Overall the work was done well and Mike was a pleasant and highly qualified guy.
Description of Work: Because a built-in bookcase is about to cover a needed outlet, Cooper tapped into a nearby outlet and added wire, under conduit, to a new receptacle about five feet away. I was told charges would be $56. for the trip and $40.00 per half hour of work. Mike was at my house for roughly 2 1/2 hours and asked for $400.00 when he finished. I mentioned that was more than I expected and he explained that some of the electrical supplies he used were expensive. 140 bucks for five feet of wire and conduit and two outlet boxes? If so, I would recommend they begin shopping at Ace or the like. When he left, he placed a "Cooper Electric" sign in the front yard. It is the first time in forty years a tradesman has done that without my permission or approval. Not the end of the world but I found it discourteous.

Response from Cooper Electric
Thank you for your feedback. We apologize that the yard sign was placed in your yard without approval. We typically do ask the homeowner prior to placing a yard sign, and we will work to correct that for future customers. For the discrepancy on pricing, diagnostic work and troubleshooting is quoted on a trip charge and half hour rate. Added wiring, which your scope of work appears to have been is completed in a estimated lump sum contract. However, again, we will work to correct these types of issues so that our customers continue to see value in our services. We are happy that you were pleased with the quality of our work and Mike our craftsman. Regards, Gil Hyland Cooper Electric

They seemed to do everything fairly well. There was an issue with communication and they missed a couple of outlets. I had to check a few things myself.

Response from Cooper Electric
This house was built in 1970 which was in the time frame of aluminum branch circuit wiring. Aluminum branch circuiting wiring has to be corrected at every outlet, switch, light, and then any and all other electrical openings. Which also includes the service. Therefore, this scope of work was very sizable. However, we apologize if you felt the need to check things out, as any homeowner would. You also are covered by our 10 year warranty.

The electrician from Cooper arrived early and went straight to work. He was courteous and knowledgeable. When the work was completed to my satisfaction, he went out of his way to clean up the mess created by the labor.
Description of Work: Installed a 20-amp 120-volt refrigerator circuit with a GFI receptacle and abandoned the wiring and switch to a ceiling light fixture. Rewired the remaining ceiling light fixture and moved the remaining switch to the adjacent wall. Grounded an additional receptacle and abandoned the wiring to two sconces above the fireplace.

Everything was done as requested. Technician asked if I had coupon(I didn't), He gave me $30 credit for coupon, otherwise total cost would have been $648.95.
Description of Work: Installed two electrical outlets in garage ceiling.(1 for garage door opener) Installed front outside electrical box and outside electrical box on back deck. Switched wiring in bathroom per my request so switch closest to door turned on light. Replaced electrical receptical by bathroom sink per my request. Charge was for 4 and 1/2 hrs plus parts. I called Cooper Electric on Tuesday with my dilemma and was told someone could come over on Weds. afternoon. Our washer, dryer, and vent fan went out and Tony figured out that we had a bad connection- a neutral line was out- something of that nature. Everything was fixed within a 1/2 hour and he worked FAST! There was no dilly dallying, that's for sure. He was speedy, friendly, and knowledgeable. I will definitely use these guys again. And I got to use my $10 off coupon!
Description of Work: My washer, dryer, and vent fan stopped working all at the same time, and I knew it wasn't a tripped circuit breaker. I needed a diagnosis and remedy.

They came to the house the previous friday and gave us a free estimate. They adviced that we needed a subpanel, and helped us decide where to place outdoor outlets. They returned the following tuesday, and came fully prepared to complete the job. They did what they said they would and were extremely professional. We will def. use them again.

Tony called to let me know he was in route and would be there at 7:45 am. When he arrived, I introduced him to both of our Newfoundlands so they would feel comfortable with a stranger in their home and wouldn't have the need to follow him around and sit on his lap, he was very accomidating w/ the dogs.I explained that our house is under contract to be sold, the home inspection revealed minor problems ,w/ one exception. The inspector noted no splices allowed in the panel.Tony indicated this was wrong information, and then spoke to other master electricians who agreed w/ his findings. He put everything in writting and if the inspector has any questions, he should call the office at Cooper electric. Our closing went as planned, thanks to the knowledgeable technician who works for a company with integrity
Description of Work: Repaired a double tap circut heater in panel, replaced outlet that wasn't properly installed w/ a GFI and grounded it,rewired a dead receptacle w/ a GFI,installed a new connector on garbage disposal, installed 2 junction boxes in attic on open splices, replaced 2 recep in garage w GFI and install a switch cover. In panel replaced 30 amp CB w/ a 20 amp CB to prevent over fusing, install missing screws, and filed blank in panel

