We are pleased with them. It was reasonably priced; they did a lot of things. The flowering tree they treated looks better already.
Description of Work: We have a tree that is really a beautiful flowering tree that we thought we were going to lose, they treated it and have to prune it in the spring. They trimmed our trees, they sprayed for bugs and they treated a tree that is infested with some kind of mice or something.

Thank you so much for the very positive review - we really appreciate your taking the time and making the effort to post a review. I (Lauren Lanphear, ISA Certified Arborist and ISA Tree Risk Qualified) first came out to inspect your trees in July of 2010 and developed recommendations for an Annual Tree Health Care Program which commenced in fall of 2010. A Fall Insect Control Soil Injection is done annually to protect four (4) maple trees from leafminer insects and two (2) Ash trees from the Emerald Ash Borer insect. An annual Fall Fertilization application has been done for your Cherry, Crabapple, Oaks, Blue Spruces, Maples, and Ash trees. This year, we began an annual direct sapstream injection of hour Cherry tree for control of the Lesser Peachtree Borer. We performed some major pruning of your large Oak trees in November 2010 to remove large, hazardous deadwood and to provide sufficient clearances for your house, drive and landscape. In March 2013 we performed Winter Pruning on various trees. Dave Robinson, ISA Certified Arborist will be out soon to provide you with a quote on Winter Pruning to be done at our discounted Winter Rates in Jan-Feb 2015. We are grateful for your continued confidence in our services and will do our utmost to maintain your trust.

I mostly deal with the person who comes to do the job and he is very nice and very friendly. He seems to be very knowledgeable and efficient. I think their prices are a bit high but I haven’t shopped around. They did a good job for me and the trees haven’t died. The services that I request some of them only in the fall come to over $500 and to me that’s pretty high. These people seemed to know their business. They charged $86 and $6.88 in tax for one service. I pay in February and if I pay upfront they give me a discount of 5 percent which is not very generous. They certainly seemed professional. In terms of price, I can’t compare it to anything but it seemed high for me. They call ahead of time and if I am not home they leave a slip in the door to tell me what they have done and that they have done it. They are fine on responsiveness. They come at a certain time. I only deal with an employee but they do have an arborist that I have consulted with time to time.
Description of Work: I used them for soil injection and to control insect problems for the 2 hemlock trees. I have been using their services for some years now. They come twice a year to take care of certain things that I can’t handle myself; to protect my trees from certain disease that they might otherwise succumb to.

Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to post such a detailed and thorough review. Your feedback is sincerely appreciated. We have been treating your two Hemlock trees in front since 2010 for control of the Wooly Adelgid. Left untreated, hemlocks can be severely damaged, even killed from this very destructive pest. It as been a major pest problem in the Northeast and along the East Coast for many years and moved into Ohio during the last decade. The annual Fall Insect Control Soil Injection which as in previous seasons, was done in September and provides control for the 2015 growing season. The charge for this service is based upon the size of tree and the specific pest(s) targeted. We have approximately 175 clients wit this particular service, with the average application price of $321. I do not in any way intend to minimize your concern about the $86 cost of your treatment, but did want you to know that it is considerably below the average cost. Most importantly, your hemlocks are healthy and no longer threatened by this destructive pest. Your annual Tree & Shrub Health Care Program also includes a Spring Fertilization for your crabapple, magnolia, two hemlocks and the foundation plantings in front along with the large maple in back behind our garage. A Horticultural Oil application is also done each spring to control over-wintering insect eggs and scales on the crabapple, two hemlocks, and foundation shrubs in front. A fungicide is added to provide additional disease protection for the crabapple. The crabapple also receives two fungicide applications specifically for the reduction of apple scab fungus infections of the foliage. As you noted, we do offer our clients with annual Tree & Shrub Care Programs a 5% discount if prepaid in full at the beginning of the season. The average percentage yield (APY) for savings accounts in the Cleveland area is around .05% and only .03% for checking accounts. Although the 5% discount may not seem like a lot, the savings from prepaying is considerably more than what you would have earned in interest if you kept that money in the back and pay the full price for each application as completed. Tom Mugridge, our General Manager is the Sales Representative for your area. He is both a Certified Arborist and a Registered Consulting Arborist. The Plant Health Care technicians that have been to your property are also Certified Arborists. So you are indeed getting very knowledgeable arborists to inspect, diagnose and treat your trees and shrubs. I am glad that you are quite satisfied with the quality of our work and the health of your landscape plants. We are grateful for you confidence in our services and will strive to maintain that trust in the coming years.

