Great company to work with.
Description of Work: The representative was on time and professional. His investigation of our problems yielded no work for the company, however I discussed my issues with him and he was very helpful with his advice. I wish I could have used them.

The company was not responsive to my request for an appointment so there was no "go."
Description of Work: This company was recommended by my roofer as one that could do the insulation job that is needed in my home. I sent a message requesting an appointment using the Angie's list communication system. I gave them several possible dates, my phone number and e-mail address. I never received a reply. A member of Angie's list staff then gave me a couple of other recommendations and I have hired one of them.

Excellent service. Started out very well when Allen came out to do estimate, he went into attic and allowed me to tag along and he pointed out the many problem areas that he found. I explained to him that there where thing that I needed to complete in attic before I could schedule my install. Allen contacted me, and after my project was complete he and his secretary called to schedule my appt. Install went very well crew was clean neat and very respect full of my property. The two gentlemen that came out explained everything they were doing, and addressed all the concerns that I had.I would highly recommend using for any and all insulation needs.

I went to Angie's List and had three "A" rated contractors bid on this work. Make note when I first contacted these different companies, my only request was that they spray the crawl walls and sil boxes with the expanding, insulating foam. Two of the bids were a little bit lower in price than the group I went with, but Edwards/Mooney & Moses included sealing the crawl with a polyurethane vapor barrier for just a little more in price. I liked the idea of the added security-seal of a vapor barrier. I will say that I was less than impressed with the vapor barrier quality and installation. First off, I could easily buy 6 mil plastic at any store. This is cheap plastic that would easily tear if I needed to go into the crawlspace (which I will need to from time to time). Secondly, the adhesive they used was sparse and was out of a spray can. At least slather a good coat of industrial strength glue/resin to have a strong and tight seal. Thirdly, they didn't even completely seal the floor, as there were gaps between the plastic and the wall that opens to the crawl. Perhaps this work (installing a vapor barrier) would best be performed by a group that installs radon mitigation units... But my other issue with these guys was when I first called I spoke with a sales rep, they told me that I would have to buy this flame retardant sealer that would have to be applied on the outside of the foam after it dried. I was told it was non-negotiable. After discussing this with a friend who has worked with this company in his line of work, I was given a name of a different person to talk to and I set up a walk through for a bid. I never mentioned my conversation I had with his colleague (who told me they would HAVE to apply this fire retardant) and this person never mentioned it, thus saving me hundreds of dollars on a product I didn't want and apparently didn't need.
Description of Work: Applied foam insulation on crawlspace walls and in sil boxes. Also installed a "vapor barrier" in basement crawlspace.

All the work was professionally handled and completed on time with our insulation needs. We had an energy audit done by the gas company and followed through on the audit recommendations. Though we are overall happy with the work that was completed, we did not appreciate that the initial quote done by the sales person as he had under estimated the square footage of insulation that needed to be done. So when the contractors showed up to do the work, we were told it was going to cost much more than the quoted price we agreed upon. So it took a few more weeks negotiate the difference between the terms initially agreed upon with the sales person and the work that needed to be completed. Overall, we were happy with the service, but we believe the sales person failed in giving us an accurate quote the first time.

The operation went really smoothly. I gave them a B for punctuality because the estimator told me that they would be at my house at 8am and they didn't showed up until 8:45am. Not a deal breaker by any means. The were able to get the job done by 11am. They cleaned up and stray bits of insulation, allowed me to view the completed job before they left and answered all of my questions. They worked quickly and efficiently. I though that the price was far and I was given different options for the different R values of insulation. I ended up with R-40 (16.5inches). I was also quoted for the R-49 (19.5 inches) but I didn't see the need for that. I am happy with the service that I receive.

They blew the insulation most areas, and installed foam in other areas. After a Columbia Gas Home Solutions inspector reported that the insulation numbers were better, but not where they needed to be, the company sent out the workmen to add more insulation until the numbers where down to the goal. The workers were prompt, communicative, hard working, dilligent. They wanted the job done properly.
Description of Work: They installed insulation into the attic, knee walls below sloping roof lines, and into the second floor walls behind the siding. They came back a second time to add even more insultion.

