TruGreen Lawn Care - 5795

I hired Scott's to take care of the lawn at my newly purchased house. The lawn was a disaster as the former tenants didn't maintain it well. It was about 50% weed. After a few scheduling snafu's Scotts came out and applied weed killer, fertilizer and germination preventer. This did a wonderful job of greening up the lawn and killing the weeds. Unfortunately, the germination preventer meant I couldn't plant grass in the now bare patches of lawn. This was understandable as they pre-mix their chemicals before application, and they were very upfront about planting new grass in the fall. The problems occurred during the third application of fertilizer. Several large patches of my remaining grass were killed, and an enormous influx of crabgrass occurred simultaneously. Despite several calls and visits by Scotts, the crabgrass continued to get worse and they didn't mention the now defunct grass. As of the last application of fertilizer in the fall I discontinued my service due to their inability to prevent crabgrass and the large dead patches in my lawn. The service providers were all quite helpful and friendly, but the aforementioned problems I couldn't tolerate.

I get 7 applications on the shrubs and 6 on the lawn. I will continue to use them in the future.

I can tolerate inconvenience, rudeness, expense, etc if the end product is good. Unfortunately, I endured all of the negative aspects of the service and also have an unattractive lawn to boot. I have 3 complaints about this company, as follows: 1) They sometimes service the lawn at inappropriate times of the season. For example, the technician wanted to treat the lawn on March 23rd, even though the forecast called for snow and temperatures for the next week were not expected to get above 35 degrees! If I had not been home to refuse service, they would have treated the lawn and sent me the bill. Last Fall, I arrived home just as the technician was completing his application to my leaf covered lawn. The lawn didn't have a few leaves, it was heavily covered. At first, the technician and customer service rep tried to convince me that it was effective to apply fertilizer over the leaves. I pointed out that when I rake and blow the leaves off the lawn, the pellets will be scattered into the woods at the edge of my property. They finally agreed to re-apply the fertilizer but refused to schedule the treatment. I explained that the final raking would be completed over the weekend and that they would be able to treat any time after that point. They insisted I had to call them in two weeks and said if I failed to do so they would assume I didn't want the follow up treatment. How's that for service? 2) They never call ahead to schedule treatments. We could have completely avoided ""LEAFGATE" if they had called ahead. This may not be an issue at all for some, but I'm home with kids and use my yard on a daily basis. With even a little notice, I can make plans to be gone or to not be outside. We had to cancel an ice cream party because we arrived home to find that the lawn was just treated. Or my husband had planned to cut the grass that evening but the lawn had just been treated with pellets. I don't know why a service company would completely disregard its customers in this way. 3) The lawn looks terrible. Before hiring Scotts, my husband routinely aerated, dethatched, fertilized, and treated the lawn for weeds. It was not a picture perfect lawn, but it was in decent shape when we entrusted it to Scotts. Now, I have huge areas of dirt in my backyard where there used to be grass. Especially in the back yard, the lawn was overrun by crab grass. Along the front of the property near the road, large areas of grass just browned out and died. Scotts was supposed to give us peace of mind and more free time, but instead we will have to spend a lot of time and money repairing our lawn. The $600.00 we paid for this "service" only adds insult to the injury.

These people spend more time on calling to sell you additional services, e.g., lime treatment, aerating, etc. than they do on your lawn. We used them for years, and always complained about the calls, which always come at dinner time. We finally fired them in 2008 and tried someone else. A salesman stopped by, offered a good deal and swore we would be on the 'no call' list. It was not true; the calls started as soon as the service started. I asked again and again - to no avail. At one point I asked to speak to the telemarketer's supervisor, only to be told he was 'too busy to talk.' That's when we fired them. I will never engage this company again. Later, someone called (again) from 'corporate' and apologized and said 'that's not how we do business.' Their actions proved otherwise.

TruGreen is excellent. I have been using them for many years and their work is good. The workers are very good. They always do their job and they come back if there is a problem.

I have weeds, my lawn is dead/brown in patches, and I now have mushrooms. I was home and the tech. did not treat my back yard. Not to mention I have leaves covering my grass, and they still put down the chemicals. This is the second time I've caught the company only treating part of my lawn. I called customer service to complain and she was dismissive and rude.