It has always been great. I always use a prepay and I kind of pay once a year.
Description of Work: I have them on a kind of maintainance contract. They come and spray periodically two or three times a year my rhododendrons. Tthey fertilize my Marple trees and some of the trees that we have here in the property. I like to use them to remove trees and trim the dead branches from trees. I've also had them purchase and plant some trees to replace some dead trees on our property.

Thank you so much for your very positive review and your very kind remarks. We are most appreciative of your taking the time and making the effort to post a review. Your trees and shrubs have been on an annual Tree & Shrub Health Care Program since 2004. Annual Spring Fertilization includes your Kousa and Native Dogwoods, Beech trees, Maples, Bitternut Hickory, Spruce, Cornelian Cherry, and Ash tree along with all of your foundation shrubs. An annual Fall Insect Control Soil Injection is done to protect your Ash tree from the Emerald Ash Borer and your Holly for leafminers. A Winter Protection application is done each for to protect all appropriate evergreens from Winter Burn Injury. Each spring the appropriate shrubs, including your rhododendrons, euonymus and pieris japonica receive a Horticultural Oil application for control of over-wintering insects eggs and scales. We have been out on at least three (3) different occasions to address various pruning needs. In 2009 we planted the Cornelian Cherry and 'Green Mountain' Sugar Maple. We are most grateful for your continued confidence in our services and loyalty for more than a decade. We will strive to maintain your trust.

What a wonderful review - thank you ever so much! We really appreciate your taking the time and making the effort to post a review for us. Our ISA Certified Arborist, Dave Robinson came out on July 18, 2014 to inspect two (2) very large Ash trees. He confirmed that they were beyond treatment and recommended their removal. The two trees were removed in early August. Dave was back out to your property this fall on Sept 19 to look at your other trees and develop recommendations for an annual Tree & Shrub Health Care Program. The large Pin Oak in the front was given a direct sapstream injection of nutrients on October 10, 2014. All of your evergreens were given a Winter Protection application on October 15, 2014 to reduce the risk of injury from winter's cold temperature extremes. The annual Fall Fertilization will be done soon for your 4 Maples, 2 Crabapples, 1 Pine, 1 Catalpa, and 2 Oaks. We are grateful for the confidence you have shown in us and will strive to maintain it in the coming years.

Thank you so much for your very positive review. Tom Mugridge came out a year ago on September 6, 2013 to inspect your Ash tree and recommended a direct sapstream injection of TREE-age to protect it from the Emerald Ash Borer insect. This treatment was done on Sept 16, 2013 and is scheduled to be repeated every other year, with the next injection due in 2015. He also came out in June of this year to re-inspect the tree and evaluate its condition. We will inspect the tree again next year before proceeding with the next injection. We will do our best to give your Ash tree the best chance of survival. We appreciate your continued confidence in our services.

We've had no issues at all. Everything has been what they say. Everything has just been fine. We have not had any problems with the trees. We haven't lost anything because they didn't take care of it. They do what they say they're going to do. They do it on schedule and the right way. I never had to have them come back to redo anything. Their pricing is reasonable.

You have been a loyal customer for many, many years - since at least 1994 according to our records. Thank you for you very positive review and kind words - they are very much appreciated. You have had your trees and shrubs on an annual Tree & Shrub Health Care Program for 20 years, since spring of 1995. We have been providing annual applications of Horticultural Oil, Fungus Protection, Insect Control (spider mites, scale, lacebugs, weevils, etc...), Winter Protection, and Fertilization. We have also performed tree pruning as needed on several occasions. We are grateful for your continued confidence in our services and will strive to maintain your trust.

