Sealed the masonry on our house and did tuck pointing work in 2008.
Description of Work: Bob sealed our house two years ago. When we noticed a couple of small problem spots, he came out prompty and fixed the problems at no charge. It's rare that someone will stand behind his work after two year.

The job was done perfectly. He gave us the best estimate he stuck with his price even when the job turned out to be more complicated then expected. We did have to spend a little more on materials due to unexpected problems with the chimney on the inside. This was discussed and approved by me. He was very neat, the new brick looks perfect! He takes pride in his work and gets the job done perfectly. He does go above and beyond the expected. We could not be more pleased.
Description of Work: Bricks from the chimney needed to be cut out and replaced and the cement at the top of the chimney redone. He also repaired bricks on a window sill and cleaned the brick and sealed it. He also re-caulked the window sill as well as on another window that he saw needed to be redone.

He did such a nice job. It was so nice that you could not even tell anything had been wrong especially for the foundation. He also did some grating and drainage control. He is very reasonably priced. He does great work and is a very, very nice person! I have recommended him to others and they were very pleased.
Description of Work: Bob did two different jobs. He repaired my chimney on my home. On another home I own, there was major cracking of the block foundation. It was crumbling. He ended up having to excavate a lot further down than expected. He rebuilt the entire foundation.

After meeting with Bob mid-summer for an estimate to have my front steps rebuilt, I knew that I would hire him instantly. He was professional, friendly, punctual and had great ideas for my steps. He listened to all of my concerns and ideas and had many of his own. He knew that this would be a huge undertaking, but was willing to accept the challenge. He had an estimate, complete with rough sketch, of the project to me in a couple of days. Bob had a couple of projects to complete before taking on mine, but once he was on site, he was very dedicated to the project. The work ran much longer than he and I anticipated, mostly due to weather and the complexity of the project, but it was well worth it. Bob & his assistant put in many, many long hours at my home and Bob attended to every little detail. My steps are a beautiful focal point to my home and it has garnered many rave reviews from neighbors to complete strangers driving down my street. I would hire Bob without hesitation or reservation for any other masonry work my home may need.
Description of Work: The front porch, steps, and landing of my 1920's home were in complete disrepair and needed to be torn out, new footer poured, and completely rebuilt.

Bob gave me an estimate early in the summer and was very nice to work with. I waited until fall to do the job, so the steps were worse. We ended up adding to the scope of the project. Bob and his helper are dedicated to quality. They left the job site very neat every day. He did everything, and more, that he agreed to do. He also tuckpointed areas surrounding the steps. He even is helping me with another project for my horse! I would recommend him to my friends! Also, check out his artwork he does!

it is a mystery to me. Thompson responded to request for quote and the quote was accepted. it took a few wks to schedule the work due to weather/other jobs, but he finally arrived dropped off materials and set up scafolding. he aso gave a few sample replacemt bricks to choose from. then the next day he came (no one at home), picked up everything and never returned. i left several calls messages on his answering machine over the next few wks and none were returned. it is a mystery to me. i did not lose anything but time, no money was paid and no work done.

It started off great! Bob was on time and extremely knowledgeable. He showed me photos of his work and even crawled under my porch to inspect the foundation and to get an good idea of what needed to be done. He stayed for almost an hour. I was very impressed and ready to hire him on the spot (I didn't even have an estimate yet). He left and said he would look for some bricks to match the ones we have and then would get back to me with an estimate. He never called back. I called him 2 weeks later and left a message saying we were interested in him doing the work. He still never called back. Very disappointing. If he didn't want to do the work, I would have appreciated a phone call anyway. This is why I gave him a D.

I initially got estimates from 3 contractors. Bob Thompson's estimate was in the middle of the 3 estimates. However, Bob did a very thorough job of investigating the issue before making the estimate. This gave me confidence that there would be fewer surprises later-on. Bob's work was stopped by rain, but he came back-out to finish the job later. Bob was mainly working on my chimney, but he also offered to patch-up the brick's on my front stairs. He did more than I expected on the stairs and did not charge extra for it. His final bill was the same as his original estimate.

Bob Thompson arrived very promptly to give me an estimate for mortar work on my chimneys and back steps. Made recommendations that were needed. While Bob was here giving us his estimate, the painter discovered that we had two very loose bricks under shutters that needed to be repaired immediately. Bob came the next day and made the repairs. Best masonry we have had. Very responsive, beautiful work & very dedicated. Great Price!

Due to weather and the complexity of the destruction of the front stoop, the job took about 7-10 days longer than expected. Bob never tried to up charge us because of these factors.
Description of Work: Bob Thompson came to my home in 2008 to estimate a 3 step porch rebuild and a partial chimney rebuild. In the spring of 2009, he came again to assess the job, which remained the same as the previous year. He honored the price for the job from the previous estimate! Bob and his coworker Vince rebuilt our front stoop. The job ended up taking them much longer than they anticipated (which was no problem to me) and he never charged me more for the complexity of the job. He even reused the original sandstone treads, no other contractor was willing to do this, they all claimed it would break when moved, which elevated others' prices. The new front stoop looks awesome! Bob also rebuilt 40% of my 3+ story chimney, which was crumbling and falling apart. He built a beautiful decorative edge at the top and installed a new cap for free, these items were never part of the estimate, but he offered to do them for us anyways. Finally, Bob did some tuckpointing around the apron of our foundation that were in violation. I would highly recommend Bob! He is an extremely hard worker, and has many, many years of masonry experience. He is very honest and charges a fair price, when others tend to elevate their prices due to the tough economic times. I would hire him again without a thought.

