During Thanksgiving we had a big, long rain. By the weekend, we realized we had a leak coming from our roof and/or chimney. After contacting roofers, they recommended we call Bruce Ryan because of the scaffolding required to repair our chimney as well as the quality of his work. I contacted Bruce that afternoon and within a couple of days he started work. Bruce Ryan and his crew did an excellent job of repairing our chimney. The old and new areas of the chimney blend seamlessly. It looks like we have a new chimney. They were prompt, personable and professional. I would recommend Bruce Ryan to others.
Description of Work: Four stories of scaffolding set up in order to remove damaged cement crown and top 4 courses of brick. We supplied replacement brick and Bruce Ryan supplied the new limestone cap. Two new top clay flue liners were set into the stone. All masonry work was cleaned up and hauled away.

I was amazed at the speed and efficiency and professionalism of Mr. Ryan and his crew of three. In 22 hours the job was complete. And while I was fretting as I watched the limestone cap hoisted up forty feet of scaffolding ... for them it was 'another day at the office'. They won the heart of our big fuzzy dog with lots of pets, who felt it her job to periodically superintend the work with enthusiastic barking!
Description of Work: Fifty-five year old chimney was deteriorating and leaking water as evidenced by the interior plaster beginning to buckle and bubble. Had NO idea who to contact for bids. Used Angie's List ... got three estimates and Mr. Ryan's was the most complete, comprehensive and understandable of the three. Crumbling brick and mortar and a cement cap had to be replaced after a thorough powerwash and a new system installed. We asked if the job could be done in mid-summer ... no problem. We now have a water tight, newly capped chimney and I can get my living room painted!

Bruce Ryan and his crew began the job when they said they would, finished in a timely fashion even with some bad thundershowers. They did an excellent job. It looks like we have a new chimney on our 1928 tudor home! I was very impressed with the quality of Bruce's masonry work and my father was a mason. Several of our neighbors have dropped by and have also commented highly favorably on the excellent work. Bruce and his crew were always very professonal, courteous and personable. They continually keep the job site cleaned up and were very careful not to damage plants in our garden. They even washed the mortar dust off of the plants. They did an incredible job cleaning up the job site before they left. We highly recommend Bruce for any chimney work or masonry repair.
Description of Work: They tuck-pointed, ground out (1" deep) and regrouted all mortar joints on our 2 story brick chimney. Replaced four field stone shoulders and two crown caps with limestone. Repaired 4 ft. section of chimney which was bowed out. Replaced the chimney cap. Sealed brick.

Mr. Ryan was professional in his estimate as well as his presentation of the information. The firm arrived as planned and completed the work within the specified time frame. The staff carried out their duties in a workmanlike and efficient manner. Every courtesy accompanied their work. The job was completed swiftly and the work area was left in a clean and neat condition as found. As the job had required less than had been originally quoted, we were charged less than we originally agreed upone. We were exctremely pleased with all phases of this company's work and wold not hesitate to recommend it to others.

I got some estimations for repairing my cracked chimney. One of my options was the "All-Seasons Chimney Service" company. A representative came to evaluate the chimney and recommended "Bruce D Ryan's Masonry Construction" for a repair and gave us his free quote. He was nice and Bruce D Ryan's Masonry Construction was certainly the professional for it. Bruce took some pictures of the damaged bricks of the chimney where I couldn't see and sent them to me. He also sent descriptions about the work that had to be done and an estimation. He was very understandable and asked for some remnants of original bricks to provide a more accurate saving cost. They were prompt and did a good job supervised by Bruce the owner and sons. They also did additional favors for me such as trimming a long branche near my chimney and even adjusted my gutter cover- both places where I cannot reach . I really recommend "Bruce D Ryan's Masonry Construction" for chimney repair to everyone.

: He went up and checked the chimney. He did everything but the cleaning. He recommended a cleaner. He checked the chimney and made sure that everything was clean. We hadn?t checked the fire place to make sure if it was usable. So, he checked it for us. He wasn?t very personable; he came out to do his job and he did it well. Once, we had a question about something that popped up. He came over and checked it. His price was good. In fact, we didn?t even compare the prices with other companies. We?ll definitely hire him again.

Bottom line is he did an excellent job for me. The scheduling was a little changable but I was very flexible so it was not any problem. Everything including cleanup was great. I love having the owner run the crew and do a lot of the work.
Description of Work: Bruce tore down the top 15 rows of bricks and cut out about 25 or 30 cracked bricks. He then replaced the cracked bricks and rebuilt the top with a limestone cap and stainless steel cover. I think 2 or 3 clay flue pipes were also replaced. I was impressed with his knowledge, tools, and crew.

