+ -1 moreI can t say enough positive things about Hoban, both from a customer service and effectiveness point of view. I have never gotten an answering service during normal business hours and our appointments were always scheduled promptly. The technicians are all very knowledgeable and professional and you get every penny s worth of the single initial payment. I am confident that we will call them again if the ants return next year.
Description of Work: We originally contacted Hoban because we began seeing large, black ants in various places throughout the interior of our cedar-sided house. A receptionist was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She was able to schedule our first appointment for the following Friday afternoon, March 2nd. The first visit entailed spraying the entire inner perimeter of the house and in the handful of nooks and crannies where we were seeing the most ants, with a powder solution. The technician made it clear that if we continued seeing the ants, we should call right away and someone would return at no charge. After several weeks, the ants seemed to return, so we called back -- the technician sprayed the entire outer perimeter of the house in this third visit, as well as placed several drops of a concentrated gel in key points throughout the house. Since this last visit, we have not seen any live ants throughout the house, though I have swept up a lot of dead ones!

Description of Work: We are converting a screened porch to an enclosure and at the tear down yesterday there was some evidence of sawdust. I have seen ants in previous years, but only a few this year. I called yesterday afternoon and explained the situation and was told they would be here before 10 AM today. Tim and Nick arrived as promised and were knowledgeable and friendly. They spot treated the problem areas with long-acting powder and also sprayed around the foundation and trees. They were very considerate of our porch contractor and said they would return next week to spray the foundation area of the porch he was working on. I was glad they came right away so we could see more and they had easier access to fix the problem while we were still in the "torn down" phase of the project. Tim said the carpenter ant treatment includes free return visits if we see any more, so that is peace of mind. I am very glad I called them. The person in the office was very courteous and professional as well.

+ -1 moreThe technician arrived about 45 minutes later than scheduled. I did not receive a call that he would be late. I had to call to find out if he was still coming out to our house. The lady I spoke to at the office was very nice and immediately tried contacting the technician to find out when he would arrive at our house. She couldn't get a hold of him, so she told me she would call me back. She called back within a few minutes to tell me when he expected to arrive. Also, the lady I spoke to when making our appointment was very helpful and friendly. Overall, I would recommend them, even though they were late. We have used their services before and never had an issue with them arriving late.
Description of Work: They came out to spray for pavement ants and carpenter ants. The technician didn't see any nests, but he sprayed around the perimeter of the house. He also sprayed the base of nearby trees and sprayed inside our kitchen.

Description of Work: Hoban set traps in my 1000 square foot. We had a mouse. They laid the traps and followed up afterwards to ensure the animal was dead.

They have a certain radius around the home and he went a bit outside of that radius to kill to the source on my neighbor's property. I have a warranty period that they would come out and spray if anything came up. He was very thorough and didn't rush anything. He didn't have to come back out because the problem the first time. I did not see one carpenter ant after that!

+ -1 moreHe took off his shoes, always a great sign! He was very nice and easygoing. He first asked me to explain what was going on, which I did. He understood everything and paid close attention. He knew exactly, what he was doing and was gone in less than half and hour. When he came back for the followup, he went the extra mile even though he didn't have to.
Description of Work: We progressively began to notice more mice in our home and decided that it was time to call a professional. Tim inspected the basement, kitchen, upstairs bath and around the house. He was very clear in explaining the problem and answered any questions (no matter how silly), that I had. I also had noticed some bugs, that he identified and grain beetles and they were actually from dog biscuits, left by the previous owner. Once I put the dog food outside, the beetles disappeared.

He told me not to worry about it because they were not harmful and said they could be treated in the spring with a solution I could get at Home Depot. I was very relieved and grateful.

+ -1 moreWanted termite inspection (wood boring insects) due to upcoming project to seal cracks in crawlspace wall. Also had evidence of carpenter ants in windowsills inside of the house. Mr. Hoban was very professional found no evidence of termites. He checked the carpenter ant situation and was able to spray something into the windowsill which eventually caused the ants to start falling out; about 60 that day (they die right away). He had to pry the windowsill away from the wall some but did not have to remove it. The previous exterminator said he would come back after we took the windowsill off. Hopefully ants are all dead. They continued to fall out over the next month or so but not as many. I believe he said the dust spray would last for a year. I was able to schedule on a Saturday which I appreciated. The Angie's List discount was about $5.
Description of Work: Termite inspection. Primarily in the crawlspace and basement which was not done when home was purchased.

The appointment had to be rescheduled twice due to rain, and they worked hard to ensure they got out to the house as soon as the weather was good. Later in the summer, they did a complimentary re-treatment when some bees started to appear near the deck. Also did an additional yellow jacket treatment at that time for a $35 fee. We had no more problems after the summer treatment. I plan to rehire them next year.

They explained everything to me. We haven't seen any bees since they came. They moved the porch furniture, without having to be told in order to do a quality and thorough job.

When Kevin wrote up the bill it was for full amount quoted. When I called the next day they claimed the $10 reflected in the bill was for taxes and I did receive discount. I did have to call for a second follow-up visit; I was pleasantly surprised both times they came out within hours of the call the same day (had someone in the service area). Both technicians (Kevin and Jon) were very thorough and pleasant. Overall excellent service and well worth the price.
Description of Work: Spray and dusting for yellow jacket nests under siding in front of the house. They ended up having a technician spray entire outside of the house for added 90-day protection, since activity was so high.

She arranged to have someone come out within days at a time convenient for both of us. The young man was a little early. He looked at the nest and took care of it. + -1 moreI attempted for months to cure the problem myself with no success. Called Hoban off the list and they were very pleasant on the phone. I explained the problem and they were here the next day. The service person did an excellent job and was professional. He made sure to take his shoes off in the house and treated every area. Since then, I have not see a single ant in or out of the house, but if I do I was told to call back and they would come out again and fix the problem. I had used one of the national services a few years back and it was a very bad experience and in the end got my money back. Hoban accomplished in one visit what the other company could not do in 6 tries. I could not recommend them enough.
Description of Work: Had a huge problem with carpenter ants in and out of the house. Ant's were infested in a tree and every room in my house.

I just bought the house and had been trying Home Defense and other general treatments available to the public without much success. I'm very glad that Hoban was recommended to me by a contractor and Angie's List, because I now have the assurance (and their warranty) that the creepy crawlers & other critters are gone. This was a first-class experience, from Tina (who answered the phone and was very thorough) to Tim, the terrific Service Manager. I highly recommend them!
