They were prompt, clean and did a good job. However, we did have 2 issues: 1. The HeatShield product that the used to repair the chimney comes with a warranty. The warranty card was found flying about our yard a week later after snow and rain. The installers should have filled out the portion they need to and given the card to us to complete and mail in. When we found the card (tattered) I called the manufacturer to get a new one and forwarded it to Chimney Works to complete their portion and we got the issue resolved promptly. This is why I downgraded the Professionalism to a "B". 2. There was a small area of the job that was peeling within a few weeks. I called and they came out and inspected it and repaired it with no problem.
Description of Work: We had our fireplace and chimney inspected by another company and were told it needed repair, relining or an insert installed, if we chose to go that route. All of the options were rather costly but we decided we would go with the less expensive option of repairing the chimney. I called Chimney Works on a recommendation from a co-worker for a quote on the work to be done. They gave us a price nearly half of the other chimney service.

All workers were very tidy and professional, but we ran into a couple of issues. First, the installers thought originally that there was a gas line to the fireplace, but apparently this have been cut years ago. We had to call a plumber to reconnect and this was an additional $500. Now the fireplace will not stay lit, and after having called Chimney Works this AM, they said they would send someone out for a $90 fee. Since this has not even been installed for a month, I feel that they should comeback out at no charge (we have used the fireplace less than 5 times). Make sure you investigate their warranty before you sign on the dotted line because apparently it is virtually nonexistent on inserts.--Update, Chimney Works did come back out this AM at no charge and made some adjustments--fireplace works fine now.

Workmen arrived within the time window, and worked strait through until the job was done, about 4 hours. Removed the old insert with minimal effort, and no damage, and installed the new insert very professionally. carted away all waste. Exterior masonry work was performed very professionally, and looked very clean afterward. Am very happy with the result.

The chimney works is a top notch organization from the very top, Millard, to my technician Mike. The chimney they evaluated was at my rental property. I knew before it was inspected that the age of the fireplace would be an issue. My tenants kept pressuring me to see if it was safe. As a landlord, I need my tenants to be safe and it is why I had refused to let them use it. Mike did a complete evaluate that included a video inspection. He took the time to show my tenants why the fireplace was not safe to use. While that may not have been normal practice, it was the right thing to do for a tenant and a landlord. Often tenants think that what a landlord says is just because they don't want to pay for the inspection, or that just do not want them to do something. Showing my tenant relieved me from having to deal with a tenant that seldom shows any common sense. Mike called back and corrected misinfo! Ashley and Kathy were great!

Their quote was less than half the price of another quote that I've got. They were fast, they did a great job. I've seen what they have done. They did the job in two hours. They came, they did the job, they went away and it was perfect. I am absolutely happy. They came on time for the quotes. They gave me the quote and I scheduled the date.

Steve came out to discuss reline options. (We discovered the chimney needed repair when it was cleaned earlier this year by a different company.) Originally considered having them resurface it with Heat Shield, but decided to go with a stainless steel reline for the lifetime warranty, much less chance of product issues (than Heat Shield), and potential use with a gas insert if we ever decide not to burn wood. We had 30 days to accept the offer, but decided in a few days. Reline was scheduled for 2 weeks later. Tom and Ryan did the work. They were punctual, professional, and answered questions. After removing the fireplace screen/cover/damper assembly, they removed the existing tile from inside the chimney and installed the liner which they had wrapped with a blanket of insulation. A circular chimney cap was installed to replace the existing square cap because the liner is round. Breaking up the tile was slightly noisy, although not annoying, and not messy/dusty because they covered the fireplace opening with plywood, had a vacuum running to collect the dust, and covered the floor with a tarp. Broken tiles and pieces of brick (internal to the chimney, not external) were taken out in buckets. They also sealed the crack in the crown and tuckpointed the fireplace per the work order. Neighborhood kids getting off the school bus were amazed to see men standing on the roof fitting a long metal liner down into the chimney. Tom and Ryan did return a week later when we asked them to lower the height of the exposed liner visible from the top of the chimney. Everyone involved was pleasant to work with. Tom and Ryan did a great job, and they cleaned up the work areas before they left. Although we have not used the fireplace yet and do not anticipate any issues, we feel confident if any problems or questions arise, they would be addressed promptly. Should that occur, we can update the review.

They came out to give us a quote, and explained the difference between the types of fireplace inserts available; helping us to choose the one that meets our needs the most. The techs were very careful to not let our cats out of the house while they were working on the removal of the old fireplace, and they were also very good about moving all of our furniture out of the way. The install worked well, and we can't wait for the first cool night to use our new fireplace.

