 + 1 moreIt went very well. We called them in late fall (late October). They were accommodating, because in spite of being very busy, they were able to complete all the work before the onset of winter. The slate and roof work was done in November, and the rear porch/roof carpentry repair was completed by December 1st.
Description of Work: Needed to have 18 slate replaced; chimney flashing and some other chimney work; a critter cage placed on top of one of the chimneys, and rear porch carpentry repair.

I don?t have a smartphone and my job does not allow me to be in a state of constant availability with the internet. I would use them again, though, because they did the what they said they were going to do at the price quoted.

 + -1 moreWe've used them for years. It's a 100-year old slate roof. They inspect it and replace the parts that needed replacing. The quality and the service stood out. Our roof just hangs on there. They're prompt and they're business-like. They cleaned up after themselves.

 + -1 moreThey are very open and truthful. They are quite busy so sometimes, we do have to wait but we do like them. So, we do call them and they come as soon as they can. Everything is outside so we have no issues with the clean up.

This year I tried at least 3 times to schedule a maintaince appointment as the gutter cleaner had noticed a few cracked tiles. I did have one call returned with a promise that someone would come to my home - this never happened. On at least two other occasions I left messages and was never called back. In fact I thought that Homestead Roofing had gone out of business: I only realized today when looking on Angie's List that they are still in business. I was sorry that a roofing contractor that I had relied on in the past and considered reliable had changed their business practices.

He walked the roof and provided photos of the areas he proposed to repair as well as a drawing showing the roof layout and how he intended to tackle the problem areas. I appreciated that he was straightforward and told me he would prefer not to repair the membrane flat roof on the addition since slate was his specialty. The only disappointment was that he said he hoped to start in about two weeks and it actually took more than three weeks before his crew was able to start. Once they started they did work straight through until all the issues had been addressed. I was very pleased with the quality of his work and his ability to re-use tiles to avoid color matching issues. He also does not use retention hooks so you don't see them sticking up all over the roof. There is still some more work to be done and I am sure there will be some damage over the winter. The best recommendation that I can give is that I intend to use Homestead for the ongoing maintenance of the slate roof.
Description of Work: Slate roof had been left unmaintained by previous owner. I had several leaks and multiple missing and cracked tiles. Also the wood at the peaks where the tiles were missing had rotted away and needed to be replaced. Also the copper flashing around the chimneys had peeled away and was a major source of water penetration. All the copper was replaced with new and properly sealed against the chimney wall.

 + -1 moreThey installed a roof cable on the front of our house which required a plug to be put on and they didn't tell us for a whole winter and I just thought it wasn't working. It was difficult to get someone to do it.
Description of Work: This company has been our roofer for many years. They are very busy and don't get here very quickly for routine matters. For emergencies, they are more responsive. I called in June and they still have not done the few things I asked them to do and it's September. They are fairly slow to send out bills as well.

Every few years, they find a few broken slates that need to be replaced as no slate roof can last for as many years as slate roofs absolutely will if properly maintained . I have not had a roof leak in my home in 14 years under their care.
Description of Work: My slate roof is is checked once a year by Homestead Roofing making sure all facets of my roof are kept in the best condition as to flashing, loose, missing or broken slates and snow guards.

 + -1 moreWent better than planned. Started on time and finished on time despite the challenging weather this spring and a significant backlog of jobs. Sought approval on any additional items that were not intially quoted. They were not the and quot;low bidand quot; but they were the most qualified and I will insist on using them in the future. This company only works with the best people, supplies, and materials. I wouldn't be surprised if they only worked ont he best roofs. When you have slate and cooper roof work that you need done correctly, this is the company that you want to hire.
Description of Work: Comprehensive slate roof and cooper gutter repair. Very technical job requiring expert knowledge on a 1920's slate & cooper roof system. Not only did they fix the problems, but they also improved the overall system.