[member name removed], Thank you for your review. Since the work to which you refer was done back in 2012 I pulled up our records and also discuss it with Tom Mugridge, our Certified Arborist that first inspected your trees back on July 11, 2012. The large black oak tree to which you refer was adjacent to a new concrete drive that we were told was installed approximately two years earlier. When you called our office on 07/06/12 to request the inspection, you indicated the 2/3 of the tree was very sparse. Tom explained at the time of his inspection that with the root injuries having occurred 2 years prior and advanced stage of visible decline, the likelihood of recovery, even with treatment, was very low. When your wife, [member name removed], called on 07/20, she told us that you and her wanted to proceed with treatment, even with the low odds of success. We provided two treatments: (1) An application of Tree Growth Regulator (TGR) to re-direct energy from top growth toward fine root development, chlorophyll production, leaf thickness, and stress tolerance ($399.75); and (2) soil injection application of natural root bio-stimulants including beneficial bacteria & mycorrizal fungi, humates, kelp extracts, & Vitamin B ($238). The application rate and dosage for these are based both upon tree species and size (diameter). Oaks, as a species, require the highest labeled dosage rate for TGR applications. The large diameter trunk (33") translates to larger volumes of both the TGR and the Natural Root Bio-stimulants. These treatments are indeed fairly expensive compared to other types of applications, such as fertilization. However, Tom did quote these prices in his proposal of 07/17/12, so the prices were known at the time your wife ordered the services on 07/20/12.. I know that we are one of only a few tree care companies in the Greater Cleveland area that even offer these treatments. I'm not sure upon what you base your comment, that you "found out, after the fact, that the price to do the service was very high." I would be very surprised if there are other tree care firms that offer these two treatments at substantially lower prices. If you did in fact receive a lower estimate for them, I would be very interested in hearing more. Although we cannot do anything about the oak which died, we can provide care for the other approximately 8-9 trees that Tom looked at. A revised fertilization price, without the aforementioned oak would be $490 + tax. I do appreciate that you took the time and made the effort to post a review for us. And, I do regret that you were not entirely satisfied with our work. In recognition of such, I would extend a one-time $100 off the above price for tree fertilization, good until May 15, 2014. Please let us know if you we can be of further service in any way. Sincerely, Lauren S Lanphear, Cleveland's Tree Doctor Forest City Tree Protection Co., Inc. llanphear@forestcitytree.com

Thank you for taking the time to post a review for our services. There may have been some confusion from the renewal notice that was mailed out in January. We did provide the annual Fall Tree Fertilization last December '13 for your large elm tree at a cost of $106. As indicated in our renewal letter, your 2014 program includes not only the Fall Tree Fertilization ($107) but also the Elm Injection Treatment ($682). The elm injection protects your elm from Dutch elm disease and need only be done once every three (3) years. It was last done in 2011. So the annual cost for fertilizing your elm is a little over $100 and the annualized cost to protect it from Dutch elm disease is approximately $227. I realize that since the Elm Injection treatment has not appeared on your renewal notice for the previous two years, you may not have recalled that it would appearance this year. I apologize for any confusion or or concern this may have cause. Thank you for the opportunity to care for and preserve you beautiful elm tree.

The crew of three arrived on time and got right to work. Since the large tree is between my neighbor's deck and our deck, I expressed a concern for maintaining privacy. The crew asked me before they cut lower branches, to ensure our privacy. The crew also took approx. 3' - 4' off of the tops of a long row of arborvitae. The main crewman was sensitive to my direction and he did a really nice job. Also, the entire crew were very polite and they did a FABULOUS job of clean-up in my yard, as well as my neighbor's yard. We would highly recommend them and we will definitely use their service again.

The office manager on the phone said that it would probably be a few days before they could get out here since it was not a emergency. There was no damage, I just could not get out of the driveway. The manager came later that day to look at the work, however, and once again said that they would probably be unable to do the work for a few days I called them later that day to verify that I wanted the work done by Forest City and within a few hours, a team had come out and took started taking care of the tree. Considering the fact that there were a lot more trees down in the area, they were very johnny-on-the-spot. They were very professional and did a good job cleaning up. When they came the first time they did not have the equipment to pull the top up, but they did cut up the trunk so I could get out of the driveway. They then came back a couple days later and got the rest out and carried everything away. Someone came this morning and even ground up the stump.

