Favret Heating & Cooling

Our air conditioning unit stopped working on Thursday night. On Friday morning I called to see if a technician could come out. They told me that a technician would be able to come between 12 - 4, and the technician was here by 12:45 p.m. He determined the problem (capacitor) quickly. He obtained the part from HQ and had it installed and working by 1:45 p.m.

They came out the next day, which was wonderful (it was very hot and other companies couldn't come for several days). When they arrived, they said they couldn't work with the AC unit because it had been turned on and the unit was too hot. They returned later (early evening) and said it needed more coolant, that the coolant had probably leaked out over the winter and it was probably a very slow leak. However, the man said he couldn't test for the leak, because the clouds looked like rain and he couldn't risk getting his expensive testing machine wet in rain. (It did not rain here that day.) So he said the only thing he could do was to fill it with coolant, which was over $500, but it worked. We went on vacation the next day for two weeks. When we got back from vacation the AC only put out very slightly cool air again! It just kept getting worse, and not wanting to spend a lot of money again, we waited and tried to make it work. A couple weeks later we called Favret again for a repair or replacement estimate and after we left messages three times, they called and left us a message that they'd call back later that afternoon. They did not call back. At that point we gave our business to another company. We feel that Favret really should have tested the AC before filling it and should have called us back promptly when we tried to contact them again so they could fix the problem.

Amazing after-hours response. Our A/C capacitor had blown on one of the hottest days of the summer. Favret dispatched a tech to our house immediately, and he arrived in about an hour which seemed too good to be true. All of this happened after 7PM when many of the other companies were already closed. The tech called me on his way, replaced the capacitor, cleaned the A/C coils, and added coolant. The A/C is running great -- perfect timing since it's supposed to be 96 today!

Air conditioner condenser quit working. Within an hour and a half on a Sunday afternoon a repairman was at the house and had the AC up and running inside 20 minutes.

After 13 years of use (it should have lasted a few years longer) the compressor in the old outside unit had failed completely; in fact, the technician found a hole in it. Replacing the compressor made no sense, so we opted for a new system. We have been dealing with Favret for decades, and have a maintenance agreement (excellent arrangement). The sales representative was very responsive, but he neglected to check whether the new 2-stage air conditioner was electrically compatible at the circuit board with the furnace blower control. If he had seen that, we would have had 2 options, one of which would have included a new furnace at an advantageous price (the furnace is 18 years old, Favret installed). But the installer, who was excellent, solved the problem elegantly with the installation of a relay, so that the AC can operate the blower at 2 speeds (which the furnace does too). The relay with its wiring slowed down the whole installation, and the sales rep., alerted to the situation, even stopped by--a good man. The installation was a matter of some 6 hours; then came the technician, in less than an hour after the installer left. The technician, Bill, was just as thorough, careful, alert, and expert as the installer--by 5 PM his work was done. The AC has been working wonderfully, cooling the house more efficiently with less electricity.

FANTASTIC! Everyone from the phone receptionists to the technicians have been outstanding! Everything you could hope for in customer service-punctual, professional, personable, and very knowledgable. We have been very happy with our experiences and highly recomend their service plan. Special kudos to Andre who came out over the weekend. We are very pleased with the company and highly recommend.

I awoke on a Saturday morning during a cool spell and discovered I had no heat. I called Favret at 8:00 a.m. and very nice lady took my report. She called me back at 9:00 a.m. to tell me a service man was on his way, but that it would take about an hour since he was coming from Plain City and I live on the Far East side. A little before 10:00 a.m. I got a call from the service man. He was near my house but needed directions. He said his head was a little fuzzy because it was his weekend on call and he hadn't had a chance to get coffee. I told him how to get to my how and described it to him. I also told him I'd have coffee waiting when he arrived. He got to my house by 10:00 a.m. He looked over the furnace, got the right part, and replaced it. When he was finished and in the kitchen filling out his invoice I poured him a cup of coffee and showed him a hand tool I'd taken apart and couldn't put back together. He put it back together for me. By 11:00 a.m. he was on his way. I had a warm house and he had his morning coffee. What a very polite, respectful and kind man!

In summary. Favret installed a good product at a fair price and fixed their mistakes, but getting their salesperson to call me back was next to impossible. Next time i will choose a smaller company that values their customers more. The original visit from the estimator (Doug) was fine. Scheduled a date, and the following items were written up on the work order: 1. Install the HEPA filter unit which consists of filter assembly and a UV sterilizer lamp within the assembly 2. Reconnect a disconnected duct 3. Remove and patch over a disused humidifier. Was told by the estimator the job would take about 2 hours, it took 5 hours. They arrived at 8:30 and left after 1:30 pm. The install for the HEPA unit was attach into the main cold air return duct that goes back into the furnace, run a second duct out of the cold return to the HEPA unit and run less than a foot of duct back into the furnace, and wire the HEPA unit for power. Install/work problems were: 1. They did not tape or seal any of the joints on the new HEPA unit ductwork. The joints between the furnace itself where the HEPA unit pushes air into the furnace were so gapped that I could see the UV light shining out from the HEPA unit, and air was shooting out. 2. The pipe previously connected to the humidifier was cut off and not capped and air shot out when the furnace was on 3. Disconnected duct was not reconnected as written on the work order. I dont believe the technican even read the work order because when i mentioned removing the humidifier a he said "what are you talking about" and said he wasnt aware of that part, until i told him to read the work order. So, I called Doug back and left him a message regarding the incomplete work and asked to have them come back out. He didnt call me back for a couple of weeks and i left additional messages. He called me back on 4/30/10 and i told him I wanted them to come out 5/21/10. He said he had to check with the scheduler and told me that he would call me 5/3/10 to confirm the date but that since it was so far in the future it would not be an issue. He did not call me back 5/3/10 or any other day. I left 4 messages for him at both his numbers on his business card between 5/14/10 and 5/19/10 just asking to confirm whether they were coming out on 5/21/10 or not. Finally I was looking at the original work order paper and there was a different cell phone number on there, i called him on 5/20/10 and he actually answered the phone and told me he "was just listening to my message" from the night before...so he was getting all my messages and just not returning my call. Doug said they had a "scheduling problem" and thats why he didnt call me back before. I told him, all i wanted to know was someone going to show up at my house tomorrow or not? He said yes. 5/20/10 a different technician arrived, puttied over all the joints everywhere in the furnace, fixed humidifier cap and loose duct, did a fine job.

