Budget Carpet & Flooring

I looked at the reviews for this company after we visited their store and found what we wanted for our kitchen. Even though some reviewers gave them average reviews, I really liked the owners and wanted to give them a chance. Everything went well with the selection, measuring, and ordering. We needed to be very specific about the date the floors would be installed because we are remodeling the kitchen and were limited on time. Two days were scheduled for the installation. The first day they were scheduled to do the installation, we expected them to show up between 10 and 11am. At 11:20, I called the store to find out why the installers hadn't shown up. The lady who answered the phone said she had heard there was a problem and she would call me back to tell me what was happening. I waited 20 minutes for her to call back. Finally, I called again. She seemed like she had forgotten to call after she got the information that the installer had a medical emergency and would let us know when and if the installer was coming that day. Over half a day was wasted waiting when we could have been working on other things in the kitchen. The next day the installers came and finished the job in about 5 hours even though both were having health issues. If I had known it would only take a day, I would have had the other day to get more done. The floors turned out very nice except for one spot where it doesn't lay completely flat. We aren't sure if the bump is caused from the extension that was added to the room or if something else caused it. I asked the lady about it when she called to finalize the project and payment, and she thought it was from the extension. She said if we have problems that we have a year warranty on the work. Overall, I'm happy with the completed floor, but I was very frustrated by the lack of communication.

Everything went smoothly from choosing the product to final installation. I shopped around at some other flooring stores and Budget was the friendliest and most helpful of all of them. They worked with my budget and my schedule. The installers were extremely polite, professional and did a great job. They even set my bed back up after the job was done even though I hadn't requested or paid for any furniture to be moved! The floor looks fantastic. I feel I got a lot of value for my money.

We had hired Budget to replace our kitchen vinyl over the summer and had a couple snags with their subcontractors. Knowing that we were planning to do whole-house carpet later, they assured good service, product and price on this job. They definitely delivered. Nate and Garth did a great job helping us select a good carpet and getting accurate measurements. The subcontractors were on time, professional and courteous. We are very pleased with the carpet and pad we chose and the price.

No problems occured. Were neat and clean.

I have mixed reviews, but overall, would use them again: The carpet looks great; the men who installed it ran out of vacuum bags, so they couldn't clean up before they left. Once they left, I discovered that 1) they had covered a heating duct; and 2) during the removal of the old carpet, they had gashed a nearby hardwood floor with 3-4 cuts to the wood. I haven't a clue how that happened. To their credit, and the reason I would use them again, they were immediately responsive, completely refinishing the damaged floor. They were responsible and communicative.

It wasn’t the best experience. One of the reasons that I went this company was because it was a family owned local business and their bid was the lower one. I compared their bid to a bid that I got from a corporate carpeting place and their bid was significantly lower. However when we got into the process of installation they missed a whole room. Once they missed that one room the relationship was on their part and so they lost the money on it probably because they ended up installing a room for it which wasn’t the part of their original bid. But when I started asking them about the things that were apart from the original bid they just got difficult with me. It was just a little painful. They ended up fixing everything and I did end up paying some more in the end because they missed another area that was in a closet. Then I had to pay for some stairs which they probably figured it was finished underneath but it wasn’t. So it ended up being a $1000 more than the original bid. Overall I would say that it was $2000 less than going with the corporate carpeting place but it was painful. The job they did was good. I had couple of complains about transition areas which I addressed to them and they just didn’t give me a resolution like transition between carpet and tile. They fixed it as much as they could but I don’t think it’s the best. I wouldn’t use them again.

I visited the showroom and found a sample of carpet I liked. They were able to do the installation within a week. They were were very prompt and helpful.

Overall, it was pretty good. The installers and the initial salesperson were very nice and efficient. Initially, when they came in to install the floor, they were supposed to install baseboards. They did, but they ran out of baseboards. They were very flexible about coming back out to finish installing them. However, the lady I spoke to in the office was not very helpful at all and seemed to be very short and not accommodating.

We liked the idea of dealing with a long-time, family-owned business who had a good rating with Angie's List. Our encounters with the family who owns the business were very good - pleasant, professional, courteous and responsive. The big disappointment came with the subcontractors they sent to do the work, because to the customer, a subcontractor represents the company's name and reputation just as much as the owners do. We were told this would be a simple one-day Saturday job. We were also assured the custom-ordered trim would be available in time. The 2-man crew that showed up didn't know about the trim and didn't have it with them. After they took a break while the leveling compound dried, they found another area that needed more leveling. Since that would take longer to dry, they broke for the day at about 2pm. They came back on Sunday to finish, but still didn't have the trim with them... which had been sitting at the store the entire time. The crewman said he would call on Monday to schedule a time to do the trim. On Monday morning, with the job not done, the company ran my card for the balance of the payment. The crewman never called. I called Tuesday and on Wednesday evening, the one-day job was finally completed. We were without full use of our kitchen and 1/2 bath for 5 days instead of one. While the quality of the work was very good in the end, we were very disappointed with the subcontractors' lack of professionalism - from not having all of the supplies to not getting the job done in a timely manner. Each time I talked with the owners about this, they worked to correct the problem and were apologetic. They would not refund a portion of the payment for the inconvenience, but have assured me that they will "make things right" on an upcoming carpet replacement we have planned. I will update Angie's List on whether that happens. As long as they don't send the same subcontractors, we are willing to give them another chance.

