I have an older home with a slate roof, and they specialize in slate. They looked at my roof, and helped me one Winter when it was really bad. They put stuff in my gutters to keep the water flowing and from coming into the walls. They suggested the heating coils to me. I have been using them for 11 years. I originally hired them to fix a repair that someone else did. Someone before had just poured tar over a leak instead of trying to figure out where the leak was and fixing it. Homestead came in and fixed it. Their prices are very good. I had another company come in and give me a quote in excess of $25,000.00 worth of repairs that they said I needed. They are very responsive. If they say they are coming, they will come. They do their work, it's done, and it's done right.
Description of Work: I am using Homestead Roofing to install heating coils on my roof to get rid of the ice and snow that sits on it during the Winter.

We have been using them for several years. The gutters needed service, and I needed to replace 4 shutters (50 yrs old) for 2 windows that overlooked the front eaves. I bought and painted the shutters to exactly match the others on the house. Their estimate included work I did not need them to do, and I accidently overpaid them, by check, as they were about to do the work. I then saw I had made a mistake. When I called them, they immediately recognized my number and answered the phone telling me a refund had already been mailed out. I received it within 2 days.
Description of Work: gutter cleaning, repair, installing 4 shutters.

After waking up to discover water coming in our upstairs bathroom ceiling, we called several reputable roofers from Angie's List to come and inspect our roof and provide a quote. After having 6 contractors visit, we decided to go with Homestead roofing. The reason; Adam was so thorough in his inspection of the roof (he spent 1 hour giving the entire roof a look over). He was very detailed in his recommendations without giving 'sticker' shock of having to carry our over extensive work on the roof. He was very specific in getting the leak repaired and also fix other damage/missing slates on the roof - all well within our budget. The work began immediately since we had the leak, and was completed in 2 days without any notice that the roof had been exposed and worked on. The craftsmanship of repairing the closed valley and replacing all the slate and copper is excellent, along with the installation of the copper splash guard. They also went above and beyond by repairing and tiding up another valley which was worked upon by a previous contractor a few years ago. Adam was very diligent in providing detailed estimates, calling to follow up with the work progress, and also worked with our Warranty company to ensure that we had prompt completion of our claim. First class customer service. Overall, the repair work and craftsmanship is outstanding! If you need a reliable roofer to work on Slate, I would highly recommend Homestead Roofing. We'll be definitely using Homestead in the future for our routine slate maintenance.
Description of Work: Repaired old slate and copper flashing in 'closed valley' roof, replaced missing and damaged slates, installed copper splash guards, and cleaned up poor repair from previous contractor. Perfect job completion, and no witness of previous problem.

The Homestead Roofing group continues to provide superior quality repairs and always exhibits complete professionalism. This is the 3rd time we have used them on different parts of our roof...everything from replacing slates to replacing valleys and flashings. The cost is reasonable and they complete the job in a very timely manner. Andrew and his group have always cleaned up completely after the job and have always respected the landscaping with the ladders and gear. We will continue to use them.
Description of Work: We had a section of our slate roof repaired and the copper flashing replaced. We also had a copper drip channel replaced around a box window. Small gutter sections were either replaced or repaired and re-hung.

They take time to explain things to me and make me understand, and I love that. They are pleasant over the telephone. They don't come right away because they are so busy. The wait time is about a couple of weeks unless there is an emergency. The tiles were expensive.

I called a week ago and they said they would send out someone to do slate repairs if needed. They patched our roof last year so I was hoping the patch was holding up. Yay! It did. They only had to replace 4 slates. This is the 3rd time using this company and every time I am pleased.

They come out every other year and do routine maintenance to our slate roof and they have always done a good job. They call us when it is about time for the maintenance and they come whether we are home or not to check it out. They are pretty good about letting us know if there is any damage or extra work that needs done.

The Homestead Roofing men worked hard during some very hot weather and did a nice-looking job.
Description of Work: Ice dams this past winter caused extensive damage to the ceilings and walls of four rooms in our house. Homestead Roofing removed slate up to 6 ft. above our gutters, then installed ice/water shield and new valleys, replaced the slate and installed new heating wires.

Original quote was part of a point-of-sale inspection done for the original owner when we were purchasing our home. We scheduled the work kind of late in the season, and they worked it in December. The staff and roofers are very professional, and they did a good job cleaning up after the job. We didn't actually inspect the roof because it is not visible from the ground, but we aren't getting any moisture inside so far.