Mr. Ryan's crew was here at the time and date as set up. They were very professional and did an excellent job. We are very happy with the new chimney. There was only one surprise, a few days before the job was to start, we found them in our garden. They said they were taking measurements, which was fine, but they came in two trucks and left in one, leaving a truck in front of our house on Thursday, when our job wasn't to start until Monday. I was out of town at the time, but called Bruce and explained we were having a party Saturday night and needed the truck removed. He kindly did so on Saturday and also helped us out by not setting up any equipment until Monday, so our home looked nice for the party. There was a problem found once the outer bricks were removed, and Bruce fixed the problem by filling in the large gap on one side of the chimney liner, so it is in better shape than when we started.
Description of Work: Our old chimney was made of soft, used brick which was constantly spalling and falling off in chunks, regardless of how often it was painted and sealed. So we had the whole thing replaced.

Bruce came within one day after I initially called and provided a proposal within one week. Although his bid was higher than others, it was a much more complete proposal and it was clear that the resultant caiman would be "built to last". I was particularly impressed with the one-piece stone chimney cap, obviously superior to the mortar caps that other companies proposed (which are prone to developing cracks and then letting water seep into the structure). Bruce took time to explain these details to me in his initial visit and also when I had questions about the proposal. The work itself looked remarkable. The chimney looked like it had been completely rebuilt, rather than just tuck-pointed. The new area of roofing for the chimney that was removed also looked very good, with no evidence that there had even been a chimney there. While he was doing the work, he damaged one square of our front sidewalk. When I pointed this out to him, he was very willing to repair it and did a great job. After all this work was completed, we discovered we still had a leak in the chimney area (the reason that we originally called Bruce). Bruce responded very quickly to a phone call, and after looking at the work, offered to come back and re-waterseal the chimney and add solid flue-caps for the unused flues. Further investigation with a roofing company suggests that it is a roofing problem that is causing the leak, not related to the chimney. In total we were very pleased with Bruce's responsiveness and the very high quality of the work he did. Although we are disappointed that this work did not solve our leak problem, it seems that the leak is not related to anything that Bruce did. It is noteworthy that the roofing company we are using to address the leak (somehwat of a competitor to Bruce) had high compliments for the quality of the work on the rebuilt chimney and were able to quickly rule-out the chimney as a cause of the leaks.
Description of Work: Bruce Ryan overhauled one larger chimney: He ground out all mortar joints and tuck-pointed them, installed a new one-piece stone chimney cap, installed three new stainless steel flue caps, and then water sealed the entire structure. He also removed one smaller chimney below the roofline, then reframed and patched over the hole to blend into the original roofing.

We had several estimates to repair the chimney. Most of the estimates were at least $2,000.00 or more. Bruce seemed very knowledgable and gave us an estimate without going up on the roof. When he gave us the estimate, we didn't talk about the crack, just the water damage. When I later told him that I wanted to hire him, but what would he do with the crack, he came out that day to inspect it and said that he would rebuild the chimney, but because he had quoted me a price already he would stick with that price. We scheduled within the week. He found a brick that matched ours perfectly. They were very polite and cleaned up very well. They were doing the job on 100 degree days and were still very professional.

Bruce D. Ryan s Masonry Construction is by far one of the best companies I have worked with. Mr. Ryan, the proprietor, is a true business professional as well as an expert brick mason. Mr. Ryan and his son did all the masonry work themselves, along with 2 helpers. The chimney rebuild was estimated to take 3-4 days to complete, depending on weather. However, the entire job was completed in 2 days! I am completely satisfied with Mr. Ryan s professionalism, promptness and responsiveness. I have other masonry work that needs to be done and a center chimney that needs to be rebuilt. I will definitely contact Mr. Ryan again to complete this work. In all, a very satisfied customer!
Description of Work: My chimney, from foundation level to roof line, was in dire need of repairs. I contacted Mr. Ryan and he was very prompt in setting up an appointment for evaluating the chimney and providing an estimate of the repairs. The chimney was in such bad shape that Mr. Ryan recommended tearing down the entire chimney and rebuilding it. Within days I received a formal contract detailing the work to be done. This included: 1. Selecting the appropriate brick for the chimney. 2. Setting up scaffolding in order to tear off the 4-inch brick shell down to the foundation level and re-build it. 3. Hauling the masonry waste away. 4. Building a one piece sandstone cap set as a crown which is 1 inches thick with a 1 inch over hang to shed water away from the brick and prolong the life of the chimney. 5. Installing critter prevention caps on both top flue liners. 6. Sealing the chimney with a breathable sealer 1-2 weeks after completion of the masonry work.