I visited their showroom in Clintonville and Garth was very helpful in explaining options, showing me a variety of carpets in my price range, and making recommendations. I did quite a bit of comparison shopping (everything from other smaller shops to big box retailers) and couldn't find comparable value anywhere near what Budget Carpet and Flooring had available in a mid-grade vinyl carpet. The ordering and scheduling of installation went smoothly. The installers were on time, courteous, and professional, and the carpet installation was very well done. The only negative part of the installation experience is that one of our newly-installed baseboards ended up with a pretty large gash (perhaps from a box cutter). It wasn't a big deal to us since that section of baseboard is sitting behind furniture, but that piece of damage was more substantial than the typical nicks and dings I'd expect from carpet installation. Overall we were very pleased with our experience and I plan to go back to Budget Carpet and Flooring the next time we are looking for new flooring.

As noted above, my experience with Nate was positive; however, my experience with the installers was not so positive. As far as the work performed to install the carpet, that went well. My reason for the D rating for professionalism was that when having a casual conversation with the installation team, the one guy made a negative comment about a specific cultural sub-group which was absolutely not relative to the conversation. My recommendation to this guy would be to keep his views to himself when working for or speaking with a customer. One never knows the details of a customer's ancestry, political views, lifestyle, etc... I did consider asking the installation team to leave my home after the comment; however, since my experience with Nate was positive, I decided to let them finish the job and note this experience here on Angie's List.

I visited the store several times to look at carpeting. They were very helpful, informative and knowledgeable. I was permitted to take samples home which was a great help. When my decision was made they were able to be a my home within a week to measure. The carpet was ordered and available within a couple of weeks and installation was scheduled within a week. The installers were very careful with moving the large pieces of furniture and moved it all back when the installation was completed. They took away the old carpeting. We are very pleased with the service & the product.

It was a fair experience with Budget Carpet & Flooring. Nothing stood out. The price was fair. I may probably use them again in the future.

They were good people. The office staff is very professional and the overall experience was good.

They never told me that they cancelled the appointment and they were not very friendly. They did not communicate well. They try to be a budget focused company and so their customer service is bad. I would not recommend them. They did half the work and left and I did wait for them for three hours. The appointment was for 8 and they did not show up until 10.

They worked with us from day 1 to get the right tile. They let us take samples home to see how it would look in the room. The estimate was VERY reasonable so we decided to go ahead. The installers were prompt, nice to my kids and did really good work. Previously, we had them do carpet for us. They've never disappointed us.

They are going to put in some flooring in the kitchen and some more carpeting later. My experience with them was very positive. They were just absolutely great. They got the carpeting within a week even before we were ready .

On the whole it went well. After our basement had sustained a couple of water problems, we decided that wall-to-wall carpet was no longer right for us. I had visited the store for info on carpet tiles and learned that they did binding. We had them bind the 2 pieces from our basement. Because the carpet had been damaged by the water, they first had to cut the edges, then re-glue some of the backing, then bind. The 2 pieces were also not entirely rectilinear, so there were some funny corners that complicated the binding job. It turned out surprisingly good, and our basement looks and feels quite nice now with EVA foam tiles under the almost wall-to-wall carpet. The only negative in the experience is that, while we had been informed that the price would go up if they had to glue (we had pre-paid for the binding), we were not updated on the new price before they went ahead and did the work, so we did not have a chance to decide that the new price was too much for us. This gap in communication was just miscommunication, but I was a little bummed.

I'm mostly happy with my floor, it looks beautiful and they did a great job matching the pattern, the seams are invisible. There was a problem when the installers arrived and told me that the total removal I had contracted for would not be possible due to the water damage and the way the previous floor was installed. There was also a time issue because my mother was moving in with me and I had to have the work done before she arrived due to her mobility issues. I agreed to have them patch the damaged area and lay the flooring over the patch. My other option that would have been better was to have a .25" wooden layer added then have the vinyl laid over that. In hindsight this would have been a much better option, but I was concerned about my mom tripping over the higher floor when moving into the kitchen. As it is I can feel the patched spot when I walk over it.

Nice people, take time with you; reasonably priced, good selection, lend out samples.

My experience with this company has always been excellent. The installers were great. They were very helpful in helping me pick out the carpet and they came when they said they would. I love my carpeting. It has texture and it's really neat.

This was the first time I had used their services and everything went fine. We had great service and we are happy. I would recommend them. They gave an accurate estimate.

Dave and Garth were excellent salesmen and worked diligently to find me the perfect flooring for our 1917 craftsman. They used their experience to recommend the perfect carpet to handle our needs with children and pets. Their prices were unmatched and they explained the hidden costs associated with the big box stores (L & HD). The installers arrived as scheduled and worked extremely fast to complete the installation. They removed all waste and were respectful to our home. One year after installation and everything is as it was on the day it was put in Thank You.

They did a great job. They were able to do the job quicker and cheaper than the competition.

The sales representative was polite and professional at the store and when he came over to take measurements and show carpet samples. He did arrive 90 minutes late that day but this was the only inconvenience to the entire transaction. Several weeks later when the installers came, they arrived on time and the both of them finished the job in two and a half hours. There were no problems before, during, and after the job's completion. I would have to say everything went smooth.