 + 1 moreThe repair was extensive as water had been entering home for some time due to water backing up under slates in the dormer area of home. Also flashing was needed as both chimneys leaked at connection with roof. Since the home is 80 years old the repair was way overdue and had never been done prior.I had several estimates but was shocked at most of the estimates as they were not as complete or inclusive as Homestead and were almost 3x the cost. Homestead explained that some slate will last over 150 years[ like ours] in fact since Homestead has been around 2 generations with a large inventory of material they can match quality of material/slate if needed, so the work made it practical and asthetic The crew was on time and went to worked for 2 plus days finishing on time and cleaning up daily. Since this is the second NE Ohio ruff season with the ice being very bad this year I am glad I had a quality team do the JOB If you have a slate roof repair I would recommend talking to Homestead
Description of Work: Slate roof repair . The repair consisted of taking off a valley of the roof and placing a underlayment to keep water from entering closet area and home. Tuckpoint chimney and flashing around both chimneys and plumbing stack, repair /replace needed slates on roof as needed.

 + -1 moreThe young man stuck one shingle back in and we haven't had any problem since but we haven't had any bad rainstorms either. The provider was very personable and explained what he wanted to do. He made a sketch. He gave us a list of items as part of the estimate. The price was high but they have done very good work. I did not get the work done. They were very busy when I called them. I would certainly ask them to rebid in the future.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from Homestead Roofing to basically rebuild the roof on our addition because we had gotten some water in the addition when there was a very strongly wind-blown rainstorm.

Description of Work: I called and left a message about having the tile roof on our new home needing some small repairs and maintenance. They called back a few days later and said they could not schedule me then but would call back in a couple of weeks. Over a month later they still had not called back. I found someone else to do the work. Very dissappointed in their customer service.

 + 0 moresee above. Things went very well start to finish, despite spending more than planned to fix the problem. They do a good job andthey stand by their work.
Description of Work: Provided a realistic estimate of the work that needed to be done and fully explained why it needed to be done a certain way. Although it was more work than I really had intended to be done, they were the only company that looked at the job and could fully explain the issues with the gutter, roof, and flashing. Althought their quote was higher than some of the others obtained, I was very happy hiring them for the job. The were on time, did the work in the middle of January, and completed the job when they said they would. They also fixed several other smaller items (missing slates) that were not apparent until they were on the roof. They were very responsive to questions and concerns both during and after the work was complete. I only wish all the other repair work I hired worked out as well as this did with Homestead Roofing.

 + 1 moreIn a very busy roofing season Adam and Katie were incredibly helpful, emailed back and forth with me about any potential concerns that I had. They both were very friendly. The copper tradesman was incredible! The attention to detail for function and appearance was great. I have waited a year to write this review given the investment I had placed. There are no leaks and to be very honest the new copper looks far superior to the slate that was placed on the addition, if only the prior owners heeded Homestead's advice.
Description of Work: Gorgeous Slate roof on original home. Homestead apparently was the maintainance company that the old owners had used. When we moved in the prior owners had placed slate on a new addition as well, unfortunately the pitch of the roof and the angles connecting the original home's roof and addition's roof really should never had slate installed in it due to structural concerns. The addition's slate was NOT installed by Homestead and in my discussions with Adam, Homestead had advised owner of problems in which slate roof on the addition would cause. Prior to our purchase it was disclosed there were leaks in the winter due to ice dams and in times of heavy rain in the new addition. These issues were due to the engineering of the new addition's roof, and the choice of slate in that section. In order to prevent these problems for ourselves we changed the affected portion of roof to copper to maintain asthetics of the home and elimate structural problems of the pitch of roof and it's connecting angles. We also had routine maintainance performed and new commercial heating cables installed.

Before we even discussed what I wanted them to do, they advised me that they were fully booked for the remainder of 2011 but would get to me as soon as the weather in 2012 would allow them to. I really appreciated that they told me up-front that they could not meet my needs immediately. Their honesty in that regard gave me a lot of confidence in the company and they lived up to and exceeded my expectations.
