Absolutely awful the last few years. Applications were late, or missed. I prepaid the whole season and 2 of the scheduled applications never were made last year. They couldn't explain why, and I had to fight them to get my money back for the applications that i paid for and that they never did. I called them numerous times and they screened my calls and kept me from speaking with employees who actually could have done something. Very frustrating. Called theirt Corporate HQ to complain several times. That was minimally effective. Several shrubs under their care died and they wouldn't live up to their guarantee to make it right. Horrible service last several years, And, I was a loyal multi-year customer. After several years as their customer, I have had enough and i am done with them. No one could be worse. VERY disappointing. To me, they just didn't seem to care and didn't have any explanations as to why they screwed up.

They admitted the ortho weed killer they use is the same thing you can buy yourself at Lowes or wal mart. They basically just continue to try to sell you more treatments when their service is terrible and the results are just as bad. Is there a grade lower than F to give them? The lawn is half dead and full of weeds. Stay away from this company if you care about what your lawn looks like at all.
Description of Work: They have been to our house and have applied fertilizer and ortho weed control five times this summer. They come out and leave a form that says what they did each time. The problem is whatever they are doing is NOT working. My lawn looks like crap, it Is full of clover and other types of weeds. I have called them up and complained several times and a week or so latter they come back and claim that they retreated the lawn. The last time I called I talked to a manager named Matt, he assured me that he would come out and take care of the problem personally. It hats been over 3 weeks since that conversation and nobody has been back to our house. The lawn has large brown spots and areas of no grass at all. This comes after a season of treatment by them.

I called the national headquarters for TruGreen and spoke to a sales person. She was able to use Google Earth to see a view of my yard and understand my what my requirements would be. She told me that someone from a local TruGreen office would call me within 24 hours to make an appointment. I waited a week and no one called. I called back and was told that my name and infor was on their computer and they would make sure someone would contact me. They also gave me the number of the local office in case I didn't hear from them within a few days. After a few days I call the local Brunswick, Ohio office. The operator apoligized for no one getting back to me and promised to have the sales manager get back to me to set up an appointment. After three weeks no one has called. TruGreen is both unreliable and unprofessional and I can see no reason why anyone would want to do business with them.

We contacted Scott's because of a recommendation from a friend because we were fed up with TruGreen's constant nagging for additional services and payment. However, Scott's isn't much better. They recommended overseeding last fall because TruGreen had let our yard pretty much die off and it did come back very nice in the spring but over the course of the summer even though we have had a lot of rain we still have brown areas. It is almost impossible to contact anyone at Scotts and when you do get through and leave a message it is a day or 2 later that you receive a call back. Both times when a tech has come out to inspect the damage all they have done is recommend overseeding and not what the cause is or how to treat it. In other words they also want you to pay for additional services...I am looking for a new provider..........

I made the mistake of paying more than I should have so I had a credit on my account for the first year. It took me about 6-8 months to make them realize that I had a credit; they continued to send me a bill despite repeated phone calls to their billing department. I couldn't contact one person in charge of billing/accounts to get this fixed. I ended up reporting them to the BBB with all the accompanying paperwork; it was finally resolved at the end of the season. I was cursed at by one of the service managers, and eventually when I did talk to the branch manager, he too cursed when he was apologizing for his other manager. Despite this we decided to use them for another year and in our second or third year we paid in advance to get a discount, foolishly thinking that we would be at the top of the list when it came time to service our property. However, we received no special advantage to this prepaying. They did not come or call on the date they said they would at the beginning of the season. When I finally got in touch with someone in service, I was told "we ran out of material"-it did not matter that I had prepaid! The first and second year we received postcards giving you an estimate of when they would come to service so you could plan ahead-third year no postcards as per their nation headquarters. You get an automated phone call from Trudy, usually two days before they come. Again, there is no communication between their departments, ie. there is no communication between service to sales, sales to billing, etc; and I did tell them this all three years. I called the Brunswick office to tell them I was cancelling their service and not to come to my property and low and behold they came to service the lawn! The service guy that came said he was aware the office was mismanaged, but I was still on the sheet and there was nothing he could do, and asked me to please come back to be a customer. I told him it wasn't his fault and the service people do a good job. Over the years, someone different was always here so they did have a turnover in the company-I had to walk all the new people around my property because of this. My mother in law has TruGreen in Florida, and she has the same problem that we have here. Same miscommunications, and indifferent customer service, so she cancelled as well. We went with a local company and are now satisfied with them. This was one of the reasons that I joined Angie's List, so I could check out companies in the future!
Description of Work: We have been using them for three years. They did our lawn, shrubs and pest control, this was the amount over the period of time.