The project was completed in a timely and professional manner. The one irritant was the three week waiting period between the request for estimate. and then another three weeks between order of service and when service is performed.
Description of Work: We called Forest City in late May to request an estimate on trimming a tree. Had to wait three weeks for someone to give us an estimate. We placed an order for service on 5/24/2011 and had to wait three weeks for service. A crew of three people arrived and the crew chief introduced himself and the other two gentlemen. They surveyed the job and laid out their equipment. Then proceeded to trim the dead limbs and fed them to a chipper. The area was kept neat and raked all during their tree-limb removal project. The three gentlemen performed their job in a professional manner and no one was injured during this potential risky operation.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a report and for your forthrightness. I'm glad that you were very satisfied with the quality of our work, but certainly apologize of any inconvenience incurred due to the time lag between your initial request, when you received your estimate and when the work was completed. Thankfully, inquiries and work orders this year are significantly up over the past 3-4 years. That is very encouraging. We have tried our best to give callers an approximate time period for when one of our certified arborists will be out to make the tree inspection. We are thankful to have a backlog of work rather than working day to day as had been the case too often the past several years. We are also working hard to recruit qualified individuals to build our workforce. Again, thank you for your comments.

I was very impressed with the work of Forest City employees. As I said, it was not a simple job. They had to bring in a crane, and parked it in our neighbor's driveway in order to get close enough to the tree. In addition, the tree was hanging over my neighbor's garage, which has a slate (expensive!) roof. Several of the largest limbs were rotten and the climber who needed to be hoisted into the tree by the hook of the crane even said it was pretty scary. They methodically cut and then hoisted the 5 or 6 very large limbs up over the garage and a large tulip tree before bringing the limbs down very carefully on our neighbor's driveway, after which they trimmed and shredded what they could. Several of the limbs had to be loaded on the crane's truck bed. Then all that was left was about 8 feet of trunk, and they cut it low and hoisted that as well. The clean up process was beautifully done, as well. The person I spoke with on the phone (Sue) was always helpful and very patient with my many, many questions. She was always responsive, and the company did exactly what they said they would do in a very timely way. The only thing I was worried about were the dark marks (like scuff marks) left on my neighbor's driveway, but those have faded and washed away as time goes by. I will definitely use this company again, and have contracted with them to treat our trees, as well as some mosquito protection services. I highly recommend Forest City Tree Protection Co.

According to your records, we received your request for a quote on 05/06/11 and our rep, Tom Mugridge, was out 4 days later on 05/10/11 to provide you our estimate. We do try our best to inform callers as to approximately how long it will be before we get out to make the estimate. If you were promised something sooner than 4 days, again, I apologize. Particularly with storm damage calls, we get inundated quickly with requests from our regular clients, so I would be surprised if our secretary indicated that Tom would be out sooner, but again, if so, I apologize. It sounds like you got an exceptional deal to clean up the storm damaged tree in your front yard.

He sprays tree's, bushes, and everything. They also do a deep watering of my roots in the summer to ensure proper life. They do tree pruning, and Sal is excellent! All of my trees and bushes have never been so healthy! I get huge beautiful blossoms on them. They are a little expensive, but you get what you pay for and they are excellent.
Description of Work: I thought my tree in front was dying, but he let me know it would be fine.

I paid slightly less than the estimate because they offer a discount for pre-paying for your service. The job went excellent. They were responsive in terms of the quote process. They gave us options with the tree. Originally we were thinking of having it trimmed. But they gave us factors and options that convinced us to remove the tree completely. The tree would continue to be a problem. We use them repeatedly because they are very knowledgeable about trees and their care. We have been having trouble with our phone line so we asked them to come as soon as possible and they were able to accommodate us. They did the entire tree removal in one day. They will return in the spring to remove the stump. They are very good at working with us. Their communication is excellent. Their crew is professional and knowledgeable. They are able to inform the homeowner with options. They also have professional arborists. They normally trim our oak and they can make informed decisions on how to trim the tree for the way we want it, for the health of the tree and the integrity of the property.
Description of Work: They removed a tree that was interfering with telephone and electric wires. They also removed the stump.

