I had another company come out and they added freon and it works just fine.

He did a very superior job. He was a nice character and fun to be around. He worked very hard and explained everything to me. He also has a nice personality and is a common man who was professional and polite.

I have been using them for the passed 5 years. They are the ones I would call on for any problems I have. They are very courteous.

This report was relayed to me by my daughter who is not a member of Angie's List. That said, her experience was right in line with the negative reviews left by several others who assigned Thompson an 'F'. In the first place, coming out to give an estimate should be a cost of business, as it is with virtually every other provider, not a $70.00 charge. Then, the guy who showed up (Keith) said the entire heating system was shot and a 'tech guy' would have to come out to discuss its replacement (or he could fix it for $4,000. but it would be throwing good money after bad). When my daughter questioned his diagnosis, Keith explained that she didn't know anything about it, and that was that. The tech guy (Ken) showed up, swearing he wasn't a salesman ("they work on commission and have to add 5% to the quote" sort of nonsense), then made every effort to sell her a $14,000 new system. They were shown the door. She then called Schmidt Heating, who saw things very differently They called into serious question the results of Thomson's tests, determined that a new blower was needed, and gave passing marks to the rest of the system. Schmidt performed the necessary work for around $750.00 and the thing is up and running with good efficiency. I do not mean to imply anything in this report other than we will not be troubling Thompson again, and it is disturbing that this identical behavior has been reported by others.

My sewer line was clogged with tree roots. This is something that has happened several times over the years. I though the previous person I had used was a high so I tried Thompson. I called on Sunday afternoon but they could not get anyone there until Monday morning. They arrived at the scheduled time on Monday and cleaned my line. As expected, it was tree roots again. I asked if there was any way to stop the roots from coming back and the technician suggested a Root-x treatment.. I had them do the treatment as I had previously researched on line. They then scheduled someone to come on Friday to camera the line as a courtesy. The cost of cleaning the line was only $87 which was much less than I had paid previously. The cost of the Root-x was $180 after discount. I thought this was high as you see it only line for around $40 a container and that doesn't reflect buying in bulk. All you do is mix with water and pour down line. Took about 5 minutes. They stated that you had to be a licensed plumber to purchase so may have a corner on the market. A camera was run down the line on Friday. It revealed damage to the line and they suggested I reline the drain line to avoid digging up the yard. This was an expensive proposition. I ended up doing that with another vendor due to slightly lower cost and I was not able to get information on Thompson's warranty. This meant that the money I spent on the Root-x was basically wasted.

I called them and they came out. They sent a technician and the technician was not familiar with the way my plumbing system was set up. He was there for about 30 minutes and he could not figure what the problem was and after that he called back up. Once back up arrived another technician came. He said my septic needed to be cleaned out. He implied that I am having some problems with my septic and some others possible problems. I was not very happy with them because they really did not do anything. They charged me $49.00 for not doing anything. On top of that they asked me to fill out a form to see if I was satisfied. They kept trying to up sale me and pressuring me to do certain things. The information they provided was suggested on the fact they they thought I have a lot of other serious problems. They did not try the fix the problem that they were called for only try to up sale.

Overall , the service was done to satisfaction.

Thompson came out to replumb my sump and backup on a Thursday evening. Friday morning, I inspected the pipe and realized it was still leaking. I called around 9am and asked for someone to come right away, because the pipe they so called fixed was now leaking again and it had just flooded my basement the weekend before. The lady said she would put me on a list and it would be sometime after noon. I explained to her that I didn't think this should wait, because if the pipe fails again, it will re flood the basement and Thompson is assuming responsibility at this point. She said she would get someone out there asap. Around noon I called to see where I was and she said I was next. At 5:30pm Thompson called and said that they wouldn't be able to get out there until tomorrow morning as they fell behind with the other 4 calls that technician had that day and they would be out Saturday morning. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told that all managers left for the weekend at 5pm. I was extemely mad and couldn't understand how this happened. Luckily the pipe didn't burst, and they came out Saturday morning, I had to change my plans with guests in town, to accomodate them, and fixed the pipe. I will never do business with Thompson again. They ended up refunding me my money which is why the amount I paid was $0.00

The man who came was very responsive and helpful--made sure to check everything and explain what was happening, the cost for using them was just too high. We were able to find an independent contractor who could come out and do the work for 1/4 of the price. It took our cost from over 1200 to under 300--you can't walk away from that. Our decision was purely financial.

Our AC unit stopped working this year even though its only 5-6 years old. I called to have them come out and fix it. First, you get charge $70 just for the service call. They found that I needed a dual capacitor to get it running and also told me the fan was weak and the capacitor was burnt. Altogether charged $440 to replace just the capacitor and was only here for about 10 minutes after we discussed the problem. I looked up the part later and they are only $30 to buy online. Why did I get charged 440 dollars for this? This isn't unique to Thompson I'm sure. Now my AC is broke again, just 2 weeks later. He told me it would likely be the motor or the contactor if it broke again, so this time I'm just going to buy the parts online and replace myself. They would charge another $500 dollars to fix these for me and the parts can be bought for less than $150.Bottom line, our Goodman AC/Heat Pump is a peice of crap for breaking after only 5 years of use. Repairs are a rip off, you'll get charged a ridiculous amount of money to replace a cheap part that can be bolted on in a matter of minutes. No technical skill required to fix these things so why are we getting charged ridiculous prices?

