It was the best home improvement experience ever. He told me on the phone his price and about how long the repairs would take. He does wonderful work, and in the end, it took him less time and cost less money than he quoted me. I would hire him again in a minute.

He was running a little late, but he called to let me know that he was running behind. When he got here he inspected both the upstairs chimney and the downstairs chimney. He said neither of them needed a cleaning and that he was not going to charge me. He saw a couple of spots that the other company missed which needed some mortar cement. What he had in his truck was too cold to work with. He showed me the spots that needed to be filled They were very small and he left me the cement to fill the gaps once the mortar had warmed up. I like doing stuff myself so I didn't mind having him leave the cement for me to fill the little gaps that needed filling. He could have charged me for an unnecessary cleaning and he didn't. He probably could have charged me for an inspection and he didn't. Overall I was happy with him and will call him out next time I need a cleaning.

Gary came over to inspect my chimney in the house I recently bought. He found that the fireplace is in good and clean condition. He also taught me how to use the gas lighter and other things. He did not charge anything, I appreciate his work ethics and would strongly recommend him.

The experience was great! I called to schedule an appointment and Gary called me back within 30 minutes. He was very accommodating with my work schedule. I told him about a brick that had fallen that I was concerned about. He estimated the cost to be approx. $100. He called to remind me of the appointment the night before. Gary showed up on time (8:00 AM). He was very straight forward, and he suggested that the floor and firebox be replaced and suggested another company that does that type of work. He did not think the chimney needed cleaning. He ended up only charging me $40.00 for the service call. He was even great with my dogs wanting to sniff him.

Gary has been doing my chimney inspections and cleaning for years. He's thorough and doesn't leave a mess. Reasonably priced and a genuinely nice guy.

When I left my initial message, Gary returned my call within 10 minutes. He showed up exactly when he said he would, and he was super professional, honest, and friendly, AND he didn't charge me anything for his visit. As he said, "I would gladly sell you a new damper, but it would be better to make sure everything else is usable and safe before you spend the money on the part." We will definitely hire him when we decide to tackle this project in the future! HIGHLY recommended!

What a pleasure - everything from setting up the appointment, to having the work completed was quick and easy. Gary came on a weekend (much easier for me) explained what he was doing, and made no mess. It was more like having a handy friend over to visit and finish a project at the same time.

Gary was on time, professional, careful to lay a dropcloth on my carpet to prevent getting it dirty. Showed me how to open and close the damper, which I thought was broken. Got an Angie's list discount. The price was fair before the discount so this was a nice added bonus.

Gary returned my phone call promptly and came on time. He was very polite and neat.

Before starting Gary climbed up to check the work to be done. He found that the job was going to be bigger than he thought and gave me some options. He was very clear in his explanations and supported my decision to have more extensive repairs performed next season. He confirmed that there would be no danger in waiting (instead of milking me for unneeded work) and gave me a good reference to get the job done next year and he did not charge me for the visit or the evaluation. Again, Gary has proven his worth! He's a great guy and I will definitely call him again when I need chimney service.

The few minutes that he came, he explained to us the situation with our chimney and we didn't actually need any work done, everything we had was adequate, so I would have to say he was honest.

Gary did a very professional job. He showed up when he said he would, put pads down to make sure nothing got on the carpet, advised me where there were some minor issues, and completed the job quickly.

I liked the way he did business, and felt I could trust his opinion of our problem. I liked the fact that he could fix our chimney the same day and time of his initial inspection.

He came when he said he was going to come. He had all sort of caps in his truck, so he would have the right size for my chimney. He was very personable and he did a good job.

Gary was prompt, pleasant and professional. His inspection showed no sweep was necessary, so he didn't do it. He alerted me to some potential problems, but they didn't have to be addressed immediately. I'm not sure about the price since I didn't get estimates.

Had 2 chimneys inspected and 1 of them cleaned. Also had cap replaced. Gary did a good, thorough job, explained everything well, and cleaned up nicely.

After our move to a new home, we called on Century Chimney to inspect the fireplace and chimney and advise on any needed cleaning and repairs, since our home inspector had noticed several missing bricks from the exterior chimney. The owner, Gary, inspected everything and explained that the chimney did not need to be cleaned or rebuilt, but that the exterior was deteriorating because of water penetration. He treated the chimney with waterproofer, replaced a chimney cap, and filled cracks in the crown. At my request, Gary also removed an old roof antenna that the previous homeowner had left behind. He did not charge for this service.

He was very personable and friendly. He showed up on time and even referred me to a great company for some roofing repair.

I had contacted Gary Spolar of Century Chimney Sweep to replace my cap that had blown off. When we moved into the house, a different inspector said both flue liners were cracked throughout the chimney and quoted $4500 to repair them. I asked Gary to give us a second opinion. He could not find the quoted defects in the chimney and said they both look fine and safe to use. This ended up being a $3800 savings over the original quote! On the chimney that needed the cap replaced, the damper was also broken. So he suggested installing a top-seal damper that combines an energy efficient damper on the top of the chimney with a cap. But in order to do so, he had to replace the top 2ft of the liner that was missing. He quoted $720 (New top-seal damper - $320; New concrete crown, 8x12 liner, and tuck pointing of chimney - $400). Once the weather allowed, he came out to complete the work. He was an extremely professional, courteous, and honest contractor.

Returned phone call promptly, set up appt for 2 days later, very polite, covered floors when he came in, worked quickly and efficiently, could easily have "ripped me off" if he wanted to and told me chimneys needed cleaning, but he was honest and did not.

Gary was very easy to deal with. He clearly explained our different product options, was polite and punctual, and very friendly. Although we just had the work done, and haven't had a chance to put it to work yet, it appears everything was installed properly and will serve us well for years to come. Gary was careful not to make a mess in our house (which is much appreciated when dealing with a fireplace) and receptive to any and all questions or concerns we had. We would recommend him very highly, and plan on utilizing him again in the future.