Fine except I wanted the chips and the men and office ignored that request. However the owner dismissed any charges of 60.00 I withheld. Then a employee refused to schedule anyother work. And that was some years back but I still and I've again tried to schedule them not being excepted as a customer.
Description of Work: I'd always had Lamphere on these two properties one my in laws for many many years. So convenient to So Euclid. The work was always good. But the last experience the truck went away with the chips even though the men who were working here knew about this and were talked to about this while driving away with the chips. So I withheld a 60.00 chgr for a stump removal until they would deliver or at least have a discussion. I had one with the owner who said forget it and then nothing was resubmitted. But from then on the company would be contacted for work and no one from there complied. So now I use Davey Tree and Lawn Service. Their area manager Scott Heims is so thorough but not intrusive or making work that could be done by the line people. So in a sense I'm disappointed with Lamphere for not working out my issue with me that led them not to come back. I have a big yard with woods and meadow that's around 2 acres now and being in the city I feel the old trees need special care. And that now is being delivered by Davey Tree.

Response from Forest City Tree Protection Co Inc
I appreciate the Member taking the time to share her thoughts and concerns about the work we provided for her in the past. According to our records, we last worked for the Member at her residence on Clearview Rd in Lyndhurst back in April of 2002 when we performed some tree trimming and removal work as well as stump grinding. Our records also show that we work for the Member on an annual basis from 1994 through 1999, with nothing done again until the aforementioned work in April 2002. Over the six (6) years we worked for the Members in the 90's, there was a consistent pattern of late payments, with 9 of the 11 services performed during this time period being paid 60 days or more after time of service. The last service we actually provided during this time period was a chimney cleaning inspection for which the Members refused to pay and we had to write off the $45 charge. Reluctantly, we agreed to do the tree pruning and removal work in April 2002. Despite repeated attempts to satisfy the client, including two (2) return trips to the property, as the Member explained, she did refuse to pay the full quoted amount of $150 + tax for the stump grinding work, and again we had to write off a portion of that invoice. Based upon the consistent slow pay pattern and our inability to satisfy the client, we have decline further requests from her for work.

I did not have them quote as Teresa (the woman who answered the phone) was very courteous and explained that since I was in Bay Village, it would be rather costly to have them come out from South Euclid (they charge point to point for travel). I very much appreciated her honesty and professionalism. When I asked, she recommended The Tree Company for us West Siders.
Description of Work: Just looking for a quote for tree removal on a pine that fell due to recent high winds.

They did an excellent work as they always do. They had four people here. They went through and trimmed a 100-year-old oak tree. The purpose of the trim was to remove any dead wood, reduce overall weight of the braches which would help both the tree and the house, and review the closeness to power lines and trim away from that. The basic purpose was overall health of the tree and protection of the property. This work is usually done once in every six years. They arrived promptly. They had a person who spoke to me beforehand and explained to me about what they are going to do. I asked him some questions and told him about a couple of preferences. I told him also that I was relying on them to make judgments on what needed to be removed or not removed. They then got into work. They were here the whole day. They finished the job on time. The price was the same what they had quoted. They were very professional and good. Te person that spoke to me was very good and really knows what he is doing. He is very good at talking to the customer. He did say that there was some additional wood that needed to be removed because there was some more dead wood. They chipped the wood and removed the wood. They also did a complete cleanup. They did a good job with that too. My house is in the place where they cannot get a crane, and they had to do the complete work with ropes. They got up on the tree themselves. When they lowered the branches, they were very careful about the roof and gutters. It is interesting to watch them work when you are at home as the only noise you get is when then get on to the roof. You never hear anything else. They were top calls professionals. When they gave me the quote they were here on time, but the quote was actually delayed. I had to wait for week and then when I called them to enquire I got the quote the next week. Then they scheduled the work immediately.
Description of Work: I called Forest City Tree Protection Co Inc to trim the tree from which the branch had fallen off. They did this basically to maintain the tree and also to protect the house. The helped me with the tax calculation before hand and provided me the quote including that.

I've contracted Forest City out on a professional level over the past 4 years and I'm more than pleased with my experiences with them. The General Manager Tom is very knowledgeable, honest, communicative and very responsive to our needs. This past year I used him to remove a 35' Silver Maple in my backyard which he removed without incident and for a fair price. Thanks guys!
Description of Work: Commercially - Tree trimming, tree removal, stump-grinding, etc. Privately - tree removal and stump-grinding - approximately $850.00 to remove the tree in my backyard.
