Bruce and co. Removed our old brick pillars and constructed new ones in their place. The job was done exactly as desired/planned. It was a pleasure to work with him. The work was done efficiently but without haste. The quality of the project was excellent and at the level expected by that done by an expert. The worksite was left clean when all work was completed.

Very responsive, very polite, & answered all my questions w/o making me feel stupid. He even drew pictures. I wish all servicemen treated me with such respect.
Description of Work: Contacted Bruce Ryan on a Monday, he came to the house the next morning to make assessment & then called back to say he could install a flue flex kit on Thursday. he even detailed a plan for more work, if needed & has already sent me a quote for that work.

Called up Bruce Ryan after reading reviews on Angie's List. He came out and took pictures of the chimney and the flashing when he said he would. After getting estimates from other masonry companies, I decided to go with Bruce Ryan. We scheduled a time for him and his team to come out, they were very punctual and got to work right away. Chimney and flashing looks great and he said he was going to come back out in a month to spray a protective coat on the chimney that will help keep water away. Very professional and I feel I could trust him and his team to do the job again if we needed additional work in the future.

He is punctual, does excellent work, experience and trustworthy. I would recommend the Company.
Description of Work: They help us out about 10 years ago with covering our chimney with stone and putting a new cap on the chimney. This is after another so called brick layer did a horrible brick job of laying brick and putting a new cap on that was very shoddy work. Bruce was excellent to work with he took us around to other jobs he has done. He worked to cover up the poor work done by the other contractor. We were sold with his honesty and excellent work. He comes back every 5 years to spraying a protective coating over the stone to protect it from the weather. His Company is easy to work with and very experience.

Bruce and his son came in and properly vented our water heater (was previously improperly vented by a plumber). They added a flex line down our 40ft chimney and worked to remove any obstructions. They worked all day long and our water heater finally passed inspection from Duke Energy. Bruce also examined and took photos of the repairs needed on our chimneys. He is very honest and takes you along the process and provides photos so you know the work has been done. It felt good to find an honest repairman after the bad experience we had w/ the previous company that did the water heater exhaust. I highly recommend his company to anyone!

For the past 4 years, we have experienced water dripping down our masonry chimney onto our new high effeciency insert, usually at times of hard downpours, or extended periods of rain. We had a crown seal coating sold to us when we upgraded our fireplace insert back in 2009. Unfortunately, these are just band aids. Since we were having our roofing and siding replaced, we decided that this would be the right time to get our chimney water problem solved and corrected, once and for all. Being an Angie's List member, it was easy to search for the right company to do the work. Since we had contacted several chimney sweep companies in the past, without much luck, we decided to go in a different direction this time, and it has been a lesson well learned. We contacted several chimney masonry repair companies, because this is what we needed. Chimney repair, not chimney cleaning! Pricing is always a consideration to us, but even more important is the quality of materials used, as well as craftsmanship and customer service provided. Of the companies we contacted, the one who stood head and shoulders above the rest was Bruce D. Ryan's Masonry Construction. Mr. Ryan is a real professional and craftsman. He has great customer service skills as well. After my initial call to him, he called me back when promised and set the appointment to come out to inspect my chimney. On the Saturday morning we met, he went up on my roof and did a detailed inspection of the chimney including photo's. He made recommendations as far as the best solutions to the water problems, and what materials he would be using. You see, what sets him apart from the others, in addition to his expert craftsmanship, is the fact that he doesn't use any poured concrete for crowns or shoulder tops. Only 2 and 1/2" solid limestone which is beautiful, with no cracking to worry about, only the rain and snow to shed off of it. He explained that it has a lifetime warranty, at least 100 years, so we don't think we'll have to worry about that anymore. Since we are in the process of having our home re-sided, Mr. Ryan was able to work with us to complete the job before our siding was installed, a real plus! The day of the work, he and his crew showed up promptly and began the setup process. They were very careful to not disturb or damage anything and I was impressed with this. His crew was very polite, and very dedicated to performing high quality work. As a homeowner, they gave me a lot of confidence that the job would be done correctly and timely. In fact, the whole repair was done in about 5-6 hours. They cleaned everything up, removed their scaffolding, and it was like they were never there. If a chimney can look fantastic, that is what ours looks like now, a unique look that adds to our homes overall appearance. The real benefit, though, is by having this done, along with the sealing of the brick, our chimney should last the lifetime of our home with resealing of the brick every 7 years as Mr. Ryan recommends. It was a pleasure to have Bruce D. Ryan's Masonry Construction repair our chimney. We know that the job was done right, and our worries of water damage are over. It is well worth the money spent. We would highly recommend Mr. Ryan's company to anyone needing chimney brick repair and/or crown replacement as he is professional, fair and honest! Qualities that are harder to find these days in the world of home improvement.
Description of Work: Replaced cracked and leaking mortar chimney crown, along with the top 12" x 12" chimney terra cotta pipe, and installed a new 12 x 12 stainless steel chimney cap. Additionally, replaced the tops of the chimney shoulders to prevent leaking or any future problems.