I had an estimate from another company who stated that the whole chimney had to be torn down and rebuilt. I was already having to put a new roof on so I was not happy about the added cost of rebuilding the chimney. When I had Chimney Works come out they stated I did not have to have the expense of rebuild and that it could be repaired. A year later I sold the house and the chimney passed with flying colors on the home inspection! Very appreciative of the money that Chimney Works saved me.

From beginning to end, Chimney Works was professional and hard working. Just getting up to this chimney was probably the biggest challenge of this particular job. The house is very tall and the roof very steep. Nevertheless, the estimator crawled up there (alone) with "cougar claws" and snapped pictures of the chimney from several angles. As homeowners, it was the first time we could actually view what things looked like up there and we were most appreciative of these photos!! We had three other estimates for this work. Chimney Works was the only estimator who actually went up on the roof and again, the pictures were so helpful in our decision. Secondly, we found the cost for this work to be very fair and most reasonable, given the nature of the work. The crew that arrived for all the masonry/rebuild work were hardworking and reliable. They set up some impressive scaffolding and as they dismantled the chimney parts that were in disrepair, they carefully lowered these pieces to the ground, using a pulley system. The house, the roof, the gutters, the deck and the yard were protected during all phases of this substantial project. These guys did a terrific job, especially considering the weather was extraordinarily hot and humid. They were efficient and for what it's worth, very polite and respectful. Definitely a team of pros. After enough time passed for the mortar to set, it was time for the waterproofing and new cap. With all the scaffolding removed after the rebuild phase, it was a challenge for the sealant team (of two) to get to the chimney for their part of the project. Finally, a smaller scaffold was used to assist in the work and 2 coats of sealant were applied and new cap installed, in one afternoon. Payment was not due until the whole project completed. We would highly recommend Chimney Work & Rocky Mountain Stoves for any chimney work one might need. From the company's initial visit to the completion of all the work, they were professional, reasonably priced, highly competent and a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Several top rows of a (very large) chimney removed and rebuilt. Original crown also removed and a new crown built in its place. Tuck pointing done on remaining portion of chimney. Then, entire chimney waterproofed with sealant and new cap put into place.

Chimney was swept and inspected on initial visit by Mike. Linings for wood fireplace and oil furnace were found to be in poor condition. Chimney crown was found to be cracked. Estimate with different repair options was provided. Mike was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. Mike and Joey returned to install Heat Shield lining in the fireplace chimney, apply crown coat, and water repellent. Stainless steel liner was supposed to be put in the oil furnace chimney; however, Mike discovered that the liner he had available was too large. This repair had to be rescheduled. The other repairs were completed in one day. I did have some difficulty getting in contact again with Mike to find out the status of the stainless liner due to differences in our schedule. It turned out that the stainless steel liners are not manufactured in the size that our chimney needed. Mike offered to install the Heat Shield for the oil furnace at the same price as what the stainless liner would have been (Heat Shield was more expensive). We agreed and Mike and Joey came out again a few weeks later and completed the work in one day. Mike and Joey did quality work at a fair price and I will use them for chimney work in the future. The only negative aspects of the service was the communication break down at times and the unavailability of the stainless liner. *Note: In regards to the Heat Shield liner keep in mind that it must dry for approximately 48 hours, so the chimney/furnace cannot be used during that time. It may be best to make this type of repair in warmer weather.

I live in a house that is close to 100 years old and the existing chimney had a lot of mortar missing and was also leaning. I called Chimney Works and arranged for them to come out to give me an estimate. They came out and said that the best way to fix the problem would be to rebuild the chimney and also to remove and rebuild the crown. The work was originally going to take a couple of days, but since rain was forecast for the week the work was scheduled, they actually added more men to the work crew and the chimney rebuild was completed in one day. They were all professional and the work area was left spotless after they left. I'm very happy with the way my new chimney looks.

