Sales representative was fair and honest and didn't try to oversell us. Also explained that Carrier and TempStar were built side by side at the same factories. In all the reviews I read for HVAC system replacements, it seems to be a common theme that the systems are secondary to the work that's done on the installation. The installation crew was very good. However, the first day seemed to end abruptly, everyone disappeared and no one mentioned that they'd be coming back for the second day or what time they'd arrive. This was not a problem for me since I work from home, but could have been an issue for anyone needing to schedule time off from work to have someone home. On the second day the final tasks were completed and the tech said that we'd get a call to set up a final calibration and start up for the system. That call never came and I had to follow up the next week to ensure it was scheduled. I also had to follow up on the city permit and inspection. In talking to the inspector, he was surprised that the permit was submitted after the work had been done and that the inspection was so long after everything was completed. However, the inspector found no issues with the work that had been done. Favret seems like a good company and I would work with them again. I assume somewhere along the line the ball was dropped on a few details of our project and will hope it's an isolated incident.
Description of Work: Replaced our entire HVAC system (furnace, AC condenser and compressor) both of which were the house's original units.

I was extremely pleased with their sales representative, the installation crew, and office staff. They even came out to do an in-home energy assessment and completed the AEP rebate form for me. They installed a new programmable thermostat as well.

My hvac equipment was very old, and I purchased an annual service agreement where Favret came out twice a year to maintain my furnace and a/c unit. The agreement also included emergency service (I only paid extra for parts). They were always prompt and professional. In addition to the regular maintenance, they probabaly averaged one emergency call per year, so I feel like the service agreement was a good deal for my situation. When my A/C unit finally bit the dust this summer, it took a couple of service calls and phone calls to determine that the unit should be replaced. One rep who I spoke to on the phone was very rude. She really ticked me off, which made me decide to look at some other companies. However because of their past track record, I went ahead and scheduled an appointment to get an estimate. The soonest they could stop by for an estimate was one week later (it was the hottest month of the year...) I called some other HVAC companies for estimates and decided to use another company who could install a new furnace and a/c unit in a more timely manner.

We left a message for Favret last night and they called us early this morning. We scheduled an appointment during the 10-2 window. Ten minutes later we received a call saying that the technician could come right away. We were thrilled! Jim, our technician was great. He was able to explain our problem, and potential solutions. When the temperatures reached 90 degrees plus earlier this month, I noticed the heat pump/air was not cooling the house. At first, I called a company that I had used for years - winter and summer - for service/repairs and I was told not to bother fixing it because it was time to replace it. That may be the case, but I wanted somebody to show up for a scheduled appointment and look at it. I took off work twice and they didn't show. So I decided to try a new company, FAVRET and a technician arrived the next morning. The technician was on time, professional and explained the work, cost, etc. The house was cool within the hour and still working. I will call FAVRET again in the fall for the annual winter service call.

I have had them for many, many years and I have a service agreement, they check the air conditioning, they check the heating and cooling. I think I bought two furnaces and an air conditioner from them. One their technicians didn't live too far from me and he would come to my house before I left for work so I didn't have to take a day off to get something done. I really, really appreciated that. That's one of the reasons I'm one of their long time customers. I thought that was above and beyond what you thought a company would do.

A few days ago I called Favret to get a quote on a whole house generator. I talked with Patrick Favret and he told me Paul (which is the guy that put my furnace in while I was in Florida a few years back) would call me the next day .When Paul finally called me he stated he was tied up and couldn't get back with me. I Stated that's ok. I went on to explain why I was calling. He really didn't seem interested in talking with me about the generator. He stated they only put them in as a favor to their current customers. He also stated that was not his field and would have to refer to a Doug Gilliman. Now I am not complaining about the referral but now that I've waited another few days and still haven't heard from Favret Company on the generator. Today, July 12, 2013 several days later Doug Gilliman phone me and explained he was checking out electricians to do installs for generators. I told him to disregard my request and in the future you should tell folks up front that you don't install generators. I am now looking for other companies to do the job. I will however continue to have Favret take care of you Air conditioner and Furnace.

NEVER USE FAVRET. WHAT COMPANY WOULD CALL A WOMAN AT HOME AND SCREAM AT HER FOR A BAD REVIEW ON ANGIE'S LIST? ANGIE'S LIST SHOULDN'T SUPPORT A COMPANY THAT WOULD DO SUCH A THING! OH, AND TO THE FAVRETS AND THE EMPLOYEE THEY HAD CALL AND SCREAM AT ME.......SHAME ON ALL OF YOU.
Description of Work: Favret didn't install new furnace/ac correct years back. Continued to charge me for problems I have had since. After getting no responses to email, voicemails, and letters I wrote a review on Angie's List. Then, I called a more reputable company. They came out and detected all of the problems right away and are able to fix them. The head controller at Favret just called me at home and yelled at me. He was threatening and scary. He told me the Favret brothers never want to hear my name again for the bad review on Angie's List. I was so scared I contacted an attorney and we are now heading to court to retrieve the money I have spent on this faulty unit.

For over 10 years we used Favret for all of our furnace and AC maintenance needs. We were always satisfied with the work that they did, their professionalism, their promptness, and their price. They were also honest with us in only correcting things that were needed and not trying to sell us more than what was needed. So when it came time for a new system they were the first people that we called. I was shocked and disappointed to find out the sales person was very inflexible with trying to schedule time to come out and work with us on a quote for the new system. It would have been almost a foregone conclusion that we would have went with them due to our past experiences, but due to their inflexibility in scheduling, we were forced to look elsewhere and found another provider. It is unfortunate for Favret because they will now also lose our maintenance business as well.
Description of Work: We used Favret for all of our furnace and AC maintenance, both when something broke and for annual check-up's. We also asked them to provide us with a quote for a whole new system.