In late summer/early fall 2008, water damage to an inside wall next to the chimney lead to the discovery that the chimney had deteriorated to the point that moisture was getting in through the chimny liner. There was agreement from multiple contractors that the chimney really needed to be torn down to the roof and rebuilt as any other repair would be temporary at best. Bob Thompson not only provided the best explanation of what was going on with the chimney and how to fix it, he also provided the best cost estimate. The challenge with a competent contractor with good prices is that their schedules are always booked solid but we got on their schedule understanding that there would be some uncertainty around the exact date. Due to a series of uncontrollable events not associated to Thompson's Masonry, the schedule got slipped out even further than expected and unfortunately was delayed until this spring. Bob contacted us when they started work in the spring and we got on his early schedule. Since they are working around weather in the early spring it was difficult to nail down to a specific date. I received a call on a Thursday morning indicating they were finishing a job and would like to do our chimney next which was last minute but worked fine for us. They arrived in the early afternoon as promised, set up the scaffolding and began the tear down of the chimney. Becasue of weather they could not continue on Friday but did come on the weekend (both Saturday AND Sunday) and completed the job. In addition to the Chimney rebuild they also threw in some tuck pointing of brick steps that had deteriorated over the winter. The new chimney looks great (great job matching the old brick!) and they completed the work quickly, efficienty, professionally, and with great pride and their price was excellent for the size of the job. When they left, everything was cleaned up and in order. I would absolutely use them again for any masonry work.

Bob Thompson called me right back after my initial phone call and gave me an estimate the same day. The work went well and I would recommend this company.
Description of Work: One of our three chimneys was struck by lightning. Thompson's Masonry rebuilt the top 8 courses of brick on that damaged chimney and sealed two fireplace chimneys with a liquid sealant. Bob Thompson also noticed very loose bricks on our service chimney. He pointed out this to me and my husband and gave us an additional estimate for this extra work. He was able to complete the work on three chimneys in two days.

Very pleased with the chimney repair. The owner responded to my initial telephone inquiry quickly, estimated the job within two days, and completed the work within the time he estimated. The owner and his associate called ahead (wanted to work on a Sunday due to good weather with inclement weather predicted for the work week) and performed the work within a few hours. Owner actually came in under the estimate due to using less material than expected.
Description of Work: Repair of chimney several bricks crumbling and mortar falling out due to moisture entering through cracks and freeze/thaw expansion and contraction. Repair included replacement of bricks and mortar mixed with acrylic.

Robert was prompt coming here, gave us a prompt quote. We found Robert on Angie's List. His price was more than 50% lower than other quote we receive (contractor also listed on Angie's List with an A rating). He told us he was busy, but would call and schedule for November. He showed up in the very beginning of November and stayed with the job until it was completed. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for promptness, quality and superior pricing.

Once we agreed on a scheduled time to complete the work, Thompson's Masonry showed up and completed the job quickly and effectively. I was very impressed with the pride they took in their work and they invested a lot of time and effort in trying to match the color of the repaired stucco to the existing stucco on the rest of the chimney.

They were excellent about getting back to me and excellent about getting a proposal to me. Their estimate was very fair. They did a really, really nice job. I can't even tell where the new mortar is. Best of all, there was one spot where mortar got on the driveway and they told me to let it dry and it would come off. It didn't, I called them and the came out and cleaned it off for me. Their follow-up was very good.

They were back the following week and in a few hours I had a repaired, better chimney. They also did a thorough clean up. He showed me photos of other work he's done; patio, stone steps, etc. His pride in his work was obvious. Hmmm, I was thinking of putting a small wood deck outside my front door, but maybe now it should be stone? I know who I'd ask to do it!
Description of Work: I had been told that I had a crack in my chimney and would need it replaced from the roof line on up. When Robert and his helper arrived, Robert climbed onto the roof and picked up a brick and threw it down onto my lawn! Uh, oh, I thought. But he told me that my chimney was much higher than it needed to be to meet code, so right then and there he removed three courses of loose bricks. He looked at what he said were some small cracks and proposed to repair these and extend the existing flue liner above the new chimney line, then cement the liner in place, properly sloped. He said this was all I needed! I asked about a chimney cap to keep critters out and he added that to the estimate.

Bob's estimate came in at $800, which seemed more than fair due to the work involved. He provided the estimate very promptly after my call, and was able to schedule and complete the work within a week, on schedule. He performed the work while I wasn't at home (due to weather, he changed the date by 1 day), and I was amazed at the job that was done when I got home. The steps looks brand new, and he matched the mortar perfectly. The window doesn't sag anymore - everything was cleaned up and the house looks great. Bob stopped by to pick up the check and he reduced the estimate since he had left-over materials from another job. Doesn't get much better than that.
Description of Work: Both sides of the house and front steps needed tuck pointing (all brick 2-story home). There were cracks in the mortar from the top of the house down to the first floor window, and one window had a sagging lintel.

Bob came out and gave us the estimate, which was the best that we received. We then scheduled a date. Bob came out with a helper and completed the work quickly. The step that he was working on had water damage and some other issues, he worked with me to make it look the best possible and did a great job. We were very happy with their work overall.
Description of Work: We had a rocky top step that needed to be secured and the joints all needed to be mortared. We also had some work done under an outside door frame and mortared a downspout.
