Had to leave a message to get an appointment. Did not hear anything for a day. I called back and got connected with service. The gentleman complained to me about a service technician not coming in so "they were backed up." After I set an appointment with this gentlemen, I then received a call back fromsomeone else about the initial call asking for an appointment. I finally got an appointment and the service technician was 40 minutes late. When I called to see if the appointment was still on, I was told that the tech had cleaned up some work from the weekend and started out late. When he arrived, he couldn't figure out what was wrong and needed to come back with another tech. I got another electrician to handle it. When I was cancelling the second appointment with this company, they initially told me that they were going to charge me for the whole two hours that the tech took to not fix the problem. I protested and they adjusted the bill to the minimum service charge of $65.
Description of Work: Called the company because I had a good experience in the past to fix a bank of lights that were not working.

I called to get an estimate on some wiring and lights. I was sent to the voicemail of a person that identified herself as the admin of Jess Sr. I left a message with my name and phone number at the start and end of the voice mail. A week later, they still haven't called back. If you want to use them, I'd suggest hanging up if you go to voice mail and keep trying later until you can talk to a live person.

I got their name from Angie's list as a company in Gahanna that could install attic fans or whole house fans. I left a message on their general mailbox on a weekend. No call back. I called on Wednesday, spoke to someone in their residential department, who said that my previous message had been given to "Tim", and they would give him another message. 10 days later, almost 2 weeks since my original call, and no call back. They obviously don't care to have new residential business, and not even courteous enough to let me know that they're taking their business in another directions - just don't care. Not a good option for residential electrical use.
Description of Work: I was not able to have any services performed, because although they told me that they performed these services, I could never even get somebody to call me back!

They worked out great! They were professional, thorough and very responsive when I called. They suggested a schedule to fit ours because we were trying to schedule the installations right before a family wedding.

I had Tim Sr. come out and give me an estimate. I felt bad because I had a few other contractors out at the same time and was running around between them. He was cool with it, gave me my estimate and explained a few things to me. I ended up using them and I am sure glad I did. I can not speak highly enough of Todd. Todd was the technichian that came out to do all of our electrical work. We were getting electric ran for a hot tub. He had to disconnect some electric and install all of the new electric. He also looked at a light for us and noticed a problem with an outlet on the side of our house that seemed hazardous and corrected that. The job should have taken a day and a half, but, he came at 8:30am and stayed until 7 or 7:30pm to make sure he finished almost everything so we could fill the hot tub that day. He was friendly, courteous and is all around a great guy. The most amazing part to me is that he never turned off electric to our house. I really appreciated Todd's professionalism and I will use Jess Howard again for any electrical work I need done. I've been using other contractors for varous remodeling projects in my house recently and it is very hard to find a company that is prompt, professional and willing to work with you like Jess Howard Electric. Jess Howard Electric is a first class company!
Description of Work: Disconnected some electric that was not being used for space on our pannel. Installed electric for a Hot Tub. And checked on a flickering light for us.

We were having problems with a circuit breaker that continually tripped. Eric was dispatched and arrived at the time I requested, diagnosed the problem quickly and repaired it.
Description of Work: Eric diagnosed our problem with a bad circuit breaker, performed a load test and replaced the bad breaker. All in less time than it takes to have a pizza delivered!