The presentation at the IX Center was good. The calling to cancel the service went fine.
Description of Work: We met this company at Cleveland IX Home and Flower Show. They were friendly and gave us a fair price The price beat our current companies contract. However after gettiing home and checking the reviews on Angies List, we did not want to use them. They were very professsional in taking our cancelation. They asked why and we told them of the current Angies List rating and they didn't argue they just said ok.

We contracted with Scotts in early Spring, paying in advance for the 6 treatments to get the discount. We did have some significant problems going in -- extensive weeds, especially in the back yard (hard to control "dollar weed"), bare spots and very sunny front yard due to the removal of several trees in 2010.The early treatments went well. The weeds were seemingly under control, and the grass was beginning to come around. The bare spots didn't fill in, but I expected that to take time and additional services. They called to offer an aeration and overseeding (they call to sell additional services quite a bit, and their sales people are persistent -- not rude, but very persistent). The selling point that they used was that the ground was hard, due to the dry summer, and that overseeding would fill in the bare spots. The weeds had re-emerged by this time, but their selling point that "the work will be doine in the middle of September" prompted me to go along with the additional service. My intention was to bring them out in late August to retreat the weeds, prior to their doing the aeration and overseeding in mid September. We had some significant personal issues over the summer, which prevented me from acting on these in as timely a fashion as I would have liked (Father had stroke in June, passed away in July. I am executor of estate in another city/state. First Grandchild born in late sprint.) On August 20, they did the aeration and overseeding (we were out of town at the time). I really couldn't see much seed on the ground, but I'll take their word for it. I was unhappy at the seed being put down about 3 weeks before I expected it, and my unhapppiness was compounded when I was told that they couldn't treat the weeds, since that would negate the effects of the seeding. Very little seed sprouted. In early October, after several calls, I got them to retreat the weeds with the promise that they would put down more seed before the winter. So far, the wees are less, but still around in both the front and back. I'm still not impressed with the overseeding (I got the same results with seed from the garden center for a lot less money). I'll eventually pay the bill, since I gave them the go-ahead to do the aeration and overseeding. Based on the results, we are undecided about using the same company next year. If we use them again, we will most definitely NOT contract with them for additional services (they have tried to sell treatment for lawn bugs, house pest control, aeration and overseeding and application of lime to balance the ph and "help control the weeds, since we can never get rid of them with our acidic soil.") I can't rate them a total failure, since my lawn is somewhat better, and they did all of the treatments requested. I'm just annoyed about the weeds and the failureof the grass seed to significantly sprout.

When I called to tell them that they should fix them they said that it was too late in the year without offering an explanation of why they are in the condition that they are. Their billing system is very bad they cant get it straight that all of the invoices should go to one address. They are very aggressive strong sell for additional services. For example they called 6 times to offer the their insect and fertilizer for my primary address and their first offer was over $400.00. I ended up getting it for $87.00. The kicker is that I just stopped them from coming out again for the same thing.

One word describes this company, Excellent!
Description of Work: We have used this company for the past four years. Billing plan we opted for was yearly with a 5% prepayment discount, they also give a discount for military service. Our lawn was initially riddled with weeds, wild violets, crabgrass and huge bare patches. They sent out their lawn care specialist, Jason Scott, who made numerous reccomendations which included removing some huge trees that had above the ground roots travelling out 5 to 15 feet. This whole property was some 55 years old and had never been maintained at all by the previous owners. After that initial visit Jason assigned technicians to come out on a routine basis. Jason oversaw every step of the renovation. Many times he came out himself and did the "grunt" work. We watched the lawn improve little by little until it now looks like the Scotts Company ads from Marysville, Ohio! What a difference. We have always been treated with extreme courtesy, our experience with their technicians has been an informative one (Note: these are not just kids out for a quick buck, but well trained young men that can give correct technical answers to all lawn care questions). We are new members of Angies List and this is the first review we have submitted. We believe this company should be given an A+ rating, as they REALLY CARE about the customer.