Bruce Ryan is a real craftsman, who is on site working with and directing the crew doing the work. To prep his estimate, he went onto the roof, took pictures and explained what needed to be done, and why a limestone cap was the only way to fix the leaking permanently. His was the most expensive of 4 estimates I had, and the only one that made any real sense. When I saw the extent of the work he and his crew were doing, I told him that I now understood why his bid was as high as it was. The price was fair. And on his own, he told me about the Angie's list $100 coupon if services exceeded $1000 (or so). Since he new I had found him through Angie's List, he didn't even ask me to print out the coupon. After the first of 3 days of work, he noticed some serious deterioration of mortar behind a downspout that had been leaking, apparently for years, given the extent of erosion. On his own time, he tried to find a replacement section of downspout; but the part he was looking for isn't made, so he fixed the leaky joint, tuck-pointed the eroded mortar, and reinstalled the downspout. "No charge for that," he said when I went to pay the bill, "it just wasn't that big a deal". It was to me, so I gave him a $100 tip. His crew works hard for him, and it looks like they enjoy working for him. It is a rare treat to work with true craftsmen.
Description of Work: Removed leaky concrete chimney cap & replaced it with a solid limestone cap 2 1/2" thick. Also installed a limestone cap/cover on the outside fireplace hearth to stop deterioration of mortar.

Bruce came out gave me an estimate. My insurance company needed my detailed information which he provided them. He worked with me on scheduling a date to do the repairs. He and his crew did a great job and cleaned everything up when they were finished. He did have to come back and clean and seal the fire place which he said would be in a week. He called to let me know he was coming to finish the job which he did. He also replaced a few missing bricks from my chimney that were not part of the damage. I would recommend him to anyone that wants a professional job done.

This is perhaps one of the most professional companies I have encountered. Mr. Ryan came out to do the estimate promptly. He brought us a brochure explaining the repair process along with copies of his credentials. By day two, we already had a sample of the brick he would use which was difficult to match because it is pinkish and forty years old. The next week Mr.Ryan began working on our chimney. He worked with his crew every step of the way and we watched him work. He is meticulous in his work. He is a skilled master craftsman. Mr. Ryan and his crew straightened and repaired our chimney and it looks brand new. We are very impressed with Mr. Ryan's work and the pride he takes in it. We know that if he had encountered any problems, he would have been able to fix them. Ours is the sixth chimney repaired by Bruce Ryan's Masonry on our cul-de-sac. We highly recommend this company!

013The work was done efficiently & professionally. We would highly recommend this company & have them do any further work we would need in the future. They are dependable, hard workers.
Description of Work: Removed chimney flue & damaged crown. Ground out cracked mortar joints from the foundation up & re-grouted them. Put a new limestone crown with a 2" overhang with a drip edge to keep water away from the brick. Set a new top clay flue liner & a new stainless steel rain-critter prevention cap on top. Two weeks after completing the masonry work caulk was applied where the brick meets the siding & a breathable sealant applied from the roof line up.

Scheduled an appt. (Sat. morn) for an estimate and Mr. Ryan arrived promptly and proceeded to the roof top to scope out the work to be accomplished. Promised an estimate by mail on Tuesday, which arrived as promised. After reviewing the very detailed work plan, I decided to go ahead and have Mr. Ryan do the job. Contacted Mr. Ryan and he scheduled the work for just a few days later. Mr. Ryan and his crew arrived promptly at the scheduled time and began to work with military like precision. In less than 20 minutes the scaffolding was erected for one chimney and without hesitation the second chimney scaffolding was under way. Working like a well oiled machine the crew began the demolition work, all the while being mindful of the debris and my curiosity. The work proceeded quickly and without any upsets of any kind. Very very pleased with the finished product. At the end of the job, there was no sign that anyone had been there, except for the two chimneys now completely repaired and capped with a long lasting limestone slab and stainless steel rain/animal guard. The clean-up was amazing, everybody pitching in. Great experience, from the beginning I was at impressed with Mr. Ryan. He made no promises he did not meet or exceed, performed the work with great skill, a true craftsman.