They came out and gave an estimate in a timely manner. We chose them after getting a quote from another company. Both prices were good but Edwards/Mooney were able to give us a firm date for doing the work. The guys came on time (theses days that is a plus). They told us what was going to happen and how long it would take. They put plastic up on all opening including windows. There was spray foam already on some of the walls so we were able to compare their work to the existing work. Wow what a difference. Their work was so much better. We would use them again.

We used the program on our recently purchased home, built in 1937, so we could make it more energy-efficient. The inspector was here for several hours and used a number of kinds of equipment to find issues. Fortunately, our home was insulated when it was built, and only a few places needed additional insulation. We called three providers, and ultimately selected Edwards Mooney Moses because they were the largest company and were able to complete the mountains of paperwork within the very strict deadlines. If they don't, they lose out on rebates they also get for participating. Because they can't pass those on to the consumer, it's in their interest to be thorough. The $300 cost was after rebates from Col Gas and from the government program. The employees were careful when getting into our old walls and they ran a test afterwards to show the improvement. (Much of our remaining problems involve original windows we aren't willing to replace, and masonry walls which would require new interior walls with added insulation) Columbia Gas is extending this program and we would say to choose the larger service providers on their approved list just to make sure you get quality work and the rebate checks.
Description of Work: * Cost affected by Columbia Gas rebate program. We used them in conjunction with Columbia Gas of Ohio home energy audit, which is a sweet deal for consumers but a LOT of paperwork for everyone.

I contacted Edwards/Mooney and Moses to do the insulation of my home after having the Columbia Gas audit. The date was scheduled and the contractors showed up each day on time (it took 3 days). The two contractors who did the work were polite, knowledgeable and very professional. They explained their process as they went along and answered all my questions. When they were finished they cleaned up afterward. I would definitely recommend them.

We had a Columbia Gas energy audit done in our home that identified under insulated areas and energy loss. The auditor informed us that we were eligible for rebates on some of the work if we used one of their recommended companies. We chose Edwards/Mooney and Moses for an estimate and within a day, Allen Yeager came to our home, inspected and measured and provided us with an estimate. Within a week, the work crew arrived and performed the work. Chuck and Bill arrived on time and completed the job the same day. They were professional and courteous. They were careful to lay down carpet covering, wore booties and cleaned up and took all materials with them. We received an $800 program rebate on the work done and expect an additional $372 bonus rebate from Columbia Gas. Our final out of pocket cost should be $642 because we had some additional work done. This was a very positive experience and we would use them again if needed.

The sales rep was on time for the appointment, thorough in his review of the home, and quick to develop a quote. I did have to prompt him once or twice by email to send me a revised quote but he responded quickly when I did this. The workers were very thorough and conscientious about explaining what they were doing, and why, and about showing me completed work before moving on. I did have to remind them to seal a second vent under the addition. But when I did, they called the salesman to verify and did the work - no problem. My only complaint was that they spent the better part of the day on this job, which didn't appear necessary. The workers were very polite and professional and did excellent work. The difference the insultaion has made is remarkable. The temperature in the house is much more even from one floor to the next; and the second floor is much more comfortable. All in all, I had a very good experience with this company and will recommend them to others.

With the so-called 10% Angie's list member discount, the price was twice as much the two other estimates that I got, and basement was not even looked at, although I suggested it. The estimator also assumed that lead paint was present and was going to charge for abatement with out testing or mentioning that the price would be adjusted if lead was not found to be present, which it wasn't. I'm just saying that I found it interesting that two male 1950 period homeowners who had recently their houses, (cape cods with almost the exatct same square footage, with wall and ceiling acces like mine with cedar shake siding) had their homes insulated for less than half of what this woman was given an estimate for the same work, except the knee-wall area in the attic was going to have the old insulation removed/replaced, one 4' strip had some possible mildew as it was originally installed with the wrong side toward the attic.

