My A/C unit was shutting down previously but I was able to get it back ON until Monday July 8, 2013 when I noticed the breaker was tripping and when I tried to put it back ON it was making an odd noise. That night we slept with the house's temperature around 82°F and next day we had a doctor appointment with our little one. When we got back from the appointment the temperature of the house was 88°F and my wife and me had to work from home. So I called Nelson Comfort around noon and the receptionist told me she will contact someone to be in my house as soon as possible. In just 45 minutes she called me to tell me that an HVAC technician is on his way to my house. The technician arrived within 10 minutes after I got the call. I just described the issue to him and he went straight to the problem. He was very professional, and showed to me the difference between a good capacitor and a bad one. He explained also the normal lifetime of the unit as a whole and some components. He also gave us suggestions of how to save energy. He fixed the problem within 15 minutes and also made sure that the system was up and running well before he left. I used a coupon from Angie's List of 10% that reduced the total cost to $242.00. I was expecting a bill for $150 or so, but considering that he showed up promptly and the great expertise and professionalism helped on finding the issue to solve problem really fast and knowing that my little one will be comfortable, it was worth. Overall I am very satisfied.
Description of Work: He replaced the capacitor of my A/C unit.

Fantastic! The tech was very courteous and thorough!! Spent a little over 20 minutes inspecting the outdoor air unit, and about 5 inspecting the indoor unit. He was the 2nd tech to come out to diagnose, and identified the issue as being a faulty fan motor (approx. $550 to replace) . What is great about this is that the 1st tech (different company) did a quick 3 minute inspection for the same cost but identified a bad compressor as being the problem (approx. $2100 to replace). I did had a 3rd tech come out to get a 3rd opinion, and he agreed with the diagnosis of the Nelson tech: faulty condenser fan motor, not a bad compressor! I will definitely use Nelson again as their inspection was terrific and accurate.

After I received my coupon I waited about a week to call Nelson to schedule the whole house electrical inspection. The person answering my call said they didn't have my paperwork and they would call me when it came. I waited two weeks and I called again and got the same response. I waited a month and called again and got the same response. I called several days prior to coupon expiration, and this time the person who answered said he was glad I called because my coupon was about to expire. This was on a Friday and the technician came as scheduled on Monday. During the whole-house electrical inspection that was covered by the Big Deal coupon, the technician found a faulty GFI. He said the normal price to replace the faulty GFI was $139 but he would do it for the price of the replacement GFI and labor was free because it only took a couple minutes and he was already on site. He charged full price. I could have done it myself, as I have done several in the past myself.
Description of Work: Performed a whole-house electrical inspection, as per the Angie's Big Deal. Also the technician replaced a faulty GFI.

The man came out to look at our furnace and found out a squirrel crawled in there and ate the wires. We had to replace the furnace. They were very efficient, friendly, and punctual. We ended using them again six months later because the new furnace wasn't working. They came back out quickly and didn't give any additional charges.

The A/C went out due to compressor wearing out. Nelson Comfort has a maintenance plan for annual A/C and Heating check-up. I had been thinking of buying this package anyway. So I signed up for it at this time; as a result the service call was not considered overtime and it gave me a break on the cost of the replacement part. Technician was very personable and efficient at getting the repair done as quickly as possible.

I believe I got top quality for the price I spent. They were great about cleaning up and I couldn't even tell they had been in my house. They came out exactly when they told me they would and nailed it on the timing.