Bruce Ryan was great. It was easy to set up the appointment at a good time for me. Mr. Ryan took time to explain my options and what each would entail. He sent his quote a few days later which I accepted. Mr. Ryan and his team came on the appointed day exactly on time. They were all very professional and before the day was out my job was completed, and there was absolutely no mess left when they were done. My chimney looks great and I don't have a leak anymore. This was a great experience and I wouldn't hesitate to call them again if the need should arise.

The work was completed in a VERY timely fashion. Bruce was able to get the team in and out very quickly. Over the course of the two days they took care of our lawn by using boards all the way from the road to the chimney as not to damage the grass. Bruce is extremely competent and having such a skilled individual in charge of the job was comforting. Our roofing contractor even commented on how specialized and skillful Bruce's team was on the job. If you need ANY brickwork done on your home do not pass Bruce up.

In addition to an inspection, we wanted an estimate for repairing a chimney that was separating from the house. We ended up getting an estimate for tearing the chimney down. Since we thought the estimate was rather expensive, we decided to seek advise from a structural engineer, who told us the problem was due to the drought and that all we needed to do was thoroughly soak the ground - that worked and saved us a lot of money.
Description of Work: Got an inspection, though did not learn anything more than we already knew. This was one of Angie's deals - certainly not much of a deal. Guess we had to learn by experience.

Work was done on time and exactly as described by the quote. Price was accurate and exactly within the quote. Work was excellent - the masonry column was restored to better than it's pre-damage condition and the price was $3,000 less than the other bid we received. Workers were professional and did not stop working except for lunch breaks. Would hire this company any time I need masonry work.. Excellent contractor.
Description of Work: Masonry mail box stand had been damaged by a truck. Bruce Ryan masonry completely demolished the old column and reconstructed it using the same brick which was salvaged from the demo. Work was done in exactly the manner described in the estimate and for exactly the price quoted.

I was thoroughly pleased with the work, process, and customer service of everyone with whom I interacted. The crew arrived at the appointed time and promptly got to work. The scaffolding was put up quickly and they worked as a very efficient team. There were about 6 of them and they were completely finished in 4 hours. While at work, they were careful with the surrounding plants and landscape and even made sure the back gate was closed, when they went in and out, so the dog would not get out. The job looks terrific and the limestone cap gives a very finished look to the chimney. They will return in a couple of weeks to seal the brickwork and I expect to be as happy with that work as I am with the completed work.
Description of Work: Bruce Ryan responded promptly to my request for a price quote on a cracked chimney cap. He spent time discussing my chimney cap issues and provided photos, which increased my understanding of (plus validated) the work he was suggesting. He provided a price quote and thoroughly described the work of replacing the cracked chimney cap and deteriorating clay flu liner, plus power-washing the chimney of algae growing on the bricks. His company uses a limestone chimney cap instead of a cement cap, which should very significantly outlast cement caps. His attention to detail, customer communication, and the expected longevity of the limestone cap solidified my choice, even with his bid being slightly higher than three other bids. At the completion of the work, Mr. Ryan alerted me to a $100 coupon on their Angie's List site, which I was most appreciative to be made aware of and which brought the overall price in line with the other bids.

I am extremely happy with the Bruce Ryan experience. From the initial phone call, he was been nothing but prompt and professional. I had another estimate that agreed with Mr. Ryan about the work that needed to be done, but was $900 higher. I also had an estimate that recommended many unnecessary repairs and was for 5 times the cost. Mr. Ryan was able to schedule the work within a few days of my decision to use his company. This was another advantage I didn't expect. Mr. Ryan and his workers worked quickly, were patient and respectful in their conversations with me, and were conscientious in their clean up. Although I have not climbed onto the roof to inspect the work, I have complete confidence that they did exactly what was promised with the highest quality workmanship.