Response from Edwards - Mooney & Moses
Fortunately or unfortunately according to how you see it, we are a Lead-safe EPA Certified Firm. Mandated by Federal Law, on or after April 22, 2010, firms working in pre-1978 homes must be certified and use lead-safe work practices during renovations. The government approved training agencies do not promote a simple scratch test as conclusive. There are regular results showing false negatives. The only approved conclusive method for testing is what is called intrusive testing. A home that was built in 1955 has a 66% chance of having lead based paint present. Paint-chip testing requires intrusive sampling. All paint layers are to be removed from the surface being tested. An appropriate sampling of the structure is required. Paint chips may only be collected by Certified Lead Inspectors or Certified Lead Risk Assessors. Once the samples are returned only then can one conclude that presence or absence of lead in the paint. Hopefully the contractor that is performing your work is Certified and following the Federal Law pertaining to lead renovation work. We have taken a position that without evidence to the contrary we will assume lead is present. To the insinuation that your pricing was higher because you are women. That is simply not the case. Every project is unique. The fact that I have nothing to compare, I cannot responsibly respond. I will say that their work timing relative to the Lead Safe requirements may be a factor. Best of luck with the contractor you have chosen.

They came in and unrolled plastic to contain the insulation. They were very efficient. When they left there was no sign they had been in the house. And you would not believe the difference in the warmth of the house going from an R factor of 28 to an R factor of 49. It was a great job by great people.

They were awful; I had so many problems. The salesperson was very professional, he knew what he was doing, and he was very helpful. The actual installers were horrible. They didn?t want to work, they came unprepared, and they came with two tubes of caulk for the whole house. They tried to do only one hour of work even though I had paid for 10 hours. I paid $875 for air sealing and they thought they were done with two tubes of caulk and two man hours. I was the one going around showing them where there was a draft. He only caulked around three sides of a window because he didn?t want to get his ladder from the truck. I felt like I had to babysit them and tell them how to do it. It was such a bad experience. It took them an hour and a half to go get more caulk and they sat in the truck for an hour after that. The insulation people were very hard workers. In fact, one guy really wanted to finish the project before he left so he started to put the insulation in at too high a rate and now it is leaking noxious gases into my home. They are just awful at executing the projects that they say they can do. The air sealing was a total rip-off but the insulation was a good price. I paid on the spot but I got an invoice later saying that I hadn?t paid. I will never use this company again. I paid for ten hours of work, but they only worked for 6.2 hours. They also got caulk on a cowhide throw rug that is now ruined.

The A ratings are for the installers. The F ratings are for the sales person. Initially we had out contractor (who was redoing our bathroom) call in Edwards Mooney and Moses. I spoke with the sales person and he quoted me a price of $600.00. I forgot to tell him that I had an Angie's List coupon good for 10% off. When our contractor talked to him later that day to schedule the job he informed the salesman that we had the 10% off coupon. We had the job done and the installers did a good job. We waited for an invoice for a few weeks before calling the sales person. He said that he had sent it to our contractor instead of us. I mentioned again that we had the Angie's list coupon. He didn't say anything about not accepting the coupon. When I talked to our contractor he told me that the sales person said that $600.00 was their minimum charge for any job and that they did not accept any discounts off of that price. This was not communicated to me. We used this same company a year or two ago to add blown in insulation to our attic and that sales person was very upfront with everything and we were quite satisfied with the result. The sales man who talked to us about spray foam insulation told me that spray foam and blown in insulation were treated as two separate divisions. It appears that the blown in insulation group got the more professional sales people. If this company is not going to honor the Angie's list coupon on their Angie's List page then it should be removed from Angie's List. Now I consider it to be false advertising and it reflects badly on Angie's list for allowing it to be posted if it will not be honored in all instances.

We appreciate the member desire to take advantage of the coupon. We always honor appropriately submitted Angie’s List Customer Coupons. The problem is that we were not contracted to do the work by the member. We signed an agreement to provide services to Myron Yutzy, his contractor. Mr. Yutzy was provided a contractor discount and an agreement was negotiated in good faith. A timely invoice was submitted to the contractor. The invoice amount was as agreed to and paid by his contractor. . If Angie’s List customers look at our past reports they will certainly see that there is no precedent for this rating or complaint.
