Frank Scherer

Everything went very well, from the initial phone call to the final work. I had inherited a 54-year old home from my mom, and three of the basement walls had numerous cracks (although they were structurally sound). Frankly, the walls looked terrible. I found Frank Scherer on Angie's list and gave his office a call. Mr. Scherer returned my phone message promptly, and came out to look at the basement the next day. Since my husband and I do not live in Ohio, we arranged for a trusted neighbor to let him in, and this went smoothly. Mr. Scherer called me the next week with a very reasonable estimate which we accepted, and the next day his office faxed a written contract. We especially appreciated the senior discount. Mr. Scherer was very good about working with our schedule - my husband was going to be in Ohio at the end of April and we had a limited window of time to have contractors working in the house. On the day the work was scheduled, Mr. Scherer arrived early in the morning, right on time. He worked very hard and diligently for a VERY long day, and tackled dozens of long cracks. This was a full basement with long walls, so there was a lot of old mortar to be sawed out and then replaced. He also did some tuck-pointing on the front porch. Mr Scherer was also helpful in suggesting some appropriate waterproofing-type paint for the basement. He did such a nice job repairing and filling in those cracks that after the basement was painted later on, you couldn't tell the masonry had ever been cracked and repaired. I'd definitely hire him again if I needed masonry work.

I called on 6-24-2011 and left a message indicating that I had a damaged chimney and that I was interested in getting an estimate from Frank on repairing or rebuilding it. I received a return phone call that day from a woman who took additional information from me and said she would give it to Frank so he could put me on the schedule. I indicated I wanted to be notified before he came so that I could be here to talk with him. When I did not hear back after several days I called again and left a message. That phone call was not returned. If he was not interested in the job for whatever reason, I would have appreciated knowing that sooner rather than later. it would have been far more courteous and certainly more professional for someone to have called back than to have left me hanging.

We had to wait for good weather but once it arrived, he finished in one day as he said he would.

Arrived as scheduled for estimate. Of 3 estimates received Frank Scherer was the middle price. He was the only one to review mortar and brick colors with me and explain the difference and availability of the larger size bricks used in my older construction. After agreeing to his estimate he called to advise of start date. Work was completed as scheduled and area thoroughly cleaned. I appreciated his ability and willingness to explain all aspects of the project. I am 100% satisfied.

Frank cut out the bad sections of mortar on the first day and returned to fill and finish the joints and cracks on the following day. The area was kept clean and neat. After the first day, I got a call from him to explain the progress of the work and when he would return to complete it. After the mortar had set up, he returned to inspect the job and make sure everything was in order. We had had some rain, so he was concerned about any possibility of damage to the work. There was none. I was pleased with this company's responsiveness and the quality of their work and would not hesitate to recommend them.

His bid was extremely reasonable, he was extremely professional and go the job well done just in 1 day. I would use him again, and definitely recommend Frank.

He kept saying he would come out but he never did. He never did what he said he was going to do.

The job was completed in a timely manner once the work had started, and it all seems to be wearing well so far.

Great job and and arrived right on time. I had been told by my chimney sweep that my chimney was leaning and needed to be replaced (and was referred to a different mason). When Frank looked at it he found that the chimney was built with the lean (70 yrs ago) and there was no evidence that it had gotten worse (no cracked mortar). I appreciate his honesty.

Showed up when expected (kept in contact as to changing dates due to rain), matched mortar, worked efficiently and did a good job, asked me to look at house when done to make sure they covered everything. Frank also worked on my prior house - tuckpointing and building new porch - and always did a good job.

He was prompt. He was very good and did all the clean up.

The job went well. He found that there was no footer under the existing steps after ripping them out. He was able to get me a deal on pouring the footer because he did the driveway and sidewalk work at the same time. The steps are beautiful and safe, and they match the existing stone veneer nicely. The city inspector was also impressed with his work.

Frank's crew ground out all of the old mortar and replaced it. They were very pleasant, did a good job and the price was good. The chimney looks great now.

It went well. He came and gave the estimate. I had two people come out, and Frank is the only one who sent back an estimate. The finished product was great.

The project was expensive, but it was reasonable. He obviously knew what he was doing and he knew exactly what I wanted. He did exactly what I needed and overall, he was excellent.

I really liked him and he called back the next day. He came the day after the initial phone call and gave me an estimate for the work and I will be using him in the future for the work on the driveway.

Frank personally did/oversaw the work & it was done perfectly. The project involved pouring an entirely new footer & building new brink steps with a small brick path from our driveway. The work was done in a timely manner and based on the experience with Frank, it was one of those projects we wished we had done sooner. We've since moved and are now having Frank estimate new work on a brick home.

I left a message to schedule an appointment. The following day, Lori called me to get my location information and told me that Frank will call me back to schedule the appointment. Never heard from him. About a month later, Lori called me back to ask if I still needed the work done. Frank could come out to do it. I got the impression that perhaps Frank was initially too busy and I only received a call back because he was looking for more work.

He was very busy and we booked him in advance. He did an excellent job and he was very nice.

THE WORK WILL BE DONE BY ANOTHER PROVIDER - I WILL NOT CALL THIS PROVIDER AGAIN.
