Explained everything very well at eh estimate and pointed out the lintel issue that we didn't even realize we had so we had them fix that too. Spent extra time explaining to my husband and answering all of his questions. Did everything we asked. Kept in phone contact. Very professional. Did a good job and came back to clean the brick a week or so later.

My first estimate from another company was $6800 and that was just one cap and installing a heat shield product. Bruce was punctual in setting up an estimate and in getting the work done. He always called and kept me informed of where things were at. Bruce ran into some other issues while inspecting the chimneys and came up with a plan and fixed everything on the spot. We are MORE than happy with the work and price. I felt like I was dealing with a person who honest, accurate, and met our needs instead of trying to sell me more products, "cadillac" products where they weren't necessary, or scare me into action. He will definitely be our first call should we need masonry work.
Description of Work: I had him put chimney caps on one chimney, straighten another chimney, put tiles (?) on that one, and he removed an old antennae on the roof.

I called Bruce initially just for an estimate so that I could know what repairs on a home I was purchasing would cost. He came out and gave me an estimate within a day, not even knowing if I was going to buy the home or not. When I did purchase the home, I called Bruce to perform the work. With the warm weather here for a few days he went ahead and came out and completed the work without even waiting for me to sign the contract and send him any deposit- not many companies will do that these days; most want the money in their hands first...not Bruce. He had a whole crew out there and completed the job quickly, and cleaned up after themselves.I would strongly recommend Bruce for the many different services his company offers.

Bruce is a person we felt comfortable to work with from beginning. He (and his crew) repaired 2 chimneys with badly cracked crowns. Instead of using cement to make the new crown, they replaced them with lime stones, which look so neat. He offered a competitive price for the work. With the quality of their work and material, we have to consider the price to be the best among all estimates. He also gave us other tips. He gave us photos of the chimneys before and after the repair, so we knew exactly what is wrong and what has been done. Over all, we are very satisfied with their work and highly recommend others to use their service.

A friend who does remodeling recommended Mr. Ryan, he had a good Angie's list rating, and then Angie's list offered a deal on his services, so I contacted him as well as two other contractors to bid the job. Other contractors were proposing to repair the current concrete crown or replace it with another concrete crown. Mr. Ryan's proposal to install a limestone crown seemed to be the most durable solution and his price, although somewhat higher than the concrete replacement bid, seemed in line with the additional cost of the materials and labor to install a single piece of limestone. Mr. Ryan showed up on time and finished on time. Extremely professional and excellent cleanup. The limestone crown adds a nice curb appeal touch to the roof line and it should last decades.

The entire process went smoothly and Bruce did exactly what he said he would do.
Description of Work: Our chimney had a cement cap which was cracked and separating from the brick on the chimney. Due to this problem, water was running down the inside of the chimney. Bruce came and inspected the chimney inside and out. He determined that we needed to: Replace the cement cap with a limestone cap, install a clay flue liner and a new stainless steel rain/critter prevention on top of the new limestone and wash and seal the chimney with a breathable sealer. Bruce and his crew came and did the work in a timely and professional manner. I highly recommend Bruce and would use him again if the need arose.

I was very pleased with the outcome of the rebuild. Bruce D. Ryan was very professional and they completed this job in a timely manner.
Description of Work: We purchased a Big Deal from Bruce D. Ryan's Masonry Construction for an outside chimney inspection plus $200 credit for repairs! They did the inspection and we decided that the entire chimney needed to rebuilt. The final price does include the $200 credit toward the rebuild and they also replaced the flue.

Bruce Ryan and his team did an incredible job on rebuilding our chimney. Bruce arrived on time for the estimate and took time to explain the entire rebuild process, showed us pictures of prior work, and explained the process of using using limestone caps and shoulders. He also dropped off brick samples right away so we could see how the bricks would match up against our house. Bruce started the work when promised. The job took about three days and they came back about a week later to seal the chimney. The work crew was friendly and paid close attention to clean up and taking care of the property. My wife and I were very happy with the rebuild and I would highly recommend Bruce and his crew to my friends and family.

