It went perfect. They arrived on time and cleaned up thoroughly. It took approximately 30 minutes or so to complete.

They were professional at all times. They thoroughly discussed the type of brick and showed me samples. During the repair, I was told my old chimney had not been high enough to meet code. The new chimney was built to meet code (higher), with a much better looking outline, and added appropriate caps and screens. After allowing the mortar to dry, they primed the brick, and after that had dried, they painted the brick to match the house. The new chimney is beautiful. They were as quiet as one could be doing construction on the roof, cleaned everything so one could not even tell they had been there and the workmen were all professional and pleasant. The crowing touch, the final bill was lower than the estimate. The estimate was about what I had expected and the lower bill was a wonderful surprise. They did not ask for a down payment, they sent the bill several weeks later with plenty of time until the due date. I will absolutely use them for any future work and highly recommend them to anyone.

We have never used our older fireplace and want to install gas logs. We hired the company to clean and inspect our chimney and fireplace. Ed arrived and was very polite. He covered the area around our fireplace with a tarp and cleaned the fireplace without leaving a mess. While he was cleaning, he had another crew member climb up on the roof and inspect the roof and chimney. I was very happy with the service they provided. We have also had them install our new roof. They did a great job.

I thought his pricing was reasonable. He was very punctual. He got the work done quickly and efficiently.

I called to make an appointment, and was able to get on the schedule pretty quickly. I was told in advance what the cost would be, given a 2-hour time window, and offered a courtesy call about 30 minutes before my appointment. This is important to me because it allows me to miss a minimal amount of time from my job. I received a reminder call, confirming my appointment, and the day of my appointment, I was called within the 2 hour time window with the 30 minute notice we'd arranged. When I arrived, the gentleman was ready and had drop cloths in order to protect my carpet from any soot residue. He was quick and polite, and he was done before I knew it. Less than 30 minutes later I was able to pay and go to work. I will feel safer using my fireplace this winter knowing it's been swept free of debris and buildup.

They didn't call before they came out so I wasn't prepared. It's a work in progress but so far the experience has been good except for the one misinterpretation.

I emailed and mentioned that we found them on Angie's list in addition to already have been a previous customer. They wanted over 2 weeks to give an estimate. My original request was to give them a week. So sorry you missed out. We thought we would probably use this company, but 3 other contractors are going to give us an estimate within the week. If a company can't even find the time to give estimates and line up new business is makes me scared how they would be about getting the work done.

It definitely went well. There was a lot of work involved in the process that was required in getting it to be up to code. Where they had to drill to bring the lines in and do other work you can't see where it had been know. The quality of work is just outstanding.

Mr. Mattes called before arrival and came within the two hour window specified at the time of appointment. Our repair was fairly simple, a plug had fallen out of a hole designed to allow a gas connection into the fireplace. He used some kind of fireplace sealant and a metal top cover to quickly fill the hole. He didn't charge anything for the small repair beyond the $40 service call. He was very pleasant and efficient. He gave me some guidelines for deciding when our fireplace would need cleaning, but we did not need that service now. I will certainly call him again when we need the chimney swept.

After the freezing and thawing of winter storms, heavy rain created an indoor waterfall in my dining room. This company was the second to respond, and I am glad that I waited for their estimate. The man who came (forgot name) actually did some emergency caulking (no charge) to the gutter soffit and suggested that an ice dam was the problem. He also suggested I see what happened during the next big rain because he said it was possible the leak may not recur - he was right! He suggested the gutters were the main problem because they are too small, but that the roof itself was fine. As it turned out- I did not need any major repairs. Two other companies wanted to replace roof valleys, etc. Although the gutter estimate from Mattes was a little higher, when I am ready to replace them I will definitely use this company. I was impressed with their knowledge and honesty.

They were great, well they were so careful about my lawn and my shrubbery. I would recommend them to anyone. I thought their prices were very reasonable.

They did a good job for a reasonable price. They were also courteous.

I like that if something isn't right the company will come out immediately and fix it.

There really isn't much to say about this experience other than I didn't have any trouble and would be fine working with them in the future. I was working while the service was done. When I arrived home everything was clean just as it was when I left that morning.

Karl was very knowledgeable and gave me plenty of helpful information on maintenance of my chimney. He seemed very enthusiastic about his work. He cleaned up very well. It was a very good experience.

Although it took a couple of calls to get an estimate, all of the other work went according to plan. They were on time and professional. They also took care of removing an old TV antenna and painting the rest of the roof flashings for little extra cost.

Man showed up as scheduled. Very pleasant. In addition to cleaning chimney itself, he took the damper out and cleaned it. Took it apart and put it back together. I have this chimney cleaned once a year and I had never seen a chimney cleaner do this. Can't judge the quality because we haven't looked into the chimney. The only issue with this company is that I also needed some tuckpointing done on my chimney--which they handle. Apparently only the owner does the estimating and he was booked four weeks out -- past my house closing. With 16 employees, this didn't seem efficient. But they were great with the cleaning.

I called Karl late one afternoon after I found water spots on my interior ceilings. My husband works out of town and he was coming home the next day to help with water clean-up so I asked Karl if there was any way he could come out the next day to look at our roof. As promised, Karl called the next morning and was there before 11am! He inspected the interior areas and then spent about 45 minutes on the roof looking at the shingles and areas of concern. He sealed up some shingles and caulked some cracked ventilation pipes. Took pictures and measurements so he can send us estimates for possible cleaning and gutter repair. He was very thorough and honest - that we didn't need to worry, but informed us what to keep an eye on for the future. I was very impressed that he was able to come out within 24 hours considering how busy roofers must be after the recent weather and definitely hope to use him for upcoming work.

We did not choose to go with them primarily because their price was out of line by quite a large percentage based on our other estimates. They quoted a very thorough job but seemed to include rebuilding of fireboxes when they could have just patched the mortar rather than knock them out and rebuild them. They were very responsive with their estimate and even stopped back to check our chimney's from the roof on a day when the weather was good. I just felt they were "over doing" the job and thus the price became prohibitive.

I had Karl Mattes over just to check out and clean the chimney on a house I had just purchased. They immediately discovered that the rear wall of the fireplace was about to collapse and was a serious safety hazard. They showed me the problem and I could see that with the slightest pressure the bricks in the firewall were moving (a lot) and the mortar had crumbled. This had been completely missed during my home inspection. After getting a second opinion and another estimate, I hired Karl Mattes to rebuild the rear wall of the fireplace. They did a great job and left virtually no mess which surprised me given that it was such a messy job. If they hadn't found this I might have ended up with a chimney fire, I'm very grateful that they found this problem.

I got three estimates for this work and Karl Mattes was right in the middle. Their estimate was the most detailed and they noted a couple of issues that one of the other companies had not found. Plus, they explained how the work would be done before leaving. One of the other estimators just left and didn't even tell me he was going! I just had confidence that Karl Mattes knew what they were doing. I haven't been up on the roof to see what they did for myself but what I can see from the ground looks good (for example, the chimney flashing). I have confidence that they did everything they said they would and I wouldn't hesitate to call them for roof work again.

They are excellent and reliable. There was a leak after the job had been completed. The owner came right now and fixed the problem. I can't speak highly enough about them.
