THE STUMP GUY

The guys were very friendly, knowledgeable and personable. They came out to do the estimate in the evening on 3-27. I received a written estimate that ended up being $1000 less then other estimates I had received. They said it would be a full days work. When I called them back to schedule it on 4-14 I left a message during the day. I got a call back in the evening. They said they could come out the next day. They arrived at 8 am on 4-15 and started working. They were almost done by the time work called me and I had to leave around 11:00 am. I originally wanted to delay work because I needed to transfer money between accounts and that would take a couple days, but they were flexible and left me an invoice to pay once the money transfers. They cleaned up great like they were never here. Great guys to work with. I would recommend them in a heartbeat.

I ended up calling another company and never heard back still from The Stump Guy. I could not recommend them.

Their service was great and they were very tidy and cleaned up after themselves. You'd never even know they were here. All of the employees are nice people. Their pricing is great I thought they under charged me so I tipped them extra.

Great. The job was completed quickly and they did a great job. Clean up was done really well. We'll be calling soon to get the rest of the tree taken out.

They came out on a Monday and did a great job. I called them 2 weeks ago and had some clean up that needed done for Fall clean up and have never heard back from them and I am very disappointed. They were great the first time they were out and now since they have not called me back for more work, I would not recommend them.

A few days after a major, major windstorm that came through Cincinnati, we realized that a large Ash tree behind our house had split at a fork in the tree, with one of the large limbs coming out of the fork leaning toward our house. By then, every tree service in Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky was backed up with weeks worth of work, and I had a very difficult time getting anyone who would even come give me an estimate. Rod Goldberg was the first person who I could get to come to my house after probably 12 to 14 calls to others. He agreed to come only because I told him it was an emergency and he came after a full day's work at about 8:30 that night. Because of the risk of the limb falling on my house, he agreed to come back the next day to take care of it -- even though he had weeks of other work already scheduled. Subsequently, because I was pleased that he took care of us so promptly and had done a good job, I called him back to take down two more trees.

He did a great job removing the trees. However, we have had an impossible time getting him to return to grind out the stumps. He has simply failed to show up, broken appointment after broken appointment.

After weeks of trying to get this small job on the radar of larger tree service companies, I called the Stump Guy. He came by later that afternoon, gave me a fair price and got to work. Two hours later, the job was done, with all the debris neatly raked and bagged. Despite encountering a problem with the buried stump that extended the time needed to complete the job, he stuck to his price (although I gave him a "bonus" for his work). Also, his price was 2 or 3 time lower than had been quoted by other providers.

He was most agreeable, polite, did what he was suppose to do and a little bit more.

Very wonderful. He is great and I would definitely call again if I need this service.

Instead of returning a call I left on the company's answering machine, the owners and an employee knocked on my door unexpectedly at 9:15 PM two days later. I received a verbal estimate that same evening, and the work was scheduled for the following Saturday. When they had not shown up by 11:00 AM that day, I called to ask if they still expected to be there. Their truck had broken down, so the job was rescheduled for the following week. The owners and two employees showed up, and made quick work of removing the small trees and their stumps. Before leaving for another job, the owners explained that their employees would be taking care of trimming the large tree. They told me I could give a check to their employee when the job was finished, but because I had known one of them (an owner) for a number of years, I wrote the check before they left. The trimmer was amazing the way he maneuvered from branch to branch using only a rope. While he was working, I periodically came out of the house to check on his progress. As the hours (3+) passed, he was doing a great job; but when he came down out of the tree without any warning, I was disappointed to see that he had not cut two low-hanging branches that were growing toward my neighbor's house. He was not happy when I asked him to do so. After somewhat reluctantly going back up the tree, he cut the branches and a stump he admittedly had forgotten about the first time, but not before he asking sarcastically whether I wanted him "to trim the whole tree again." I know he was tired, but I did not think I was being unreasonable. The next day, while removing the piles of mulch left from the stump grinding, I noticed that the exposed (above ground) tree roots immediately at the base of one of the small trees had not been ground out. On the following business day, 7/21/08, I called and spoke to one of the owners, who said she would pass on my message to her husband, Mr. Goldberg. As of today, 9/8/08, I have not received a return call, nor have the roots been removed.

They came the next day top give us an estimate. They were back to do the job within a couple of days. There was no damage to the yard or the pool. They were meticulous in the cleanup. I thought the team was courteous, friendly, and well prepared. Their price was very reasonable for the work they did.

