We called Cooper Electric based on a recommendation from a friend. Tony came out the next day. We had a light fixture that we weren't sure was electrically sound. We have an old house with old knob and tube wiring leftover along with new wiring. Tony repaired the immediate problem that day, and gave us an estimate for additional work when we felt we could do it. He explained what he was doing the whole way and put up with all of our questions. We thought he did a good job!
Description of Work: We had electrically unsound wiring feeding a light fixture that was diagnosed, repaired and given suggestions for updated wiring.

I had raccoons in the attic and I called the pest control company. While they were getting the raccoons out the technician pointed out that there was some frayed wiring up there. He suggested that I call an electrician and get the wiring fixed before he finished the job. I did that. The electrician was courteous and professional. I have no complaints, but I thought he was very expensive for what he did.

They said they'd be there at 7:30 and Anthony was punctual. He had me clear everything I could out of the bathroom b/c it was going to get messy. He put down plastic to collect all of the debris. It took him about 1.5 hours to complete the job. He did need to re-crimp the wiring for the bathroom fan, so I'm glad I chose the safer route. The $225 price includes the use of the Angie's List coupon. I would definitely use Cooper Electric for any future electrical needs, I trust that they know what they're doing. When it comes to electrical that counts for a lot.
Description of Work: I had Cooper electric install a new bathroom fan. My house has aluminum wiring, a previous owner had all of the proper crimping done, which Cooper completed. I thought it would be safer to have an electrician replace the bathroom fan b/c of the crimping need than a handyman and I was correct.

We had a good experience with them. We had used them before for several jobs. We keep going back to them because when they leave, you don't realize that they were there except all of a sudden you have the finished work. There is never a mess that is left. They are very clean and very considerate. They were right on time.
Description of Work: Cooper Electric moved a light box for us and installed an exterior light. They are still in the process of repairing an exterior security light. We have had them install ceiling fans in the past as well.

The contractor arrived on time to give us an estimate. Since I'd already had previous estimates, I pretty much knew what to expect pricewise. His estimate came in higher than one and lower than another. I decided to have Cooper do the job because he seemed confident he could hang the lights without extra cuts in the drywall and he was able to do the job that day. As it turned out, he was able to look through recessed lighting we already had in the ceiling and fish the wire for the new lights without cutting into the drywall which pleased me greatly. The lights were hung and the dimmer switch was installed without any problems whatsoever. I'm a very happy customer!
Description of Work: We had two pendant lights installed over our kitchen island and a dimmer switch. We provided the lights. I wanted the lights installed without cutting the drywall except where the lights would hang. I have a stamped ceiling and I've never seen a stamped ceiling patch well. We also wanted to avoid having to paint the ceiling as it's a newer home and it didn't need painting.

The electrician was very punctual. I had an early morning appointment so I wouldn't have to miss work and I appreciated that. He was kind, clean and personable. He even gave me information about other types of work I'd like to have done in the future. The only thing I had second thought on was the price. I marked this as n/a because I didn't get other estimates and since I hadn't had an electrician out before I don't know comparable rates and I wouldn't want to be unfair. But I did feel that $80 to tighten the wiring was somewhat pricey. Again not knowing comparables this could be normal price.
Description of Work: I had a problem with an electrical outlet that had begin sparking and then it affected another outlet causing the electricity from it to go out. Electrician said that it was loose wiring and he tighten the wiring and added a cover plate.

We lost power to one of the house circuits. Electrician came to the house, as scheduled, to repair the circuit, which he did. Electrician also found and tightened a loose connection between the power mains and the junction box in the basement, which could have led to a catastrophic failure in time. Electrician also found and alerted us to a problem with mains being exposed to the elements where they lead from the meter outside the house. Scheduling this repair as well. Impressed with the electrician's professionalism and diligence in finding and addressing problems that could have caused major inconvenience and/or damage in time.

There were courteous, professional and cleaned up after themselves. They answered all my questions. The reason that I marked that I wouldn?t use them again was the price. Their work was top notch, but I found their bill to be a little excessive.
Description of Work: They installed two 20amp circuit breakers and receptacles in an unfinished basement. They installed an outside floodlight. It was on the second story. They prepared three bedrooms for overhead fans. They installed the fan boxes and switches.

The most recent time they replaced wiring in a bedroom ceiling fixture. I had the ceiling dry walled and the contractor told me that all of the wiring would need to be replaced. I called Steve Cooper and his crew came out, accessed the situation, replaced necessary wiring but all the wiring did not have to be replaced. I appreciate their honesty.

I would have been more satisfied with my teenage nephew doing the work and possibly have a working doorbell.
Description of Work: "Master" electrician couldn't figure out how to rewire my doorbell/intercom properly but charged me anyway. He also charged me travel time to pick up necessary items to replace 2 outlets, which I was charged $110 for the 2. A profesional would have said they would come back to install once he had the parts. This was a really bad experience.

Response from Cooper Electric
This customer HAS NOT told the entire story. Painters had cut approximately 18 individual wires to the old intercom/doorbell unit and left all of these wires unmarked. The product that the homeowner purchased to replace the old intercom/doorbell was not the same make and model as the existing intercom system and was incompatible. Furthermore, new carpeting had just been laid on top of the floor receptacle locations. These locations had improper existing boxes with missing covers that were not in compliance with the proper floor receptacle units acceptable with the National Electrical Code. The proper floor receptacles are unique items that are not every day and not stocked on a normal service truck, do to the fact they are very rarely asked for by the typical home owner. The customer had no complaints when informed of any and all issues while we were inside of the home and performing the tasks to complete the job. The receptacles were installed properly and working well. Finally, assassinating our character as a reputable business, without providing all of the facts is unfair to us and our loyal Angie’s List customers who have made us a Super Service Award Winner for the past 9 years. Regards, Gil Hyland, Cooper Electric.

I scheduled a next day appointment with their guy who quotes the job. He was on time and took about a half hour to look at the inspection report and the home. He provided an estimate the next day, and the work was scheduled for the day after that. The technician arrived on time, repaired all issues in less than an hour and gave me advice on maintaining appliances and electrical systems. I have used Cooper for two decades for personal and business issues and while they might not cost the least, they are always responsive, professional and fair.

Dave arrived promptly at 9:15 despite the severe snow storm and began the search to find the source of the problem. Around 11:30 or so he called for Tony to come so that he could be in the attic while Dave monitored the status from below. Finally at nearly 2:00 they had old wires disconnected and new ones connected, and everything working. Days later I found that the light to the ceiling fan was not working, and when I called to tell them, they immediately sent Dave back. By the time he arrived, I realized the switch on the fixture hadn't been pulled. I appreciate the prompt attention Cooper gave me when I called and the courteous manners of both Dave and Tony while at my home. My sole reason for the C grade deals with the price. Although it was made VERY clear to me when I first called to set up the appointment how much the cost would be, I, of course, had no idea how long it would take, nor that it would end up requiring two men, and thus $547 after a $15 discount. I have used Cooper Electric before, but should I need future electrical work, I will try to find someone else who is also reliable, but less expensive.
Description of Work: Found the cause of and corrected no electrical power to several areas of two rooms.