A few hours after we called, Mr. Ryan himself called us from the roadside. He called later that day to tell us he would come in two days within a certain time. He came as stated and gave us paperwork with a most complete presentation. It included an illustration and description of the type of work he and his son do, liability insurance coverage, Workman's Compensation certificate, and a whole page of references with telephone numbers. As promised, a few days later we received by mail a contract outlining everything in detail with the cost. The day they did the basic work, they were very careful setting up the scaffolding and protecting the roof and did a perfect cleanup. They even removed debris from a gutter(not included in job.) Mr. Ryan returned to do further cleanup a few days later and again in a week to seal the masonry. While not inexpensive, we are highly satisfied with quality of the work and timely schedule, with no need for us to do any follow-up.
Description of Work: We had water leakage in the ceiling of our garage at points adjoining our family room with a fireplace. We called Bruce Ryan's Masonry Construction. The process required removal and replacement of bricks above the first tier from the flashing level. Bricks were perfectly matched to the existing ones. They also installed a new top clay flue liner, re-set the existing rain-critter prevention cap, removed the old chimney cap,and replaced it with a new solid sandstone cap crown and applied a breathable sealer to the masonry.

We were lucky enough to catch them during a cold snap when he was unable to work on exterior stuff, so they were able to get us a quote and complete the work immediately. The attic area they need to crawl into was only about 3' tall, but they got in and got right to work. He charged me a little extra because the accessability was poor, but I guess that was fair enough. Was pleased with the promptness and professionalism of Mr. Ryan and his son. Will plan to use them in the future if we have masonry needs.
Description of Work: During some rehab work we noticed that the chimney was missing about 8 bricks in the section that went through the attic. In order to fix the problem, Mr. Ryan had to tear out about an 18" section of the chimney and redo it.

Very well. Bruce, the owner came by right at the time he said he would to make his inspection for an estimate. He was very professional and explained the composition of the walls of my house. He said he could only do the outside portion, which was fine with me because it turned out that was all I could afford at the time, and obviously it was the most important. He brought a brick sample back about a week later, which I thought was a pretty good match. (I had been told by more than one contractor it may be hard to find a match since my house is over 80 years old.) I got his estimate after I got another estimate for both the inside and outside combined. It was just a little more than half the other estimate, but the other estimate was verbal and his was in writing. The day of the job it only took about 2 hours total to complete the job. His associates were courteous, and they left the work area clean enough. From the time of his inspection to completion of job was about two weeks.

Bruce's estimate was midway between two other estimates in price, and it was the most detailed and well justified estimate by far. I was able to be home when Bruce got up on the roof, so he invited to come up on the roof with him. This was invaluable because he was able to show me exactly what needed to be done, and we talked through several options. He spent a lot of time discussing with me the color of the mortar that should be used in order to adequately match the existing mortar. As I look at my neighbors' chimneys, I can see that this is a rarity; it's clear that their chimneys were repaired because the ugly white mortar that was used sticks out like a sore thumb! The mortar that Bruce used on my chimneys perfectly matches the mortar on the rest of the house. Also, the chimney crowns that Bruce uses are sandstone, not cement. Both of my other estimates proposed cement crowns, which deteriorate quickly. Bruce and his crew were courteous, prompt, and their work was terrific!
Description of Work: Repaired two chimneys on our 75 year old house. Removed several rows/layers of deteriorated brick and capped off one chimney that is no longer used with a sandstone cap. Also ground out and re-grouted mortar on this chimney. On our larger chimney that serves as an exhaust for furnace and water heater he ground out all of the mortar joints and re-grouted them, added a new sandstone crown, added two new top clay flue liners, and added a metal rain cap. He hauled away all debris and cleaned up completely and thoroughly the day after the majority of the work was done, and he'll come back in the next two weeks to seal the newly laid masonry.

This is a first class operation. Bruce Ryan returned my initial phone call the within a couple of hours. He scheduled an appointment to look at the project and was on time. I received a written quote and contract in the mail five days after I talked to him. It was the most complete and thorough contract we received. He kept me informed throughout every step of the project. He called to tell me when the stone had been ordered, when it would be delivered and told me everyday what time they would arrive at my house. The work they did was top notch. They worked hard the entire time they were at my house. They cleaned up after themselves and finished 3 weeks earlier than promised. They were also 50% cheaper than my next lowest bid. I would use them again for any masonry work and I liked them so much I wouldn't even look at another company or get another bid. You absolutely cannot go wrong with this company.
Description of Work: They repaired a very large retaining wall (90 ft. long by 19 ft. high) with a brick facade and cap that was crumbling. They removed the top layer of brick, replaced all loose bricks, tuck pointed all areas that needed it, and put a stone cap over the entire wall.