They were very responsive, able to do the work within a week of my call, and this was busy season! They were on time, consulted with me when there were any questions, very professional. When I mentioned that I had a (large) tree that needed to be cut down, I was told that they also had an arborist, and did that work also. Within 20 minutes of calling, the owner (Mr. Goldber) showed up with the arborist, and gave me an estimate. They did the work that day. I am very pleased, and have recommended them to several friends. I will most definitely use them again!

Called on Monday, work was completed that Friday, although they indicated that they were very busy. They did the job that same week, clean up was exceptional. No damage to lawn, even though ground was wet at the time. Highly recommend.

We found this company on Angie's List, and based on it's excellent reputation, we gave them a call. They were reluctant to set up a specific appointment to come out and give us an estimate. They did agree to set up an appointment for Thursday morning. We called them the next morning to ask them to do the work, and they said they could be here in an hour and a half! They were on time and finished when they said they'd be done. Everything was cleaned up beautifully when they left. The only concern was from a neighbor who said that the tree scratched his truck when it fell. Rod said that it missed the truck or, at the most, lightly brushed it. I saw that the tree fell pretty near to the street and the truck in question, but I did not see whether it made contact with the truck. This was a tricky tree to get down -- they had to cut it down in pieces to avoid the house, power lines, and the street -- and it sounds like the neighbor was being a bit over concerned.

Mr. Goldberg and his wife and another person (I forget his name) came out Saturday morning and removed the tree and took out the stump, They were all very friendly and professional and did a great job. They removed all of the tree and the stump and cleaned up the whole front yard, Mrs. Goldberg even raked the whole front yard and did a great job. I am certainly going to hire them again this summer to do other tree and yard work for me. After dealing with Roofers and Painters for the past six months and not feeling comfortable with them, Mr. Goldbergs company is a breath of fresh air to deal with. I highly recommend this company.

Excellent work and completed very quickly.

The arborists were very quick and efficient. They left the area in pristine condition.

Rod's a very nice guy, and overall, they did a good job. I would use him again. They were prompt, not only for the estimate, but for the actual work. My only complaint is that I warned Rod twice that my backyard neighbors are very particular about their yard. Two of the stumps were near the border of our yard, and our neighbor's yard. Ron took his stump grinding machine through their yard to try getting to the two stumps. In Ron's defense, he thought this was a better approach, because he was afraid of hurting bushes on our side of the stumps. Minor damage was done to the grass while approaching the stumps from our neighbor's side. The grass may even be on our property, but I wish he hadn't tried that route. Other than that, a great job.

I cannot say how impressed we are with the professionalism of Rod and his crew. I called for an estimate and they came out the very next day, giving me a very reasonable quote as well as showing me how extremely knowledgeable they are about tree care, maintenance, species, etc. They were able to come back and complete all the work the very next day. They did a beautiful job and a very thorough clean-up. We have had poor experiences in the past with others, as well as extremely high estimates, and so had been putting off this work. But Rod and his crew were amazing, and the only thing we are sorry about is that we did not find them sooner. A hearty thank you to Angie's List, for helping us find such a gem of a company!

We needed to have two trees removed because they were growing over the house. We contacted Rod Goldberg and he stopped by later the same day and gave us an estimate. The estimate was considerably lower then several other ones we had from other companies. Rod scheduled the work on the following Friday, showed up on time with his crew, and did a really good job removing the trees, without any damage to the root of the house. He also removed all the stumps we had in our yard and several large bushes. They cleaned up the yard afterwards. We were extremely pleased with the quality of the work. Rod and his crew are very professional and nice to work with. Based on the work Rod Goldberg did for us, I would highly recommend his services to others. We will not hesitate to use them again.

Although I never met Rod in person he's been doing a great job taking care of my grass. He was very responsive when I needed a different cutting time or day. Thank you Rod.

Rod was extremely customer focused and quality focused. He was very prompt, and workers had strong work ethic. Work was done very well and he even came back to trim a couple more shrubs not originally in the plan. Great job.

Rod is very prompt when it comes to keeping his appointments. Should weather or other factors cause him to be unable to be there, he will call you.

A+. Excellent! He even came over with his crew to give an estimate. He cut up & took away the tree as scheduled and returned later after the snow was gone & it was dry enough for his equipment to go in our backyard to grind the stump. He took extra care to clean up the yard,too.
