Came out and gave estimate and performed work as promised one week later.

Prompt and very neat. Cleaned and inspected chimney. Great experience.

Fine except for his use of a "deodorizer" which made the living room smell like apples for days after he was done.

Gary and his associate came out promptly as pre-arranged and checked everything out, told us what needed to be done, approximately what it would cost and referred us to a company that could help us out with items they do not handle. No charge for the estimate and many thanks to Gary. We would be happy to utilize him again.

It went great! They did a super job! The job was done fast and neat. They even used some of the leftover mortar to fill in an area on my steps that needed it without my asking. They were great. Friendly and affordable, and very professional. I am super pleased with the work.

He was personable and very tidy and didn't make a mess in the house and did a good job. He showed up on time and was very responsive. He seemed professional and knowledgeable at what he was doing.

Gary inspected the chimney and said it probably needed more than just tuck pointing. He said he could tuck point if I wanted to, but it wouldn't last very long. He recommended a masonry repair firm. Then he looked inside the chimney and said it was clean and didn't need a sweep. He easily could have done the work I asked and presented me a bill, but instead he gave me good advice not to do the work, gave me a good reference and didn't even charge me a trip fee. Very honest, very professional, I will definitely call him again.

We have lived in our home for almost 10 years and I was certain that we needed a chimney sweep. It had never been done during that time. I called Century Chimney on a Monday and spoke directly with the owner, Gary Spolar. I was pleasantly surprised that he was able to come to our home the same week on that Wednesday. He arrived at the time scheduled and also called me in advance to confirm he was on his way. After inspecting the chimney, Gary informed me that a sweep was not necessary, explained why (we did not use the fire place that frequently among other reasons), and then suggested that the chimney be inspected every 2 years. This obviously cost less than I expected. I appreciated Gary's honesty and found him to be friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I will definitely hire him in the future.

When they inspected the chimney, the cap was not properly fitting on the chimney, and therefore it would not stay in place. He replaced the cap with a new one that would be secure, and he also checked for damage while on the roof. Finally, he cleaned the chimney.

Better than expected. We figured the problem would be expensive to resolve!

Gary returned my call promptly (I had left message on his voice mail) and set up an appointment. He and his assistant arrived promptly. They laid cloth down to protect my carpet and quickly and efficiently cleaned my chimney. I asked about repair work that might be needed because a friend told me that I had a crack in my chimney. Gary thoroughly checked for any problems and advised me that everything was OK. He explained the contraction of my chimney insert and told me why there is no problem. He also answered my questions about laying a proper fire. Both he and his assistant were friendly, courteous and competent.

Gary was late due to previous appointment, but called and informed me. Work done promptly and hopefully will not require further attention.

Gary returned my call immediately and made an appointment for the next workday to check out my problem. He and John, his assistant, arrived precisely on time. Gary determined what was needed, stated the cost and said they were prepared to do the job immediately. They worked swiftly and efficiently and did a very professional job. The job site was cleared of remnants of the previous crown and cleaned up completely. Gary told me the chimney brickwork was "like new", the existing flue screens would "last forever" and the flue tiles were in excellent shape. Gary was very pleasant and explained clearly what all had been done. There was no attempt to "pad" the job in any way.

I called for information and left my info. Gary called me back and explained that he was recovering from pneumonia. He gave me the name of another company, that he thought could get the job done sooner.

Gary provided us quick and efficient service in installing the chimney caps in spite of the fact that our chimney has round flues which are usually more expensive and harder to find. He was able to retrofit rectangular caps without compromising their performance. This saved us nearly 50% on what it might have otherwise cost. He also gave us a 10-year warranty on the work, giving us comfort in the quality of the job. Gary and his assistant, John were very professional and friendly. I would recommend this company to anyone in need of chimney services.

Fantastic from start to finish. Century Chimney was courteous on the phone, and scheduled us an appointment as soon as they had an opening. The guys arrived right on time, and had all their equipment ready. The actual cleaning didn't take longer than 20-30 minutes, but it was clear they knew what they were doing, and there was no mess. Further, they taught me how to work a finicky damper, and explained a few things about creosote buildup, maintenance, etc. Overall, it was a clean, painless, quick appointment with knowledgeable people. I'd definitely hire them again!

Gary responded promptly to my phone call to arrange the repair. He agreed to phone me at my workplace 20 minutes before he expected to arrive at my house so I wouldn't have to take a full day off work. He estimated arrival at 1:00 and was at my home at 12:55 (after phoning as planned). Gary explained that his company ordinarily does not work on prefab chimneys like mine, but since the cap was sitting on the roof right next to the chimney it would be easy to replace it on the stack. He did just that, gluing it down. He advised me that there was rust on the assembly that may require replacement for the complete assemble in a couple years. He assured me that I could phone him if the glue did not hold and he would refund my money and put me in touch with someone who repairs prefab chimneys. I wondered why I should pay $69 for glue, since no supplies were required. Then I thought of the advantage to me: I didn't crawl on the roof. I'd pay him again to do the same thing.

After explaining the situation, Gary referred me to Allen at Columbia Chimney whom he thinks might travel to Vermilion, OH. I appreciate Gary returning the call and offering a referral of another Angie's List member.

As always, Gary was prompt, sincere and fair. He came on time for our appointment, examined the fireplace, questioned me about the circumstances under which we noticed smoke in the room and concluded that the smoke guard device was not the answer. He recommended that we extend the height of our chimney. As one source for the work, he gave us the name of a mason. For his time and advice, Gary charged us nothing. We are glad to have him as a resource for our chimney, flue and fireplace needs.

Have used this company in the past and have always been very pleased. Always on time, does not perform services that are not needed, and very informative.

This company is very professional. First, my call to schedule an appointment was returned within an hour. They showed up on time for the appointment. Because it was snowing outside, they laid runners down to avoid getting the hardwood floors wet. I found them to be very courteous and informative.

Originally, I had contacted Gary via email. After promptly responding to my emails, I called Gary to schedule an appointment. He returned my phone call within 15 minutes. I scheduled an appointment and he called me the day before to confirm. The day of the appointment Gary was stuck in traffic. He called and said he would be at my house five minutes later then scheduled. While Gary was working, I explained that our house had sustained damage due to ice damning last winter. My husband and I had been working to clear the gutters to prevent the problem from reoccurring. I indicated that there was one small part of the gutter that we could not reach and asked if Gary would be willing to do it for us. Gary indicated that cleaning gutters is not part of his service. After reviewing the pitch of the roof Gary acknowledged that it was dangerous and my husband could get hurt on the ladder. Gary and his helper cleared a small portion of my gutter.
