Short story - called at 0800. Door fixed at 1050. Outstanding! The particulars: Garage door broke over the weekend. Fortunately the car was outside so I elected to wait until normal hours on Monday. An operator answered on the second ring. She then transferred me to the service operator who answered on the first ring. Sure beats those lengthy automated systems that often end in infinite loops. She took down my information and said a technician would call back shortly. Chris called me back within ten minutes and gave me a time window when he would be at the house. Chris arrived on time, serviced the door quickly, presented the bill and was on his way. Courtesy, correctness and timeliness - can't beat it.

My call was easily received on the first try with AE Door. I was asked if my car was trapped in the garage since the spring had broken but that wasn't a problem. I scheduled my appt day and was told that someone would be calling me to establish the time of arrival the day before service. I was also informed that the cost of the job would be $150. I received a call from the service department as promised and was told the technician would be onsite between 11am and 12pm the next day. The next day the technician arrived ready to replaced the spring in the time period expected and had the spring replaced and the garage door functioning in 20 minutes. The charge was as expected, $150. Total time onsite was 30 minutes.

It went pretty well. The only thing is that I wish they had made different recommendations on the door hardware because I probably would have gotten my lock keyed differently if I had had these kinds of possibilities to think about. He was a good installer and got it done in a day. He was very pleasant, but they were also good doors.

My old garage door broke, and was stuck in the bent track and useless. I called AE door to set-up an appoinment just to get a price. I fully intended to replace the door myself and wanted to get an idea of how much I was saving by doing it myself. When I called, I was told that a salesman was in my area that day, and they would ask him to call to set up a time to meet. Tim from AE called a short time later and said he'd be happy to fit me in. He came, looked at and took measurments of my broken door, and I told him the make and model of door I was intersted in- the one I was planning to get from the home improvement store. He said that was a good door, but that right now AE had a special on the next better qaulity door from the same manufacturer. I was amazed that the price he quoted me for the better quality door, with installation and removal of the old door, was about $200 LESS than what the home improvment store web site listed for the install it myself price on the lesser quality door. I was sold. Tim and I set-up an appointment for the installation for the next week. Todd Smith arrived promptly on time and set to work. Todd was very knowledgable, polite, and very considerate of the items I had in my garage. Absolute great guy. To top it off, he explained that the manufacturer was not able to supply the the door that was ordered, so instead AE had sent him out with an even higher quality door, in the color and style I had ordered. I was impressed that instead of delaying the install until the other door was available, or charging me more, or giving me a lesser quality door and a refund, they went ahead and gave me better door for the same price. To me, that is amazing customer service.

One of my garage door springs sprung Sunday evening. I called AE Door at 7:30 Monday morning. I was told to expect the service man at 9:00. He actually showed up a little earlier than that which was fine. He was friendly and very thorough, checking inside the garage door opener box to make sure the gear(s) were in good shape. He explained to me that now there are new springs, the opener had to work harder to lower the door (due to the tension). Both springs were replaced and he was on his way after about 45-50 minutes. I will always use this company for my garage door needs!

I've used them in the past. They were willing to come out on a Saturday, though for an extra $20, but that's worth it to me for convenience. This particular Saturday was the morning an overnight snowstorm had dumped 6 inches, snow was still falling, and roads were reportedly awful. I was pleasantly surprised that the tech did not call to cancel (I would have been willing to reschedule given road conditions, it certainly was not an emergency worth anyone's risking the drive) and showed up on time!! He diagnosed the problem and made the repair quickly. I'll definitely use them again.

One of the doors had to be custom made. He had to make it right here on the spot. I was just having trouble with it this morning; it is leaking water between the doors and it comes down the threshold and freezes. I couldn't get it open this morning so I'm going to give them a call to see what they would suggest. I'm hoping it can be sealed or something. They are very good people and I've used them before. I had a circle door in the front and it was very hard to find anyone to put one in. I had been looking for years. They did a beautiful job. I shopped around and couldn't find anyone that could do the work. The installer was just a perfectionist. He had to go inch by inch around the top to get it to fit right. It was amazing.

They were really good. They worker that came out took down the door and put up the door. Everything was neat and clean. The guy did a fabulous job. He was very professional. He was a young guy. I felt like I was in really good hands. The price really wasn't that bad. For what I got, the price was fine. I think it was $500 and then another $100 to install it, it may have even been closer to $700 than $800. The door was insulated, and they explained to me the difference between the insulation because I was trying to get the tax credit. The door I originally picked would not have qualified for the tax credit and he was very specific about what did and didn't qualify and showed me. I didn't really shop around but the price was fine as far as I know. I thought they were extremely professional. Depending on their price I may consider them on the windows that I am getting because they seemed creditable.
Description of Work: The guy from AE Window and Door came out and gave me a quote. He told me that on the old garage door I had to cut a piece off and it was going to be to the raw board at the top because of the person that put the door in before. I told him that was unacceptable, I didn't care what the last person did but I wasn't going to have a raw board exposed on my house when it has a vinyl-like finish to it. So, I told him that he needed to work something out. He told me that they could put another vinyl piece of, so I told him that was what I wanted him to do because I wasn't going to have that exposed. I told him I was trying to have an adjuster come out because of some roof damage, so I wanted to garage door fixed immediately, before the adjuster came out, which was in like three days. He told me that he didn't know if he could do that or not. I told him that was OK, whatever he needed to do I just needed to get it done. He called me and told me that he could have a guy out the next day or the day after, well within the time I was having the adjuster come out.

