Verne & Ellsworth Hann

I've been using him for 20 or 30 years. If I'm still using them, I'd rate them highly. If I don't rate them highly I'm not using them anymore. I'm planning to call them off for my furnace pretty soon.

They were respectful and did good work.

They come in when they say they will. They say what they will do and they do it. If it is an emergency, the come right away. They were pricey.

Great! From the beginning, before we even decided to go with this company, Bill Hann, the owner, provided a lot of information, and was very patient explaining technical details and answering questions. Also, he was easy to communicate with, and promptly responded whether I left a voice mail, email or text message. From this, I gained a lot of confidence in him and the company generally. The installers were equally articulate, helpful and competent, plus they were conscious about protecting the floors and minimizing the chaos. We are very happy we followed Bill's advice and will continue doing so for what we hope to be a very long time.

Their price is okay. I usually get a flyer or something. That's a special discount. They say it is and that's when I do it. The quality is good.

Verne & Ellsworth Hann installed central A/C in my large 1927 Shaker Heights colonial with a two-story addition built in the 40s. Bill is an excellent communicator. Once he explained the less expensive approaches proposed by two competitors vs. his recommendation, the choice was clear. The price was fair for a major undertaking, and Bill was 'upfront' about the limitations in retrofitting an old house; we knew what to expect. Bill was on-site early and as needed to ensure the install was proceeding per his specifications and standards. The team was outstanding - considerate, pleasant guys who were a delight to have around for roughly two weeks. Several years ago, Bill's team replaced our old boiler with a two boiler system, creating zoned heating which we love. We're glad we stuck with Verne & Ellsworth Hann!

After getting 6 estimates, the clear choice for us was Verne & Ellsworth Hann. Bill Hann gave us a reasonable estimate and a great deal when we added a new furnace. No pressure to do both, mind you. I pursued this option. I also like the fact that this is a local, family-owned company. They will be around for service when needed. Very happy with this decision.

Bill did an amazing job of not only replacing the boiler but in recognizing that the boiler is just one piece of a big system. It happened that our old house had many pipes and valves that were not working properly, with the result that the whole heating system was very inefficient. Of course we did not know that--nor did the other companies that gave us quotes for the job. With basically the same cost of the other quotes, Bill and his crew were able to replace the radiator and fix these other problems. Most notably, the strong (and very annoying) clunk noises that would come whenever the heating system started (which we assumed were inevitable since we bought the house 10 years ago) are now gone! The company was very professional in terms of explaining us the work to be done. They were always on time and there was no hiccups at all during the installation and later fine tunes. We are thoroughly impressed with their work.

They made sure we would have heat by the evening of the first day. They were all professional and did a great job.

They gave a a quote with three options for furnace, and they came out and had it installed in just one day. Looks and works great. Should be more energy efficient than old one that died. Very happy with service and system. With these guys you know job will be done right.

I use the word partner deliberately because our interactions with them have become high trust conversations on the best direction for our home heating and cooling needs. While the nature of the work is often very expensive, we have felt comfortable that the price being extended is as competitive as they can provide and would quickly recommend them to others.

They come out twice yearly to our home, and have for several years, to check the Heating and AC units. We find them to be very professional and easy to work with. They are very good at what they do.

I discovered the leak at 12:30 pm, called Verne & Ellsworth Hann at 1 pm, and had a new water heater by 3 pm. I was astonished by how punctual and efficient the service was and am very pleased with the installed water heater. This is in direct opposition to the experiences I have had with other plumbers! There could have been a little more clean up, but considering the flood in the basement and the clutter, that is a small price to pay for such good work. The cost was on the high end, but you get what you pay for!

Every person I had to deal with at the company from scheduling, estimating, service and installation were very professional and friendly. Highly recommend and would refer the company to anyone. I have used them for the past 4 years for necessary repairs before replacing the boiler. Excellent Job! Punctual, professional, friendly, cleaned up all areas after they were completed.