1. I was overcharged for the installation of two bath fans. Tim Howard Sr gave me an estimate of $290 for 3 hours of work plus 1 hr of drive time. 2. The workman arrived out our home at 10:03 am and sat in his van for several minutes before entering our home. He installed two bath fans and completed the work before 11:00 am. He said that it was an easy job. I called the office before he left because we were going to be billed for 3 hours of labor which was unfair. I was told that I would have to wait until Tim Howard Sr returned from vacation before anything could be done. 3. I told the workman that Tim Howard Sr said it was going to take him 3 hrs to complete the job. He said that Tim always estimates high. He pulled out of our driveway at 11:04 am. 4. I requested a copy of the job card. It shows 1 hr at the shop, .75 travel time, arrived on the job 9:45 and left job site 11:10, total hours 1.5. That is not accurate. The actual work time was less than 1 hr. They inflated the actual time worked. 5. Tim Howard Sr returned my call on 02/28/11 when he returned from vacation. He said that he thought the job would take 3 hours and that they charge for an hour of travel if you live across the street or across town. He said that the job took 1.5 hours to complete. I told him that it took less than an hour to complete. He said, well take $60 off the bill then. I told him that $230 was unfair, that he was still overcharging us. I told him Jess Howard's rates are $65 for the first 1/2 hr and then $65/hr thereafter. He said, "I kinda do my own thing. We have to charge more when we go into our own supply room." I told him that I provided all the supplies. He did not explain why I was being charged $230 for an hour of work and an hour of travel time. 6. I called the president, John Howard, on 02/28/11 twice. He was out of the office the first time. The second time I left him a detailed message regarding the service and asked him to return my call. He never returned my call. Jess Howard Electric Co inflated their actual work time and is overcharging me for the installation of two bath fans.

Mr. Howard came out very promptly to do an estimate and showed up 5 minutes early for the appointed time. He gave me an estimate after looking over the job. I faxed in the estimate accepting it within the next 2 days. It took about 4 days to schedule the appointment for them to come out and do the work and they were pretty booked. This was partially due to working around my schedule by coming at 8am. The electrician actually showed up at 7:45am. This was a great experience especially after we had a really bad one with a contractor that would never show and we had to finish the job on our own. That's part of the reason we were in over our heads with the electrical job to begin with.
Description of Work: Ran wiring and put in outlets from basement to outlets upstairs for stove and microwave when kitchen was remodeled. There were also some other wiring issues with a GFI, our breaker box, and removing an old large wire from a place that was difficult for us to reach.

The kids ripped the chain out of the light to a ceiling fan. I attempted to fix it but the chain was broke off well into the electrical part (switch) of the light. So I decided I better call an electrician and I hired Jess Howard. The Electrician that came to the house did a great job. He was done in about a half hour. Excellent service. Professional. I would definitely use them again. The thing that I liked about them is that they say "no job is too small." I knew my job was small so I was happy to see that in their ad. That's it. They are good. Hire them.
Description of Work: Repaired ceiling fan switch. The light on the ceiling fan wasn't working.

Tim Howard came out to do the estimate before we closed on the house. He was so nice, professional and just a "good, stand up" guy. He is known (as is his family) in our area as just being good honest people. The estimate was one of the lower ones of all the companies that we had out and the company's reputation lead us to chose Jess Howard. The technicians Todd and Alex were at our home the week of January 10th. They arrived on time every day, communicated to me what work they would be doing daily and updated me as necessary. They removed and changed their shoes every single time they went out of the house. This time of year (mud and snow) my floors would have been a mess if they would not have done this for us. We appreciated this and it made my life easier. We also had a negative situation going on with the contractor we were using and had to let him go the same week Alex and Todd were doing the work. They were concerned for us and helpful with this situation. I felt safe and at ease with them and was so glad that they were at the house. They were understanding with the other situation that was going on and supportive (this to me was above and beyond their job description). They were super nice to our kids and to our two small dogs. The dogs were caged while they were working, but the times when we had to let the dogs outside, they petted the dogs and talked to them. They still have some remaining projects at our home, but we have to have another contractor in place before they can wrap up the job. This should be in the next few weeks. I am looking forward to having them come out and finish the work.
Description of Work: We recently purchased a house in need of upgrading and repair in regards to the electric. Jess Howard is in the process of installing new outlets, upgrading the electrical system, repairing and removing old wiring, fixing and replacing switches, installing smoke alarms, etc.

