Response from Criterium-Cincinnati Engineers
We do not repair beams. You are writing a negative comment under our company that is intended for someone else. Please withdraw you comment. This will affect our clients who choose us on Angies List. We are engineers that will come out and inspect issues. We do not do any repair work. You are not and never have been our customer!!!!. Please make sure you are talking about the correct company before making these kinds of comments. it will impact our business in a negative way. Matthew was very professional and informative. He helped me understand what I was experiencing with the foundation of my new build home, provided me with great information as to things to look for/what to expect, and answered all of my questions! If we ever need an inspection in the future we will be calling him again! Thank you again for your time and help!

It was easy to set up the appointment and get on Matt's schedule. He was on time and did a great job of walking the house and describing the structural integrity and construction of the house based on what he could see. He even pointed out a few things to examine further that were not part of his scope for this job. His patience and willingness to answers questions and help us understand any issues is much appreciated.

It's clear from the reviews that Matt was off doing home inspections instead of delivering the maintenance plan he had promised. We hired Matt in Jan 2016 and unfortunately paid the entire $1500 upfront. Matt inspected the church except the roof in mid Feb. He inspected the roof in late March. I asked for the report by the beginning of May. May came and went, no report and no communication from Matt on why he missed the deadline. I then requested the first of June. When this date also passed with no communication I set a deadline of July 1st or I would contact a lawyer. At one minute to midnight a draft spreadsheet of the maintenance plan was emailed to me. I responded to Matt's questions the next day. When no report was provided by early August, I demanded a refund. Matt finally responded that he had been waiting for a response from others at my church despite my earlier email that "we" did not have the historical cost information. He then offered a 50% refund or the final report and plan in one week. I agreed to the report if provided in one week. Again Matt did not provide the report. Finally in mid-October we had to have a lawyer send a letter demanding a full refund. Within two days Matt finally provided the final report and plan - eight months after conducting most of the building inspection. Matt consistently did not respond to phone calls or emails trying to find out the status of the report.
Description of Work: I hired Matt Klein to provide a 20 year maintenance plan for our church. This involved inspecting the entire building and then providing cost estimates for repair/replacement over a 20 year period.

We plan on listing our home for sale some time this year. We wanted a structural engineer to inspect the house and provide a neutral expert opinion for potential buyers. It was easy to set up the appointment and Matt came out to perform the work shortly after. He was polite and answered all of our questions. he provided a written report shortly after the inspection and again was very responsive to our questions. He also agreed to take any questions that come up from potential buyers. We were very satisfied with the entire process. The fee was a bit higher compared to some competitors but he was highly recommended and we were pleased with the work.

Description of Work: We had them do a full structural inspection of our house in order to provide assurances to prospective buyers. It was easy to contact the company, learn about their services and set up an appointment. Matt was a few minutes late but called ahead of time to warn me. He was very pleasant to deal with and did a great job of explaining what he found with his inspection. His report was promptly delivered and very clearly written. He also made himself available to us, our real estate agent and prospective buyers to answer questions if any came up. He was more expensive than some of his peers but he came highly recommended and was very easy to deal with for set up so we felt comfortable paying a small premium for such an important job for us.

I called and got an appointment immediately. A very nice man named Matt arrived exactly on time. He was courteous, friendly and extremely knowledgable. He welcomed my questions. He pointed out some other issues that needed attention, saving me a lot of time and money down the line. Turns out not only does Matt know about structural issues, he's also very knowledgable about mold issues. I sure wish i had him do my home inspection instead of someone else who was less qualified.

In response to my request for a structural inspection, I received a prompt email reply followed by a voice message on my cell phone. In the voice mail, Tammy indicated that I should leave a voice message with a call back time since she is on a phone a lot and may be unable to pick up. When I called she did pick up but was clearly multitasking and didn't take the time to make me feel at all to be a priority. I had to give her the street address I had already provided and tell her what county I live in. After a few more questions, she said the inspection would cost $450. Meanwhile, I've gotten quotes from highly rated Angie's list businesses for less than $300 for the same scope of work. They get an A for promptness, but a D or F for everything else. I quickly decided to look for services elsewhere.
Description of Work: I emailed the company requesting an estimate for a structural inspection. In the email I included the street address and zip code of the property needing inspection. I received a prompt, but high, estimate from a representative who should receive training on customer service.

Response from Criterium-Cincinnati Engineers
Clearly after my prompt reply, she did not want to pay our fee, which is fine and is her choice. I answer all questions when asked. The address given on the form does not mean it is the address of the inspection. Clearly, she misunderstood any of my attentions. I have been dealing with customers in a managerial position for over 35 years. I need no training of my job. I hope the engineer that she got served her needs as we would have.

Bill Turner arrived early and got the inspection underway. He had already been over some of the house by the time we arrived, so we missed any commentary he might have provided while working in those areas. He was friendly and clearly knowledgeable, but did not seem to want to push the inspection any harder than he had to. He did find some issues, but he also glossed over or missed things that later turned into problems, such as an old water heater with a faulty blower and some DIY electrical arrangements that were clearly not up to code. As we were leaving the basement he told us the house looked to have a new furnace; we were glad to hear that until I asked the exact age and he went back and discovered it was 17 years old. However, he was able to confirm that the house was in fundamentally good condition and we could buy with confidence. The report was just a pre-printed checklist, but it had been filled out thoroughly. Overall, Criterium-STA did an adequate job, but there are probably better inspectors out there.

The experience was excellent. We accompanied the engineers on their tour of the house, and they pointed out many structural things in the house, some FYIs, some things to bring up with the builder, some things to watch in the future, and some things that we should do after we moved in. The radon test found significant levels of radon in the basement, so we will follow up on that.
