PRODUCT WAS WORTH THE WAIT (THEY USED LEATHER THEY HAD BEEN LEFT HOLDING BY ANOTHER CUSTOMER WHICH WAS VERY SIMILAR) AND WE ARE ALL ENJOYING THE RESULTS.

SAID THEY WOULD HAVE IT DONE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, AND THEY DID!

DIDNT DO AS GOOD A JOB AS THE ORIGINAL. BAD WRINKLES

THEY HAVE GREAT FABRIC STORE. LADY IN CHARGE IS VERY GOOD TOHELP. WORKMANSHIP? NEED MORE ATTENTION TO DETAILS. I WOULDNT HIRE THEM AGAIN.

THERE WERE A FEW GLITCHES, THEY WERE VERY GOOD ABOUT TAKING CARE OF PROBLEMS AND UPDATING ME.

MR. FORTNER HIMSELF CAME TO OUR HOUSE TO GIVE US AN ESTIMATE. HE WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HELPFUL TO US. ESPECIALLY SINCE WE HAVE NEVER REUPHOLSTERED ANYTHING BEFORE. I FEEL THAT THE PRICE WAS FAIR CONSIDERING WHAT A THOROUGH JOB THEY DID.