We were looking to replace the furnace and air conditioner and get some air duct cleaning estimates. We called four different manufacturer's to see what was available. In researching I found that the Install was more important than the furnace. Jim Chesbrough the sales Rep for Favret was very impressive and knew the products and we had had a furnace put in by Favret before and loved that experience, so we decided to go with them.

They came when expected and were neat and professional. The one thing we didn't realize is that a separate technician would come back later and turn the unit on. That caused us to readjust our schedule because we needed to wait for him and Favret couldn't tell us when. It was good in the end, but there we're several hours in between the installation and turning it on. The technician was very good and explained it all to me. The old air conditioner unit was taken and the new one was put in its place. I was impressed with the way they tidied up the mulch in the area around the unit.

Favret arrived at our new (old) house for a scheduled air duct cleaning. The technicians did a walk through with me and found that the air ducts had been cleaned by the previous owners. They opened up a return and determined that I wouldn't get much "bang for my buck" to have the cleaning done yet. Their visit was billed as a free estimate, and as a new home owner, I was so relieved not to have one thing not in need of repair! I can't say enough how much I appreciate their professionalism and honesty--they are truly an A+ company! We WILL be using them in the future when we eventually need an air duct cleaning.

They were absolutely fabulous and no pressure. They gave us all the information that we needed at the time and helped us get a furnace that we are able to get a tax credit for and they also made sure we had all the paperwork to file for the tax credit. There workers were polite, efficient and cleaned up after themselves. Also before they left they made sure we knew how to use everything. Just overall good experience from start to finish. We had them come out recently to repair the AC unit and once again wonderful experience.

They've been responsive and their work is good. I've been using them for 10 years. They provide continued reliable service.

It went very well. Our ancient furnace and air conditioner had to be replaced, and this seemed like a good time to do it...while rebates and tax benefits are still out there, The experience began with Angie,s list, finding the highest ranked heating and air conditioning company. We weren't disappointed. The price we were quoted seemed very fair and reasonable, which meant we didn't have to haggle about it. The quality of work was outstanding in every respect. The Favret employees knew what they were doing, and did it very efficiently. They use NO SUBCONTRACTORS, and almost all their employees have been with the company for a long time, several, I believe, for over fifty years. Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with this company.

They gave me a price I couldn?t turn down. They installed a new Carrier system. I got a great value and the tax rebate.

Tom Yost came out to my house to discuss what I wanted. He took some measurements and, soon thereafter, provided a quote. He did not try to pursuade me to buy more than what I wanted and got me the best value for what I needed. The installation was difficult because of the small space but the crew did a fantastic job. They did not cut any corners and dealt with the challenge head on. They were very courteous and cleaned up everything. I highly recommend that Angie's List users contact Tom Yost if they need a furnace and/or air conditioner.

I had a burning smell and abnormal noises coming from my furnace. I called after normal business hours on the weekend, which seems to be the time these kinds of things always occur, and the person on call was able to guess from my description that it was probably the motor. since it was the weekend, he could not get the part needed till monday morning, but I offered to read the serial # and model# off my furnace to him over the phone so he was able to submit an order for the motor first thing monday. the technician came out monday afternoon and since he already had the likely part needed for repair, was able to install it in less than a half hour. very professional and very accommodating. thank you.

I thought the service fee was excessive. The man that came was nice, but when I received the bill, it really shocked me. I had to have it done, so I had to pay it.

They handled themselves professionally and I would use them again.

Favret Heating and Cooling has always been a reliable company and we have used their services, both maintenance and installation, beginning with our first house. When we needed to replace the old heating equipment in this home we selected them to install new heat pumps, air handlers, and air purifiers. The installers were knowledgeable, skilled, and efficient. The new equipment is neatly installed and functioning effectively. It was good to have workers in our home who were courteous and cleaned the work areas after each day. I highly recommend them for heating and cooling services.

When we had to call them for a 2nd problem, they prioritized us and they were out here in a few hours. They gave us some options for the repairs which was nice to know from a cost standpoint. They were very thorough. We will us them and I recommend them.

We have generally been satisfied with them. We are on a contract with them so we pay maybe $150 to $180 a year for them to come out and do seasonal inspection for the heat pump unit. The price is competitive; it is similar to other company's prices. I would continue to use them.

They were very expensive. I think they charged by the hour and the technician was talkative. When we first bought the furnace, they said that it was quiet and I will never know when it is running which was less then true. Everything rattled as we have an old house and we always knew when the heat was running and when the air was running. So, we had them out to check on the rattle and see if there was anything that they could do to make it a little quieter. They actually came out twice and the second time they came, they finally were able to fix the rattle a little bit.

Very professional staff. We had spoken with 2 or 3 other HVAC firms during the tight timeline of getting this critical repair before the REAL cold hit. Favret's folks we the most informative and diligent about getting us back online.