We contacted Homestead Roofing for a solution to our ice dam problem. They suggested heating cables and said they would be able to install them within a month. Their price was not the best, but it seemed reasonable and based on the comments from others on Angie's List, they seemed like our best option. As quoted, they did have the heating cables installed in about a month ($490) and replaced 5 damaged slates ($140). However, on the day of installation they did not have an extension cord that was the proper length. They told us they would return in a few days to complete the job with an extension cord of the proper length. About a week later we received the bill, but still no extension cord. I called and they said this was an oversight and that they would install one soon. By the next day it was installed, but it appeared to be the original cord that was too long. Most of the experience was very good, but I do have a bit of a bad taste in my mouth with how the job ended.
Description of Work: Installed 140 foot of heating cables on rear upper level roof eave, gutter, and downspout and replaced 5 damaged slates on rear roof area.

Very well. We were having problems with leaking and Homestead was able to identify an unexpected source of the problem. They subcontracted one part of the job, which was not handled satisfactorily, but they advocated for us and kept on their subcontractor to fix the problem so that it was done to everyone's standards. This company has been around for a while, and their experience and integrity are evident.

Response from Homestead Roofing Company
This was not our masonry subcontractor!! We simply recommend a few masons that worked in the area, and the client hired this mason and paid them directly. So that is clearly not a Homestead subcontractor. People always ask us for referrals for masonry. We will be much more careful who we recommended in the future, and thank this member for his comments. However, it is unfair to make statements that are not accurate!

Work was fine, but felt pretty expensive to simply repair gutter and add some additional supports. (There were a few slate roof repairs too, to be fair.) But I needed it done quickly so didn't have a ton of time to look around.

I called and spoke the owner. He sent out his project manager. This guy went on the roof, came into the house, took off his shoes on his own, to see where the leaks were located, drew a map on the roof and where the tiles were broken. In a few days, I received an estimate and a contract and signed and sent it back. In a few weeks I received a phone call that they would be coming the next day to do the work and the approximate time. The next day they came, I was not home, they left a business card in the door so I would know they came. There was a follow up call from the owner to ask, did the project manager call in advance, was the leak fixed, etc.
Description of Work: They replaced 22 broken tiles on the roof. Came out in a timely manner, left an estimate, sent a contract, called when they were ready to do the job and came out and did the job and I never had to be home which was fabulous for me. The owner called to follow up and result. Excellent! Highly recommend them.

Our master bathroom ceiling had been leaking for several months. During that time we'd had various professional assessments and even some work by our handyman to plug the leak. The rain continued to fall inside and out. I selected 3 names from Angie's list. The first never came; the second was good. But the third, Homestead Roofing Co., was the best because of their added service. When Dan, their estimator, knocked on our door following his roof examination, he carried a tube of something in his hand. He explained that he had found excessive wearing in our 60-year old copper valley and filled the holes with this substance to gain us a little more time. That made the sale. We have found the company easy to work with, very efficient and clean, and thorough professionals. We plan to have the second valley done next spring. We grade them an A+. Berenice Kleiman. Shaker Heights, OH.
Description of Work: Replaced flashings in west valley on rear roof slope; removed slates adjacent to valleys; removed deteriorated valley and side wall flashings; prepared open areas and applied ''Ice & Water Shield''; fabricated and installed new copper flashings;reinstalled slates; replaced missing and damaged slates on remainder of roof.

EMERY, THE OWNER, WAS VERY RESPONSIVE TO OUR QUESTIONS. DAN, THE ONE WHO CAME OUT TO GIVE US AN ESTIMATE AND ''DIAGNOSIS'' OF OUR ROOFING, TOOK DIGITAL PHOTOS SO WE COULD SEE SECTIONS OF OUR ROOF THAT WERE NOT VISIBLE FROM THE GROUND, SO WE COULD SEE WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE. THEY WERE PUNCTUAL AND COMMUNICATED CLEARLY. WE WERE CONCERNED ABOUT MATCHING THE COLOR OF OUR SLATES WHEN THEY REPLACED MISSING/BROKEN ONES. COLOR LOOKS GREAT, LIKE IT'S ALWAYS BEEN THERE. WE HAD ESTIMATES FROM 2 OTHER ROOFERS AND FOUND HOMESTEAD'S PRICES TO BE FAIR - NOT AT THE HIGH END, NOT AT THE LOW END.
