Jonathan Anderson Custom Painting

Jonathan is a true artist. He is not just a painter, but a true custom painter. My door and window look great. Several painters that I contacted did not want to work with stains and varnish but for Jonathan it seemed to be a fairly routine job. He is an expert at finding exactly the right color for the job and his knowledge of products and techniques is very broad. He is professional, gentlemanly and thorough in his work. In addition he is a very interesting man to talk with. I would recommend him with no reservations.

Jonathan is very meticulous in his work and requires the same from his team. I had a tight deadline for all the work needed and he made it happen. He retouched everything and after his work did a walk through with me and ensured it was all to my liking. His prices are very reasonable and worth every penny I spent. His work and ethic are superb. I have recently used his services again and would highly recommend his services.

He did a wonderful job. Very personable and helped with color selection. Provided all materials and cleaned up when job was finished.

He is personable, friendly and thorough. He supplies the paint, but we pick out the color. He does make recommendations too. His pricing is reasonable.

Jonathon & Janet 1st day, Jonathon & Royal second day, cleaned and taped all wood trim, applied 2 coats of paint for walls day 1 and day 2, removed all electrical outlets, cloth covered all carpet, plastic over furniture. Very conscientious and professional.

Excellent work by Mr. Anderson and his assistant Janet. They answered all my questions and even met me at Lowes to help with paint selection. He had called me the week before to recommend a very good paint he had just used on a job. I had some very bad drywall areas by the windows and after Jonathan repaired them you can't tell there was ever any damage. They showed up when they said they would and Jonathan was easy to communicate with. The cleanup was done each day. The price was very fair especially since my living room walls required scaffolding to be set up. He also changed a light bulb while he was up there. They were very comfortable to be around, friendly, and respectful of my home. They also had to move some very heavy furniture. The last day they they checked all their work, making sure everything was cleaned up and furniture back in place. They really earned their "A"!

I would recommend this painter without hesitation. Came on time for quote, and all painting appointments, was very detail ordinated, cleaned up all areas after work was performed. Very friendly and polite, ask for everything as far as questions of times to start, where I preferred they start etc. Even finished under quoted budget. Great looking job !!!

Jonathan was thorough and cleaned-up. The quality of his painting was good. He followed up the next week to ensure I was satisfied.

This will be quite a long review so prepare yourselves. You've been warned. :) My wife and I purchased a new home recently and the previous owner chose some very...interesting...colors for the walls. Lots of dark reds, blue and even a horrible green thrown into the mix. We knew that the majority of the house needed paint and decided to hire a professional so we could get it completed right the first time and not have to worry about it. I started scouring Angie's List and came across the deal that Jonathan Anderson Custom Painting offered. It was $1999 for 2500 square feet of wall space with premium paint included. I figured this was a no-brainer so I purchased the deal. Jonathan contacted me the next day and we worked on scheduling. He was very prompt to get in touch with me so that was awesome. We settled on a date for him to come check the place out and see where he'd be working. Fast forward a couple days and Jonathan and Janet arrived at the exact time stated. Once again, awesome. These guys are really building confidence at this point. Both Jonathan and Janet walk through the house and we let them know what needs done and where. We have more than 2500 square feet of wall space that needed paint so we asked to go over the estimated cost for the additional work along with doing the trim as well. After assessing each room, I was given a ballpark figure of $1000 for all the trim, which included caulking and minor sanding, they provided the paint. As for the additional wall space, he somewhat went back and forth and really didn't have a good idea of the total cost. He estimated it would take 4 or 5 gallons or so, so that seemed along the lines of what we were thinking. We then talk about scheduling. Jonathan was to be out of town the following week but Janet would be able to start on the trim in his absence. We settle on start dates and times and leave it at that. In the meantime, we decided to do the caulking and minor trim repair ourselves to save some cash. This pays off in the end. The work begins! Janet shows up with materials and is ready to work. We had a few pieces that were bare wood so they needed to be primed. She started that process then began doing some minor ding and dent repair in the walls. In the remainder of the week, she continues working on the trim and finishes the upstairs. We were hoping the trim would be completed on both levels during that week but unfortunately, that didn't happen. Jonathan shows up the following week, orders the chosen paint colors and they continue work for that week and half of the next. No problems with the amount of time they devote to the work day and the accomplishments they make. It was somewhat surreal the pace they worked. One day, it looks like they only make a bit of progress then the next day, they have the entire top floor finished, aside from some minor touch-ups. It was fascinating! During the whole process, my wife and I would check on the work being done. Overall, it's good. Not perfect but definitely not bad. Some of the tape lines where the trim meets the wall (especially around the doors) was a bit wavy. There were small spots where they got wall paint on the trim and vice versa. There were roller marks on the ceilings in some spots where they tried to get a bit too close to the edge. There were also random small (read: pin sized) drops of paint splatter on some pieces. I realize this is nit-picking a bit but hey, I paid a professional a good chunk of money to do this, I expect a certain level of perfectionism. To be honest, this is my first experience with a professional painter so this may be the norm, I'm just not sure. At the close of the work, we go over the invoice. Since I did the trim caulking myself as well as provided the paint, he accounted for that and only charged half of the original trim work cost. That was awesome. I expected cheaper but not 50% cheaper so that was a very welcome surprise. However, total time spent on the work seemed a bit high. Not enough to make me flat out say, "no, that's not right, I'm not paying that" but I did question it. In the end, I didn't keep track of their hours myself so I didn't really have good ground to stand on so we settled and let it go. In the end, I would say it's a good job, hence the "B" rating. I fully admit that I may have been expecting too much but I was hoping for clean, precise lines around the doors and trim, no spots that I had to point out that needed touch up (which we did on multiple occasions) and no splatter. Also, I gave a "B" rating under professionalism just because, in my opinion, Jonathan is a bit too critical of Janet's work in the presence of the customer. You can provide coaching and teaching in a very constructive manner but it seemed more like bickering to me. Right or wrong, it's one thing to talk to your employee that way in private but to have that attitude in front of the customer is unprofessional. All other aspects of his attitude towards the job and us was spot on, though; no complaints there.

