The electrician (Dave) was impressively prompt; he showed up ten minutes BEFORE the scheduled time of 7:30 A.M. He was professional, courteous, and informative throughout the entire job. I needed a dedicated circuit in order to run a large dehumidifier in the basement. He found a broken GFI on a circuit that operates only that outlet and one outdoor outlet (which I hardly ever use), so he replaced it with a new GFI. Next, Dave removed an old lighting fixture hung from the ceiling of the kitchen and prepared to assemble and install a new chandelier. This turned out to be something of an adventure. (My house was built in 1914, so what would normally be a simple job in a newer house isn't always in mine.) Dave discovered that whoever had installed the old fixture had cut a hole in the ceiling, placed a bracket above, and re-plastered underneath, so that plaster had to be chipped away in order to get the bracket out. Once he was able to remove the bracket, he found another surprise--the old fixture had been attached to the wiring without the use of an electrical box. As if that weren't hazardous enough for whatever do-it-yourself had done this, the space between the bracket and the old fixture had been stuffed with newspaper. Dave informed me of his discoveries at every step of this process. Before removing the plaster underneath the bracket, he alerted me to the possibility of the ceiling being damaged and made sure that I wanted him to proceed with the work. He completed the work, and no ceiling damage occurred. He then removed the tarp he had placed on the kitchen floor and cleaned up the few chunks of plaster that remained on the floor. After the ceiling light excavation and chandelier installation, installing a narrow fluorescent tube light on the wall above my kitchen sink was quick and easy. When Dave finished this job, he checked the outlets I was concerned about. Both were fine. The projects took a total of about three hours to complete (the majority of it on the kitchen ceiling adventure). As in my previous experience with Cooper Electric, I couldn't ask for a more thoroughly and professionally completed job. Their prices are neither cheap nor exorbitant. Given the very high quality of the services provided, I consider them a good value.
Description of Work: Removed old lighting fixtures in kitchen; assembled and installed a new chandelier in the kitchen; installed a fluorescent light over the kitchen sink; replaced a broken GFI in the basement; checked electrical outlets in places I had concerns about.

Repair person was not ready to start the job when he arrived because he was not given complete information by the scheduler. He had to go to the hardware store to purchase a receptacle, he did a good job on the installation.

They were very good! They came out and I told them what I wanted. They gave me some suggestions and then were very prompt in doing what we decided. He put in the outlets quickly, and when I had a couple of light fixtures that weren't working properly, he gave me a suggestion of things I probably needed to follow up on.
Description of Work: They put in a box for the landscape lighting, put a light in our house, fixed some light fixtures, put some outlets in our basement, and other things.

Was terrific ... scheduler was willing to place me top of list for early morning call, so I could expect someone first thing, then get to work. Technician was friendly and very professional. As he was packing up to leave, he asked about my exposed doorbell chimes, then adjusted them slightly to get a nice ring, instead of the clunky sound it was making.

I had just installed new motion sensor lights on my front porch to replace my old ones. Shortly after installation, one of the bulbs went out. I hired Coopers to check the electrical lines. I was even able to use a coupon that I got from the Angie's List website. The electrician showed up on time and explained everything. I would highly recommend this company.

Everything went well - they were able to come that afternoon, and the man who came was very professional.
Description of Work: I live in and own a multi-family home - one of the tenants kept having the circuit breaker break. I called and Cooper was able to send someone that afternoon. After checking the circuit breakers in the unit, which seemed fine, we checked the main one in the basement, which had a loose piece. Was very thorough in checking the problem.

Dave was very pleasant and professional to work with. He took down the fixtures from the apartment and then when we discovered the chain/cord wasn't long enough to swag on the dining room chandelier, he rewired it before hanging it. I had originally thought I was going to have to swap a ceiling fan and when it turned out I could keep the fan in its current place, he agreed to install another ceiling fan for me in my guest bedroom while he was there. He did a great job installing the fan in a room that did not have a ceiling fixture, so he did the job from start to finish.
Description of Work: I had Dave from Cooper Electric take down two antique light fixtures from my apartment and then he rewired one and installed them both in my new condo. He also moved a phone box for me and installed a ceiling fan.

We did not use them because their quote was considerably higher than the others. Jack was very responsive and thorough in his estimate. He did include an extra breaker panel for our 3rd floor that we have subsequently found out was not necessary. That was a bit confusing.

I needed someone to come out that week to do an estimate on the work that needed done. We ultimately decided not to purchase the home, but had we done so, we would have used Cooper Electric. They were great at explaining everything in terms we could understand. They also let us know of the potential hazards that were involved with aluminum wiring. Apparently, aluminum wiring was very popular in the 70's as it conducted as well as copper and was loads cheaper. It expands and contracts however and has been the culprit of many house fires. Although current code does not allow aluminum wiring, it's presence in older homes has been grandfathered into the code. ($5,000.00)
Description of Work: We only got an estimate for a home we were considering purchasing, but they were extremely polite and knowledgeable and were willing to give us a free estimate. The home in consideration had aluminum wiring (known to cause fires if not properly maintained). The safest and least intrusive way to fix this problem is to 'Pigtail' copper wire onto the aluminum wire in every outlet/fixture in the home as well as have regular maintenance on your main electrical box from time to time. There is only one proper way to do 'Pigtailing' and these guys seem to be the experts in the area. Their prices seem to be right on par with what something like this should cost.

Two years ago the feed wire has loosened from the house but recently totally detached (no interruption to service). I searched Angie's List for contractors, and found Cooper who came out within 7 days of calling them to provide an estimate, driven primarily by my schedule and not their availability. When they came out to estimate, I also inquired about old wiring on my front porch, which I suspected was against code (they confirmed). During the estimation review, we went to the basement to look at the circuit breaker box, to look at the service. Jack indicated that it was a company that had previous issues and suggested that I research the company and consider replacing the box. Clearly, he didn't want me to think he was selling an upgrade. Turns out there was extensive information online about the issues, so I also contracted to have the box upgraded. I appreciated the candor and suggestion that I do some research to ensure I wasn't being sold to without cause.
Description of Work: Old cloth electric wiring was removed from an outdoor installation; the electric feed into the house was replaced, as the wire was 50+ years old, detached from the house and cracked (possibly allowing water to enter the box). Additionally, the box was upgraded and replaced.

He was prompt and knowledgeable - told us what he was going to do then did it. He cleaned up as he cut holes and installed - used a drop cloth to catch the dust. He did leave a small hole in the upper wall presumably from when he was fishing wiring to the ceiling. I did not notice the hole until after he left so I bought a patching kit at Target and fixed it myself. I didn't call Cooper to complain since he was already gone when I noticed it. If not for that one item my overall rating would be an "A." The day he installed the fan was when the temperature was 90+ and he didn't reschedule or complain about being in the attic.
Description of Work: Installed 2 ceiling fans - one in a vaulted ceiling. We purchased the fans - the installer cut holes for them, assembled the fans, ran the electric work and installed the fans. He crawled in the attic to install a bedroom fan. He found a way to install the fan in the vaulted ceiling that avoided cutting additional holes in the plaster. The final cost within $5 of the estimate. I called/interviewed 3 companies and checked Angie's List ratings before hiring Cooper.
