The repairman showed up on time. He got the job done quickly and efficiently. He was very neat and clean, making sure to clean up really well after themselves. He was informative and explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it.
Description of Work: I hired Hometown Appliance to repair the icemaker in my refrigerator. They also replaced the pipe that ran to the ice maker. They also adjusted the icemaker to make sure it was working right.

It was rather involved, but Joe was great. Our plastic water line had sprung a leak, causing water to accumulate in the ceiling of our finished basement. Joe checked out what he could see of the plumbing but could not see just how the line ran because of the ceiling panels in the basement. He told us where he thought things were and suggested that we do the research (i.e. tear out the ceiling panel and figure out the lines), then he would come back to replace the water line. We did this, which saved us a money. He replaced the line, and all is well again.
Description of Work: Joe replaced a plastic water line to our fridge with a copper water line.

Electronic panel stopped working. The initial repairman told me the warranty would be for 1 year. When a different repairman installed it he told me the warranty would only be for 90 days. Cost of initial service call was included in overall price since they did the repair.

We were pleased with the results. The refrigerator worked better than it has for a long time, and no longer frosts up around the ice dispenser. Altogether he replaced 3 parts, and the total cost was $10 less than the estimate.
Description of Work: He arrived promptly as promised to give us an estimate on our refrigerator. It needed help on the ice-maker and water dispenser. He prepared an estimate, discussed the problem in some detail. He was quite knowledgeable on this refrigerator (Hotpoint). He said he would have to obtain the parts and would return at our convenience. The time and day we suggested was agreeable, and he returned promptly as promised.

Great - Joe came and the sensor was not working so the freezer did not know it was not making ice. Joe replaced the sensor and said to give it 24 hours to make ice. The next day there was still no ice so we called and scheduled and he came out again and had to replace the actual ice maker. Joe was friendly, personable and we enjoyed having him at our house and would surly use them again.
Description of Work: Fixed the ice maker, it was not making ice at all.

Joe was the tech that came out and he was very friendly. He was efficient and fixed both our water dispenser and our dryer. We haven't had problems with either since.
Description of Work: We had to get our water dispenser fixed on our refrigerator. It was leaking and we had to turn it off entirely until we got it repaired. We called and they came out the next day. They replaced a valve and the water dispenser works great. And they also replaced a part on our dryer that had come loose.

The inside of our refrigerator seemed to be a little warmer than normal in the morning; I thought maybe one of the kids left the door open. Upon returning from work (JULY 3) I discovered the refrigerator was still not very cold and some items in the freezer had thawed completely. I called several appliance service businesses, but everyone seemed to be off to begin the Independence Day celebration. Figuring that it would not get it fixed that day, I emailed Hometown Appliance Service about problem along with the model number of the unit. I also ordered a new refrigerator ($1,056.81) - similar to the one we have - because I assumed the worst. To my surprise I got a call within an hour!!! Joe came out that night (night of RED WHITE & BOOM), had correct part in hand, and fixed our refrigerator. I promptly canceled the new refrigerator I ordered; which saved us money we didn't need to spend. Joe was professional and a genuinely nice guy.
Description of Work: JOE KNOWS!! I was convinced we needed a new refrigerator. I figured the cost of the service call was worth finding out for sure. I'm so glad I did! With the scant information I provided on email and phone; Joe brought the right part to replaced the defrost heat element; which fixed the problem. Having 3 kids (2 months, 23 months, 4 years) we were at risk of loosing lots of food (food's not cheap). With Joe's help we were able to get the refrigerator working again before the food went bad; Joe was truly a blessing.

They came out and advised me not to get my washing machine fixed. I think that was the right advice. He explained to me why he thought that I shouldn't. He said they were low on parts for my washing machine, and that if I got it fixed it would break anyway because it was old. He charged $45 for the visit, and I thought it was worth it.
Description of Work: He came to my house and told me that I didn't need to get my washing machine fixed, which was very helpful of him. He offered alternative suggestions as to what I could do instead of fix the washing machine.

A tenant in an investment property informed me their oven was not reaching temperature, so I assumed it needed a new thermostat. I found AHAS through Angie's List. They were one of the 3 companies I called, and they were the best at getting back with me and seemed the most diligent just from initial phone conversations. They agreed to contact the tenant and schedule service directly. They were able to make a service call the next day. They were OK that I wasn't able to attend, and accepted payment after the service call over the phone by credit car. Extremely helpful for repairs to investment property. They found out that the tenants just didn't have the knob on correctly on the oven, so I was only charged a $45 service call charge. They could have replaced a thermostat or did other work and charged me, but didn't. I will use them again.

The owner came to give me an estimate. He was very personable. Although I thought the price was high, he assured me that the parts were very expensive and the service call was minimal in comparison. He gave me the quote and I agreed to have the ice maker replaced. He ordered the parts and fixed the ice maker the following day. It's been working wonderfully ever since. He even sent a thank you note. Great company!

