Wonderful! This was my first experience with a chimney sweep. Jason was very informative, considerate and thorough. He explained the whole process as he went along and made sure I understood. We ended up having a crack in several tiles and he explained what it meant and how to proceed. I will be making a claim with home owners insurance and he will continue to assist thru this process. Excellent customer service and punctuality!

Description of Work: Gas fireplace was not working properly when called for appointment. After using the first time we noticed it was working better than before. Service tech checked it out and said there was no need for repair so we would not be charged for the trip. We appreciate the honesty and professionalism.

Scheduled an inspection a week in advance and agreed on a 12pm - 3pm window. No call, no show. I scheduled the appointment by telephone directly so this had nothing to do with Angie's List Storefront. If you're going to run a business, please have the professionalism to show up for your appointments.

It went mostly fine. When they come again, I'm going to have a little bit of a talk with them. They didn't put the end cap on properly so I've got soot coming out of it. He did okay. They didn't damage anything. You just have to keep an eye on what they do. I wasn't paying strict attention.

We were told they would arrive between 9-10am. They called to inform us they were on there way. Arriving at about 9:30am and went to work. Laid tarps on the floor. One went up on the roof, the other worked inside the fire place removing the old flue and liner. they carrying all of the debris out from inside with buckets. They work all day never stopping until they were finished, vacuumed all the floor. When the two young men left you would never know they had been here! This was a great experience and I have already recommended them to others. I will use them in the future1

I called these guys because my chimney leaked on occasion during extended heavy rains. They completed the work and determined the flashing was fine. My chimney continues to leak occasionally although not as much as before. I called Chimney Works and they came back and tested for a leak with my garden hose. Could not find leak but technician did a little caulking. Chimney leaked again, 2 large bucketfuls. They sent another technician who filmed the inside of my chimney (in June 2015) and said he would send a report I could submit to my insurance company. It is now Almost Thanksgiving and I still have not received the report. I have called Chimney Works since then and was told the technician would be in touch with me. I called the technician once and left a voice-mail, never heard back. I've paid them $2000 to fix the leak, it still leaks and they don't return my calls........the work they did looks great but it did not fix the leak which is why I called them in the first place.....

Overall, the installation was very good. This is not a review of the Hampton insert, as we haven't had a chance to use it yet. I gave a couple of "B" scores for a couple of minor issues. We scheduled the installation about 6 weeks ahead of time so that we could have our desired day. A few days before the scheduled date, the office phoned us to reschedule because they were going to be off on our scheduled day. We had to change or work schedules because of this. Brandon and his helper arrived on time for the installation. They put tarps down and kept the area clean. One negative I had was that they did not have a drill with them. I guess they had forgotten it. They had to use our drill. Another minor negative comment was that they used our outside water without checking with us first. One of our spigots is broken, and they, of course, used the broken one. We would have appreciated them checking with us before turning on the water. Other than that, the stove looks very nice in our living room. We cannot wait to try it out this fall. I would recommend Chimney Works to others and will be using them for our annual chimney cleaning.

The crew was both punctual and professional. Also they were personable, and accommodating as well, especially the crew chief. I was very leased, in the end, at having selected Chimney Works, as the level of service was very high. The work proceeded quickly and efficiently as far as i could see. Where follow-up work was required ( a minor fitment issue which caused a brief delay), it was handled quickly and with the usual professionalism I'd quickly come to expect. Well done, Chimney Works.

The office staff are very pleasant. There does appear to be some communication issues, e.g., who will do the work and when, lack of confirming dates and such. Fortunately, I was not in a big rush, just needed the work done soon, 8-10 weeks. I still am not sure if the guys who did the work were employees or subcontractors, but the job was well done; hard working guys who cleaned up their construction mess. There was also a communication glitch in putting on the metal cap, but when pointed out was taken care of pretty quick. Their prices are mid-range and seemed reasonable. If you want tight communication on a tight timeline with minimal calls, this group might not suit you. Again, the job was well done and I am happy with the final result.

