The two man crew was hard working, very friendly, and paid attention to detail. I would have them do work for me again.

+ -1 moreIt went well, once a bond was posted with my city and the city approved the plans, work began within just a few days. Terry held off on the work, worked around my out of town schedule, before work began. Workers were punctual, careful with the tear off and haul away, worked in bad and good weather as work was performed while cold and wet this past fall, were meticulous with their workmanship, even sanding down edges on railing, used screws and not nails throughout, corrected a minor defect in workmanship that I spotted (remember I am very particular), cleaned up and hauled away all scrap including the deck tear off materials. I realize I will have to seal the deck in the spring/summer when the treated wood cures but the cost was so much less than other quotes and I have a much easier sealing project ahead of me with aluminum balusters vs. wood balusters which was the most time-consuming part of sealing my old deck. Terry's crew was a really good group of guys, worked well together, were polite and listened to me when I had questions. Terry and his men did everything he promised and more. I didn't take photos of the finished product because the weather got a little nasty but I hope to add them later to this review. Terry has photos of the work which I am sure he would share until I can post mine on-line when the weather improves.
Description of Work: I received several quotes from various contractors for the removal of my deck top and replacing with a new surface, railings, a food bar (for food trays next to grill), and steps off each side of the deck as well as smaller decking into our above ground pool plus low voltage lighting for steps, food bar and steps onto decking into pool. My goal was to have a deck that would have more surface area (Had planter boxes and a larger upper tier deck removed with the project), a deck that would meet new building code requirements since my current deck was 25 years old and in need of significant repairs anyway, one that could more easily be maintained than the current decking but was also a safer deck for my wife and numerous grandchildren. Each quote we received in terms of workmanship and quality of materials "sounded" good. But, I did my research, did not permit myself to be rushed into a decision and did not make a final decision until I had the requisite number of quotes I felt necessary to make an informed decision that fit my needs. I was being careful with cost/benefit due to other personal expenses and chose to go with a far more reasonable cost estimate from Deckmasters. I did not go with the least expensive option, however. I also chose not to go with the more expensive and "so-called" minimal or no maintenance options because I not only found them to be hugely expensive but also questionable in terms of their quality claims. Not necessarily questionable on the part of the contractors offering the quotes but the manufacturers of the materials. I am not convinced that the Aztec/Timber Tech-like products, for instance, are as minimally maintenance free as claimed. In fact, in addition to on-line research, two contractors not involved in the bidding process for my project told me that from their own experience mold and mildew was an on-going problem and that their customers complained of having to extensively clean their decks at least a couple of times per year and the mold and mildew kept coming back. One who installed a deck with materials from a high-end manufacturer for his own mother also told me that he would not use such material in the future but would go with wood with aluminum balusters instead if he had to do it again as the hype for high-end materials wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. One quote in the medium price range was for a cedar deck which would have been very pretty but would have required the same maintenance, sealing of the deck, as the one I had installed from Deckmasters for half the price. With input from my building department and Terry we aesthetically and practicality-wise redesigned my deck. I was very particular with the workmanship and what I wanted and I inspected the workmanship for a couple of Deckmasters' customers (one of which turned out to be an inspector for a city building department who was very pleased with their several tier deck). I had the entire top surface removed, had a plumber come in and do his thing, closing off and moving a waterline from under the deck and moving a gas line for our gas grill so that access was easier and maintenance of both the water line and gas line was more practical.

Terry showed up on time for the estimate, and was able to quickly and easily give us all the details. We hired him on the spot. It went very well. Terry was able to show up within two weeks of us hiring him, and it took exactly the amount of time, and cost exactly the amount of money, that Terry said it would. The end result is a beautiful brand new porch, ready to be used.

+ -1 moreIt overall went well. Terry was generally very responsible. The start date that he initially gave wasn't accurate, but we weren't in any rush to get it done. The deck looks great, we look forward to enjoying it next year. There was issue where the custom vinyl awning type thing that we ordered wasn't there in time and so we had to wait for it to get delivered. Crew was clean and professional and kept to themselves.
Description of Work: I needed someone to tear down my old wooden deck and build a new synthetic deck for us. It was a 10x11 deck and I replaced it with a deck that was a little larger.

We altered the original design proposed and Terry gave us guidance as to the best way to achieve our goal explaining the pros and cons for our choices with the final decision being ours. The workers were pleasant, courteous, friendly and competent. They worked very hard each day and explained what they were doing along the way. Each day they cleaned up the work area and even swept the deck on the last day. I actually missed having them here after the deck was built. The finished product is extremely solid, no seams on the railings, or floors. It looks great and we love it. They take pride in what they build. I highly recommend Deckmasters.

No seams in the flooring or railings, except corners; the recommended metal balustrades are much narrower that wood, improving the view into the yard. Craftsmanship was very good - many friends have been impressed. Negotiated changes in a positive manner. Cons: there was a little language challenge with some of the workman, but we were still able to communicate (... access door under deck came out better than I expected, just from diagram - not words!),

+ -1 moreWOW!!! I'm at a point in my life where I am not easily impressed, but the workmanship that was performed on my deck blew me away. The total quality of work and the total attention to detail was fantastic. I could also set my watch everyday as to when the workers were do to show up, and every morning exactly right on time they would pull up in front of my home. Worked many 10-11 hours days and never slowed down. They were total perfectionists in every aspect of my deck and I felt like they worked on my deck the way they would have worked on their own. I would hire this company again in a second!!!

Could not be any more pleased. Communicated via phone and email. Workers were professional, asked questions instead of making assumptions. Once they started the job they worked consistently and efficiently, even around the rainy weather. We ultimately settled on composite decking because we simply wanted low (no) maintenance for years to come.

From the very beginning, his knowledge and craftsmanship was evident, as he gave us options with the deck that we never would have thought of, and that made a huge difference in looks and functionality. Both deck and balcony, as well as woodwork around our patio, were finished at the beginning of the first snow and ice in the winter, but that did not seem to slow down his group of tireless and friendly workers.