My experience with Chimney Works was a very pleasant one. Their quote was the lowest and another company actually quoted identical services down to the same products/sealant and they were priced nearly twice as high as Chimney Works. They actually came out the week between Christmas and New Year and did the sealing, which workded great since we were entertaining on New Year's Eve and wanted to have a party. The two guys that came out were very friendly and efficient. There is still some very minimal leaking when we get a deluge of rain, but it is a fraction of what we had before and we are once again able to use our chimney.
Description of Work: I was very satisfied with my experience with Chimney Works. We had bought a new house recently and we had significant leaking in our chimney when there was a heavy rain. I received several estimates, with a range of services recommended, ranging from some water sealing of the chimney crown and brick to overall replacing some brick and masonry. The costs ranged from $800 - $2,200 As I learned through the process, leaking chimneys are a process of elimination. Basically most of the companies had their recommendations on how to remedy the situation, but they couldn't guarantee that it would work for certain. Considering this, I figured it probably best if I went with the lowest price option, hoping this would work rather than spending more with no guarantee of success. Chimney Works had the lowest estimate and they seemed confident it would deal with our issues.

This is the first time we had use them, we were very pleased, and we would use them again. They were very efficient. A job like that can be really dirty but they used their vacuum and cleaned up well. They put the drop cloth down in the room and they have a big vacuum that they bring in with them which sucks all the soot and everything from the house to the truck. It is really amazing. They were great.

I had 3 estimates and this company's estimate was the middle one. I chose them because the gentleman actually went on the roof to inspect the chimney as opposed to looking up from the ground. He was very informative and polite. Since the work was outside, I didn't have to be home, which was great. There was no sign of a mess that anyone had been there. Although I gave them a A overall, when I called about questions concerning some of the work and it took a while(3 phone calls) before someone responded. But they come out and took care of my concerns and that was appreciated.
Description of Work: I had been having water coming in under the mantle of the fireplace whenever there was a bad rain. I had tuck pointing, the flashing was sealed, caulking between the chimney and the siding of the house, the entire chimney was sealed, and a chimney cap was installed.

Overall a good experience. We received an estimate from Chimney Works quickly and I felt Steve was honest and up front about our chimney repair situation. After getting competitive bids, I called him back with further questions that he was happy to answer. His estimate was competitive (a bit lower) with another company I contacted. The workers were professional and finished all work in one day. When they were finished, I had them show me the work they did and they were happy to answer all of my questions.

Chimney cleaned/sweeped - only complaint I would have was that when I called to setup an appointment, they should have told me that it would cost $109.00 per fireplace - I was told $109.00 plus tax for cleaning but when technician arrived was told that the cost would be double because I had two fireplaces using the same chimney.

I bought a house that was 4 years old, and the seller had Chimney Works go to the house to repair a couple of dampers that were not working properly. After I took over the house, I called Chimney Works to sweep the chimney, since they already had done work on both of the fireplaces. When they came to do a chimney sweep, it was a couple of younger guys that were extremely nice and professional. However, as I started talking to them, it came out that when they were last at my house, they didn't exactly fix my dampers completely. They apparently did what they could, but couldn't completely fix the issue. While it is a heavy damper design, I wish that they would have let me know of this issue before I had taken over the house (they charged $275 for that on the first visit). As they then came in to do the chimney sweep, they were very careful with the furniture and very careful with the dropcloth-- which I really appreciated. However, after they "inspected" the chimney, they came back with a conclusion that they couldn't do a chimney sweep because there was too much glaze build-up, and that I needed to do an $800 rotary clean! (vs the $120 chimney sweep) In addition, they went on to say that there was a risk to damaging the mortar with the ro clean, and that would potentially lead to installing a new insert and other things. By the time we were finished with the conversation, this chimney was going to cost me thousands of dollars....on a well-built 4 year old house! I obviously went and got a couple of different opinions on this before I blindly took their advice, and I'm so glad that I did that. I had 2 other chimney sweep companies come out (both with very good reviews on Angie's List). They both were older gentlemen that had been in the business for a long time. Both did an inspection, and had said that all I needed was a regular chimney sweep, and all the rest about a ro clean, and the other things discussed with Chimney Works was totally unnecessary. Additionally, the new company I used properly fixed both of the faulty dampers-- something that Chimney Works wasn't able to do properly the first time they came out to my house.
Description of Work: Paid them to fix 2 faulty dampers (that weren't entirely fixed), and then arranged for them to do a chimney sweep that they ended up not doing, because they said that I needed a "ro clean" instead ($800 vs $120).

Every year we have the fireplace flue cleaned. The young man came out and cleaned the fireplace, but he also spent time up on the roof and when he came down, he had a list of rather expensive "repairs" he felt needed to be made. Since we have this checked every year, we will have to have someone else come in and look at it. Seems strange that everyone else missed a $2,000 repair! He'd also told me that things slowed down after January. I really questioned whether he was booking business for the slow season. Don't really know if I'd have them again. Depends on what another company says.