My boyfriend and I have been living in our current condo since May 2007. It came to my attention, that since we have a fireplace, a chimney sweep is not provided from our condo fees with the association, and we are responsible for it ourselves. Since we used our fireplace quite a bit last year, I just wanted a professional to come out and clean it and assess our situation. Of course I didn't know anything about our chimney whether it was lined, or unlined, but my boyfriend looked and he believed it was lined. I had the appointment scheduled for a time frame of 1 - 3 pm. The reason I gave a "B" on punctuality was because I had just gotten out of the shower a little after noon, and Brandon, our chimney sweep called and asked if we minded if he came early because he could be there in 20 minutes. (Before 1 pm). But, they did call ahead as I was told by a girl who had answered the phone in the office, so I was appreciative of that. I was also impressed because it sounded like he did his homework and started going into a very detailed description of our fireplace on the phone before he even got here, so maybe he did some research? And, my boyfriend was right, it was lined, which is a lesser expensive sweep. It was very quick, and he reassured us that even though this had been the first time we had a sweep since we moved in, that the fireplace really wasn't that bad. It was supposed to be $149 plus tax, but I had a coupon from one of our local mailers for $20 off, so it was $129 plus tax. It was a very tidy and quick process as I didn't know what to expect and we have very light colored carpet coming up to our fireplace. Brandon was very professional and did a good job with the sweep and answering some questions we had. He emailed a receipt for the services immediately to my email. I would use them again.

This project didn't go well. 1. The team didn't have the experience I was promised. When I called to tell them they were hired, I inquired about the experience of the team I would have and the guy assured me that I would have two of their most experienced people working on the project. They showed up with one very experienced person and one person who was new (in training). 2. They didn't seal one fireplace opening correctly and there was dust everywhere. They got the tiles out of the first chimney fine. However, the trainee didn't appropriately cover the firebox in the second chimney and when I walked into the Great Room as they were breaking out the tiles, there was dust (from sooty clay tiles) everywhere. The dust settled on every horizontal surface on the main floor of our home -- and the only way to remove it was to take a damp cloth over everything, My husband and I spent about 8 hours cleaning up that mess. 3. They said our chimney crowns needed additional work. We opted to have them apply Crown Coat. After a couple of weeks, the Crown Coat that they put on started to come loose from the edge of one of the chimneys. I called the company's owner. He was very patient and listened to me go through the entire project. He offered to send out a new technician to look at the Crown Coat. The new guy looks at it and then tells me that our chimney crown is coming apart...that it is holding moisture and that the Crown Coat probably won't hold --and they would replace it today, but won't replace it a third time if it comes lose again. On top of that, he said we are missing mortar in the first three courses of the chimney and we need the top part of the chimney rebuilt and new crowns. When I asked why a guy spent almost 2 days working on our chimneys but didn't tell me this...he politely said the guy may have been afraid to tell me the bad news. This new guy gives me an estimate for rebuilding the 3 courses of brick on both chimneys and new crowns...and adjusted the bill to acknowledge the issues with the Crown Coat. 4. Poor follow-up. They did not complete the warranty information. I had to call and ask for it. 5. In general, sloppy work. They put the screen on one fireplace in upside-down, scratched another fireplace screen and got crown coat on the brick of one chimney (which needs acid to remove). We asked them to paint the stainless steel chimney caps black -- and they did an awful job at that. 6. Little confidence in their work. After all we had been through on this project, my husband had little confidence in the work that was done. As a result, he asked someone to come in and inspect the metal liner installation and give us his opinion on whether it was done correctly. Fortunately, the guy said it looked like the liner was installed correctly. However, he said our chimneys should have been power cleaned to take off the moss before they put on the brick sealer. Since that wasn't done...they basically sealed in the moss causing our chimney to permanently look dirty. Needless to say, we are getting other quotes for the remaining brick work and crowns...will we not be using Chimney Works again.
Description of Work: They removed the clay liner tiles from 2 chimneys and installed metal liners, seal coated both chimney crowns, water proofed the brick of both chimneys and tuck/pointed both fire boxes.

It was kind of spacing up, its not concrete like a ceramic that has got a concrete sort of consistency. The liner is a 20 year sort of guaranteed liner and then they put three big chimneys, one of them three storeys and the other two two storeys. They had to get a 40 foot ladder, that's how high up these things were and then one of them in the basement and the other two in the ground floor. They also put what they call secondary air in my request in the two ground floor chimneys.

I wish they could have picked out more of the loose concrete, however, as new cracks are forming in the same areas they repaired.Given the price, it was an OK job -- but I suspect I'll have to have it re-done in a couple of years. I do not remember the date of service or the cost. I did have a coupon from Reach Mag.