I called for an estimate on a Tuesday. Jack was able to come to my home the next day. He was prompt, informative and his visit lasted only 10-15 minutes. I then had a written estimate mailed to me by Saturday. We had no frame of reference for the cost for this type of work, but were pleased by the quote. It was less than we thought and seemed reasonable after reviewing Angie's List and considering the size of our project. I called on Monday morning to schedule the work and they were able to come out a week later. They were able to come sooner, but we needed time to purchase the fans. I was concerned that the job could take more than one day, so they added a second electrician for the first half of the day to ensure the job was done in one day. Both electricians were courteous and friendly and represented Cooper Electric very well. The job was done in about seven hours and they left my home as clean as it was when they arrived. I believe we were fortunate to have attic access to all the rooms to allow for an easier wiring job.
Description of Work: Bedrooms and office had no overhead lighting. Had all four bedrooms upstairs plus separate office downstairs wired for ceiling fans with lights. They also installed all the ceiling fans with lights that we purchased separately.

The company sent someone out pretty quickly and he took the time to sort out our strange wiring and make it more straightforward. It took about a day and a half, but everything got fixed and is the way we want it.
Description of Work: Sorted out a weird wiring set-up in the basement of our new house. Re-wired outlets so that they would not turn off when we turned the lights out via wall switch. Re-wiring also helped with us continually tripping the circuits in some rooms.

They replaced our ceiling fan a couple of years ago. The fan that had to be replaced was located over the flight of stairs and there was no reasonable way to get up there. The workers had to build a staff up and stand up on it to replace the fan. It looked very monumental and they did a good job. The other problem we had was that the fan we bought didn't have the right parts on it and they couldn't fix the new fan. We had to rush to the nearby store and get a piece for them to complete their job. It wasn't their fault but they didn't charge us extra for that.

It went very well. The electrician arrived when stated and worked throughout the day without lunch. Finished the project around 3 p.m. Company took care of all the details, including inspection at our convenience.
Description of Work: Had a new electrical box installed. Involved taking out the old electrical box which was over 40 years old, removing and installing new wiring on the outside from the utility company's feed to the electric box and installing a new box with more amps. The reason for the change was the wiring on the outside of the house had deteriorated with age and water was getting into the box. Made certain all the electric power in the house worked once the new box was installed.

We had the top half of a tree break off in the high winds of Hurricane Ike. It came down and knocked the power line down off the house. Power was still on afterward...until all the power in the city went out that is! Anyway, the power line was laying in the yard, but was still attached. The weather head had popped off the side of the house. I called Cooper, the morning after the storm (on Monday)...they came out a few hours later! I couldn't believe it. Dave was great to work with. He did an excellent job. We've used Cooper Electric in the past based off a recommendation. We've been happy every time. We contracted them to replace the aluminum wiring in our 1966 house. There aren't many companies in the area trained in how to do this. I was happy to have them do the work and they brought other issues to my attention that could have posed serious risk to myself and family. I appreciate their level of professionalism.

Mike the electrician was punctual, very professional and was able to install all the lights in our existing ceiling without damaging the ceiling at all. We were told by another electrical company that there would be noticeable damage to the ceiling and wall with the installation. Mike did not leave a mark anywhere and cleaned up after himself as well. He was also able to complete the job in less than one day when we had been told the job may take one full day plus and additional 3 hours the next day. He also demonstrated how to use the lights. I felt very comfortable with him in my home.

Went beautifully! I called Cooper Electric and an hour later the electrician was at my home. He called me at work to explain the repairs and he gave me a quote on the cost of the job. Thirty minutes later, he called to say the work was completed at a cost less than his original quote. I paid via credit card over the phone and the Cooper electrician left a receipt in my door. He even told me exactly what to tell Duke Energy in order to have them come to the house to finalize the repairs. Wonderful experience!