Nelson came out to give an estimate for both the work outside and an estimate for the under cabinet work. The electrician said he could do the outdoor work the same day, but the two projects would have to be two separate estimates. He said he could take $50 off the total cost if we just did one quote for all the work that day and scheduled the install for the following week. I had no problem with that since the none of the items were time sensitive. It then gave me time to go look for the lighting we wanted under the cabinets and get the other materials I said I would supply to avoid paying a markup had Nelson supplied them. Nelson came back on the date agreed and installed both the outdoor receptacles and the under cabinet lighting. The existing under cabinet lighting were low voltage "hockey-puck" style lights. There was power running to both walls of cabinets, but the wiring running up to the cabinets was only for the low voltage lights, not for 120V lighting. As with any retrofit, there were issues including the difficulty of fishing wire through the walls to the j-boxes under the cabinets to get to the 120V circuits. On one wall there was horizontal blocking that required drilling into the back of one of the cabinets, but we simply covered that up with a blank cover plate and it isn't noticeable to anyone else. In the end there was one light we were not able to replace because of blocking in the wall and no way to make access to feed new wiring. Since the light had not worked there when we moved in, we just skipped that one. All the others we were able to have installed. Nelson did not offer to adjust the quote for not being able to install the one light.
Description of Work: We did two repairs. Please note the cost was mainly for labor. We supplied most of the materials ourselves. See below. The first was to replace two older outdoor duplex receptacles with new weatherized quad receptacles. Nelson provided the weatherized junction boxes and GFCI receptacles. The second was to replace the under cabinet lighting for the kitchen. We also updated the wall receptacles from standard builder grade to Decora style. We moved into this house three years ago and the old under cabinet low-voltage lighting did not work. We hadn't attempted to have it fixed or replaced until now. We supplied all of the lighting, receptacles, and switch plates ourselves. The entire project with all labor and materials for both the exterior receptacles and under cabinet lighting was $900. We used higher quality and expense LED lighting for the under cabinet lighting. The project could have been done with cheaper materials, but we liked the LED lighting and expect that it will be worth the investment in the long run with no bulbs to replace and less energy used.

I had gotten a few different quotes and the one from Nelson was $1,000 less than others... and their price is what I expected the work to cost before I got estimates from anyone else. They did a great job. The whole project took about a day to complete. They cleaned up after themselves and the new panel looks beautiful. While they were here, the electrician pointed out a couple other things that we should take care of but wasn't pushy at all. Very friendly and I will definitely call them again if I need more electrical work.

When the service man JC showed up, he made quick work of finding the problem. It was a switch that he didn't have in stock but noticed we had an extra one on hand when we converted the hot water to gas and was able to switch it out. He checked out both new furnaces to make sure the dip switches were set correctly. They were not. He made the corrections to allow the furnaces to operate at their highest efficiency. He also found a bad blower door switch set incorrectly and fixed that. Before he left he also made a recommendation to set the heat up one more notch toward hot on the hot water heater. We did that and all of a sudden our water circulating system began working again. They were wonder to deal with and will be the only call we will make in the future.
Description of Work: I was going crazy trying to get back the installer of 2 new gas furnaces and 1 new gas hot water heater. The first company ran some pipe that also was done incorrectly. Because I paid this installer, I was never going to see him again. I turned to Angie's List as a way not to go through the experience again. It could not have been a better decision. I called Nelson Comfort and from then on knew I made a good choice. From the first person Pat, I felt very comfortable. She felt Sorry for all my problems the first installer left us with. She said don't worry, your in good hands and I'll make sure you get one of our best men to correct your issues.. The first installer would not return to correct a problem, after the first week of completion when the thermostat called for heat, the furnace would not come on. My original installer told me to go down to the furnace and switch on and off the switch. While that allowed the furnace to work, no one wanted to stay up all night and go down every half hour to work the switch. We put up doing this silly fix for weeks.

Overall, I think Nelson service is very reasonably priced and the technicians are friendly and courteous. My only complaint is that we had to have a 2nd call back for each job (though it was free), because the problem wasn't wholly resolved on the first visit. On the electrical, the first visit out was smooth and no problems. However, we still had a slight burning smell from one of the outlets they replaced. I called Nelson back and they sent someone back out within 24 hrs to replace the outlet again for free (though they couldn't see any issues with the one installed the first time). We also had them look at our A/C unit. The first technician didn't see anything wrong with the unit. Yet, we were still getting error messages after he left. This necessitated another callback, which Nelson quickly responded to. Another technician came out the same day as requested and did find a major problem with the unit that the first technician did not find. Overall, I feel like they deliver good service but some technicians were more persistent and experienced than others.
Description of Work: We had Nelson come out for a few things, 1) replace some old electrical outlets that had a burning smell, 2) fix an A/C that was displaying some malfunction messages.

