Help Plumbing Heating Cooling and Electric

Water heater had gone off. Electronic ignition would not work. I contacted Whirlpool as it was only two years old. They sent a free replacement thermo coupler. When I contacted Thompson, they came very quickly and went over code issues as well as the Covington water pressure issue that had apparently blown the valve on the tank. Although the final amount seemed staggering as I wasn't expecting that level of repair, the work was done well and quickly. They replaced the valve, installed a pressure reducer in my main water line and installed the thermo coupler. Great job and very thorough!

It was a bad experience and I would not use them again. They recommended things which I found that I did not need to have replaced. I felt like they were trying to up sell their products to me.

My air conditioner is not cooing and temperature not cold enough. Service call revealed a low refrigerator. Offered to change system or replace since leak sound could not be diagnosed. So opted to change systems And get other estimate before buying new system on rent use. But the air conditioner did not function at all. Repeat visit revealed compressor failure, yet refrigerant tells ok, no apparent leak in 7 days then admitted compressor as functioning on prior visit. I was forced into new system after failed attempt to charge is fragment. I went with another company that wanted half the price for a new system as Thompson.

We have used Thompson for several years for heating and a/c repairs and tune-ups. The prices had always been on the high side, but they arrived quickly and although we've had small problems with their work in the past, they were always quick to come back and fix the problem at no additional cost. We called them to repair our leaking shut-off valve. The plumber arrived and said he had fixed the valve by repacking it. After he left the valve was still leaking so we called and he returned the same day. The valve was replaced and the plumber left. I was annoyed that the drywall that had been cut away on the ceiling to expose the valve was left laying on the floor and there were hand prints all over my wall. However, we knew we would have to remove more drywall to install an access panel for future use, so it wasn't a huge problem. When we got around to repairing the ceiling and cleaning up the drywall, we saw that there was multiple spots of solder on the carpet, heat register, and wall. I called Thompson the next day and they offered to send out a cleaning company the next day, which they did. The carpet cleaning company said metal had melted into the carpet and could not be cleaned. They also said that since our basement carpet is glued down, the only solution would be to remove a significant portion and replace it. We did not have any extra carpet to do this. I called Thompson the next day and was told the customer service manager Angela would be calling me back to discuss the carpet. Three days later after no call, I called and asked to speak to Angela who said she was not told to call me. However, when I explained the issue she said she had spoken to the plumber and he had said he didn't use anything that would do that to my carpet. It is very clear that the new valve was soldered into place. She said she would talk to the carpet company and call me back the same day. She never called back. I have made multiple attempts to call and I'm always told she is too busy to talk to me. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The company's response to the BBB complaint was to refund me the cost of the club membership from the time of the complaint on. This does not address the fact that the carpet we installed last year was ruined. Overall, Thompson has refused to take responsibility for the damage that was caused by their employee. Their customer service manager was unfriendly at best, and ineffective. Update: Perhaps this is coincidental, but after posting this review I got a response to my BBB complaint that had been open a month. Thompson agreed to reimburse us for the plumbing job. This won't replace the carpet, but it is what I originally asked for. I don't think a month and a half and multiple complaints should be what it takes to resolve an issue. For that reason we won't be using this company again.

They were wonderful and our heat went out. It was like one day we had heat and the next day we didn't. It was somewhere after Christmas we called them and they came right out. They were at the house within an hour and did everything they had to do. We had installers come the following morning to put on the furnace. We haven't had problems but the furnace was pretty old. They were very quick and very clean. In fact, I swear that they left my basement cleaner than they found it. I think the price was pretty good. I did actually shop around after the fact and I think they were competitive price wise. Of course we got an energy product and made it under the line. They were wonderfully professional. The phone people, the guys who came out, the way they explained things and showed how it is hooked up was really professional. We had used them several years ago before being Angie's List members for some air conditioning work and we were very pleased. They had been recommended by a neighbor. We were very pleased with that experience which is why we called them for the furnace.

Bill was the service tech and he completed the work in a timely manner. When he arrived I showed him the work to be done, he gave me the estimated I accepted and he processed to work. First on the list was the water filter which was replaced then he moved on to re-seating the toilet. the third item was replacing an old vanit and wash basin. Bill cleaned the area as he worked. When the work was completed he gave me the bill and the price was what was estimated. He was courteous and professional.

My AC unit was 16 years old and barely cooling the house. Thompson came out ASAP, talked to me about my options without a strong sales pitch. When I agreed to replace the unit, they gave me a great offer . I had a new AC system the next day with countless discounts with another 10% off because I paid cash. The installer was prompt, and worked fast. He explained everything and cleaned up too. He did not stop for lunch. A week later I received a thank note and gift - two coffee mugs with coffee and a kind thank you note.

They have done a lot of work for me in the past. What had happened was they had put in a water heater, and there was a problem. There was also rain at that time. The roof was being done by somebody else at the same time. They were very responsive because we had to figure out why the water was still coming in to the house, and it put out my brand new water heater which they had put in the week before. They had to come back a number of times to figure it out with the roofer. They solved the problem. They re routed the water heater and then put in the lining of the chimney. They did a big problem solving thing. It was very expensive.

I have to admit, the technician did find and fix some problems with my furnace. However, when it came time to pay the bill it amounted to about $500. But the technician said if I became a member in their 12 month service plan, that the repairs would only be $200, plus the cost of the membership $240. I thought there might be an advantage to the membership, but I found out 6 months later that there really isn't. I also found out later, that the repairs would have been much less expensive elsewhere.

