I was able to schedule an agreeable date & time. The technician arrived within the time window, although he did not call before he arrived, which I was told he would do. He was very knowledgeable about my 25-year-old garage door. Luckily, the still carried the special kind of weatherstripping needed, which I was unable to find in big-box stores or online. The work was done quickly.
Description of Work: Performed maintenance on garage door. Replaced weatherstripping on bottom of door. Reprogrammed door opener pad.

The installer arrived on time and was courteous to my wife. I was at work, so I was getting the play by play via text. The installer got straight to work and began, verifying measurements, disassembling the front garage door and replacing it. Everything went super smooth on the front door. He had it done in about 2.5-3.5 hours, if I recall correctly. The other door was a bit more cumbersome. I received a text from my wife that the size of the garage door that he had on his truck to replace the other garage door was not the right size. Luckily he had double checked the measurements on both doors prior to removing the old and the one was just wasn't right. He said he would need to order the right size door, have it shipped and would get it installed asap. It would take about two weeks to get the door in and that was fine as it turned out the first door was more of a priority anyways. Two weeks went by and the installer called to schedule the install. We were excited to get this install completed. When he arrived, he again went straight to work. He measured just to make sure and guess what? Wrong size again. When I received that text, I about lost it. Not the right size? Again?! Well, the installer said he and AE Door would make this right. He got the right size ordered, which was even an upgrade from the door we had originally ordered (thicker, more substantial door) and we had it installed that same day! I was apprehensive at paying $1,700 for two garage doors, but as a contractor friend even told me, "you don't want to replace a garage door, **** I don't even like doing them. They're a pain in the butt. Oh, you could probably put in the new one, but getting the old one out could hurt or even kill you. No joke." The thing that put AE over the top of the competition was the comments about the great service that people had received. They were middle of road/little higher on the budget side of things, but we went with them because people said that they would make things right! And they surely did with us! We would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have their garage doors replaced or serviced.
Description of Work: AE replaced two garage doors in our stand alone garage. One was a old roller slide style garage door and the other was a old standard style garage door. We replaced them with insulated versions, even though the garage didn't need it from insulation perspective, but did so for the structural stability the insulated versions brought to the table.

Presentation included options available. The day of the installation the installer noticed smoke coming from the opener, and it was decided that a replacement was needed. All was done on the same day. Rick, the installer did a fine job and cleaned up, too.

They did the original installation of our garage door an under a year ago and recently I had had accidentally backed into my garage door and contacted AE. They showed up under 2 hours and repaired the door with an hour at the most. He replaced it so that there was minimal damage apparent. He also fixed the panel lip to fit into the next panel and bent back the panels so they were flush. And when he was done we could no longer see the light through the panels.
Description of Work: He adjusted a dent and placed my garage door back on its track.

John H (VERY courteous and knowledgeable, by the way) replaced the old door opener with an upgrade that includes battery back-up. Since we seem to have a lot of weather-related power failures these days, that battery back-up is a must. Also, the poor old fossil (old one) has just about groaned its last groan getting the door up. And back down again. NEW ONE! :-) After replacing it, John walked me through all the features of this new model, making sure ALL my questions were answered and that I felt comfortable with the device.

I called AE Door on Friday and they were able to give us an appointment for the following Monday. I was very happy with the quick response (it was not an emergency, just inconvenient). They called Monday morning to give us an approximate window of when they would arrive and then again when they were on their way. The service tech did a great job. He quickly removed the old torsion system and installed a new one. He cleaned up the site well. The total cost was actually a few dollars below the estimate range they had provided on Friday. The door works great. I will certainly use this company again and would recommend them to others.

