Riverside called us and informed us the generator was on it's way. The installers came out to remove the old system and to put in the new system. They also worked well with the plumbing company. They followed all of the procedures and everything went perfect. They kept us informed and we happy and thrilled that they did the job. They are a knowledgeable company and we have a lot of respect for them. They also perform other work for us and they keep up to date with their training.

Having decided we wanted a whole house backup generator, I researched the quality and performance of the various brands available. A local general contractor told me that Kohler was the very best brand available; this was confirmed in Consumer Reports. On the Kohler website I found a list of installers in the Cincinnati area and from Angie's List found several with good ratings. I selected Riverside Electric to work with. I sent an email to them via their website and got no response. I then called twice and finally spoke to Scott McDonald who is the sales rep handling generators and arranged a visit. He did not arrive as promised but when I did reach him he said an emergency had prevented him from getting to my house. We rescheduled for two days later. Scott arrived as promised on the second date and was very knowledgeable about generator sizing and location restrictions. I had told him during our initial phone call that I wanted a Kohler generator and as he was leaving told him that again. He told me that Riverside could provide a Kohler and that it had a longer warranty than a Generac but that it would be about $2,000 more than a Generac. He also said that Riverside had installed many Generac generators and had all the repair parts needed and therefore could provide 24 hour service 7 days a week. He said that with Kohler service would be limited to business hours on Monday through Friday. I was shocked to hear this but nevertheless did instruct him to quote a Kohler generator. Scott said he might get the quote out over the weekend but at the latest he would get it out the following Wednesday. I then called the Kohler home office and asked about their lack of service. They told me that Buckeye Power Systems, their master dealer in Ohio with a branch in West Chester, was fully stocked with repair parts and provided 24 hour service 7 days a week, including an annual inspection. I then called the Buckeye West Chester office and spoke to their Sales Manager who confirmed their service program. I told him of my experience without identifying anyone and he said "that was Scott McDonald at Riverside". He said that this was happening quite often and it was very unethical. He gave me the name of two other electrical firms who install Kohler generators and we have selected Deyhle Electric. One final note, as of two weeks after Scott had promised to give me a quote within five days, I still had not hear from him. I called his office and left him a voice mail message that he did not need to complete the quote as we had selected another installer. So if you want a Generac generator, Riverside may be O.K. But if you want to a Kohler don't bother.

Brian and Todd did a great job. They began by installing the outside retrofitting of the electrical service and pipes for propane hookups. By the afternoon, they were make the adjustments to inside service, ran new wiring and completed installation of unit. They worked independently and involved us in decisions before they "assumed" otherwise. As a result, we think the unit will work just as we wanted it to. They completed the job in a day and even ran the vacuum cleaners inside the house and swept and cleaned the patio in the back. Very professional and thorough, but also treated us like we were important to them.

They were prompt and did a nice job. I spoke to them from work, and we detailed exactly how many items needed to be moved at the breaker box, and the work was completed. He also repaired a very minor item on the generator to help it start better, and he had a great deal of knowledge on my generator to explain the repair and what I need to do going forward to keep it running right.

Brian & Tood arrived on time, completely installed the unit and thoroughly cleaned all work areas. The job was completed in one day.

We haven’t used them and so we do not know how they perform. It was a few bucks cheaper and it was a different brand of generator. The interaction with them was excellent. They were professional. They explained what they were doing and how much it would cost and stuff like that. We would probably check them out or call them again if we need anything done in the future.

One of three bids I received, Showed up on time to make the bid. Contacted me by email once the generator arrived (this step took a while but I wasn't in a hurry), then promptly set up an install date. The installation went smoothly and quickly. I hung out at the house while they work. Then they walked me through the operation and maintenance.

We hired a company based in Columbus, Ohio to install a Generac 20KW back-up generator which runs on natural gas at our home in January 2010 after receiving a coupon in a monthly mailer. We checked the company on the Better Business Bureau web site. While they were not perfect, all complaints had been resolved at the time. When the installer was unresponsive to some maintenance issues after they performed the first year's annual maintenance service, we hired Riverside Electric in February 2011 to perform the annual maintenance going forward. A warranty issue with the starter arose before 2012 maintenance would have been due, and Riverside came out promptly to take care of the issue. In doing so, they advised that they believed the wiring done by the original installer to be faulty and not code compliant. Furthermore, the generator had not been installed on a level surface as is the best practice recommended by the manufacturer. Riverside advised us to obtain an electrical inspection of the original work by IBI and, when the work failed IBI's inspection, we would then be able to require the original installer to correct the defective work at the installer's expense. We did so, but discovered that the original installer had gone out of business. Riverside performed the work necessary to correct the original installer's faulty work. Riverside was not inexpensive, but the work was far more complicated than an original installation would have been. First Riverside had to undo the faulty work, and then rewire everything correctly. Our advice to anyone who has had a back-up generator installed without first obtaining an electrical permit would be to obtain the permit after the fact as soon as possible, and have the work inspected to make sure it is code-compliant. If it is not, then require the original installer correct the work now, before attempting to sell the home in the future when the original installer may be out of business by that time.

Scott McDonald came to the house, evaluated existing electrical service and our needs, discussed an installation site and provided an overview of the Generac options we should consider. Over the next few days we were in contact with Scott via phone and e-mail and made a final selection on the generator size and options we wanted. Contract required 40% down to order generator and get on the install schedule. Once the generator was received by Riverside they scheduled a three day install process. First day a concrete pad ( free with Angie's list coupon ) and the generator were installed. Next day the smart switch install and electrical connections were completed. Third day the propane was connected and the unit started up. After everything was checked out the generator operation was reviewed with us. Overall this has been a great experience and we are very happy with the results!

Riverside came through with a price that stayed within our budget. Dwayne and company did an excellent installation - from the inside of the house you would never know that anything was done. From the outside he made the addition of this large piece as unobtrusive as possible. A first-class company.

They were very quick to give me a quote. They ordered the generator and were here as soon as it came in. They were very professional and neat. They explained any maintenance that needed to be done. I would recommend them to anyone who needs a generator.