In short: $300 for an hour's labor, no diagnosis, and furnace failed within hours of the tech leaving. The whole story: I moved into a older house in October, understanding the furnace was old. When I first moved in, I had Verne & Ellsworth Hann perform a tune up and inspection on the furnace. At that time, they didn't recommend any repairs, but told me that the furnace was old and I should consider replacing it. Throughout most of the winter, the furnace had been working properly. About a month ago, the furnace began having problems. Occasionally, the furnace would come on, the blower would start, but it would fail to ignite. Sometimes, I would come home from work or wake up in the morning and the house would be 40 degrees. When I would reset the furnace, it came back on, and it worked for a day or so. If I notice the furnace fails, I can reset it before the house gets too cold and everything works fine. Sure enough, when tech came, the furnace was working properly. He was unable to duplicate the failure, so he couldn't diagnose the problem. I get that. He can't tell me what is wrong if he can't get it to fail. I totally get it. The tech replaced the filter, cleaned the pilot, cleaned the flame sensor, and oiled the motor. He was here for about an hour. He performed the same tune up that was performed (or should have been performed) in October when they came out before. $300 seems like a lot for an hour's labor, without diagnosing the problem, and performing the same job that they performed for $100 a few months ago. Update: Furnace failed within hours of the tech leaving my house. The services provided were entirely useless.

When our central a/c unit stopped working in the summer, we were referred to Verne & Ellsworth Hann. They were very professional and responded in a timely manner. They explained clearly to my husband that the furnace and a/c unit were actually incompatible, and provided different options of how to get our a/c working again. They were honest with their opinions, and gave estimates of the different work they could do. We chose to replace only our 10-year old a/c unit with one that was compatible with the 2-year old furnace. They also replaced and repaired the ducts in the basement with materials that would be efficient and would last over time. We were very happy with the service they provided.

The did an excellent job as always. Thought the price was reasonable for what I had to have done. I will be using them again.

The office is conveniently located close to my house, the technician was timely and thorough, and he communicated well.

It went very well. They install Carrier. Everything was explained clearly. I got to make choices based on product features. I was given several estimates with several choices . I signed the contact and asked to be scheduled as soon as possible. They were able to do this within a week. They came early and worked a day and a half steadily. They totally cleaned up and carried away all the debris. I now have good energy efficient furnace. Verne & Ellsworth Hann, Inc. have also installed a water heater and a gas through the wall room heater. They chose the equipment, which are both very energy efficient and have been working without problems.

We just moved into a new house and the 30+ year old steam boiler for heat was cycling on and off every 30 seconds when the heat was running, and the pressure gauge was broken on the front. Hann sent someone quickly and the technician was very professional and explained everything while inspecting the boiler and fixing the controls and replacing a leaking/corroded sight glass. He made recommendations on other parts that might need replacement, did a general safety check considering the boiler is pretty old and I don't know when it was last serviced and helped give me the basics of steam heat, which we have not had in a house before. He was good about telling me what was a true concern vs what I didn't need to worry about. Overall a good experience and it went better than I had hoped for.

We had a problem with our humidifier in our furnace and they were there within 14 hours and fixed it.

We had our steam heat boiler replaced recently by Verne & Ellsworth Hann. The old boiler was corroded and leaking beyond repair. I?m very pleased with the installation of the new boiler. The quality of the workmanship and parts is high. The problems with our old system were expertly diagnosed by Bill Hann and he then designed a retrofit that has exceeded my expectations. There is an improved boiler design, super sensitive steam pressure control option, better piping to the boiler and a battery backup option to keep heat running in case of a power outage (which is an advantage that steam systems can have due to low electricity requirements). Bill was thoughtful about our needs and provided a very reasonable estimate and timetable and followed through without a problem. The technicians were conscientious about keeping things clean and were very professional about all aspects of their work. We also had a new hot water heater installed by Verne & Ellsworth Hann a couple years ago which was a quality job. I highly recommend this company for HVAC and hot water needs as my experience of their level of expertise and quality of work has been excellent and the price was very reasonable.