Sorry for the lengthy review, but I think a poor grade deserves a good explanation! AE door has a popular spring sale that runs through March. I contacted AE door in early March along with several other companies for estimates. I used the ?request appointment ? option on their website, and submitted this three separate times and received no call. I considered writing AE door off because of this but decided to at least get their opinion after I received 4 other estimates, since my garage door situation is a bit different with a low ceiling from duct work. I called AE on 03/26 and was transferred to a salesman. His first available to come out was 03/31 and said I would need to decide on 03/31 to get the sales price, even though I explained I hadn?t been contacted by AE earlier in the month. I also knew from a referral that AE had extended the sale for him based on his circumstances, so I had a feeling this salesman was lying. Salesman arrives on 03/31. He walks into the garage, mentions the low duct work. He looks around and says ?this is easy. No problem at all, we can do this. Done. Let?s see the front door.? I?m glad I had seen other estimates prior to this, because it was the complete opposite of what everyone else did. He didn't even pull out his tape measure until I prompted him to. I mentioned the concerns the other companies had disclosed to me (all of them mentioned additional framing construction that would be needed) and he was quick to dismiss them and discredit any other company. I officially took AE out of the running at this point, but I was curious to see how things played out. Salesman measured the front door quickly, and then walked upstairs into my dining room, cleared a space on the table, and sat himself down. I was so shocked I didn't even say anything. Every other person I?ve ever had come to my house for ANY type of work has asked permission before even entering my house. This guy had his tablet out and was punching in figures before I even sat down, just completely dominating the space. He was using every option from the salesman's playbook. I simply sat there taking notes while he bullied his way through the sale. At one point I noticed their R-value was higher than any other I had seen on their thickest garage door. I asked him why, and he very quickly said, ?it?s just better. A better quality door.? No other explanation. No samples to show me. And then he was back to the sale, pinning me down for front door style, color, etc. When I asked about the triple pane glass in the doors, he immediately dissuaded me from it saying it was too expensive, and that I had double pane windows throughout the rest of my house. I'm not sure what this observation had to do with a front door I had no intention of buying. Either way I didn't correct him by saying my home's windows are triple pane. I just played along, still shell shocked by his whole demeanor. When the circus was over, he swept up his papers and said he?d email me a quote as soon as he got back to his office. That was around 11AM. By the end of the day when I hadn?t received an email, I called him. He didn?t answer so I left a VM. I heard nothing the rest of that day. The following morning he called me and apologized. He told me he had sent the estimate, but must have gotten the email address wrong <cue eye roll>. I mentioned that the sale had ended the day prior, and he responded (not surprisingly) by saying that they had given him another day. I said if he could extend it one day, then surely he could extend it a few more days to allow me enough time to make a decision. But of course?he told me I would still need to decide that day. At this point I was just annoyed he thought I was that stupid. Several hours go by and I get the emailed estimation. It was hastily written jargon that made little sense to me, but since I wasn?t buying anything from them I didn?t need to translate it. Instead I found a portion on the estimate sheet that said ?Any alteration or deviation from above specifications involving extra costs will be executed only upon written orders, and will become an extra charge over and above the estimate.? I replied to his email asking if that meant that if any extra framing construction was needed (like every other estimator had mentioned) would I be responsible for those costs? No response for the rest of that day. He called me the following morning. This puts us two days past the sale end date. I had to ask him repeatedly to answer the question from my email directly. The answer, finally, was that I was responsible for any additional work. He said they would give him a hard time at work if he messed up and I was charged extra, but I reminded him that I would still end up paying for it in the end, not him. I mentioned that he hadn?t measured anything in my garage, so he didn?t really have a good idea of what the extra costs would be. Then he said he wanted to have someone else come out to do another estimate, just to be sure, and that he could have someone out within the next week. I asked him if that meant the sale price was extended for me, and he said that it was, because of all the trouble I had been through and because I didn?t hear back from a salesman right away earlier in the month. I asked why I wasn?t offered that on day 1 when I mentioned it and asked for an extension on the sale, but he never gave me a direct answer. Liars can?t give direct answers (just watch a political debate!). I told him I didn?t trust him and that I wasn?t going to be using AE door. If you?ve had a good experience with AE I am happy for you. In my case, AE could have had a customer for life. Instead I?m dissuading anyone I know from using them. If the salesman I was forced to endure was a representation of their craftsmanship, their responsiveness, their credibility, or the quality of their products, there are a lot of potentially dissatisfied customers, or at least poorly installed systems bound to fail in the future. Overall I?m glad for the experience with AE. It sets the lowest possible bar for me to rate other vendors against. BTW, Overhead Door was my final choice. Very professional and knowledgeable.

The installer was on time, friendly, and professional. The garage door works perfectly. That night, the motion detector above the garage did not work. He returned the next day, looked at it, didn't think his work affected it. It seemed pretty coincidental. We were able to repair on our own. But, I appreciated him returning and checking into it and things do happen.

Excellent service! The technician arrived promptly and, to my delight, determined that we did not need to replace the garage door opener. Instead, he found and repaired a short in the sensors. When I asked whether we could get a code box to open the door, he had one on hand and installed it. It would have been easy for him to tell us that we needed to install a new opener (at a cost of over $300), so we were impressed with his honesty and professionalism. A&E is our go-to provider for our garage door service!