Showed up at 8:30 in morning and got to work immediately replacing inside and outside components, was polite and finished job by afternoon. Favret told me it was an all day job which was certainly true. Three different people showed up- 2 installers and then the tech who loaded coolant and turned unit on.Overall they were very professional and explained well why they did things the way they did them. They took great care not to get my floor dirty which I appreciated

I called at 9 AM this morning and by 1:30 they were out. I was called prior to the arrival of the tech, he arrived shortly after. Clay was very helpful and explained everything he needed to do including cost. He inspected the unit and found the problem and replaced the part, He also cleaned the unit giving me tips to prevent future problems with the outside unit. I was very impressed with the time he took and the final outcome.

SECOND UPDATE: Favret sent another technician out today (Monday). Picked up where the last technician left off. Had it running again within an hour or so. So nice to have a cool house again. The bill, with Angie's List discount: $58.50. We're planning on getting a new heat pump before the end of summer. UPDATE: The heat pump quit working again three days after it was repaired. Our 21-year-old heat pump was working perfectly, until the afternoon of July 3. When we got home, it was like we had the heat on instead of the air-conditioning. Considering the time and date, we figured we'd be lucky to have a technician out within three days. When I called Favret (they had installed the heat pump originally), Tina said they could have someone out between 2-6 p.m. About 1:30, she called and said a tech was on his way. When Donavan got to our house, he went to the heat pump and began inspecting everything, saying it might just be something simple. He fixed it and was gone within less than an hour.

Our central air conditioner was frozen up and not working. We have a maintenance contract with Favret. I called them on Monday morning and they were there that afternoon, within the 4-hour time window we agreed upon. The technician defrosted the unit, replaced refrigerant, and noted some parts that needed to be replaced. He got the air conditioner working. On Thursday of that week (the date originally scheduled for the annual spring maintenance), another technician came out and replaced the parts. The cost of labor was covered in our service contract. We paid about $250 total for refrigerant and parts.

Rick came out to the house to give me an estimate to replace my existing 20-year-old HVAC. He was very professional and respectful. Kept the side talk about sports, cars, families to a minimum. (Two other representatives were here who took up my time talking about many things other than HVAC. I guess this was there attempt at building a relationship. Is this their idea of how to woo a woman for their product?) I also appreciated Rick writing an estimate THAT day, rather than have me wait an indefinite time. Rick proposed replacing my existing furnace, which is too large, with a smaller unit, but didn't adequately explain how he came up with this number. (He proposed 60,000 BTU and my current furnace is 100,000 BTU.) I happen to be a person who needs details, the more the better! I also had a person out here who took up my time talking about things other than HVACs, and never brought up the subject that my existing furnace is too large for the size of house. Why I didn't go with Favret: not enough details in the estimate, prefer a Trane over a Lennox because of the repair records, and found a better payment plan.

At my place of business, towards the end of our work day, our smoke alarms sounded and we smelled a burning odor. We called the fire department, and the lieutenant searched our building, finding the problem to be coming from our hvac system, and advised us to turn off our system. We immediately called Favret and told them of the situation, and within 30 minutes, we had Tim, their service technician, here to attend to our problem. Tim found that one of the hvac units had frozen up, causing the blower motor to overheat. He allowed the unit to thaw, then examined it to find that the capacitor was not working properly. He replaced the capacitor and got the unit up and running, within 30 minutes. He mentioned that he had already finished for the day when the Favret office had called and asked if he could come back to check out our problem due to an emergency. We were very pleased with the excellent service, the quick response, and the timely repair, and all before the end of our work day! We would highly recommend Favret for all hvac needs!

Tech arrived 15 minutes late but I wasn't bothered since he was coming during rush hour from 20 miles away. He arrived and prompty put protective covering on his feet to protect my carpeting. Was polite, introduced himself and got right to business addressing my issue. He also asked many questions of me to help his pinpointing of the problem. Water was leaking from AC part of furnace from night before and he started by cleaning out side AC unit thoroughly and testing coolant which he determined was working just fine, He also checked for coolant leaking because the past two repairman had believed there was a leak somewhere although they could never find it exactly. Favret's tech said if there is a leak it is almost always at the evaporator. He also pointed out some things that two other HVAC companies failed to including a severely rusted coil pan that was leaking water down the side of my furnace and the fact the drain tubing was too long and also filled with rust debris preventing proper drainage. He also showed me how the air filter was not going all the way into the furnace because of screws put in during the original install. This for the last 19 years has allowed dirty air to flow around the gap and dirty the inside of the furnace. Was more knowledgeable than any of the other companies I have used before including Atlas Butler. He also offered tips to help prolong the life of the AC unit outside. Overall I felt very happy with his level of care and expertise and would use Favret again in a heartbeat. Suggested I get either new coil pan or replace the coil unit entirely to fix the problem permanently and I will do that in the near future once the hot weather has lessened and the AC can be turned off. The replacement would have my AC down for a day or two and with the hot weather I don't want to go without since I have pets in the home.

The service man was very good. He was very friendly and helpful. He put in a temporary part until they could come the next day and add a new one. It got us up and running for the weekend which was wonderful.

They came out the same day we called before noon--which was earlier than the estimated afternoon time they originally gave us. They were in contact with us from our house and had already determined the problem before we even arrived home to meet them. So they were nearly done repairing by the time we arrived at our house (my husband gave them the go-ahead to do the repair over the phone). They also noted that the AC coils were dirty, so they cleaned those.