I had used this company for fertilization service for my lawn. Initially, I had trouble with getting them to actually fertilize my entire lawn as they seemed to think my side yard was someone else's property. Then, when they did come out to fertilize over the next couple of years, they were inconsistent - sometimes they started early in the year and other times, it seemed like they didn't show up for months but I still got billed. When I called to complained, someone would come out when I was not home and leave a note. They constantly called me, numerous times a day and never left messages which I found very aggravating. When I did speak to them, they were only interested in selling me another service and never bothered to even ask if I was having any issues with my service. I contacted Keith King several times via email and got relatively quick responses, but my lawn did not respond all that well to the service. Finally, I had the last straw when my lawn wasn't being serviced and one of their representatives was in the neighborhood doing another home so I went over and asked him what was up. He contacted their office and told me that they said that my home was put 'on hold' by the owner. I am the owner and I never put anything on hold. They researched it and came back and said it was my neighbor next door that was on hold and they apologized but I had already missed two services of the year. In addition to the continually increasing price of the service and the overall lack of results, I canceled my service. They never called me to ask why.

TruGreen came through our neighborhood, going door-to-door offering lawn fertization services. They offered me a very low estimate to demonstrate their capability. Two treatments - the first $40 and the second $80 - for fall fertilization. I thought I'd give them a chance to impress me - they didn't. We received more sales calls than service calls - by a ratio of 5 to 1. The treatments didn't occur when they said - we had to call them multiple times. We did get the treatments, but it was a very frustrating experience. (Oh, and when they come door-to-door and you accept their offer, they tell your neighbors about it when pitching the service to them!)

I can't complain about their treatments. It is ok, but they are always calling and trying to get me to add services that I do not feel I need. I can't complain about the treatments, but it is the sales pitch.

We were not happy with the service performed on our lawn for the whole summer. For some reason, they were unable to control the weeds and we had many blank patches with no grass growing. We complained several times, but their technician, who looked like a high school kid, seemed oblivious to the obvious problem. We told the technician if he couldn't control the problem, we wanted to discontinue service in 2009. To our surprise, they still showed up to service our lawn, which coincidentally was a few days after we fertilized our lawn, ourselves. Then they tried to charge us for the service. When we told them we cancelled the service and weren't going to pay the bill, they continued to call us repeatedly to get us back. They wouldn't take no for an answer.

They did the job well. I also had some questions about the service and they were able to come out and within a couple days.

When we first used them, our service tech was great. He would come and leave a bill at the notifying us that he had sprayed. We ended up losing him to a transfer so we got another gentleman who ended up burning up our lawn and overrun with weeds. We decided to cancel their service. The company would not stop calling after we canceled. I will not use their service in the future.

They haven?t been very responsive, but they come out and do the work. There are a couple of billing issues that I have called them about that are not yet resolved. We have been using them for years. Our lawn actually looks pretty good. The quality of their work and the quality of the products used have been good.

I have found that I do a better job on my lawn with the products I use then what Chemlawn did. I don’t think their fertilizer was effective and I didn't like billing. They don't show up when they are needed. They were very low on staff a lot of the times, so their visits were very erratic. They were responsive to my complaints, but it seemed that was the only time when they would do what they promised according to their contract. I do work now on my own lawn. If I really needed them I would call, but I really wouldn't use them.

They are very professional, responsive and efficient. There service is very good and I am very happy with their quality of service. They are always on time.

Did not come when scheduled because ground was too dry but came a week later. Quality of work was fine. Marked sprinkler heads for me.

I emphasized the large amounts of dandelions. The lawn looked bad all summer and I fired them in the fall. I could see that they aerated the lawn but they did nothing the help with the weeds. I am totally dissatisfied with the service.

Initially the company was okay to deal with, however I began to have troubles with incorrect billings. I also would continue to get calls for additional services when the current services weren't even completed yet. The biggest concern I had was when I received a letter from the EPA stating that chemicals where put on my lawn that had not been approved by the EPA.

I have been using them now for 2-3 years. By now, my lawn should be the best looking on the street, but it's not. It's the worst looking. Every time they come out whatever they spray on the grass, burns the grass. Sometimes they use a liquid and sometimes they use pellets. When the use the the pellets, they are all over the driveway.

They are above average. They are good about responding if we need to call them for anything extra. They are always on time. My yard looks above average.

It is a good service, and we're pretty happy with them. The price is about the same as other companies. They are willing to come out if there is a problem. They come out periodically to spray. They don't sell us on anything extra. We can see a difference for the better in our lawn.

It is about $60 per visit no matter what they do and how long it takes them. How often they come out, depends on the services that you contract for. For lawn treatments every two months, they basically come out and fertilize to protect against weeds. For insect protection there are less and less number of treatments to protect smaller trees and shrubs. Very professional. They will come out and provide you with an estimate on what your lawn and problem areas need. The one thing about this kind of service is that they come on their schedule whatever it is. They do this whether you are there or not. Many of the applications depends on the weather as well.

They came out and did it while I was working. The lawn looks good.

WE WOULDN'T EVEN CONSIDER EVER THIS COMPANY PERIOD. I GAVE THEM INSTRUCTIONS OVER THE PHONE IN WHICH THEY COULDN'T FOLLOW.

They're very eager to add on other services.