The technician did a good job. The air conditioning unit was up and running in a short time. We informed the technician that since we needed a new unit, we would want to get two or three bids before deciding from whom we would purchase the air conditioning unit. We asked Thompson to be one of those bidders. After conferring with his superior, the technician informed us that if we were going to get other bids, Thompson would not bid until we had the other bids in hand and shared those bids with Thompson. When I mentioned that this practice would be unfair to us and the other bidders, the technician informed us again that they would not come out and bid until we had the other bids and shared those bids with them. We decided not to have Thompson bid on our new unit. We chose two others from Angie's list and have been very happy with the outcome. We believe that Thompson's bidding process was unfair to us as the customer and to the other bidders. We will not use Thompson's services in the future.

Everything went on fine. They responded when they said they would. They seemed to have a reasonable price; they were professional and helpful.

It went great. I recommend they are the one you pick. They are courteous, they no what they are doing, and they are reasonable.

They were excellent in every area. I don’t know if it is above and beyond but they just made it okay to have them in our house. They made me comfortable with their presence. They were punctual. I would recommend them.

We have a contract with Thompson Plumbing Heating & Cooling. Included in that contract is a free inspection, once in the summer and once in the winter, one for the heater, one for the cooler. They usually find something wrong that costs behind $300 and $500. I wanted to cancel the contract but they automatically renewed it for another year. The people are very nice and polite when they come out. I don't know that I would refer them to anybody. I don't know about price, I don't know air conditioning parts so when they tell me how much it will be to fix it I believe them. Unless you know the people personally you just don't know if they are giving you good advice or not. For example, last year they replaced a part on my air conditioner. This year when they came out, the repairman said they had put on a rusty part last year so it needed to be replaced again this year.

An outside drain in back of the house was suspected of being clogged. Jamison ran a snake and wasn't sure how effecitve it was. So he requested that Thompson send someone the next day with a camera to inspect the drain pipes around the house. Andy & Tim came the next day to run the camera through the drain pipes. About 25 feet into the pipe, the camera revealed that the pipe had been taken over by tree roots. Andy came up with a detailed plan to address the problem, and as I suspected it would, it entailed replacing all the drain pipes from the downspouts around the house. Andy gave me an estimate for the cost of the work. Because it was critical to have the work done as soon as possible (because each storm meant water backing up into my basement), I agreed to the plan and the cost. I felt comfortable doing so because Thompson Plumbing had been recommended to me by someone who had once been in the plumbing business. Andy & Jamison arrived early the next morning to begin work. They worked all day in the most extreme and demanding heat and humidity, including hand digging some of the trenches. The next day they arrived with a third worker, Charley. Again they worked in heat and humidity until a storm hit late in the afternoon. Unable to complete the job that day, all three of them arrived early the next morning to finish the job. Andy seemed to take the lead on the project, and he kept me informed every step of the way. Jamison, Andy, Charley, and Tim are the nicest, most professional, and hard working young men I've ever met. Their attention to detail was impressive, and they kept a positive attitude in spite of coming up against some unforeseen challenges. There is no doubt in my mind that the job was done as well as anyone could have done it. Thompson Plumbing can be very proud of the guys they sent to do this job. If all their employees reflect the same professionalism and work ethic, they should have no problem providing satisfying results for other customers.

arrivedchecked the pipes and knew immediately what my problem was explained the situation to meservice went ahead and cleaned out what they could that day since I was short of funds and I will scheduleanothe appointment to have two of the drain pipes replaced with PVC I was also told the price that I paid on the first visit would be deducted from the bill within a certain time period when I had the pipes replaced.

He replaced the hoses on the washer and the dryer vent, that had been ancient. He excluded the expenses that he could and he put in new valves so I can turn them off and on. He did a great job especially for being such an old house. Nothing in my house is normal!

This job was very reasonable but quotes for other work very expensive. They quoted between $400 and $500 to replace the internal workings of the hot and cold faucet handles to stop a leaking faucet. I called another plumber that I had used before and got a quality job done for $142.00.

Called Thompson's to set up an appointment to obtain quote for complete replacement of existing equipment (furnace, condensing unit, line set, etc.). I was informed that there would be a charge of $69.00 to obtain a quote. That is where the call ended and this post starts. I work in construction and was completely appalled at this practice. Quotes or in better terms, estimating is a service that can not be charged for directly, like Thompson's is trying to do. It is a cost that the contractor includes in there overhead portion of there quote, part of there mark-up. This up front charge is just there way of double charging. So, I suggest everyone who reads this go to another contractor for your quotes and think hard about using Thompson's. This practice of charging for a quote is bad. Also, if this was just a service call, I would of accepted a $69.00 charge. Thompson's should be ashamed.

i utilized thompson plumbing heating & cooling for a coupla service calls on my old furnace and a/c unit in the past year. a few months ago i purchased a new furnace and a/c unit through them. there was an issue w/the a/c unit during the memorial day weekend [OY!] and they were here the next day. i am extremely happy w/their service AND their technicians. each individual i have dealt with [from the customer service "voice" on the phone to the technician at my front door] has been impeccable in demeanor.

The fan on our AC unit wouldn't run. We hadn't had the unit serviced in a while so we called Thompson, a local big-name with signs all over everyone's yards. The first guy who came (sorry, forgot his name) diagnosed the problem as resulting from rodent damage. He repaired that damage. He then tested the condenser and asserted that the readings indicated imminent failure. He then called his buddy (whose name I also forget), the "tech guy," who would give a quote on a new AC unit. The "tech guy" promised he wasn't a salesman, but then did all the salesman tricks and gave a quote on a new unit that was extremely high. He also got extremely short and annoyed when it was clear I wasn't going to spend $6-$10K before he left the house, and snottily stamped out of the place. I called another guy, who merely cleaned out the coils and said the unit would last a while longer. So far so good.