One morning I went to the basement and saw raw sewage had come up from the floor drain. We had Thompson and check it out. They sent a serviceman and he ran a snake through the line. When he withdrew the snake it had tree roots attached. He suggested they send another serviceman with a camera. (he even came on a Sunday!) I was with him as he ran the camera through the entire length of the pipe. Our house was built with three foot clay tiles that had separated due to the soil settling. Tree roots has been able to grow into almost every joint that was separated. They ran a cutter through the line to clear it for the short term. It has been raining almost every day and ground water was leaking into the sewer line. They explained that the epoxy they used in this lining process wouldn't cure with all of the water running through the pipe and they would have to wait until the rain stopped. It took two weeks for the rain to stop long enough to line the pipe. It's a really nice solution to the problem. We now have a seemless pipe from our house all the way to the main sewer. The only sign they were here is a small cemented hole in my basement about 2 feet wide by 3 feet long. These folks did a fantastic job. If you are faced with a similar problem, please consider this process.

The workers from Thompson Plumbing Heating & Cooling Company were clean. They wore plastic foot wear when they walked through the house which was nice. They did the work pretty quickly. They also gave me some helpful advice on our duct work. It probably needs work in future. I would use them again in the future.

I opted not to "chase" this company because they didn't show the necessary interest in my needs nor extend the courtesy to follow up. HVAC is an investment and while the companies that provide these installation services deal in multiple thousands of dollars for their service day in and day out; we as the consumer are not likely to be dealing with spending that kind of money on a common basis.

They did an excellent job. They are very professional and told us every step of what they were doing. They showed me videos and cleaned up everything when they left. They also did not do anything that was unnecessary. They also followed up two days later to make sure everything was still working okay.

It was great. They did it up to code and it was inspected. They did everything that we wouldn't have done had we done it on the cheap. They actually came by and looked over the area before giving the estimate; they didn't quote anything over the phone. They explained what they were going to do and scheduled us within a couple of days to do the work. They were actually able to come earlier than they said. The price was good considering what we got. We would definitely hire them again.

Same as above. I was asked to fill out the evaluation sheet while he was there, instead of letting customers mailign it in. I'm sure the young man was just doing what he was told to do in order to make a sale, but It's not fair to try and take me for a ride.

We weren't really satisfied with some of the other companies we'd used. He was really nice. Two different fellows had to come out, one could not really inspect the furnace so they sent another. They were personable. I was satisfied with their service.

We use their club plan which is a good deal. They did a nice job last time. I liked them a lot. I rate them high overall.

They worked out pretty well. I kept getting coupons in the mail so I decided to use them. The work was excellent, they were very courteous and self conscious, they didn’t show up dirty, and it is a classy outfit.

We have a contract with them. They come when I call them and they can do my plumbing and heating. It is kind of a one stop shop. They are always on time and they are professional. I never have a problem with what they do and if we have a problem, they come back and fix it. They always have what they need; they wear shoe covers and are careful. They clean up.

Had a leak in basement when washing machine drained. I thought water coming up through floor. Turned out water was coming up where wall and floor meet b/c a drain pipe had broken due to age wear/tear. My washer drains into a sink. Barry turned sink on until water started coming up to figure out where problem was coming from. He tried to use a camera but it wouldn't go through pipe b/c pipes a little too small at 90 degree bend. We decided that he would dig up the concrete and replace the pipe. He replaced the pipe, and jetted out the pipes to the main drain. While he had the concrete dug up I had him do a "rough in" for a small extra bathroom to be installed at some later point. While he was there a pipe broke in my kitchen sink (right above the basement area he was working on). Since it was due to his work he quickly replaced the pipe to the sink at no charge. Minimal time (he even came during a snow storm to work). Very nice clean up. No concrete dust flowing through out house. The plumber Barry was very nice, respectful and explained everything in an easy to understand way. He had a helper who I didn't interact with much, but he seemed to do a good job as well. What made me decide to use Thompson was 1. Barry came looking like he was ready to work, 2. I felt confident he would do a good job.

Getting a quote for replacing my furnace and air conditioner felt like going to a disreputable used car lot. The salesman came to the house, inspected the current equipment, discussed options and then the pressure began. He started out with a price of $12,900, then after "discovering" a series of special deals, discounts, rebates, etc. finally brought the price down to $10,800, which was the "cash" price. When I told him I thought that was too high, he asked me what I had in mind. I told him I was thinking more around the $8,500 range, which prompted him to remember another deal and he countered with $9.070. He wanted me to sign the contract right then and there, even going so far as to ask me to call my wife at work to discuss it so I'd feel comfortable signing before he left. I (of course) refused and told him I wanted to do some more research. The biggest "surprise" was when he called me the next day and offered a price of $8,500. I don't want to do business wit a company who has that much markup in their product and is willing to charge well above what is obviously necessary. Buyer beware with this company.

We had made an appointment and right at the end of the appointment window, they called and said they had to reschedule. When they actually came, he did a bunch of tests on the furnace and red flagged it, saying that it was dangerous to use and that we could not use it as it was. We had another company come out and say that there was nothing wrong with the furnace and a third that said only a small part had to be repaired.

Overall, I had a very positive experience with this company. I was already under a service contract with them. When they had an opening with their scheduling, they called me immediately to offer the open time slot. The installation was completed in one day, and they stayed late to make sure that happened. The technicians were pleasant, professional, and did an efficient job. An inspector from the city independently verified that they did a great job with the installation. I highly recommend their services to others.

Our furnace stop working : Service techs determined we had a bad control board and that our heat exchanger was cracked, same day gave us quote to repair vs new installation of 95% efficient gas furnace. Next day installers arrived to installed new furnace, humidifier and determined that my gas water heater vent needed to be relocated so that was completed as well at no additional cost. Installers stayed until job was complete - 8 PM. Very courteous and professional crew of guys. When this company says red carpet treatment they mean that literally. They rolled out red throw rugs and plastic to protect our floors from the front door all way through our basement.