We lost electricity to the living room, kitchen, hallway, bathroom and our bedroom at 4:00 AM Wednesday, December 1, 2010. The rest of the house had electricity, including the furnace. We feared we'd have to call for an emergency visit but it came back on at 5:30 AM. Then, later that morning, at 11:45 AM, we lost electricity to the whole house. I called AEP and they told me they had gotten another call from our area so it wasn't just us. The power came back on at 1:00 PM. We haven't had any flickering since! Then on Thursday, December 2, I get a call from Charlie at Jess Howard Electric and he said that one of the electricians had gone on a call on that Wednesday to someone's house right around the corner from us with the SAME exact symptoms of flickering lights in only part of the house. The electrician saw the AEP guy and asked what had happened. The AEP guy said that one of the "legs" of a transformer had blown but they were fixing it. The electrician then went into the house he was visiting and couldn't find a thing wrong. So, in conclusion, it was AEP's equipment malfunction causing our flickering lights. Charlie from Jess Howard was calling as a courtesy to let us know that we could cancel our service call for Monday. I have nothing but good things to say about Jess Howard Electric! They could have kept that information to themselves, never called me and just pocketed the service call cost. I'd use this company again in a heartbeat! Highly recommended!!!
Description of Work: We'd been having flickering lights and clicking/beeping battery backups in the living room and the bathroom for over a week. I called on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 and made an appointment with Jess Howard Electric and they were scheduled to come next Monday, December 6, 2010 for a service call. We cancelled the service call because our problem was solved with no money changing hands. (See story below.)

I called due to an outage in one circuit in my home. I spoke with a service technician and explained the problem. Based on that, he gave me instruction over the phone that allowed me to rectify the outage without having a service call. Our electrician came Wednesday to troubleshoot the range outlet. He found bad wiring and made two suggestions with prices. We opted to replace the wiring. Two electricians came out Friday and completed the work in half the time originally quoted.

The basement walls in my home required the installation of several steel beams to correct a bowing wall. The basement contractor required the moving of a steel conduit along a portion of the wall. I called Jess Howard Electric because of past experience with the company and also due to the reviews on Angie's List, Although they were unable to send someone out immediately, they did schedule it 4-5 days out. Tim Howard arrived on time as scheduled and was very professional. He walked through and explained how he would reroute the conduit allowing the basement contractor to be able to complete his work. He left the estimate and scheduled an electrician for the following day. The electrician, Todd, arrived promptly the next day and called just prior to his arrival. Todd looked at the job and told me exactly what he planned to do and completed the work. When he finished, he walked me through his work and assured me that if needed he would be willing to come back if the job was not sufficient. He cleaned up the area and made sure that the air conditioner worked. I would definitely use them again for future electrical needs.
Description of Work: Move an existing 220V conduit in my basement in preparation for basement wall repair. Reroute the line back to the service box.

I was not home during the repair work (which was not necessary since the work was outside). My power mast was damaged (bent) from the wind storm in the fall of '08 when a tree branch fell on the power line to my house. I was pleased with the finished product, although I had to call in after the initial work had been completed because the repair man had left some trash and debris as well as not completely tightening down a support clamp to support the mast. The supervisor was apologetic and it was taken care of the same day I called .
Description of Work: Replaced bent power mast and secured it to my house.

I called them directly. They did some fantastic work for me. They can usually come out the same day. They're very professional. They answer any questions you have about electricity. They install it correctly and are very reasonable in price. They're quick. You can have them check out any other little thing as well.

They were done in one day and did good work. They replaced the conduit and hooked it back up on both sides.
Description of Work: He repaired an electrical line that was damaged during an excavation job by another company. It was as deep as 3 feet in that area where work was done.

The serviceman left the cover piece off and the interior of the bell was exposed in our foyer during the 2 weeks we waited for the parts. Then he replaced the wrought iron doorbell button with a cheap plastic button and when I called wanting the old button back, he said that he had left all the old parts. He had not. Later I discovered that he had not replaced the electrical panel cover on the breaker box when he left and had left the interior of the panel exposed. This was dangerous. Overall, just not very professional.
Description of Work: Jess Howard Co. replaced our doorbell button and transformer. They ordered new parts to replace the doorbell system with the same materials, as we requested.
