Of all the various pieces of furniture we entrusted to Furniture Medic's care (of which they AWED us with the end results) we had a big issue with our dining room server piece, which unfortunately had an unhappy reaction to being stripped. They took this little rascal back twice and kept it (for some weeks, I have to say, but cool in the outcome) until they were confident it was going to be as beautiful as we hoped! Their upholstery service is also fabulous! Before you ditch favorite and beloved pieces of furniture your need to talk to these people!

It was great. They came and picked up my table at my home and were very gentle with it. They took it to their business and refinished it. They then delivered it back to my home. They did a fantastic job and it now looks beautiful. The men who picked the table up and returned it to me were so professional, gentle and friendly.

Furniture Medic came and said that they did not do the furniture refinishing that I wanted on my kitchen table. It would be the same price to get new cabinets as have them refinsh the ones I have. It cost more than I want to spend to refinish the wood on my front window. I did not get any work done by them at this time, but I was impressed by their honesty, and would not hesitate to use them in the future.

They were very friendly and professional. They helped me pick appropriate upholstery fabric. They knew all the right questions to ask. They asked me about things I hadn't thought of, such as if I wanted the foam in the cushions replaced and how firm of a foam did I want. Fortunately they were able to keep the original spring cushions. They did excellent work on the chairs. This was about a year ago, so I don't remember how much it cost overall. I do remember I could have bought cheap replacement chairs for less, but if I wanted chairs the same quality as the ones Furniture Medic restored for us would have cost much much more. They were not as fast as I wanted, but I guess that is because this type of work takes time. Overall, they do great work. Don't be in a hurry, and you get what you pay for!
Description of Work: I had 6 of my grandmother's dining room chairs. She bought them in 1939. They were wobbly and the upholstery was worn out. Furniture Medic took the chairs apart and re-glued them so they were no longer wobbly, the reupholstered them, and even made a new applique to replace on that had broken off.

I purchased the Big Deal with the hope of having my maple kitchen table top repaired in-home, but Furniture Medic suggested a complete off-site restoration at a price I was not prepared to pay for that piece.they extended the use date for my deal to accommodate picking up a different item which needed the top refinished. eThe office coordinated pick-up within a 15 minute window and the workers picking up and delivering were efficient and professional . Bent of all, the work was great . It matches the rest of the piece, and allows me to enjoy the buffet for years to come. I plan to have its partner done in the future. I overcame my disappointment at not having the work done in-home because the quality and convenience were worthwhile.

We delivered the chairs to their facility to save the cost of pickup/delivery. They had come to our house to give an estimate, so we knew going in the cost. We also had an Angies List coupon we had purchased to help with the cost. Their representative who came to the home was experienced, knowledgeable and answered all our questions. The staff on site was also very friendly and helpful. The work was done beautifully and we are happy with the results. We did have to call them to find out when the chairs were ready for pickup. And they are expensive, I think (especially if you have furniture that needs to be picked up and delivered). But with the coupon, it was an overall good experience.

The staff at Furniture Medic (also known as "Olde Fort Restoration) were all very pleasant and helpful during my long decision making process about this family 'heirlooom' and what to do with it, how to proceed with it. I found Furniture Medic through Angie's List. I needed to ship the Hoosier cabinet cross country, knew it was in sad shape, and wanted it delivered directly to a wood-worker. The cabinet had survived Hurricane Sandy in NJ, and then spent the winter on the NJ house porch, covered in plastic. (!!!!!). No one in our extended family wanted to deal with the poor dilapidated thing. Except me. When we all viewed the cabinet together at his shop, we discussed refinishing versus restoring, what sort of image I had and wanted and Tom explained various options and procedures to me. I elected for 'restoring'---and repairing any damage. At their suggestion I ordered replacement 'vintage hardware' for the whole cabinet since some was missing and they installed it, and now everything matches (it may be available in town, but I ordered on-line from a source a friend gave me). This was not an over-night process, and I needed time to make room for it, anyway. I felt Tom was very sensitive to my vision and desires, and to the piece of furniture itself. Maggi in the office was always cheerful; I had to stall or change dates several times because I 'wasn't ready' for the furniture. They never barked at me. The delivery men were very careful and the piece looks wonderful in its new home. It shows its 'age', but it is much, much improved from that sad piece of oak furniture we first reviewed in Furniture Medic's studio. I don't plan to bake on it, but it is wonderful to have and keep in the family.