Called on Tuesday and work was scheduled for Friday. Arrived on time. Figured out why the one light in the basement was not working and fixed the problem. Moved a light fixture in the bathroom to face up rather than down. Originally, I wanted a new sconce put in a hallway, but because of the location and the work that would have to be done (floorboards removed in attic, etc.) to put a switch in I decided to just have a plate put on.

They were excellent. They were awesome beyond awesome. They were on the up and up. I needed to replace my furnace. The warranty was about to expire. I had the company that does my service work came out and gave me a price to replace the furnace. I got a second estimate from Nelson Comfort. The price was higher for the furnace so I went with the other company. I asked them what they could do for me for the hot water heater. He looked at how it was wired and he said he’d take care of everything. Next day, his crew showed up. Next thing I know, they’re taking care of the condensate pipes, they took out valves that didn’t need to be there, they did extra piping. I thought not only did they do the job, but everything that was in the area was done right. After these guys, I felt everything in my basement, the systems in my basement, were fine. They weren’t going to leave it until it was right. I can’t go back to them for my furnace for a year because I’m under warranty, but they will be the first people I call when I need something.

Two technicians came on time and proceeded to remove the existing equipment. They talked about the entire job and asked for our preferences on routing pipes. They accepted all of our suggestions. A third technician came later with the new equipment. They installed the air conditioner, humidifer and electronic thermostat the first day. They installed the air conditioner the second day. All of the work was done efficently and with our detailed knowledge of each step. They left the areas, inside and outside the house, as clean as they found them. They were a pleasure to work with and they met or exceeded all of our expectations. I will certianly give Nelson a recommendation to others who need these services.

We did not have any electric at our swimming pool in the backyard. The technician by the name of Rob Gennings who spent a couple of hours trying to find out what the problem was, said the grass was too wet out here and he would have to come back when it was drier. He came back when it was drier and he found the area. He told us what the problem was; it was under some concrete that was around the pool. Either we could rent a concrete, cut ourselves or we could rent one that they could use. We figured it out, to save money we would rent ourselves. To cut the concrete where he said the problem was, he dug and dug, and he could not find it, it was not there. Rob Gennings’s wife was pregnant and he could not come back. It was just the math. It was horrible. We had a mess. We cut the concrete up around the pool and with all the dirt it was a mess. They charged us $304 for the second visit and it was in June. The pool circuit from house to pool using underground fault locator and by using cross hair method I found out the center of faults for lines interceptive. This was the point, which was under concrete decking of pools, which needed a return visit of concrete sol in order to take this section of decking. In order to repair, he could not guarantee the break was under that concrete. The rough estimate to repair was from $300 to $500 but he said it might vary. I will never use them again. I had used them once before. They were rated highly by Angie’s services so we thought we would give them another try. They are the worst electrical company. For the first experience, it was something we had to do of the code. There was an outside wiring issue; it was found that it was the wires that were coming from the street and how they were connected to the house. The guy who did it did not do it of the code and said that no one would notice. They were horrible.
Description of Work: I used the services of Nelson Comfort - Heating, Cooling & Electric. The last time I used their services was in May. For one deal, they charged $1752.79, and for the other it was $304.58.

Response from Nelson Comfort
Nelson Comfort strives to meet and exceed every customer’s expectations and guarantees all work performed for one year. Unfortunately in an effort to save money, the customer elected to perform some of the work Nelson Comfort quoted and had difficulties completing or correcting the problems. This is why Nelson Comfort always recommends having a qualified professional perform any and all work on your home. All work that was performed by Nelson Comfort (Electrical panel replacement, fuse box in closet & new line ran for Central vacuum) for the customer was completed in a timely manner with no issues and passed all inspections. We feel this review was solely based on work the customer tried to perform themselves and not the quality work that Nelson Comfort provided. Nick Parker Operations Manager