Mr. Ryan was on time for the inspection and delivered the estimate and contract to me the following day. I accepted the estimate and mailed the contract back to him. He called me and scheduled a time for them to start and showed up promptly on the day with his crew. They have obviously worked together for a while as each person in the crew knew exactly what to do. This was important as several of them were working more than 30 feet off the ground. They work as a team. They were clean and courteous throughout the project and kept the work sites tidy. They used scaffolding, not ladders, to access and bridge to the chimney locations without damage to my home. They worked everyday on the project and did not pull off to do something else. They finished the project ahead of schedule and left the project finished and ready for my roofer to reflash and reroof the house. They did all work as described in the contract. I am very happy with the finished product and will have them back to rebuild a chimney on my guest house in the near future. Mr. Ryan and his crew are not the cheapest as I had other estimates (2), but I knew from his experiance and references that he would do it right the first time without any bandaids or excuses. There is a value in quality work well done. I feel confident his work will last another 100 years. Finally, Mr. Ryan is all business and treats his customers professionally. He seems a bit dry and to the point, but is always very respectful. I appreciate his business personality and no nonsense approach to his work.
Description of Work: My antebellum home was built in 1853. The chimneys (3) each have multiple flues to service the fireplaces on all floors. The mortor in the chimneys had deteriorated to a point that they were structurally unsound and there were loose bricks on each. The chimneys were tore down to the roof and rebuilt. The inspectable portions of the chimneys below the roof showed no damage and did not require work. The chimneys were torn down to the roof line, brick cleaned and reused, a softer mortor mix was used because of the antique brick, a limestone cap with drip edge was installed with holes for each flue, and finally antique chimney pots were installed on each flue. I provided antique matching brick from a previously torn down chimney as needed.

My husband scheduled two contractors for quotes and I told him I thought he should leave more time between the meetings as some estimates take longer than others. He called Bruce and left him a message on his cellular asking him to come an hour later. Bruce never responded and actually surprised us when he showed up a little early (he got rained out on a job). We were done with the meeting with the other contract, but that gentleman was still taking notes and measurements when Bruce arrived. My husband was on the phone as we were not expecting anyone, so I met with Bruce initially. Bruce was rude to the other contractor and to me. He kept lecturing me, saying I should not have booked two contractors at the same time. He harassed the other salesman, and told him that he would not move his truck until HE was done with HIS estimate, then moved his truck anyway. Bruce criticized the salesman's techniques since he did not use a ladder to climb up on the roof to examine the chimneys. Eventually my husband came outside and had an opportunity to listen to Bruce poke fun at the other contractor, and my husband got the same lecture about scheduling estimates. When we asked Bruce for an estimate or ideas for the walkway he simply replied "Get rid of it," then went onto explain he would not repair it or the porch since it was installed improperly to begin with. Bruce's quote for just the chimneys and some tuckpointing around the house was over $7,000.00. Triple the other quotes which also included the walkway-- and we got four quotes total. I don't question his approach to rebuilding a chimney versus doing a bandaid repair, but some of us can only afford a bandaid. And if a patch is done right, and lasts 10 years, what is wrong with that? When I pushed Bruce on this issue, he treated me like I was an irresponsible idiot. As a side note: I told Bruce his literature looked familiar and asked him if he had ever been to our house or neighborhood. He said never. I pressed, and he was adamant he had done no work in this area. Low and behold he was wrong. At the suggestion of our chimney sweep, Bruce provided a quote for us in 2008, and I still had the estimate in my files. Back then, the chimney sweep suggested the caps needed work. We had tuckpointing done in 2008 and a new roof installed and had no issues with leaking. Bruce's quote back then was over $5,000.00. He did not want to repair the caps but rather tear down the tops of the chimneys and rebuild them completely. Same story 4 years later, and yet my bandaid from 2008 is still holding, just needs a little attention.
Description of Work: Request a quote for tuckpointing in a few areas around the house and on the chimney caps. Also asked for quote for repairing brick walkway and front porch and for cleaning chimneys.Note -- the chimneys are not leaking. We do have some bricks that have "whitened" but that was from a NEW gutter installation that was not slopped correctly. The gutters have been adjusted and we do not have any new water issues.

Mr. Ryan and his crew were outstanding. He was able to start the job two days earlier than originally planned and completed it in less than four days. The work is beautiful and I would highly recommend this company to anyone who needs masonry work done. They came on time, worked hard and finished in less time than predicted. Everyone n the crew was polite and they cleaned up the area before leaving. All in all, a great experience.