Furniture Medic did a fantastic job repairing stripped wood finish on two pieces of furniture in the dining room due to cat urine. Provider was extremely knowledgeable about wood furniture and care. He took his time and really did a great job matching the finish so you really can't tell it was refinished in one area. Provider protected my floor by putting down a large work area mat. Provider was prompt and courteous and kind to my pets. I had originally asked for a quote on about 8 different pieces of furniture but could only afford two pieces done at this time. Without the $200 coupon offered my total cost would have been around $450.00 Provider also gave me information about where I could have brass handles refinished and marble repolished - repair ideas that I did not know about so I was grateful for those tips. The quality of the work was superb and I just can't say enough. I should have taken a before and after picture but didn't think about it.

Customer service is our first priority; to be completely accurate in our response to [member name removed] I searched our database for information, and [member name removed] is not listed as one of our customers. We’ve also searched email, phone records and work schedules. We can find no [member name removed], nor a bedframe repair as described. When I called for the "deal" I got right through to the company and an appointment was set up for the next week. I sent some photos so they could see what I needed done and they agreed that the price on the deal would cover my needs. The appointment was for 1:00 and the technician arrived promptly. He was polite, professional, careful and did a great job. The cabinets no longer show the wear that was bothering me. I will use this company again should the need arrive

as unreliable as it gets
Description of Work: I emailed this company early in the morning when I did not get an answer on the phone, requesting an estimate on refinishing some built-in cabinets. I did not receive a reply a reply so I called them today (16 days later) and asked if they received my email. The representative on the phone searched and found my email from March 5 offering no explanation as to why it was ignored. With apprehension, I began to book an appointment, and asked why the company did not reply earlier and that I was half waiting for a little apology. The representative got very defensive and said maybe I should get the work done somewhere else and they were no longer interested in performing the work.

Angie's List Community, Receiving customer inquiries and responding to them in a timely fashion is very important to us. I have had our IT department search our network for the alleged email. Unfortunately we did not find any trace of an email from the customer on or about March 5th. I am certain our staff apologized for any inconvenience this may have caused. I also am aware that our staff offered a discount to the customer as a form of apology. However, the customer requested the work to be at no charge or would post a negative rating on Angie's List. While I would apologize for not responding had we received the email, I will not be held hostage on the threat of providing free service in fear of receiving a negative rating on Angie's List. The request and tactic is not consistent with the behavior of our other Angie's List customers and hope this does not impact our favorable rating.