Glad that I waited for Jonathan and his assistants, Janet & Royal, to do all the interior painting. This was one of the most pleasant experiences. Jonathan was always polite and considerate and he wanted to make sure that I was pleased each day the work was being done. I would highly recommend Jonathan - thank you for a wonderful and beautiful job.

Mr. Anderson is the consummate professional. Affable, with attention to details. I would hire him again. Enough said.

It went wonderfully! I was delighted with the results, found Jonathan and his assistant to be extremely polite, capable and professional, and had a much better looking home for a weekend cookout. Jonathan was able to provide additional services beyond what I had initially requested, and he went above and beyond to get everything done before the weekend.

Jonathan and staff did a fabulous job in our home. They spent several days working in our home and were nothing but professional and friendly. They gave input on some decisions with the painting and strived to make sure everything was perfect. I would recommend Jonathan to anyone searching for a painter.

Excellent experience. This is the second time Jonathan Anderson has painted for me. This first time was last year for a near total interior painting on a newly purchased house. This year, Jonathan painted the interior of my condo and made repairs on cracks in some of the walls. Johnathan is always prompt, responsive to questions and will make suggestions if asked. My wife and I have total trust in Johnathan's advice. We have not been disappointed. His costs are very reasonable and he comes in on the quoted cost of a project. Johnathan would be the first painter I would contact if I needed another painting project. He is also one of the nicest and polite people you will ever meet.

Painted my living room. One wall a darker color the other three a contrasting lighter color. It went great. I love my new walls!

They did a very professional job and the walls and trim look like new again. He gave us an estimate to do our two story great room, and we are going to have him back to do that as well. Would definitely recommend using Jonathan Anderson.

This sounds like a straightforward job, but (and there is always a but)...Our bedroom is not a straight 4 wall and ceiling set up. It has a sitting area, with walls different heights, from 8 feet to 15 feet. The ceiling has angles and is steepled. Preparation is the secret to a good paint job and we had some prep work to take care of. Some wallboard tape had separated and there were some fine cracks where some wallboard was joined. Also, since the ceiling was to be painted there was the danger of paint drips on furniture or the carpet. Not to worry. John and his assistant Royal were thorough in the prep work, laying tarps everywhere and plastic sheeting around furniture. The wallboard fixes are invisible. Lines are straight with no brush or roller marks. While John will use the paint you choose, it is the wise person that uses what he suggests, he knows what will cover best in each situation (High humidity in bathroom, for example.) Beside a first rate finish, here are the intangibles. John was prompt returning calls, listened to what we wanted and made sure we were on the same page. Important for our family is that he showed up when he said he would and kept us up to date on his progress. If prep work is the number one requirement for an acceptable job, communication is number one A. When they left, it was as though they were never there.

Jonathan quickly responded to my request for an estimate; next day if I recall correctly. Due to another job being delayed, he was able to start the following Monday. He and a helper arrived around 9:30AM and began prepping the room. All floors were covered with drop cloths and the bed (now pushed to the center of the room) was protected with plastic. Next, they carefully taped off the edges (around trim, etc), removed switch plate covers and patched holes. Very professional. The painting process went smoothly. They worked efficiently & took care to clean up after themselves - even taking their used brushes and roller covers home to clean up rather than risk staining one of my sinks. There were three colors used in this room between the ceiling and walls. All of the edges where colors meet are extremely straight; care was taken to ensure high quality results. I had them use a paint that I selected; it was a "zero VOC" paint from Lowes that doesn't provide very good coverage (I knew this going into the job because I previously used it in another room, but I had already bought the paint). As a result, the walls took three coats in order to achieve an even finish (consistent with my experience in the room I had done myself). Jonathan was fine with using the paint I provided, but he did offer some helpful suggestions about higher quality paints with low VOCs that I could consider for future jobs. He knows his craft. While we didn't have him do any faux finish work on this project, he consulted us on some ideas we had and showed examples of work he's done on other jobs. Even if you don't hire him for faux finishing be sure to ask to see his portfolio - Jonathan is a gifted artist! The room looks great & we're very happy with the results. Highly recommended.

Everything went ok except he under estimated the amount of paint. I had to go back and get two more gallons.

Work was very good quality. It took a long time to schedule.