When I called I asked that a trained professional lawn care person caome out to diagnose the problem. However I was never notified about this visit. Why do I have chinch bug damage when Scotts has been treating my lawn. Wouldn't they have noticed something before I called? I'll wait to see if the appearance of the lawn improves.
Description of Work: I've used Scotts LawnService for about 3 years. When I first used them my lawn looked great. I've had two treatments up until today when they put the third treatment on. This latest visit was because my lawn has developed some kind of disease which today was described as chinch bug damage. The application today included fertilizer with grub-ex which I'm assuming will control the grubs. Surface insect control was also applied hopefully to control the chinch bugs.

I've been a customer at my current address for 10 years, at my previous address for at least 6 more years. All I ever wanted was a lawn free of weeds, nothing more. For tis I was paying around $300 a year. Some years were good, some years not so good. All during this time my only real complaint was their persistent sales calls to sell me optional services. This year they've changed the and lsquo;standard program' to include some of the optional services I would never buy. As a result they've increased the charge of each application by $15, reduced the number of applications from 6 to 5 and added a and lsquo;start up charge' of $50. The result is, if I stay with them another year, I will be paying an extra $80 for the season. And what do I get for the extra $80? Fewer applications and products and services I didn't want.

Last spring (2011) I awarded my home landscaping project to TruGreen (TG) Brunswick Branch. This was a mistake. The job was competively bid and each contractor received my work scope package including dimensioned layouts, photos and work item descriptions. My long-term satisfaction with TG's lawn care service was the key factor in my choice. To repeat, this was a mistake. TG's residential landscaping work is handled by their Commercial Division. They have no landscapers. They prepare a one-page plot plan with notes and bid the work out to landscaping contractors. After adding their (sustantial) markup they submit their plot plan with their and quot;Commercial Service Agreementand quot; form to me as their bid package. Although my contract was with TG, there was a minimum (if any) TG project management or presence during the work. Many of the work details discussed and clarified with the TG Commercial Manager (prior to bid award) were not conveyed to the landscaping contractor. When the contractor left the site in mid-June, portions of the work were either not completed or did not meet my understood agreement with TG. Cleanup was poor. TG did not offer a final walk-through inspection or provide instructions and literature on the needed plant care. They did however waste no time in sending the invoice received on June 22. It took until September 26 to get items resolved enough for me to agree to finally pay them. The entire ordeal was a disgusting experience. Following my payment, I called the TG Brunswick Branch Manager who personally assured me that he would schedule two shrub treatments as recommended by TG's Commercial Manager. Three weeks went by without the treatments. I then called TG to inquire and was informed that I would have to pre-pay before they would schedule. Prior to this incident, I was planning to continue my TG lawn care service. I have since cancelled all TG services. I prefer not to deal with those who say they will do something and then do not. Some of the landscaping issues include: Contractor was unaware of the following items of work: Tree root removal in several areas of the lawn; Two areas of the lawn requiring fill and seeding; leveling and rubber liner prior to laydown of small stone underneath the deck; Installation of paver bricks alongside of driveway; these items were eventually addressed although not to my satisfaction. Two of the larger evergreens died in August and TG informed me that they do not guarantee plants. When they inspected the trees in September they concluded that they were infested with mites. I told them that I do not pay for dead trees. The TG Commercial Manager personally replaced the trees on Friday, September 23, 2011. The one tree has a crooked trunk. I finally received my final walk-through/inspection with the TG Commercial Manager on September 26, 2011. The needed literature on plant care was also provided. I then satisfied the TG Commercial Manager's request for payment directly to him. It's spring 2012 and I have another dying large evergreen. My lessons learned from my TruGreen experience include: Be sure that your contract is with those who do the work; Be sure that there will be a project manager on site that understands the contract and scope of work; A long-term satisfactory experience with a specific sevice provided by a company does not assure the same level of satisfaction for other services they may provide.
Description of Work: Landscaping services at my residential home including: Remove all old trees and shrubs around house; Install new trees and shrubs around house; Installation of paver walkways around house; Installation of mulch around house; Installation of small stone underneath deck; Remove tree roots from yard areas and restore; Repair several yard areas with fill and seed.