The experience with A Hometown Appliance Service was FANTASTIC! It is never a good time when your refrigerator has a problem. This company was the 3rd company we called and we got the BEST service! We explained the problem and Holly said she could get us service the SAME day (other 2 companies were booked up until Monday or Tuesday); this was a Friday. While waiting, Holly kept us informed of our status. She also called us and asked the specific details on our refrigerator so Joe would have part(s) if he needed them demonstrating FANTASTIC "forward-thinking!" Joe was Great! He asked if he needed to take off his shoes and appreciated I had the refrigerator away from the wall for him. He went right to work explaining everything he was doing. He checked all possible causes of the problem and gave me some things to try. It appears the cause was a "sticking" compressor switch. It is working now and we will call them back if he needs to be replaced. FANTASTIC SERVICE!
Description of Work: Joe, the owner, investigated the reason my refrigerator was not cooling.

My refrigerator wasn't cooling either the freezer or fridge parts. I called on Sunday, they called back first thing on Monday and the tech came around 1:00pm. He was friendly and helpful, but unfortunately the problem, a short in the compressor, is just not worth fixing.
Description of Work: The tech checked my refrigerator and confirmed that the compressor was shot. He suggested that I replace the fridge rather than trying to repair it. The cost was just for the service call, which was lower than many other companies.

Just before Thanksgiving my oven went on the blink. I called one co. recommended by Angie's List, but they could not come out until after the holiday. I called "A Hometown Appliance Service" and Joe was able to come out the next business day! The entire experience, from first call to work completion, was very pleasant - courteous, prompt, efficient service and Joe entertained me with stories of his ATV adventures! He fixed my oven (had the part handy in his truck) and came back early the next morning, as promised, to fix my long-broken microwave oven. Doesn't get any better than this.
Description of Work: Replaced the "igniter" on my gas oven and soldered a broken connection on my microwave.

I called around 2:30 in the afternoon the day the washer broke down. I told the person on the phone that it was not an emergency, but was certainly hoping that someone could look at my washer sometime during the week. (The last time I had an issue with my washer I called Sears since I had purchased the machine through them. It took close to 2 weeks before someone came out!) The person was very pleasant and told me that "Joe" would be out in the morning and that he would call me before arriving. The following day I received a call from Joe (the owner) around 9 AM asking me if he could come out within the hour. Joe was prompt. He was very friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and honest. He told me that my washer could be repaired, but the work would be major and not worth it since it was 7 years old. Plus, the model I owned had a history of maintenance issues. He recommended buying a new washer and a few brands to consider. I appreciated his honesty, recommend and would use again.
Description of Work: Joe came out to look at my washing machine that had stopped during the rinse/spin cycle. He asked me questions about the performance of the machine when it stopped working (i.e. noises, burning smell, etc.) then turned the machine on to listen (the wash cycle worked) and observe. It only took him a matter of a few minutes to determine what the problem was. Unfortunately, it was not the answer I was hoping for--the machine's motor along with a belt and other relative parts were malfunctioning and costly to repair. Service fee: $35.

Our expectations were greatly exceeded. Joe, the owner, came to our house that afternoon and looked over the problem. We needed two different size plastic water tubes and he said he would return the next day to install them. I told Joe that the Manufacturer's repairman charged me $28.00 for the GE part replacement tube the last service call and that I thought that was an outrageous price. Joe explained that he could buy bulk tubing at a far lesser cost. To his word, Joe returned the next day and not only installed the new tubes, he also showed me how to replace them (they get brittle from the compressor heat) and gave me plenty of both tube sizes from my future use! He only charged me $4.00 apiece for about six feet of each hose size. I believe we have found our new appliance repairman!
Description of Work: About every two years our GE Profile refrigerator has some kind of problem with the ice maker and/or water dispenser that causes water to leak on the hardwood floor and if not caught in time dripping into the finished basement below. Calling the manufacturer for service always results in at least a one week delay to get a service call and further delays when parts are required. Manufacturer also charged a gasoline surcharge that their customer service personnel could not explain at what price point it became applicable and how the price was determined. We decided to go to Angie's List and selected A Hometown Appliance since it was close to our home and had an A rating. Joe replaced two plastic water tubes from the water control module to the ice maker and the in-door water dispenser.

Sent an e-mail late in the evening when I discovered the mess. They called me back at 8 am and had a repairman out that afternoon. They examined the ice-maker, quickly identified the problem, but needed a part. Came back the next day with the part as scheduled, fixed the line and valve, and it's been working fine ever since. They were punctual, gave a detailed explanation of the problem, polite, and cleaned up after the repair. While here, I asked what it would take to repair the trim around the door that had come loose. Told that it can be difficult to get and expensive ($150), but after trying to re-glue it unsuccessfully myself numerous times, I decided to order it. Was told that when it came in, there would not be a 2nd service call charge. The next day a friend told me about a new glue to try. I asked if it would be possible to cancel the order and was told that was no problem. Should the glue not work, I'm going to call them again to re-order and repair the trim.

I was extremely pleased with the service I received.
Description of Work: Dryer - replaced a belt. Refrigerator had a leak. What he replaced the first time did not do the trick, so he took another look. He then had to contact a friend who works for the manufacturer. A new part was ordered, he put it on and now there is no leak. Joe (the repairman) brought his son, Steve, with him the first couple of times. Joe would explain to Steve various aspects of his work/repair. It was interesting listening to Joe talk to his son about the work that was being performed. Joe kept coming back until it was fixed correctly and made that extra effort by contracting his friend who works for the manufacturer.