Update I did not realize until recently that I could update. I am now updating for four negative events that occurred after my first report. 1. Front storm door did not close completely. There was a 2-3" gap between door frame and still partly open storm door after door closed. Cause: bulky door closer mechanism installed too close to entry door. Doors installed 9/9/2009. A&E Door fixed problem under warranty 10/8/2009. 2. Front storm door had paint defect; and also caulking was smeared on storm door sweep giving it an irregular two tone black and white color. A&E Door replaced with new storm door and sweep under warranty 10/8/2009. 3. A&E Door did not furnish proper paperwork so I could claim Federal energy credits on my 2009 Federal Income Tax Return due 4/15/2010. The salesperson had said the doors qualified. When I prepared my 2009 tax return in March 2010, I learned the energy credit required that total cost less installation cost must be shown on vendor receipts that the tax payer must keep on file to support the claimed energy credit; and installation cost cannot be claimed as an energy credit. My A&E Door receipts showed only total gross costs, not installation costs. Further, the model number on the rear entry door sticker did not match the model number on the receipt. The manufacturer website contained Certification Statements listing model numbers qualifying for the energy credit; it showed the model number on the receipt, but not the different model number on the door sticker. The salesperson informed me by telephone that the installation cost was $250.00 for the front entry door and storm door together, and $250.00 for the rear entry door and storm door together. The salesperson said the rear entry door model number discrepancy would be checked out and the salesperson would get back to me. However, the salesperson did not contact me again and did not furnish proper receipts showing installation costs. Subsequently, a person answering the telephone and/or supervisor refused to help me and said I had to talk to the salesperson who was not available. Note: An offer was not made to have the salesperson call me. On 8/17/2010, I sent a letter by priority mail to the salesperson at A&E Door requesting the proper receipts. Delivery Confirmation from U.S. Postal Service was 8/18/2010. No one from A&E door responded to this request. On 10/21/2010, I sent a complaint about this matter to the Better Business Bureau of Cincinnati. On 10/29/2010, Adam W. Weber, A&E Door, told me by telephone that the requested information was in the mail. However, the invoice subsequently received from Mr. Weber disclosed installation cost of $400.00 for each entryway; whereas the salesperson had quoted $250.00 as shown above. On 11/13/2010, I complained again to the Better Business Bureau. On 2/23/2011,Mr. Weber emailed to me an invoice showing the correct $250.00 installation cost for the front entry, but the $400.00 erroneous installation cost for the rear entry was not corrected. During the week of 2/20/2011, Mr. Weber advised me by telephone: Model 430BLR (the rear entry door) does qualify for an energy credit, his records show this model was installed at my home, and he did not know how I received a door sticker that showed a different model number. Mr. Weber further stated that the installation costs he previously furnished were listed in error as separate installations; since I had entry and storm doors installed together, the installation cost is $250.00 total for an entry door and storm door installed in an entry at the same time. I had claimed a Federal Energy Credit on my 2009 IRS Tax Return in April 2010, for only the front entry that was not in dispute regarding the door sticker, less the $250.00 labor cost quoted by the salesperson. I did not file an amended return for the second door because of the model number controversy. Instead, I used the balance of the energy credit in tax year 2010 for a new heat pump and air handler, but I probably received less IRS refund overall for the two tax years, than if I had used the entire energy credit for the A&E doors in the 2009 tax year. 4. I also purchased two garage doors with automatic openers from A&E Door 8/11/2009, installed 8/31/2009. That winter (2009-2010), the doors became very noisy when the weather became very cold, and one door made loud, cracking noises. When the weather became warm again, the cracking noises mostly disappeared or were not as loud, but the doors were still too noisy. I should have called A&E Door about this before the warranty expired. On 8/31/2010, I had A&E Door do an Angie's List $59.00 service on the garage doors, and they have remained relatively quiet since then. All the doors appear to be premium doors, and they look very nice. I don't know why I had to have all this trouble, especially the paperwork problem. The door energy credit requirements are very simple, and it would have been very easy for A&E Door to furnish the proper receipt/invoices at the time I made my purchase of the doors, not months later after I had to complain twice to the Better Business Bureau.
Description of Work: A&E Door & Window Company installed two garage doors and openers. They also installed a front entry door, a rear entry door and two storm doors at the same time.