I called the Furniture Medic referral service and they gave me the phone number to this location. We had several talks with Elizabeth concerning what we needed and if they could do it. We agreed they would pick up the dresser for $60 and bring it back to their shop for an estimate to remove the odor and make it clean and safe for children and children's clothing. Once they had the dresser, Elizabeth called back and sent estimates via email as to what needed to be done and how much it would cost. They felt confident they could remove the smell with a process called Ozone. They would have to repair the entire top so for a little extra money, they could refinish the entire piece and I could change the color. We agreed on the estimate and she asked me to come over and approve the color of stain. It was an hour drive to their shop and when I got there, they were completely surprised and did not even have the product for me to see. I did have the pleasure of meeting Tom, who does the actual refinishing. He was a delightful person and I felt confident he understood what I wanted as far as the appearance of the dresser. A few months went by. We were in no hurry. And they called for me to come pick up the dresser. I drove back and the dresser was in the office. It is very dark and musty in there, with sconces on the wall and no real light for viewing furniture that has been refinished. Even in the poor lighting, I could see the dresser was gorgeous. It was/is absolutely breathtaking to look at. Tom did an amazing job. I see why they have so many "A" ratings. As I began opening the drawers, Elizabeth took a phone call. Immediately, I noticed a red, gooey spot in the top drawer. Elizabeth hung up the phone and when I pointed it out see snapped, "We don't do drawers." WHAT? Did I just waste all that time talking to her explaining in detail how this dresser would be used for children's clothing? I also noticed there was contact paper in there, which she told me just to pull it out, that it would be easy. I was so upset. I just wanted to get out of the smelly, dark building and call my husband to ask what I should do? I told her I had to go and I would call her. As I walked out of the building to my car, she followed me shouting that if I didn't take the dresser they would dispose of it, to which I responded that I would sue them. I drove an hour home completely upset. This was the only piece of anything I had left of my grandfather and I used this dresser for my own dresses when I was a little girl. Once I got home, they had called my husband and told him they would clean up the inside drawers, even replace them. Long story short, they put false bottoms in the drawer. We've had so much back and forth, it gets a little fuzzy but I believe we picked it up and let it air out in our entry. Our entire house started to smell like perfumed disinfectant. We called them back and they refused to pick it up, yet Elizabeth had promised if there were a problem, they were always in our neighborhood, it would be no problem to pick it up. She said if we paid an additional $60 they would pick it up. They recommended we place coffee grounds in the dresser for a few weeks to absorb the odor. My husband spoke to the owner and he said they could Ozone it if we brought it back. They should have already done this though? So we took it back--each time removing and re-installing our car seats. It was a pain. While we were loading it into the car again, my husband opened one of the drawers and a tiny sliver of veneer popped off the bottom edge. We taped it to the inside thinking they could fix that too. This time they shellacked the drawers. And then they asked for $125 to fix the chip that came off while we were trying to get it back to them to remove the smell. We told them we were not paying them anything more until they get the smell out--the original job. We picked it up again and brought it home. And it still smelled. It is repulsive. I tried calling the main FM company which turned into a circus. They said we used a different company, not them. So we checked our paper work and cross-reference it with the address of the building and it turns out the same owner does have another refinishing business called Olde Fort Restoration. So was it switch and bait? We called Furniture Medic. This just fueled our frustration with them but they offered to contact the owner anyway to let him know that we wanted them to answer the emails or phone calls and do something about the dresser. They also mentioned something about slander or defamation if we wrote a bad review or sued them in small claims--I cannot remember exactly--just more nonsense. I received an email from the owner (of both companies) listing the work they did to the dresser. He still will not acknowledge that they were hired to get the smell out. If they couldn't remove it, I had offered to pay them another $60 to take the dresser back so we could donate it. All they had to say was that it wasn't going to work instead of charging us $450 to refinish it without getting the smell out. Now it is strikingly gorgeous but completely useless. We placed papers in it trying to see if it could be used for anything, but the books, boxes, paper, etc... absorbed the odor. It is nauseating. Can you imagine putting clothes in there? Now we don't know what to do with it. It cannot be used for anything. It's sitting in our entry blocking our way and reminding us every day of how thoughtless some people can be. How can you take someone's money for a job you haven't done? They didn't get the smell out, which was the entire reason we called them. Yet they proceeded to refinish it. I would never recommend them to anyone. In our experience, with the exception of Tom, they do not listen or care. Either way, it's very sad and I'm sure my grandfather would not want me throwing money away for absolutely no reason--especially trying to preserve a dresser to use as a keepsake of him. I have a heart full of memories, I don't need a stinky dresser. They should have just admitted it was beyond their ability and let it go back to the nursing home instead of doing extra work and taking more of our money.

Response from Furniture Medic by Cinti Furniture Restoration
The hallmark of a great company is to respond when a customer is dissatisfied. In these rare occasions we redouble our efforts to ensure satisfaction. Sadly, some customers cannot be satisfied with reasonable means. In this case, we were contracted to refinish the exterior and deodorize a dresser. When the customer expressed dissatisfaction with the end product, we added a number of additional steps at no further expense. Our company added false bottoms to the drawers, on two separate occasions sealed the interior cabinet to remove odor contamination and deodorized the dresser - twice. We are experienced in restoring items that are severely smoke and fire damaged and these steps far exceeded anything we have done for items which were in much worse condition. In addition, while waiting for the customer to pick up the item, the dresser sat in un-leased, commercial office space for 4 months. The item acclimated to the new, odor free environment and was odor inspected prior to customer pickup. On two separate instances the customer sent a representative (her husband) to inspect and pick up the dresser. The representative inspected the item, accepted the work, and took the item from our facility. We are vigilant about our integrity and providing good service. We believe we went to extraordinary steps to satisfy the customer and our company never asked for additional payment even when the scope of work changed. While we are disappointed that the customer was not delighted with our work, we believe that this review provides the reader with an understanding of our level of commitment no matter how unreasonable the customer may be. Please take into consideration the numerous reviews and positive experiences on Angie’s List. We believe that the numerous Super Service Awards speak to the body of our work over many years.