The job went great from start to finish and the quality was great. See above details.
Description of Work: We needed some tuckpointing done and a new chimney cap. We also had the chimney pressure washed and sealed. Since we have our house up for sale we were anxious to get the work completed. When I mentioned it to Bruce he said to make a note on the contract when I mail it backt. He contacted me within 2 days to let us know he would put us on the schedule and the worked was completed within the week. He kept me udpated by calling me each day of the 2 days they were there. They did a great job on the chimney and did a great job on the cleanup. Bruce was very easy to work with and would recommend them to others and would use them again if needed. Thanks!

The work crew was efficient, courteous, and payed attention to details such as thoroughly cleaning up after the work was complete. Excellent ... is the only word I can use. The professionalism, the efficiency, the friendliness ... they were even kind to our big, barky dog! From the moment they arrived (on time) to the tear down of the scaffolding ( a mere 24 hours later) everything was perfect. I got three estimates for the repair. Ryan's was the highest, but I was most impressed with the how the work would be completed and Mr. Ryan's thorough presentation. His made the most sense for the job at hand and our needs. In evaluating the job to be done my priorities were (1) the best job (2) then price. Bruce Ryan Masonry truly fit the bill. I wouldn't hesitate a second to recommend them or use them again.
Description of Work: The masonry on top of our chimney of our 1955 ranch home had deteriorated over the years resulting in water leaking through to the plaster walls of our living room. The job consisted of Setting up 2 1/2 stories of scaffolding Pressure washing the dirt from the affected area Applying a breathable sealant to the area Removing the cement cap and top course of brick Setting a new cap of limestone as the crown. 1 1/2 " thick with a 2" overhand to shed water Repairing minor mortar joints throughout the chimney The above sentence in bold face type was one of the key reasons I chose Bruce Ryan Masonry. This procedure made the most sense for the repair and was the only one presented as such.

Bruce Ryan arrived on time for the estimate. He was very professional and through with the inspection. A few days later I received the estimate. I had a question about the brick color and Bruce Ryan delivered that day a sample brick for my wife and I to approve. The brick was a perfect match and of high Quality. About two weeks after signing the contract, work began. Bruce called a couple days ahead to let us know work would begin. They showed up on time to begin work. The crew consisted of Bruce Ryan and about four other workers. The were all very friendly and professional. Everyone had a job and they worked together like clock work The job site was cleaned up when the chimney rebuild was completed. They returned about a week later to seal the new chimney.

From our first contact with Bruce Ryan's Construction, the response and estimate were prompt and fair. All work was done efficiently and clean up excellent. Entire crew impressive, working together diligently. Clean, organized, good looking trucks. Very professional. Follow up prompt and thorough, despite the rain. The finishing touch was the mulch they put down carefully where the planter had been removed.

After inspecting our two chimneys, Bruce stated that they were in bad shape and we should tear them down and rebuild them from the roof up. When I mentioned we would be moving from the house soon, he offered an alternative of parging the chimneys. He said if we did this and sealed them, they could last many more years. I felt he was trying to upsell us, as his first recommendation was to rebuild both chimneys entirely. I contacted two other chimney repair companies, and both of them said our brick was in good shape and there was no need to rebuild the chimneys. (Both of them also suggested parging was not a good option and that tuckpointing would be better for our situation.) Bruce also recommended replacing the flashing entirely, whereas the other companies said the flashing just needed to be nailed back in place. Bruce's estimate was nearly twice as much as the two other chimney repair companies I contacted ($4400 versus $2300). Overall, I felt I couldn't trust Bruce. I would recommend definitely getting a competitive bid.

Very well. Bruce came out right away to survey the damage, and actually climbed up on my roof with a flashlight under quite poor lighting conditions - They completed the work very quickly, especially considering the weather conditions in Dec in Ohio were not cooperative. Everything about the operation was professional, and I greatly appreciated everything from the detailed information provided prior to signing the contract, the punctuality, the clear communication, their flexibility, and the clean up. They obviously take pride in their work, and I'd recommend them to any of my friends or colleagues. I couldn't give a rating for price simply because I didn't have time to get other estimates, so I simply don't know, but based on their professionalism and obvious integrity, I assume they are competitive.
